Kind of funny to see Mary not recognize Christie Brinkley. Though I guess with Brinkley being 70 now, you'd probably have to be at least 40 or 50 years old to know who she is.
@@jdanon203 I am 34 and know her pretty well, but one reason I am also a big Billy Joel fan and them being married at one time and having a daughter and at least a few of his songs being dedicated or inspired by her or mentioning her. The original "Vacation" and "Christmas Vacation" are the best in the series. "European Vacation" and "Vegas Vacation" are both super funny, and well worth a watch.
European vacation is probably the most underrated one for sure…I love the scene on the train where they’re getting on each others nerves by making noise
Lindsay Buckingham wrote “Holiday Road” and he played electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, percussion, drum programming and sang vocals on the recording. Pure musical mastery. Wally World was played by Six Flags Magic Mountain
However, this was the _only_ movie involving all three of them together. It took some pretty special team-ups to make a National Lampoon’s movie really work, which all but a scant few of them unfortunately _did not_ have.
I was ride a operator at Magic Mountain '78-'81. Mostly on Gold Rusher 1978-1979 and Colossus 1979-1981. (The white wooden roller coaster}. I left shortly before filming of this movie, but my friends were the ride operators for this movie.
The mysterious blonde is Christie Brinkley, who at the time was the top supermodel in the industry. This was her first film appearance. She would later marry (and eventually divorce) singer Billy Joel who featured her on his hit, "Uptown Girl" which he wrote regarding a different supermodel. That pairing gave hope to average looking, short guys that they too could attract a tall, gorgeous supermodel (however unlikely). The first National Lampoon movie I can recall is Animal House, featuring among others, John Belushi. However, a number of jokes did not age well.

I love Better Off Dead. Sadly John Cusack hated it and has done everything he can to squash it. It is definitely THE quintessential 80's comedy. Funny, until you said it, I forgot it was Christmas time in the film.
Known as Bigfoot and the Hendersons in the UK for some inexplicable reason, as though naming it after something most 80's Brits had likely never heard of would make it sell better.
This is based on a short story in The National Lampoon magazine. In the original story it's 1958 and the family is going to Disneyland. When they find it closed the dad buys a real gun, goes to Walt Disney's house, chasing him down and shooting him in the leg. Aunt Edna is played by tv comedy pioneer Imogene Coca. I'm sure it amused her to know she could still get laughs, even after her character dies.
Aunt Edna was played by TV pioneer comedian Imogene Coca. She and comedian Sid Caesar hosted a variety comedy skit show in the very early days of TV called Your Show of Shows, which aired from 1950-1954.
I used to make cross country road trips when I was younger. I would sometimes drive all day, only stopping for gas. Texas was one of the more difficult places to get used to because you can drive over 12 hours and still be in Texas.
While Wally World does not actually exist, the words were in use before walmart took off. I give this movie credit for making wallyworld the word we still use for walmart.
European Vacation is also good but Vegas Vacation is my fav. I think there is a movie called Vacation about Rusty all grown up with his own family vacation. It is separate to the other movies in this series.
As a kid in the 80s we did a lot of road trips. We traveled from Philadelphia to Florida every couple years. I get the feeling people don't do road trips as much these days.
The 80s had probably more aggressive sales strategies. The moment you inquire about a new car they already shred your old one to gain advantage and add a reason why you should buy a new one right now.
The blonde in the ferrari is Christie Brinkley who was a huge supermodel in the 80's, she was also once married to singer Billy Joel and is the mother to his oldest daughter.
I saw this in the theater in 83 and even after all these years Clark's freak out in the car is still hilarious.
