This was fascinating! I've seen banana chips, but this is the first time I've seen sun-dried banana.

A lot of people nowadays have no idea what real banana flavour is like. The stuff we get on supermarkets is so bred out of it in favour of other characteristics that artificial banana flavour is more similar to a real banana than the `standard` banana itself.
In Madeira we have intensely tasty small bananas. It blows your mind.

In Thai, the small yellow ones are called 'gluay-hawm' (fragrant bananas), which is also the nickname in Thai for p*nis. The slighter thicker bananas are called 'gluay-ngam-wa' but are sometimes called 'custard-bananas' because they are so creamy in consistency. They are the most closely related to the original wild-banana. You'll notice that these often have seeds in them that look very much like peppercorns.

I lived in the Carribean islands and we had the same small yellow fragrant bananas .they were really good.

That explains why all those baked banana chip recipes have results all over the place! If they can be sun baked to a crispy texture, then oven baking probably works WAY better if it's at temps used to dry herbs

To sun dry bananas never ever crossed my mind! Thank you for this wonderful video. Bananas ripen so quickly and I didn't know how to prevent them from rotting. Normally, we would quickly distribute the big bunch from the tree to friends and neighbours (probably better to share than eat everything yourself 😂).
But, thanks to you, I can now stretch the bunch! Have you tried frying unripe bananas like potato chips? Tastes good too.

@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato I love sun-dried bananas and I bought an air-fryer dehydrator to make them, but they took way too long. I left the dehydrator on for about 20 hours and it was still not enough time. I think it is best to save the electricity and use the sun instead. Question: when you bring them inside at night, do you put them in the fridge?
Not in the fridge inside only to avoid the humidity of the night 🤔 but maybe the fridge can help to dry it.

Greeting from indonesia, salam. Here in west java its called 'pisang (banana) sale' pronounce it saa - lé. This is the local farmer inheritance way to preserve the leftover harvest season. The best banana to make this way here is called pisang kepok (plantain) saba. It seems the fatty short one in this video, im not sure.

Hard to say what variety they are, there are many similar varieties, you really have to be there in person to say for sure and even then it can be very hard to work it out. Small bananas are often firmer.

How would you keep bugs from eating the bananas as they get sunkissed ? We have an ant problem here. In the summer they come into the house . I think the whole nest comes in looking for a free , easy meal. So "how to" on drying them bug free? Suggestions please.
