The paranoid tone of the episode and the eerie soundtrack, not the mention the Alien feel was what made it for my watch list. I have to say, though, that the parasites resemble some kind of crustacean, like something I might find on a menu at the Red Lobster near Alpha Centauri. 🖖😁
I agree. It's a really tough portion of the game too, and really makes the Bluegill look like absolute monsters. And it was nice to see an otherwise forgotten Star Trek creature return to the forefront where it could really be seen for the threat it was always capable of being. Then again, STO always seems to enjoy bringing up esoteric Trek episodes and using them for inspired new content; like bringing the Excalbians and Yarnek into the game.
@Heschewingonit It's older, but the devs have been updating it constantly. There's new stuff based on Discovery material, as well as updated visual improvements and changes and upgrades to the system. And if you don't want to pay, you don't have to. It's actually quite a good game to get if you want some Star Trek fun that takes place about 10 years after Picard does. Plus, so many old cast and crew return to voice themselves in the game too. Give it a try. It's free to play now, so you don't have to worry about paying a subscription. See if you like it now. You might find you enjoy it. And there's no risk involved.
Schisms was another TNG episode about hostile aliens who are defeated then send out a signal into the galaxy with another "I dont know what they sent out" at the end. And it's never followed up on. Though not canon I appreciate what STO did by connecting these two episodes and aliens to the Iconians.
In a way, they repurposed a lot of the concepts of the parasites into the Borg and Changelings. The Borg had the idea of taking people over and subjugating the individual to the group, while the Changelings had the paranoia aspect and not being able to tell friend from foe. Combining the two would really make for a formidable foe, especially if the creatures can reproduce like the insects they look like.
As an old school fan, who was there when the original Star Trek series premiered, I really appreciate your channel and want to thank you for highlighting this TNG episode. I accepted the first season only because I was happy for a revival. But THIS story sent me into orbit and really made me hungry for more.
This was a great episode. As a fan it seemed unthinkable that the Federation itself could be subverted by an alien invasion and yet they took that risk. I never knew about the connection with the Borg and that seems to explain why these parasites never came back. I really felt that this episode could have been the basis for a TNG movie.
Yes, another episode of Back Trek! I think it was interesting how this episode was so very close to not making it into production. Hopefully the plot thread may see things wrapped up with the new series coming up.
Cool video I have always remembered this episode ever since I saw it as a kid and has been a favorite of mine. Part of me would like to see a resolution but the other part likes the mystery and unknown to keeps you up at night wondering.
I like the scenes of Dr. Crusher showing up at the door with her phaser and Data presenting the conclusions of his analysis of the record search to the captain
I would have enjoyed seeing more regarding the parasites and the signal that Remmick sent out to "God-knows-where." Also, I actually liked the "horror" element that was brought into this, although I'm sure Gene hated it. Despite its flaws (and boy does this episode have them), I very much enjoyed "Conspiracy" and is one of my favorites from the first season.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios And yet so many immediately run back to "Its not Roddenberry's vision" when they try to bitch about Abrams or Discovery or Picard. I've mentioned it before, but the post DS9 novels continued the story of the parasites. While not canon, they did an excellent job of using them and tying them into existing Star Trek lore. I would have loved to see TNG have a series unifying arc like DS9 did with the Dominion. Also if you look closely at the parrot you can see it has Gean's face in response to his nickname of the great bird of the galaxy.
The parrot seen in the episode was an Easter egg of sorts. The parrots head is supposed to be of Gene Roddenberry. It's meant to be a literal version of Gene's nickname of "the great bird of the galaxy"
I loved this episode when it first aired in 1988. I can see why they didn't use these little creatures for the Borg, though. The SFX would have been ridiculously expensive back then.
Yeah I always wondered if this plot was supposed to be the Borg but then it was felt that they weren't menacing enough and so the threat was changed to the Borg. Really wish they would have at least had 1 more episode later in the series to wrap this up. But yeah, Voyager would have been an interesting place to explore this...
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I, too, was hoping for it to come up in VOY, but it's probably the closest we're going to get. I don't think it's going to come up in any of the other shows. Hell, DIS missed a HUGE opportunity, in my opinion, with May Ahern (sp?).
I saw this episode when I was 5 years old. It aired in Canada with a warning. I was horrified and obsessed with it. I watched almost every episode of next gen with my dad... for years... to see if it would air again. I never saw it again... I started to wonder if the episode was even REAL. I only was able to actually prove to myself that it was, after they added it to netflix..... I live in Canada... but I only saw it in 1988.... If it still aired after that I never saw it... and I watched TNG nearly every day just to check.
I would love to see them somehow have a story with the Borg. Not as an relative but maybe a driven out of home creature. They may hve been with a species like the Trill. Symbiotic in Nature depending on that host creature to be on an higher level of cultur becuae s tiny bug you would have to build a bug star ship to travel the space etc. Than the Borg found that species assimilated the host easily manipulating their "interface" for the symbiote. Desperate for a solution they somehow encountered Star Trek and found at least most of them aible to host an symbiote even if it wasn't the and the human biology of their new host wpuld be vastly different deom what they are used to . One thing im interested in is if this episode somehow inspired Stargates Goa'uld. So thanks for making this video and sharing it. Internetlove from Germany stay save and sane.
I remember this episode it was pretty tense and creepy as it went along, it sucks they didn’t go anywhere with it in the series’, atleast STO did something with the parasites, also it was more creepy when that signal was broadcasting while the Enterprise flew off screen.
Yep I really wish they had at least tied up this plot thread before they got sidetracked with the Borg. Saying that however, Picard is the ideal show to finally get some answers and tidy this plot hole up for good, they could at a push even use Discovery to do this now it is in the future........
this episode scared the hell out of me when i first watched it as a kid. Watching Remmick head blows up and then seeing the mother creature gave me chills and horror. I still was scared at the end of the episode when Data told them about the homing beacon and i was left wondering what's going to happen next? This storyline could have been used maybe in TNG movie, that would have been interesting, maybe Star Trek Nemesis?? Who knows?
Didn't you know that parrot was a Starfleet Commodore? Just kidding... Seriously, I have no clue why it was there. Conspiracy might be my favorite season 1 episode of TNG and I do wish it did have a conclusion.
One of the more interesting & memorable episodes at least for me. Perhaps it's better we don't get it wrapped up......an eerie, ominous mystery out there?. 🖖 also from 🇨🇦
that was not a parrot btw...that was Gene Roddenberry's head on a bird's body... "great bird of the galaxy" . He's probably there as a gag, but it could be that since he incepted trek, he's there . lol

Ronald moore called the first 2 seasons of tng almost unwatchable. I don't necessarily agree with that statement but I think the story telling definitely sharpened up from season 3 on. I admit I really liked pulaski in season 2. Back to the video at hand, Torme definitely swatted this out of the park. Really enjoy this channel. Thanks for doing it.
I read the exploding head of Remmick is actually a mould head cast of the late Paul Newman and they put raw meat on it to create the flesh Voyager was supposed to get the parasites sometime in the 4th or 5th season they find the homeworld but the idea was scrapped
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios it would make for a interesting fan film if CBS don't do it. Problem is it's buried under what I would say are greater stories that people often forget about it. I mean ask any fan greatest moments of TNG and I recon most would forget this one.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios that's not what I meant 🤣 I said if CBS don't do it. As it don't go back to this plot. Never meant it would be a problem. It would explain alot of star fleets actions if the parasites were still around
YES! So we're STILL on the same page :P Niice :) Because of the length of time now, and the fanbases penchant to bitch... You are right it would have to be done right no matter what... Or Ill end up having to spend half a dozen episodes of Truth OR Myth correcting the nonsense :P
The Klingons can take direct blows to the skull as they practise headbutts, almost ritually, during their friendly gatherings. Almost like a tough guy at a bar taking a direct gut shot to show their toughness. They tend to mess around with his character, reduce his intellect, and his ability to think tactically, and strategically. Klingons are a warrior race, but somehow Worf skipped the gene where they plan, and consider battle, and the results of it. The way the show used him, killed off characters, or killed off Jadzea Dax, was foolish. I liked her character a lot better then her replacement.
I wouldn't be so hard on the stunt doubles. This was an era before HD TV. For much of the population. It was over intena where the local UHF station had crappy reception. The idea of blu-ray 1080P recreations. Was a dream of a madman.
I considered that, however, when I originally watched this episode on a standard definition picture tube television is was CLEAR that wasnt Riker or the Admiral back then to a very young me who didnt care about those things... So that makes it a complete failure :P
I can see how a show designed mainly for SD on TVs that were mostly under 30" wouldn't need to be that picky with the stunt doubles. Of course, TOS wasn't even very good with stunt people on that format, probably because it was being viewed over the air originally and static hid a lot of flaws.
I considered that, however, when I originally watched this episode on a standard definition picture tube television is was CLEAR that wasnt Riker or the Admiral back then to a very young me who didnt care about those things... So that makes it a complete failure :P
LaForge makes a joke when he says "Full impulse." He overhears Riker and Troi talking about their excitement to get to Pacifica, so when Riker orders him to *increase* speed, LaForge jokes that he is *reducing* speed.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios It is the explanation that makes the most sense! Alternatively, maybe Geordi's joking that in addition to increasing the warp speed, he's also put on the impulse engines to give them a little extra speed!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Well, it was S1 TNG. But Geordi and Data were frequently telling each other jokes at conn/ops, and Geordi and Riker always had a casual friendship as well. Interestingly, it was not scripted, so maybe was ad-libbed by Levar Burton (or from a last minute script revision).
Remmick was NOT yet infected the first time he came to the Enterprise . the mother creature probably didn't arrive to sector 001 yet , only its pawns . or it was residing inside someone else at the time (they can move from person to person)
What?! Of course it HAD! That was the reason Quinn was investigating Picard... Remember he warned him about something happening at Starfleet Command... And since Remmick has the mother creature, he HAD to have had it... As to residing in someone else? Huh? You did watch the episode right? You saw how BIG and how VERY different the creature was from the tiny things right? That cant just move from one person to another... That's just silly, and illogical... You cant make up things and present them as fact IE The mother Creature being able to move from person to person... There is NO evidence that that VERY different looking creature can move anywhere else!
I would have written off ST:NG as a total loss (on a much smaller level of fail when compared to the current disasters masquerading as Star Trek) had it not been for the last two seasons....Everything prior was, for the most part, forgettable.
Season one TNG was still allot better than Voyager. Voyager was as corny as season one TNG with terrible cinematography ( shakey suspenseful digital zoom)
yes this is exactly why I absolutely dislike everything about the Klingons and they only ruin everything I like about the show.. a race of warriors who are left unconscious on the ground or even die after the one hit.. they keep talking about honor and then kill an opponents from behind when someone else distracts them and all those episodes with Worf and their awesome rituals, oh give me a break..

I do hope we get to see these again. in the right hands you could have a very good episode arch
Amen :)
I would have loved to see TNG have a series unifying arc like DS9 did with the Dominion. Also if you look closely at the parrot you can see it has Gean's face in response to his nickname of the great bird of the galaxy.
Me too! And yes, I know why it's there, but it makes no sense in universe :P
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios maybe it wss some sort of Federation rescue/conservation project.
The parrot seen in the episode was an Easter egg of sorts. The parrots head is supposed to be of Gene Roddenberry. It's meant to be a literal version of Gene's nickname of "the great bird of the galaxy"
Oh Im aware, but in universe, it doesnt make sense :P
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios very very true! Lol
I loved this episode when it first aired in 1988. I can see why they didn't use these little creatures for the Borg, though. The SFX would have been ridiculously expensive back then.
I was wondering what had happened to those invaders. Might be an interesting episode.
A great video. Canada eh? I knew I liked you. :)
Yes! Thank you David :) BTW My name is David as well :P
These are the Dave's I know I know, these are the Dave's I know.
I enjoy these and I'm looking forward to Season 1 Pt 2.
The reused Star Fleet HQ clip has Tellerites in it. The only time they are seen in TNG?
Yeah I always wondered if this plot was supposed to be the Borg but then it was felt that they weren't menacing enough and so the threat was changed to the Borg. Really wish they would have at least had 1 more episode later in the series to wrap this up. But yeah, Voyager would have been an interesting place to explore this...
We did get an answer.
The DS9 Relaunch novels tied them to the Trill symbiots in a way I found most satisfying.
Sorry, since Novels arent Canon, there are meaningless fun rather then an actual answer!
I think it should have a proper conculsion in the futer.
That would be nice :)
I wish they would have completed the story arc since Reddick did send out a beacon to the unknown area in space.
Me too! :)
I always felt like the parasite should have been connected to the creature from operation annihilate
That would have been an interesting connection :)
I wonder if there's any connection between the parasites and the aliens found on ceti alpha 5....
It would be interesting if there was! :)
Certainly look very similar!
I remember this episode it was pretty tense and creepy as it went along, it sucks they didn’t go anywhere with it in the series’, atleast STO did something with the parasites, also it was more creepy when that signal was broadcasting while the Enterprise flew off screen.
My favorite season 1 episode
Mine too! :)
I really love this Video.
Yep I really wish they had at least tied up this plot thread before they got sidetracked with the Borg. Saying that however, Picard is the ideal show to finally get some answers and tidy this plot hole up for good, they could at a push even use Discovery to do this now it is in the future........
This was like maybe one of the first good episodes
this episode scared the hell out of me when i first watched it as a kid.
LOL Well in real life it was there as a joke, a physical representation of Gene Roddenberry! But in universe, it makes no sense :P
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Perhaps the species of "The Great Bird of the Galaxy" was a parasitic entity meddling in Starfleet affairs, too. ;-)
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios May the Great Bird of the Galaxy bless this channel! 🖖😉
Lind of like they made Oggie Boogie from Nightmare before Christmas as new Starfleet enemy. At least this had how it reminded me of. Lol
He's probably there as a gag, but it could be that since he incepted trek, he's there . lol

Rick saved star trek.
I 100 percent agree
Not only do I agree with this statement, but it's 100% factually correct! :)
I tend to think Michael Pillar in connection with Berman saved TNG.
@@supersawyer358 I dont, Michael Pillar was a bad writer, with most of his solo stories filled with plot holes and inconsistencies...
Maybe it will tie into the Picard show!
I read the exploding head of Remmick is actually a mould head cast of the late Paul Newman and they put raw meat on it to create the flesh
Voyager was supposed to get the parasites sometime in the 4th or 5th season they find the homeworld but the idea was scrapped
Star Trek online really evolved the storyline on these
Indeed they did!
Reminiscent of the Seti Alpha 5 creature
I think they should have used the parasite aliens from Conspiracy as the main bad guy for ST: Picard.
That's right, don't trust Anyone!
But you can always trust me... I'm no one... and you can always trust No one.😀
It would actually be cool if thay addressed this in Picard
Worf is the worst security officer in the galaxy.
Way I always saw it. Once the mother of the parasite was dead they all stopped working and the infected admirals don't realise what happens
It's just sad that we never went back to this plot thread :(
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios it would make for a interesting fan film if CBS don't do it.
Problem is it's buried under what I would say are greater stories that people often forget about it.
I mean ask any fan greatest moments of TNG and I recon most would forget this one.
Oh Oh I think we have our first point of disagreement... :P Why would CBS doing it be a problem?
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios that's not what I meant 🤣
I said if CBS don't do it. As it don't go back to this plot. Never meant it would be a problem.
It would explain alot of star fleets actions if the parasites were still around
YES! So we're STILL on the same page :P Niice :)
Because of the length of time now, and the fanbases penchant to bitch... You are right it would have to be done right no matter what... Or Ill end up having to spend half a dozen episodes of Truth OR Myth correcting the nonsense :P
In Germany the Commander desth are also Cut
Weird right?
TriAngulum Audio Studios yes
Not any more. On Tele 5 it was shown uncut
In the uk comander remik ( remek ) death has been aded back in the episode
Indeed it was... I was speaking at the time :P

LaForge makes a joke when he says "Full impulse." He overhears Riker and Troi talking about their excitement to get to Pacifica, so when Riker orders him to *increase* speed, LaForge jokes that he is *reducing* speed.
Sorry dont buy it!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios It is the explanation that makes the most sense! Alternatively, maybe Geordi's joking that in addition to increasing the warp speed, he's also put on the impulse engines to give them a little extra speed!
Alternatively, maybe he was hitting the good stuff before they reached Pacifica!
@@jeffbenson7278 I just dont buy it at all, as that type of thing has never done before or since! :P
Hey I had that Stuff It Binder
And the ate meal worms!
Sorry Steve, Ive heard that before, but sadly was not able to confirm that to include it in the video :(
Parasites, Dinosaurs and Soligen based beings - went nowhere in Trek
One can only imagine the reaction if this episode was released during The Original Series
LOL it wouldnt have been :P
I thought Conspiracy was a good episode. With 30 years of retrospect, the special effects were kind of silly. But I liked it.
Voyager was as corny as season one TNG with terrible cinematography ( shakey suspenseful digital zoom)

i never liked this episode
yes this is exactly why I absolutely dislike everything about the Klingons and they only ruin everything I like about the show.. a race of warriors who are left unconscious on the ground or even die after the one hit.. they keep talking about honor and then kill an opponents from behind when someone else distracts them and all those episodes with Worf and their awesome rituals, oh give me a break..
