Ciao Ciao! Amazing to see so many of you viewing this video! I will soon post a follow up that goes through the process of sterilising the jars and pasteurising the tomatoes....in the meantime if you find the video interesting please please comment, like and subscribe! It is super helpful to keep the channel alive! grazie!
Your so sweet! OK, I'm subbing. Thanks❤
"I took 4 days because I've got warm Italian sun, of course if you need 5 days then use 5 days"
I'm in England, I'd need about 12 years
😂😂😂
I’m in Scotland so make that 120 years! Ha ha
Hahahahahahahaha!
I live in New Zealand, it will take two hours and the tomatoes will have skin cancer
Hahahaha😂
Finally somebody did it with a SUN.
yes!
@@GetCooking how you didn't make any videos on how to make rustica passata I don't understand. 😊
funny you say that! i was thinking the same thing recently! will have to get going considering i make it all the time anyway at home!
not supposed to face your lens to the sun
why, you only saw people doing it with two Suns?
You were right the first time. When the kids help it takes twice as long, but it is twice as fun!
Watching it from india on may month, you said 3 to 4 days for them to dry, in here it probably take 3 to 4 hours, weather is over 40 degrees here, I'm gonna try this at end of this month
let me know how you get on! make sure that all the moisture has gone...italy in the summer is also 40 degrees and takes 3 days.
True. 40-45 degree is nothing for drying. Easily 3-4 days
I have an obsession with sun dried tomatoes in my salad. I'm going to try this when my tomatoes ripen....Thank yoou
Hope you enjoy
I'm adopted, but my biological mother was Italian - CapoBianca - from the northeastern United States. I understand from what little i know of her that she was a first generation American born Italian. So, when I see images of the Italian countryside, and hear the voices of Italy, it pulls my heartstrings. Not to mention the amazing foods. Thank you for your video. New sub.
Thank you! Hope you will have a chance to travel around Italy...it is just such a happy place!
I LOVE sun-dried tomatoes!!! My mom was always a fan so they got thrown into a lot of dishes. They’re so sweet! I’ve only ever had them from a jar. I can only imagine how delicious these home dried tomatoes must be!
So good!
Italia one of the best foods in the world
Beautiful view you have there @ 1:30. Absolutely amazing
Thank you very much!
You have very helpful two assistants 😊Thank you for showing me how to dry tomatoes 👍
My pleasure 😊
Now my problem is solved (I've got so much tomatoes from my garden), I will definitely try your method of sun drying. Thank you for making this video.
Great! I hope they will turn out great!
It's a Beautiful Life!!
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
I usually buy them but I'll give this a go as we're having a heatwave in Scotland.
Famous Scottish heatwave! Enjoy it!
Yummy, I did some with garlic and basil and some just tomatoes.
Sounds great!
What is the variety of tomato that you grow in the video? It’s a beautiful shade of red.
They are Pendolini, super sweet as well as very beautiful
Dry cool place? Like the living room or the fridge? Thanks for video, you make it look simple. I live in an apartment building with no patio or balcony so i’ll try to put them between two racks and stick it out the window lol
or in the oven keep oven off just keep light on, that will warm it up enough to dry over a couple of days
@@GetCooking Hey, i didn't quite get that. Should I put them in the fridge after taking them off the sun ?
Omg ‼️I love this
Wonderful! "Cool, dry place" lol that's the standard 😂
Exactly!
Lovely Thankyou. From South Africa.
Pleasure!!
Omg so beautiful I'm in Vegas and it would take 30 mins 😂😂😂
Lovely wholesome video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Those are beautiful. I could never find tomatoes that beautiful here in Texas. Our soils are tainted.
Oh no! would have though with the sun you guys would have nice produce....one day i will come over and try the bbq scene...
This is totally untrue. I have lived in many places in Texas and always have a wonderful garden. There are also many tomato farms here. You must not be looking very hard or trying to grow your own.
“Do you know how to make sun dried tomatoes at home?”
No sir, that’s why I am here
Love love this!!! Grazia ❤
You're so welcome!
I have hundred and hundred (1000 maybe) cherry tomatoes and it's the end of the season. This looks like a good way to use them up. Thank you and I subbed!
Brilliant thanks!
I cut them in half and dry them in my dehydrator until they are crunchy, put them in a jar with an oxygen absorber and use them for soup in the winter and spring.
THANKS FOR THE INFO MANY BLESSINGS ❤❤❤
Same to you!
Wow
The accent and the hand gestures. VERY ITALIAN. Hahaha
😂😂
Thank you! Will try this summer!!
Let me know how you get on!
Thanks for the video! Mines were good for one or two days but now they are starting to get mold on it😢 how can i prevent that next time?
they started to mould while you had them covered in oil? very weird, one thing i could think off is that they must have had some water left in them
@@GetCooking thanks for answering, no, they starting to mould in the second day they were sun-drying..
awesome
amazing!
thanks for this knowledge
how do you keep the birds away 😀?
Hi! The salt over will keep the animals away
Tennessee USA 🇺🇸 here ❤ 9-13-24
Ciao!!
So how do you keep bugs and vermine away for 4-6 days? What are the advantages over using a oven?
Salt will keep animals away. Advantage is the sun provides a slow process and will make the tomatoes very sweet
After the drying process, when yiu wash the salt off and then pat dry. Obviously all the water won't dry off and thats okay yes? I live in Goa so hot weather here too. Just confirming that if a little water stays on womt spoil the tomatoes after adding the olive oil?
you need to remove the water completely, so pat them dry and if you want keep them a few mins again in direct sun light. Water is the enemy as it will start fermentation in the jar, which you dont want.
@@GetCooking Alright, grazie mille so much for the clarification. And sorry for the typing errors earlier.
If you want them to stay fresh longer can you also vacuum pack them without the Olive Oil, and then put in Olive Oil when you need?
Never tried it that way, but dont see how they would stay fresher longer?
I have 35 degrees in September. Will it work
as long as you have a strong sun and low humidity in the air it should work!
I have just put them out in the sun. I think they'll be done in a few days. I have a quick question though can I put them in the fridge when I bring them inside the house during the drying process. I am scared they'll rot if I leave them at room temperature.
I would avoid the fridge. As long as it is not humid, inside is fine. If you have a humid house put it in the oven (keep oven switched off) but the oven provides a safe non humid environment
Okay, thanks for replying so fast.
@@GetCookingI put a fan on mine when I bring them in for the evening. Keep the air circulating 😊
Is it okay if conserve it like put it in a jar in my pantry or fridge?
Pantry is fine for 3-4 months, use a sterelized container
This can’t be done in the Uk. We don’t usually get 5 days Sun 😂😢😅
True! Ehehe go to Tesco
Just wait till july. 4 days sun and then a storm on the 5th day 🤣
What variety of tomatoes did you use?
Piccadilly but does not really matter
Can you make other types of tomatoes like Roma, Mama Mia, Gross Lissi, Beef Steak Tomatoes for sun drying???
you want one with a high pulp to water ratio, usually the smaller tomatoes are better
What type the herb we can put in? Thx 🎉
thyme, marjoram, basil, garlic if you like...stuff like that
Can I use sunflower oil?
You could but it is all about what flavour you want to achieve. With olive oil is more flavourful. Vegetable oil is much more neutral
@@GetCookingis because some of us don't like the flavor of olive oil
@@ctrusAngry Italian sounds.
What’s the best type of tomato to use for this??
you need to find sweet tomatoes like cherry, pendolino, piccadilly
how long will it last in the shelf?
2-3 months easy
It’s very humid where I live can I still make it ?
I dont think it would work….needs no humidity to dry up
I live in humid North Carolina, USA. We would need a food dehydrator to make this.
Just use a dehydrator if your climate is too humid.
For how many days we can store this ?
If you put them in a disinfected jar and keep the tomatoes under oil it can last 3-4 months.
what about the sand ? if a bit of wind happen it might fill with sand!!
I guess it depends where you live! So make any necessary adjustments based on where you live
I just bought fabric mesh to cover
Do you salt it everyday ? For 4 days ?
no salt only first day
For me the seeds are biggest problem, once I started removing the seeds I have perfect results.
can it be done without salt? hopefully answered
not outdoor, you need the salt to speed it up and keep bugs away, if you dont want to use salt then dry it in a dehydrator or home oven at 50C
I worry about bugs I live in Florida
Technically the salt will prevent bugs from sitting on it…we have all sort in the farm and they dont sit on the tomatoes
So boiling in water with vinegar isn’t necessary?
dont believe it is
@@GetCooking sorry I didn’t get it. A lot of people say that it’s necessary for preserving. But everybody says you can store it up 3, maybe 4 months. I like your method more. But safety and shelf life.. So I’m a bit confused
@@andreus_777 The olive oil will take care of the 3 months shelf life👍
Do you use Extra virgin or Normal Olive oil?
Extra virgin for best results. It is all about the quality you want to achieve.
Send me some authentic aged balsamic vinegar please
That wire mesh looks galvanized that can’t be good
I thought the same
do you not cover them with anything?
No need. Salt keeps insects away. i bring them in the house over night and take them out again in the morning as the night humidity will darken the tomatoes
how do you keep the birds from pooping on them??
I know the birds in the area and they respect my sun dried tomatoes patch…so all good
@@GetCooking 🤣
What a cutie
Haha science how to dry Sun dry tomatoes 😂
What about flies? I guess they must be all over the place?
Not at all…that’s why you add a lot of salt, draws moisture out but also prevents any insect from coming to contact with the tomatoes
I tried this and they were covered in fungus gnats or fruit flies not sure, maybe both! Had to throw them out😔
What about birds and other wildlife? I feel like the deer mice wouldn't mind the salt 😅
Eh? Understood nothing of what you said….
@@GetCooking you talk about the salt keeping away insects
I was wondering if you have issues with birds, or mice , or other animals messing with the tomatoes while they are outside!
@@bumblybeesknees5509not really. The net is kept high enough that little animals dont really have access to it.
Wait?🤔... Olive oil?... That defects the perpose of - Sun Dried right?🤔
eh no...drying you remove the water...adding oil helps preserve them and also add its own flavour so works very well :)
@GetCooking
Removing water,hence- sun dried 👍
Olive oil - flavor 👍
Preserving dried vegetables & fruits by drowning them in olive oil is Not required...
Iraq sun took 2 days
Amazing!
Bugs??????
they dont sit on the tomatoes given the salt on it
No recipe in post
No subscribe
Sorry you were not able to follow the recipe of…cut the tomatoes, salt them and put them in the sun..,did not realise it needed much more? Thanks for stopping by anyway hope some other video will resonate with you better!
Are you wearing eye make-up??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Double eyelashes, not everyone is that blessed
Me? 🤣😂🤣😂 no! But i guess i’ll take it as a compliment?
Welcome to 2024.. 🥳
😂😂😂 well that was a waste 3 to 4 days who the hell has time for that...
I’d say a fair bit of people…🤌🏻🤌🏻
