The RICK BEATO interview with GEORGE BENSON is to me similar in nature to this interview. The sheer enthusiasm of the subject to flow out with so much information about themselves
Fantastic interview. Hope Harvey Mason sets it all down in an autobiography filled with the details. He followed his destiny in search of a father's love and emerged as a fine human being and top-tier artist.
I grew up with Harvey on the Westside in Atlantic City his sister Debbie was my first girlfriend (he also had a younger brother named Marvin) after I moved away from AC and eventually attended Shaw University in North Carolina I remember seeing him playing drums in the Hampton University Marching Band during their Homecoming that was the last time I saw him until he evolved into the musician that he is today..Harvey if you’re reading this tell Debbie Bobby said “Hello “!
First heard Harvey Mason on the track 4am by Herbie Handcock then a little later on a few early Lee Ritenour Albums then with the Band Fourplay. Great Player.
Mr. Famularo - What a wonderful series and loving hearing stories from Mr. Mason. Wish there was more from this great player. Thanks to both of you for this presentation.
Thank you for your positive comments! The Sessions team is encouraged by the positive feedback to bring as much knowledge to musicians as we can.....lots more to come!
Want to hear Harvey Mason's groove at the highest level? Listen to "The Devil - Brothers Johnson" Absolute stank funk drumming. Much love and respect to Harvey from me.
All of these interviews are awesome! This one was especially special!! All my students are encouraged to watch all of them to understand the level of talent, integrity and hard work it takes to be great! Thanks for sharing, Troy from American One Productions in NJ.
Excellent Troy, thanks for sharing with your students!! These are a big part of our message for the Artist Series and our organization of www.thesessions.org.
There was a time in the late 70s' - early 80's I guess when every single non-top 40 album or record had Harvey Mason on drums. Every single one. Same with Abe Laboriel on bass.
I would love to hear about his work with the early Sylvers albums were he was the producer as well as the drummer. The groove on Foster Sylvers Misdemeanor is stunning. I've never heard a bass and drum flow like that before.
one great drummer , lol da ja vu here , just the same as started same ages to . pots pans age 4 then 7 amazing drummer harv , streets ahead of me but we can all learn from him . the master

Dom - can you interview Jose Luis Quintana (Changuito) from Los Van Van? PLEASE ask him what his rhythmic motifs are behind his timbale solos? He's SO EXTRAORDINARY
My mentor...
The BEST!
Without a doubt one of the most accomplished and instantly recognizable drummers in history!
Harvey Mason's work with The Mizell Brothers is legendary
An unsung legend. I’m glad to have been alive to hear his song “Groovin’ You” when it was brand spanking new. 1979.
The RICK BEATO interview with GEORGE BENSON is to me similar in nature to this interview.

More than a good drummer ............ a GOOD GUY ............ is Harvey Mason ..................~!~
Harvey Mason is a true inspiration and a class act! 🙌 🥁 🙏
Just a brilliant multi faceted musician with great intelligence, he looks relaxed and incontrol no matter the complexity of the music he's playing.

Sometimes you wonder how these musicians get this good, then you realise how much study, relentless work and exeperince they have and it makes sense!
I really love this interview … It’s nice when the subject just volunteers and just spills out so much rich information about themselves …
We agree! That's the style we will continue for future interviews as well. Thanks for watching & sharing!
Harvey, thanks for sharing. Wish you could make it back to Fresno for a clinic!!!
I remember Harvey playing his sticks on anything the walls anyplace he could make a sound when we were in school in AC
Great drummer: Harvey Mason speaks - with a similar tone, intonation and ‘drawl’ of Jimi Hendrix.
