Jeep sold us out before Fiat bought it. The meaning of "4 wheel drive" didn't change when Subaru invented the chinet version.

For the life of me, I could never understand why they redesigned the Dana 30 to decrease ground clearance and strength?

Haha my same thoughts, the only thing I can think of is maybe somthing having to do with control arm mount locations on the frame and or clearance problems with exhaust later on when additional Cats were installed for emissions. 🤷‍♂️ best the heck out of me 🍻

My diesel XJ has 3.73's and the HP30 front, but unfortunately generally XJ's came with D35's in the rear here (rarely did they have an 8.25). :( I'll be looking at doing the same mods to the 30 as you are since D44 fronts aren't something I'll be able to find easily here, not like the D44 rears which came stock in all Aussie TJ's.
I'm keen to see the progress in the next vid!

That’s awesome, I wonder if all the diesels came stock with 3:73s, would save you over 100 dollars not having to buy the carrier. crazy about all the tjs getting the 44s ,but not the Xjs getting the 8.25. Wouldn’t that be nice if that happened over here. 😂 I won’t be going too crazy with the 30, but should be enough to do most of the trails here in the Pacific North west. 🍻🍻

Just wondering if you have experience with the JK dana 30 front? is it worth upgrading/modding or are you better off buying a D44 front? I have a 2014 jk 2 door I purchased a few months ago and am going to start building for light off roading/snow wheeling and camping. I bought a sport because it was cheaper and in better shape. Most of the "rubicon" versions were hammered with high miles and over priced. I don't plan on a locker for the front but definitely one in the rear and will likely re-gear at same time. Probably not run over 33 maybe 34-5s but I tend to do lots of highway so like the lighter tires. Do you think the stock JK front is up to mild with occasional heavy use with smaller tires? I don't mind welding on some trusses/gussets if needed. Any information is appreciated.... been out of the game for quite a while ha ha, just don't want to spend good money after bad.

In your situation the front Dana 30 is fine, I’d prefer a hi pinion 30 over a low pinion, but I’ve seen built low pinion 30s and impressed with the capabilities. The high pinion axle solves a lot of geometry problems up front like caster and pinion angle so if you did upgrade a HP 44 would be a direct swap without all the modifications.unless you bought an axle outright from Currie or g2 axle. You want a weak point on the 30 to be the outter ujoint or stub shaft on the axle shafts. Go chromoly inner shafts and stock outers, and stiffen the axle with a truss or sleeves with some inner C gussets and you’ll have a pretty reliable axle.

@@ATEMOFFROAD Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! Had a rough start with this thing repaired some engine issues, and a few mistakes made by previous owner, but now I am feeling confident enough to start making it more off road worthy! Not quite as fun to drive as my old TJ or XJ but pretty nice on the road and the gas mileage is not bad for a brick. The nice thing is being able to score some really good deals on used parts!

Nice 👍🏼 I’d love to eventually get one for my green tj, that’s the one I’ll be cutting up, but around here they are either non existent or way out of my price range. I think this 30 will do great for especially how light I am up front. Thanks for watching 🍻

If it's a TJ44 the only things D44 are the differential and gears. The C's, ball joints and even (I believe) the tubes are D30.
