I have only been in this world for 65 years and Pat Metheny has graced more than 50 years of it...along with Lyle Mays...RIP Mr. Mays, you are immortal in my world.
Me too brother!
A new Pat Metheny release is like welcoming a old friend you haven't seen for years ., and you feel like you can pick up where you left off, just from hearing the first few moments of this musical Magic
like when avdol is alive.
And a most welcome one, at that!
I love how you put that, welcoming an old friend indeed.
This is truly truly magical. I am a life long Metheny head (first show, As Falls Wichita, circa 1980, Denton TX) and to my ears this the best thing I've heard in a long time. Super stoked to see him (in this trio?) in Boulder this fall. Speaking of As Falls this tune brings me back to that amazing, idiosyncratic album...also a trio, no?
Cheers!
@@uberjam-sam8512 I feel like this will be his best album since Imaginary Day.
@@uberjam-sam8512 Absolutely.. Will be at Boulder, show, then Paramount Denver Saturday night.
This has a real "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls" vibe, and that, to me, is a Good Thing.
I've loved Pat Metheny since 1985 when I saw and heard him for the first time here, in Valencia, Spain. Since then, I have all his records and have seen him more than 12 times. He is the soundtrack of my life.
stop living in other peoples reality.
I saw him twice in Madrid along with the PMG. Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays were the best musicians I have heard.
I couldn’t have said it finer María! I agree with You, He is the soundtrack of my life!
I am agree with both, María and Livestock.
HA HA, I'VE SEEN HIM "37" TIMES SINCE 1992..."SECRET STORY" TOUR!! I BEAT YA, I BEAT YA.
This puts a smile in my heart and a tear in my eye (for Lyle Mays).
Yes Teresa, same here about the Great Lyle. RIP.
Complete agree!!!
It's hard to get past lyle he was genius but this guy deserves some heavy duty recognition hes remarkable in his own right.
Lyle was the elegance made music. It's a pity he is no longer with us.
Lyle was more than most likely a Satanic music industry sacrifice just to set the record straight. 👿
Pat Metheny is a universal treasure!
Amen!
Truth...and universal at that....
For the centurys!!!
Always an forever!! 🎼💝🎼
He truly is in every sense of the world
How is it possible that brand new music makes me feel like it's '77 again?
He hears it from so many, but if anyone has ever affected my life with their music, it's Pat Metheny.
Amen!
I pray to god Pat lives to be 120 years old and continues playing and composing!!!!!!!!!
Clap!
JUST 120 years?
Agreed!!
Long live for the Master.Pt.
I don't pray. I am sure.
I am sure that I became a better human since listening to Pat
Auf jeden Fall! Für mich war er bahnbrechend. Bin direkt vom Heavy Metal zu ihm rüber. Dazu noch Paco de Lucia. Was für eine Segnung!
I listen to his music since the early 80s. I‘m still the same.
This is a seriously good track. Pat is dealing with one of the most basic building blocks of tonal music - the 3rd interval.
Descending thirds E-C D-B C-A... exploring different lengths of phrases, constantly evolving, an alert and honest composer who's constantly in the moment ❤️
And that beautiful, imaginative ending...wow!
Truth...
Amen, I am no expert musician by any means, but have been involved with music since age 4, drums and percussion, later studying violin and piano into my teens and developing my chops as a drummer until now, always researching and investigating the deeper realms of melody and how to use that mindset as a drummer and performance dj. Pat Metheny has always been like enjoyable homework that you never have an issue to sit and meditate over!!! I cannot site one composition that didn't challenge my audio receptors. His new works are timely and exquisite to the mind , body and spirit!
3 sets of descents of major thirds.. but the last one is a minor third. Interesting insight @Dr.Guy Thks
Thank you Dr. Guy!
this is metheny's "tom sawyer."
When Pat plays...I close my eyes and go on a magical journey, when the music stops...I open my eyes and I'm back home!!!
It's True...
Me too..
@@AngelRodriguez-ih4nm
The music just takes you to another world, place and time!!!
That's Ecological Jazz...inspired by our Sacred Mother Nature, and the Infinite Universe, and that's where I go whenever I hear his Magical Soundscapings !...
So True Bro
There's a world in here. No: a universe.
I can finally feel it. Pat Metheny is back on the roots of his group; The Pat Metheny Group. From the self-titled debut to From This Place. This one right here sounds better like Minuano, Last Train Home, James, and Yolanda, You Learn. Pat Metheny is one of the passionate jazz guitarists of our time. If Lyle Mays smiling down at him, his music and legacy will change everything. I ain't gonna lie to you fans of Pat Metheny, that's how his music rejuvenates from generation to generation.
Yeah..agree..

Yes all is true if I understood the comentary
Shawn: This is so right on and true! Thank you! As you said, Pat Metheny is definitely one of the most imaginative and creative musicians on the planet!😀 He consistently has released exciting and engaging art for more than 40 years--though it's difficult to believe that it's been such a stretch of time! He has a unique ability to craft these aural landscapes that suggest taking the listener on an almost endless journey. He takes daring musical risks ("Song X" album) and paints beautiful sonic pastels such as 1992's "Secret Story (from his individual Pat Metheny solo work). As others have said, the late great Lyle Mays definitely would be proud of Mr. Metheny's continuing path of excellence and restless innovation as Mr. Mays was the co-nucleus of the PMG frontier! Thank you, innovator Pat Metheny, God bless the brilliant Lyle Mays, and God bless all! Thank you.🎼🎵🎸🎹🎶
Yes. This is Pat Metheny Group all the way! And Lyle is there in spirit.
It's always a good day when a new Pat Metheny song is released.
Pat is present from God
The world needs more of this great music.
I tell folks who actually claim to **!have never heard of Pat Metheny!**--"Here take this--it's an older CD. Listen to it--you will thank me later.."
Exactly. I've got my tix for this tour.
So true! I do the same! I tried introducing my son in law and he said he’s not into lead guitar! I’m sorry, have you listened to his music? He’s so much more than that! Some people just can’t appreciate genius when they hear it! 😉
This year's Monterey Jazz Festival with Side Eye opening was fantastic! Go see Pat, Joe and Francis if you get a chance.
Got to know his music just yesterday.
Pat is my favorite!! The Best! I would like to recommend that all of the people in this comment section to check out the most phenomenal project (to me) that I've ever heard and seen by this Genius, The Orchestion Project!
My personal favorite musician of all Time!!
totally agree
Certainly on the short list of those you'd have to take to a deserted island...
100%
Absolutely Bar none!! I don’t know what I would do without his music
Last Train Home is still one of my favorite songs
Mine is Phase Dance
Those 2 are my favorites plus CHRIS
Ridiculisciousness!
The Metheny sound unmistakable yet never the same thing twice!!!! So satisfying!!
I've been a Pat fan since "Watercolors" saw him at the Syracuse Jazz Fest twice ,he's a guitar virtuoso. There are times you remember later in life that you hold dearly ,you can't explain to anyone that wasn't there. !
Epic! I have listened to this man's compositions for 50 years and I'm still reduced to tears
Methenys music isn't that bad.
Pat Metheny's music changed my life. 🧡
Likewise...he's truly unique,a Master !...
Back when my fellow band buddy dropped the stylus on that vinyl and Phase Dance began...a whole new universe opened up...what a fantastic journey it has been....

me too💛💙💛
No one else sounds like this. I've been saying this with a big smile for over 40 years. Thank you, Pat. :)
How does one express gratitude for decades, of bliss and happiness shared by many, and given from a world class musician who brings to us other world class musicians for our enjoyment, Thank You Pat Metheny for a beautiful concert here in Albuquerque, NM at the Hispanic Cultural Center. Big love!!
Many of us are witness to the gift that is Pat...beautiful words...adore Albuquerque NM too...special thing happened there for me professionally...
After so many years, every new Pat´s realese I say: "Surprise me". And he does!!! Thanks a lot Pat!!!
I have the same vibe when I listen to pat meheny CD it takes you away from your problems and the world
Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays´ music is a perpetual gift to the mankind,
Got to see the wonderful Pat at Ronnie Scott's London,
Wow oh wow beautiful.
Just went Pat Metheny concert in here LA tonight! Best performance as usual. New keyboard guy looks and sounds like genius. Drumming is so powerful. Pat’s ballad solo made me cry…!!
Pat's Music is the music of my whole life, with all respect to other many creators wich I also love. It is a wonderful mind cleaner.
On ne pouvez mieux le dire...😉

🙌🙌🙌🎸❤️
I've been to several Pat Metheny concerts (with different line-ups) - the first time was in Chicago in 1979. Over 40 years later (omg!) - and I still remember that night. What an amazing artist he is!
Where did he play in Chicago?
I was 11 in 79, didn't know PMG until 1982.
Was the concert at Park West? I may have been there also.I left there a changed person .What an experience.
Great job. Regards from Poland.
What a wonderful way to start the day! Thank you Pat! You've made many people happy this morning! 🌏✌️❤️🎶
A purely magical journey...
Indeed...
This is like the perfect place that only Pat Metheny could arrive at...
The keyboards by James Francies are amazing. Pat is pushing forward again, which is good news for everyone.
I’ve been following James, as has Pat, from his emergence in NYC, his playing with the Roots, and his albums, etc. He is growing fast and it will be fun to follow.
I got to the end and realized it’s live. Sh*t, are you kidding me? Great stuff.
Agreed...and Gwilym in the Unity Group project, with James in the Side Eye project, makes for musical opportunities...this chart stokes me and so on point in this live performance...
Pat always talks about the difficulty of coming up with song titles but he always hits it out of the park when he comes up with a name for a song.
And the musical atmosphere always matches the title perfectly.👍
totally agree! pat's song titles are the best!
A jazzy fruit, straight up heirloom Pat! A recognizable early revisiting…of the Unity Village days.
I love this tune already, ultra melodic groove, ultra modern, Synths, EP, Sequencers, Orchestrion, huge sound for a Trio. In some ways you don't think it is Live as the playing and production are so flawless. Listened to this on (not the last) train home from work, always a joy to hear new music from Pat. Thanks, Daniel.
Pity he can't just play guitar without all the electronic help. The worst.
Haha, a trio? Not quite…
@@ianhope3203 Your opinion. That's one of the things that makes Pat great, expanding the possibilities of the guitar and the sonic space. I can assure you that at this show Pat played plenty of guitar "without electronic help". Listen beyond the "electronics" that offend you here.... you aren't listening to the piece... just the surface.
@@shizukashearn6619 ..feel just the opposite. Should be more electronics and more adventurous. For me, this is not as interesting and alive as his disk w/ Lyle, As Falls Witchita. And that was over 30 years ago!
@@phasespace4700 Right. I hear you... that is true. Pat's career goes in phases so there is usually a bunch of evolutionary parts (which IMO are fine) then a leap. I don't think.we'll ever see a foil to Pat again like Lyle... I see the first part of Side Eye just as Miles did, Pat introduced those guys to the dialect. I will be reviewing Side Eye on my new blog but my review of the Side Eye gig from whence this song is derived is at jazzviewswithcjshearn.tumblr.com. I do love tho how Pat has integrated a new shade of electronics with Francies' playing here. I do understand what you mean about the electronics and adventurousness though. I think that may come in the future
I'm beyond the solar system riding on the waves of Pat's music, but I shall return Nov.13, 2021to witness brilliance at the Strathmore.
This is from the September 13th 2019 show at Sony Hall in NYC which I was at... the drummer is Marcus Gilmore NOT Joe Dyson here... and yes that is the Orchestrion added to the ensemble... just like when Pat used the Synclavier for composing and as an instrument for backgrounds the sound is unmistakable.
Rafa de Argentina Gustta murcho tu musica aca
Great stuff Pat. Thanks for your beautiful music for all these years, we miss Lyles. You might want to add to the title - "It doesn't all end here"
A big fan since 1987. Saw at Montreal Jazz Festival and Berkeley the same summer.
This is a great day! A new PM composition and a new Lyle Mays recording announcing today too!!
Which lyle mays recording ? Sorry but I don’t understand. Thanks
@@billcharliebrown3135 Do a search. Lyle Mays’ new release, Eberhard is out August 27, 2021.
Thank you for the heads up! Just pre-ordered from his website.
R.I.P. Lyle... we miss you.
Fresh, yet classic Metheny. His musical essence is so apparent here.
There are musicians that simply make great music, and then there are musician who push the envelope sonically, from hearing To the end of the world for the first time on a smooth jazz station out of NYC way back when, I have always gravitated to Pat Metheny's musical journey, Im just glad I can bear witness to genius music in my journey as I am a Music Nerd and Proud!!!
This new music from PM is extraordinary. He has always pushed the envelope of style, tempo and composure while retaining a unique sound. What I really enjoy about Pat is his continual exploration into music and not catering to the media or masses. He has always blazed his own trail through the years and continues to do so. I have enjoyed Pat for over 35 years and it just keeps getting better. Here's to many more of savoring your musical journey!
I think Lyle would be happy to know PM is still creating such beautiful and mind clearing music (stole that from someone here in this chain and Sorry, not Sorry I did that....LOL). Count me in with those who consider his music a part of the sound track of their lives. Have been a fan for years....errrr decades and have seen him perform live half a dozen time. PMG never disappoints, never!! Rest in Peace Lyle Mayes, you were taken from us far too soon.
Thank God for Pat Metheny I've been listening to your music since 1978 and your music always help me with my homework when I'm studying and relaxing. Thank you for your music and creativity sincerely a true fan since the 70's and beyond
All the "Groups" of musicians that he has played with, even with the late Lyle Mays, The beautiful guitar work of Pat Metheny stands alone!!
Beacon Theatre ticket purchased! Looking forward to seeing my friend Pat once again. Shaking his hand and getting his autograph (on A Map of The World CD cover), at J&R Music World in Manhattan, over two decades ago, was one of the highlights of my life! 🙂
I saw a live "side eye" in Japan. The newer generations of musician was full of energy and a wonderful performance. And I felt Pat was absorbing that energy and changing himself. I was waiting to hear the performance at that time again.
This seems to be on the same high level as still life talking 😇
Magic. Under a waterfall..
Metheny is the maestro
'From This Place' marked a return to greatness of Pat Metheny's greatest works, Side-NYC V1.IV will take everything to the next level, with new material and reworks of some classics. I just can not wait, 'IT STARTS WHEN WE DISAPPEAR' is just the prelude atmo.
For us baby boomers we love that movie theme sound he has done for the past 35 years. It creates all kinds of nostalgic feelings of the cool 60s espionage and drama and romance movies! Just what we need to get through a pandemic. Like Seal used to say....at times neither the lyrics nor title have to make sense just as long as the music can elevate you to another dimension.
In the late 70s and early 80s, when copyright laws were treated less respectfully, it was not unusual in Winnipeg to hear Pat Metheny clips used as backing tracks for local radio commercials, promos and show themes. I first became aware of Pat as an artist when I borrowed Offramp (the LP, of course) from the public library in 84.
One thing I love about Pat Metheny is that he can make you feel everything when you listen and just let it happen
I remember going alone to see Pat Metheny with Lyle Mays in Tempe, AZ and he opened with percussionists coming down the aisles in the dark playing those opening beats. It was so dramatic and thrilling.
About a third way through the concert, the power went out in Gammage auditorium! For about half an hour!
Pat sat on the stage talking to the audience.
Then, when the power came back on, he insisted on starting the concert all over from the beginning. He said he couldn't pick up where he left off and hoped we all had time for it. Time! Are you kidding me?
We got that dramatic opening twice.
I don't know why this memory is making me cry right now, but it is. It's one of the best memories of any concert I've ever been to.
There is so much specialness in this world when you least expect it sometimes.
Just got tickets for this tour in NYC. So excited!
Yeah he is truly amazing! I've had the pleasure of meeting him, shaking his hand and getting his autograph in NYC (J&R music world) over twenty years ago. He signed my 'Map Of The World' CD. I've enjoyed at least a dozen of his concerts here in NY, NJ and CT. Already bought my ticket for this tour in Manhattan this June. 😊............. RIP Lyle and Mark Ledford. I really miss you guys 😥
@@redtailpilot Oh how I love that Map of the World record. I too had the CD. Fantastic you got to meet him. Maybe we will see you in Manhattan in June..can't wait!
I want to hear his live music in the auditorium sooner or later.
Saw Pat and Side Eye at Monterey Jazz Festival #64 on September 24, 2021.
Attention everyone: Make it a priority to get to the nearest and soonest available show! Travel if necessary. Do not miss.
Note: We are all missing Lyle, a huge loss for sure. But give James Francies his due, he is an unbelievable talent and could well be the next Oscar Peterson. As you listen to his solos, please know that he is also carrying the bass line the entire time. Just wow.
I couldn't agree with you more. Saw this configuration of Metheny when they came to Los Angeles. Absolutely incredible.
"Ray Manzarek.".
It’s cool that Steve Rodby is the executive producer
I love Pat with a passion I can't put into words
word......
A cool breeze is blowing through my brain... I must be flying... 🌄🦅☁
Ears and heart explode with joy at unheard Pat music. Love.
Pat's music is from another realm. He is , to me, THE genius of jazz.
His music is a state of consciousness of the future.
I REMEMBER BACK IN THE 80 S ANND THE 90S, I USE TO GO TOWER RECORDS ON SUNSET IN HOLLYWOOD, THEY ALWAYS HAD, PAT METHENY AND LYLE MAYS, THEY WERE OPEN TILL MIDNIGHT, THE MUSIC MEANT SO MUCH TO ME, STILL DOES, I WILL NEVER STOP WHISPERING THE NAME LYLE MAYS TILL I DIE
Ok I'm gone for 6 months to the hills. Thanks Pat
It sounds like an homagge to Lyle Mays...without any doubt, his spirit is arround this composition. Listening "Before you Go" from Street Dream , 1998 Lyle´s album....
You
...wow -i was just scrolling through the comments thinking exactly the same thing...i shall now pop along to Amazon and buy the CD, i know i'm going to like the rest of it...some music just fits...I miss Lyle...
You’re absolutely right🎹❤️!
You know what...?! It does!
Lyle.... my, oh my, what a gift to humanity... and yes, i feel his spirit in this music ... sounds very much like "before you go"
New “Water Colors” for me Pat. Thanks. Lyle will always me missed ⚡️🎸🔝
Listening again. Harmonically speaking it is absolutely magnificent. A deep travel without any drug. Thanks Pat!!!!
The best!!!! Always and forever!!!!
Thank you. Beautiful expected Pat Metheny sound. Feels unexpectedly beautiful. Each time. It is like opening pandora’s box. You know it will start and pull you in. But you still fall for it and get in this beautiful trouble. As i am slowly disappearing here it starts again. Dear Pat signed my tshirt after a concert in istanbul. I am still going with you.
Have been listening to this non stop on iTunes. Unmistakable melodic PMG vibe with all new personnel
I just returned from seeing him with Side Eye. These recordings don't do justice to what I just witnessed.
How can so much pure joy come from a single person? Hearing Pat back in an ensemble setting literally brought me to tears. As usual, it just makes me want to head back into the woodshed and nail the door shut until I can write and play like this.
Also, what I like about this song is that it has so many creative sound environments. Each minute of the song is like walking through a maze of rooms with different decorative arrangements. You almost get lost in the journey.
Well said.
It is a great day when I get me some New Pat Metheny! Now I can spend the rest of the day…revisiting all my old PMG favorites
Ditto. What a great surprise to come home to after a long road trip! Sorry neighbors!
Yesterday I was at the Warsaw Side eye Tour Concert. Amazing. Fantastic. Just great !! Love Pat since 2001 and Imaginary Day CD. Still want more.
I loved his Group era most of all. And this sounds like something that would be played in a Group set, so that's good!
I think this is Pat's first release since the passing of Lyle Mays.
To me, the best Metheny works are always the ones where Lyle's influence was very strong.
'From This Place' came out just after dear Lyle's passing...Linda Oh, Gwilym Simcock, and Antonio Sanchez taking it places with Pat on that release...
I was kind of afraid I wouldn’t hear synths again without LM.
What a solid sound of a powerful band.
Beautiful. Can’t wait to see this performed live in London
Pat has stated, "I'm not really good with song titles. I could call it My Dog Spot." Well, this one is undeniably compelling and thought-provoking, Pat. And, the track sounds good!
I thank my older brother all the time for introducing me to Pat Metheny with Offramp when I was 14 years old.
Ohh! I am in love again! And this is live. Wonderful engineering. Pat continues to leave me speechless and in raptures.
So happy to see this! It broke my heart when we lost Lyle Mays last year. I’m sure it broke Metheny’s as well. I saw them in Clearwater in 87, and will see them again in Clearwater next February! I cannot wait! The best jazz band ever.
And I always remember the story of Jaco's funeral from Bill Milkowski's book - it's said that Pat stayed at the graveside for a long time after everybody else had left.
It's time for Pat to tour in Canada again.
Oggi ho ricevuto il biglietto per il concerto a Luglio al Lucca Summer festival... meraviglioso regalo non vedo l'ora
I can’t stop listening to this! Pat is always evolving yet completely himself. Brilliant and wonderful. Can’t wait to hear the whole album.
I can't either. I've not been this excited about new music and I can't say when. Not saying I don't get a bump most days from listening to something new. But this is kinetic.
UberJam-Sam! ITS OK! THE REST OF US ARE SO EXCITED, A TRUE GENUIS, HIS MUSICS ALWAYS JUST ‘ SOARS ABOVE INTO THE CLOUDS, AND INTO OUR MINDS’! WITH SO MUCH TERRIBLE ON THE PLANET NOW, WE NEED SO MUCH PAT’S MUSIC’ ! SO I HOPE YOU SO COME TO LIKE IT! MERCI BEAUCOUP! AU REVOIR!
The atmospheric mix on this is great, Pat’s chart is great, solos are great, but there are always the inevitable blank spaces within the melody and song construction that only Pat and Lyle together could make whole, could make every second of every song feel essential and perfect.
Damm I thought I was the only one that felt that way
you are my hero
The G.o.a.t is Pat Metheny!!!!!!!!!
Absolute magic! Can't wait for this to come out.
I caught Pat's show in Lincoln, NE on Monday night. My dumb luck found me in a city with very few jazz afficianados. Translate: Lucky me. Front row seats. Pat and the guys were like they were in my living room. A magical two hours. He played a lot of his catalogue, albeit updated, different, with new players.
Thanks Pat Metheny (Group) one of my favourite bands of all time and also Steely Dan amazing stuff !

You left out Joni Mitchell! Those are mine but everyone has their own tastes. 😉
