    Lots of uninformed comments here, i am a BJJ brown belt and ex MT practitioner who has also trained in Southern Mantis for over 10 years and i can tell you this; no martial art is complete but you can take elements of any martial art and use them to complete yourself as a martial artist.
    Benefits of Chow Gar training; extreme grip development, body and bone and tendon conditioning, multi angled striking and the ability to hold composure whilst being hit, develops heavy hands.
    Will benefit martial artists of any style.

    Beautiful! This is probably the most original former of mantis I've seen and the internal power aspect depicted by this amazing man is just phenomenal. The hours and years and the focus and intent behind everything is what separates masters ...

    Thanks for the video. I took White Crane Kung Fu at the Cheuk Tong Tse Kung Fu Academy in the 1970s. The grandmaster came from China with some students and other masters of other kung fu styles to Hawaii for 2 days for a kung fu demonstration. My dad was the MC for it. I think after the grandmaster passed away Cheuk became the grandmaster. A disciple is still running the academy in the country on Oahu today.

      @@hagaibinsealtiel3745 Unfortunately that's absolute Chinese BS and most kung fu masters have never had a fight and in a street fight with an aggressive fighter, wouldn't do well. Kung Fu is sadly full of lies and myths.

    • @TheStrataminor
      @TheStrataminor Рік тому

      I guess that's largely it...Kung Fu builds up the older masters who usually have never had a fight, and are paper tigers but students honour them and continue the myth that they are learning martial arts that actually work when sorry, they don't. I saw a clip of a 90+ years old Chinese master, he was a really skinny and bony tiny old man, using only one hand to hold the pole stick by the rear end, and lifting it slowly all the way from the ground to mid-air. The pole stick was similar to the one at 6:30 in this video. That's not an easy task, I don't think I can do it in my primal years.

    What a great video compilation! Thanks for the upload. Kung-fu is generally such a mixed bag, but chow gar is one of those trad tough styles that provides a specific set of tools and abilities, no-nonsense and hard to train in. Probably maximise it if you come to it as a black belt in some other style.

    I've done many kinds of martial arts since 1978, including BJJ. Now it seems too much attention is placed on MMA, because people find it exciting and realistic in a real fight. That's okay, but I like to appreciate these traditional martial arts for their artistic quality and discipline. If you are lucky to find a real master, which is not easy since everyone claims to be a master, then you really can discover a power that is seldom displayed.

    • @SurvivalSpheres
      @SurvivalSpheres Рік тому +2

      You bring up an interesting topic, I also use music often. What still puzzles me is the question of personal taste. What I consider "disturbing" may work greatly for others and vice versa. While normally I can respect that, there are certain kinds of music where I just can not. The goes up to a point where I will accuse people of 'not having understood their art at all' if they combine it with such certain kinds of music. Maybe I am wrong to think so, I just don't know. Another chapter of self-discovery may bring clarity one day...

      I've witnessed the same thing before and I remember I was absolutely shocked when I was younger. A true master I looked up to in every aspect, wonderful Qi Gong performance and knowledge of internal fighting styles, including Chinese philosophy about health, medicine and even cosmic principles! And then, during Chinese New Year's celebration? Smoking a cigarette. The response to my question, which must have seemed a bit naive and like a typical Westener's question: "Nah boy it's okay if you don't do it too often." Makes you think, eh?
      As regards the master in this video however, it could also be a stick or straw. Or a cigar that remains unlit, just for some taste or chewing habit rather than actual smoking. Heck what do I know :-D
