  • This interpretation of the ‘Te Deum Laudamus’, chanted by an unidentified Spanish choir, is on youtube at:
    • Video
    It was uploaded by ‘Canto Gregoriano’ a Spanish language channel currently consisting of more then 20 slideshows, each one dealing with some aspect of Catholic tradition.
    The notes include the full text of the ‘Te Deum’ in Latin together with a translation
    into Spanish as well as an extensive commentary which includes the following remarkable sentence:
    “Por tanto, su origen se remonta probablemente a la primera mitad del siglo IV. En su forma actual se encuentra por primera vez en el "Antiphonarium Benchorense" de Bangor (Irlanda del Norte), que se debe fechar alrededor del año 690. Desde el siglo IX se conocen también diversas traducciones…”
    “Nevertheless, its origin probably goes back to the first half of the 4th century. It is found in its modern form for the first time in the “Antiphonarium Benchorense” from Bangor Northern Ireland) which should be dated to around the year 690. Since the IXth century various other translations have also become known.”

    Te Deum laudamus:
    te Dominum confitemur.
    Te aeternum patrem,
    omnis terra veneratur.
    Tibi omnes angeli,
    tibi caeli et universae potestates:
    tibi cherubim et seraphim,
    incessabili voce proclamant:
    "Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus
    Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
    Pleni sunt caeli et terra
    majestatis gloriae tuae."
    Te gloriosus Apostolorum chorus,
    te prophetarum laudabilis numerus,
    te martyrum candidatus laudat exercitus.
    Te per orbem terrarum
    sancta confitetur Ecclesia,
    Patrem immensae maiestatis;
    venerandum tuum verum et unicum Filium;
    Sanctum quoque Paraclitum Spiritum.
    Tu rex gloriae, Christe.
    Tu Patris sempiternus es Filius.
    Tu, ad liberandum suscepturus hominem, non horruisti Virginis uterum.
    Tu, devicto mortis aculeo,aperuisti credentibus regna caelorum.
    Tu ad dexteram Dei sedes,in gloria Patris.
    Iudex crederis esse venturus.
    Te ergo quaesumus, tuis famulis subveni, quos pretioso sanguine redemisti. Aeterna faccum sanctis tuis in gloria numerari.
    Salvum fac populum tuum, Domine,
    et benedic hereditati tuae.
    Et rege eos,
    et extolle illos usque in aeternum.
    Per singulos dies benedicimus te;
    et laudamus nomen tuum in saeculum,
    et in saeculum saeculi.
    Dignare, Domine, die isto
    sine peccato nos custodire.
    Miserere nostri, Domine,
    miserere nostri.
    Fiat misericordia tua, Domine, super nos,
    quem ad modum speravimus in te.
    In te, Domine, speravi:
    non confundar in aeternum.

      Not Fontgombault, but the Abbey of Ss. Maurice & Maur, Clervaux, Luxembourg. It is, though, part of the Solesmes Congregation, and founded in 1890. The recording is from 1959; I'm delighted to have the original LP, but is also available on CD.
