Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- This video will take you deep inside the mechanical and operational upgrades on my 2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ, the one known as the Generic Jeep. Basic specs: 4.0L in-line six, NV3550 trans, Rubicon 4:1 transfer case, Dynatrac ProRock 44 and 60 with 4.88s and Air Lockers. The suspension uses 4-inch coils, Currie control arms and track bars, and Bilstein shocks. The 1-inch body lift and trimmed flares clear 35x12.50-15 Cooper S/T Maxx tires on 15x10 steel wheels.

My favorite mod is the LED light bar delete.
KevinM Seriously. I’m self-conscious about even the small round lights.
@@TheDavidFreiburger lol don't be they look perfect and have a clear purpose and add to the Jeep. btw your rig is way way better then i think you give it credit for and is better then 90% or more of the jeeps out there and us common folk are quite impressed.
Don’t know why all these people are driving on tails at night
Headles Norseman they’re so you can see the Orange Julius stand from Section A3.
I have lots of offroad lights but then again they are a necessity for me and a life saver out here in the dusty mid Arizona desert.
Two uploads in two days? Sweet!
I quite like these plain-and-simple short videos. Less fluff and more detail than the shows.
Could we please see more stuff like this, Mr. Freiburger?
You don't need the high production of a multi-person crew to have a good video.
trying hard to promote that bullshit app with a pay wall. Just subscribe to Finnegans Garage its way better
Thank you Mr. Frieburger. I’ve been following you for about 20 years. I’ve always had 4wd trucks. Just bought a 97 TJ. Respect from Canada.
Roadkill is now exclusive to MotorTrend, but Freidburger talking about the nuances of the vehicles he owns is UA-cam ready. Very interesting, ready for more.
I love the 4WOFFROAD license plate, a humble nod to the magazine I'm guessing.
Hanson Schmid Yup, Ive had that plate since Inwas the editor
Freiburger: "This thing is built to be bulletproof and will never fail on the trail with how we use it!"
Also Freiburger: "We stopped because the transfer case shifter fell apart."
😂😂😂
I'm pretty sure he meant like a proper breakdown that would result in the car being unfixable on the spot and/or require towing.
That's what happens when you talk about being unbreakable. It breaks.
AstronomyToday get a Suzuki , get there, watch all the jeeps have fun and actually wheel, go home and be sad. 😂
AstronomyToday haven’t heard that one before, lol that’s actually pretty funny 😄😂😂
Dave can't build anything that doesn't fail - it would break the universe.
Man I love this Jeep. I have JK with 60’s on 40’s and sometimes wish I just had a TJ with this setup. Killer job building a stout rig.
I love your fraze. "I have a scrambler for that."
Your experience really shines through, great video. You talked about everything I wanted to know about, and nothing I didn't.
Good to see you back on youtube. I met you a few yrs ago at dragweek, 131 dragway in Martin Michigan and you signed my vette kart.... I used to watch everything you put out untill roadkill went to motortrend. I tried it for a month , but I'm not giving them money every month for very limited content, when there is so much free quality content available on youtube.
I have a similer TJ minus the pro rocks and stock motor. I run a 4.6 stroker , 8.8 rear and , and mildly built dana 30 while I save for a RCVs and dana 44 swap.
I like using motorcycle chain wax for exposed lubrication points. If it dries in a dust free environment I has almost no sticky tack to it and it is totally waterproof. I like Maxima chain wax.
Amsoil "Metal Protector HD" dries waxy too. I use on all kinds of outdoor stuff like trailer hitches etc and it does a great job as well.
The complete opposite of a Roadkill car. Not much power and safety out the wazoo lol
and way overbuilt driveline. That axle combo is almost what I run for a supercharged 4.0 and a 5500lb LJ and I'm overbuilt as far as driveline. If he breaks his driveline or engine I'd be shocked.
I don't think people understand that the hackery on roadkill is the hackery because its meant to be funny and hilarious...they don't do stuff like that on their own cars
@@2bitmarketanarchist337 this build is literally the total opposite. Madness overkill (except steering). He'd be fine on aired down 37s bouncing rocks. This is basically the total opposite of roadkill.
@@jerseydevil7574 Thats what I'm saying. Roadkill is hackery because hackjobs are fun(in an ironic sense) and funny. They don't do stuff like that to their own cars.
This is good content! No begging for merch sales... nice Jeep. 4.0 fave motor from them.
Really glad you are getting back on youtube!! Keep it up man, Love the content!
I really like these videos where you show your cars and explain what you've done to them. Very cool
Gotta love those 4.0Ls man! My 97 XJ is on 265K and truckin! Daily Driving a lifted XJ is the life
Yeah I have daily driven my 92 xj for nearly 10 years now with bare minimum maintenance on it and it has served me very well as a broke-ass college student. ~200k miles on it.
My 04 rod knocks at 140,thousand ish. 5.9 magnum for the fix
Thanks for the tour; sweet rig, man! I have an '01 lightly modded daily driver (it's not even NEAR the tank you built). Love it.
Love the Jeep! I'm going almost the same route as this with my FJ Cruiser. I'm going to put S/T Maxx on it and a custom shelf at the back as well! The shelf will make the roomy space at the back be more efficient in carrying tools, camping gear, and bags. I wanted to have Bilstein shocks installed as well. I'm planning on putting 6112 on the front and 5160 at the back. I'm sure it'll look pretty close to a stock FJ but will perform great on trails when going camping just like your Generic Jeep. (And hey! I also have a Viair pump! I guess I chose well. LOL!)
Don't know much about jeeps but that one is really a beautiful machine.
Dave, I've been a loyal fan of yours since you were at the helm of Car Craft in the '90's and will continue to be for as long as you put out your specific brand of content, but you are killing me with the sporadic sound quality.
Nice Jeep...did that same trail 4 days ago. Just a little suggestion (u may have and i missed them), but a foldable shovel and a fire extinguisher. Stay safe & have fun exploring!
The reason why your rear shocks were not the right size is because of the shock mount on the axle. Dynatrac moves the mounts a little higher to protect them and this is why your shocks will bottom out before the bump stops contact.
I've been there. Wasn't fun sorting it out
Freiburger, with a surprise Dana 60 in that little TJ. Nice!
Please do a crusher Impala video
What model are the Freiburger flip flops?
**obligatory complaint about MTOD** Love ya Freiburger! :)
Thanks for allowing me to enjoy your TJ without trying to sell me on MTOD.
I run the Terra 2 low in my YJ. I made a shift rod for it using heim joints, and bolted it to the shift of lever and T-case arm. And it worked great for a couple years now.
You could try using graphite spray instead of the liquid wrench, graphite spray leaves a dry libricious film that wont soak up the dust and get worn in the heim.
Swordenchanter88 productions where do you get that from? I’ve been using wd40 for years but always on the hunt for new products to try
Cheap Jeeper graphite spray you can for sure get at Home Depot or any hardware store. Usually kept by the key making matching.
Check out Bechem Lubrication AF 438... Made in Germany anti friction coating. Spray applied.
Don't use liquid wrench to stop the squeaky fasteners. Use Teflon spray

I’m with you on the air box. I’m surprised though that you’re not running the greatest feature of a wrangler... the soft top, down of course. Highway noise be damned!. Love the rear shelf. Very nice TJ
Nice! But I gotta say it kinda bums me to hear someone with a Jeep that's more tricked out than mine say that they only have it for highway/mild trail and camping use. Especially with those drool worthy axles. Makes me feel a little inadequate lol.
Paul Jordan it’s more impressive to do a little less well wheeling a stock-ish Jeep than to do well on something well built.. just sayin..
This is a nice jeep Dave. Good Job , guys on the TJ Wrangler forum would love to see this .
I have a Stone White 2003 Rubicon with 36000 miles .
Is that you Andy G?
@@tristanmiller7468 it is sir , are you on the forum??
@@andygullion5182 yes I am, as Tj starting!
@@tristanmiller7468 man that makes my day... Now is this your video or did we just bump into each other watching the same one.
@@andygullion5182 not my video, just saw your comment and wondered it was was the Andy I thought it was.
Thanks for the tour, now lets see it in action!
Try the stienyager cable kit for the tcase..works amazing
RIP Bika! I bet she's puking on people up in heaven!
It still kinda blows my mind that when you have access to everything you do (the F-bomb, Superbee, the various tetanus-mobiles of the roadkill fleet) that you have a sane daily driver.
@@kurtlamprecht93 Fair point
Needs a 2016, or newer Ford, Chevy, Jeep
Thanks for sharing this David, it couldn't have been posted at a better time as I'm actually looking at a 02 tj tomorrow.
I got a used VIAIR pump on eBay once with a busted connected and some messed up wiring, which I rebuilt, and omg, that thing was a monster. It'd pump up my tires almost as fast as a gas station pump would.
Nice Jeep. I recently just bought my first 1997 TJ. Unfortunately mine is automatic with the 4 cyl. I love watching RoadKill Garage!
Hey David, just so you know ,those pin's on the front will only pull about 500 lbs before they break and fly everywhere. The sheer strength is more if the recever is used. D- ring's don't cost very much and you might save someone's life.
Every time you post this Jeep I want one.
Pretty sure that 4.0 straight 6 performs very close to the new V6 in the JL's. Nice to see one with Dynatrack axle housings !
Good to see you guys are ok after the earthquake,
Love the Ka-Bar under the seat! 😁
I love my KaBar.
Nice little rig ! Dig the storage deal out back... Great days to you !
My Dynatrac 60/80 combo is the single best thing I ever got for my Rubi. Should be standard:)
The Wrangler and 2011-2022 current WK2 Grand Cherokee's must have the most built of all Jeeps and the most abundant parts available yet!
Yep...thanks ..I have a 03' Rubicon bilsteins w stock wheels n goodyears..but no winch
Consider changing out the 10 inch wheels for 8 inch- maybe that would help the issue with the tires. Absolutely worth doing if you air down anyways -it made popping the bead a rare thing for me after I switched. I mostly dune my full sized truck in Glamis but I’m aired down to 14psi up front and the rear is usually 10-12psi (when not running paddles) it was amazing how much better the narrower wheels performed.
That looks like a Rock Hard TJ sport cage. Those collars they use look exactly like the ones found in my JK cage. I love your Jeep I am planning on upgrading my JK for similar purposes. Already been through the Rubicon at this point I want to make it a bulletproof moderate wheeling rig.
Brett Waldon I think you’re right, thanks
Double check front shocks. RE used beilsteen for thier monotube shocks.
videos like this with Elana and dave are what was great about roadkill extra. it got mostly garbage year 2. (just the extras)
I miss u guys so bad.
Next, some coil springs, long arms, steering and track bar braces lol.
Those steel wheels look better than most of the expensive wheels that we usually see.
I just got an '05 TJ Sport with a 4" lift and 35" tires, it looks like you have an inch of body lift though. Wish I wasn't on the Dana 30/35 axles with no posi but I love it.
Yes, I do have a 1-inch body lift
@@TheDavidFreiburger It looks awesome! Maybe one day I'll do it too..
That's a rock hard roll bar
Thank you for showing the Jeep
What i find interesting is you have an 02 but you have the single windshield squirter found in the 03 and newer. I have an 02 and i have the same single squirter as well. I only learned this when i bought my louvered hood vent and it wouldn't work.
Generic Jeep is a pretty solid rig!
I have a 2002 TJ as well. Best damn wrangler they made if you ask me (CJ isn't a wrangler but if it was then there would be a tie). Love your TJ DF!!!
Love the look of cj's (almost all atleast) but fuck leaf spring, a tj is just so more civilized to drive
That knife you pulled out from under the seat is called a Ka-Bar and it was used by the US Marines
Just a suggestion... Instead of Liquid Wrench, try Würth HHS-K synthetic penetrating spray lubricant. It is by far the best I've ever used.
I always wondered about your private owned vehicle.
Cool to see it.
Absolutely sick looking tj mate, love how the factory 4l motor
beautiful jeep
Love the TJ vids. Come to all-4-fun!
Cool points for the KaBar !
Should invest in the Novak Conversion shift linkage. Replaces the lever style with a simple cable.
Can you do a follow up on this practical TJ
Hey Dave do you have video on how you did the calculations on what size shocks need
i used 6" long travel shocks on my 4" TJ lift
Question for my fellow Jeepers. Do you think the Jeep Wave is dying off? More and more it seems like I hold out my hand, and I just get a blank stare back. Anybody else noticing this?
same thing with motorcycles ;(
Yessir
Keep the Jeep content coming.
Hey David, awesome setup on your Jeep! but I think we would like some sort of video on the Crusher Impala, really interested in the in depth of that!
Rick I’ll get to it eventually
Thanks alot, David!
VERR NICCE!! I’m not a Jeep guy.. I’m a first gen 4runner guy... but this is sweet!
im a car guy and i just got a jeep like yours.. COOL.. sub earned
Please upload more videos. I miss the UA-cam David
HEY good to hear your voice. Nice video on a good basic jeep. All you need is auxilliary heater for cold winter nights in BC CANADA and chains. Yep you and the kid are going to go cool it.CAT likes the hiding place.
Nice, so well prepared. I missed where you have your fire extinguisher mounted. I keep hoping to see the best place to mount one near the driver.
Sweet ride I may have to say perfect camping JEEP
Just goes to show that sometimes a simple setup is the best setup
I know David is a Wrangler guy but has he ever owned or talked about an XJ? I'm an XJ lover and curious on his opinion of them.
Me too. I have been on the hunt for a nice xj for a daily driver. Never had a jeep, but i would really love an xj
@@Bryan-kl5rr I have one for sale, already lifted and 32" tires.
Only the best for Dave!
Please tell me if you're going to part with the Spud truck. Really want it. Will keep it all the same except for the wood pickets. Another thing, when you and your crew are at junk yards, especially junkyard gold, maybe give info on the cars, like if they are titled and available to purchase. Maybe at the end of episodes, " If you are interested in any or all call *****, and give this reference #.". You guys are livin' the dream! Besides, you have to do more ford's 385 series. The mfi's are bad ass!
I keep watching Jeep videos and working on my dads jeeps with him and I’m gonna find myself buying one lol
Having owned a cherokee and the exact. Same year wrangler. Get a cherokee.more room for people and cooler / gear / etc.
This is how fans want to connect with people through UA-cam
My mans beard coming back!
Serious question here am about to trade my 79 A-team shorty van with the 350 sbc engine no rust freshly painted with 15x10 american mags runs great dual exhaust Flowmaster
I don't know why 2-low isn't a thing.
I use the equivalent (low range, centre diff unlocked) on my Defender quite often. It's great for manoeuvring heavy trailers or just when you want more choice of gears.
Love it. It’s done so well and it’s the perfect name for the look of the thing. I’d love to do exactly what you’ve done to my TJ. Id like to head out west and explore, the mud in the Midwest just isn’t my style anymore lol
Do you ever watch "Matt's Off Road Recovery"??? Have to tell you as soon as I started watching his channel I started dreaming up an episode of DED or Roadkill Garage (or whatever show currently is looking for a content idea) where you guys get together and wheel. Totally think the personalities would mesh and the viewership would be quite large and enthusiastic. Take a look?
I think you meant 241 transfer case. Great lookin TJ I’ve always been a sucker for white, looks the best dirty 😜
Steventure Correct
David Freiburger loved the KA-BAR under the seat btw. I have my fire extinguisher there but to each their own lol
When are you guys bringing roadkill back to UA-cam??, where it belongs, free and accessible to all
Nicely equipped Jeep!
Get Novak's cable shifter for you transfer case. . . It's life changing
Cool. Jeep... Very well balanced for what you do with it.... ( good luck on the transfer case ).. OH.. and Cadillac Man is right.. Give us an update when you re do the engine in the Crusher Impala !!
