As someone shopping for a used car in this class right now, this video is EXTREMELY helpful. There's so much noise in youtube reviews and forget about trying to figure out the nuances from the manufacturer. Thank you for making this!
I'm definitely interested in seeing more of these kind of videos. I think they will be useful and definitely pertinent to someone who is interested in purchasing and wants a quick reference. Keep it up Dave. A big fan all the way from Dubai.
Very well done; a nice change of pace from your other videos. It saves people the trouble of having to click back and forth on other car sites. Other possibilities: Subcompact SUVS (Renegade/HR-V/Trax/CX-3) and Compact sedans (Civic/Corolla/Cruze/Elantra/Focus).
this is the best report I have seen, no crappy music or drawn out driving video, and the facts that I am always seeking when comparing vehicles---thank you
Dave keep these coming! These are the types of lengthy spreadsheets that I put together before a vehicle purchase. You may want to include transmission type (I'm not a fan of CVT's), and power to weight ratio.
love this concept. I like how you put lowest trim level for each and highest trim level. would love to see comparison of similarly equipped trucks, sedans, and compacts. maybe compare all 4 or 5 cars in same class in one video. Keep up the great work! !
Great idea to compare these vehicles. Love your idea of credits at the end of your videos. It gives us subscribers a better perspective on how much work goes into your car reviews. Keep it up with your honest and forthright opinions of all your vehicle reviews. You have a solid fan support here.
As CClark mentioned below, there's beauty in simplicity. I like the new whiteboard comparison format you used to compare several different "selling points" of each of these CUVs. Very informative and great information for anybody who might be in the market for one of these vehicles, but needs more information. Great job Dave!
I would say this is simple but best! Keep on doing this Dave! I like your style of putting the difference on numbers unlike the very common, biased and opinionated reviews. :)
This is a great comparative review Dave. I bought the 2017 CR-V EX-L and love the way it drives. There's tons of cargo room, great for passengers, and just overall super comfortable which for someone that spends anywhere from 2-6 hours a day driving is of paramount importance. Thanks for all your great research-backed reviews.
Honda Accord vs Kia Optima, Nissan Armada vs Toyota Seqouia, Ford Expedition vs GM suburban/Yukon both long wheel base, Honda Civic vs Toyota Corolla the list is endless! Great idea for bringing up this new category of videos for your channel!!👍🏼👍🏼
GREAT idea, Dave, and thanks for sharing! I would like to see you compare the Accord with other sedans. And I have already heard complaints about the 2018 Accord being downsized to a Civic platform for Honda to save money.
They're not going to give the accord less interior space or make it smaller. If they did this, there wouldn't be much of a difference between the civic & accord.
Great video. I think this is a brilliant way to compare 2 vehicles in a very short time. Small suggestion would be to replace the data point where there is no difference with another data point where there is a difference. If there is no difference then that data point is practically of no use when trying to make a decision on which car to buy. Keep up the good work...
Great concept, Dave! How about the Honda HRV vs. the Jeep Renegade, or even the Ford Edge vs. the Nissan Murano! Keep up the great work, Dave! 😉 -DriveAndBeDriven "The Quest To Record The Best!"
I like the idea, would love to see it refined. Since you compare the lengths, the widths would be nice as well. As that is usually a direct correlation to interior room. Also you mentioned the fuel tank size, which is great. But I would also mention what the expected range would be. In this video you mention the possible convenience of the larger tank with the Rav 4 and not having to fill up as often, yet taking the combined ratings into account they would get within a couple of miles of each other per tank. In this case the Honda actually edges out a couple more miles of range, even with the smaller tank.
Nice Dave. Comparing stock configurations and options would be interesting. For example CRV offers 19" wheels and heated steering wheel. So many things to take into account.
You forgot to mention the 1.5 turbo..which most of the people will buy. They sell more ex trimmed crvs (which comes with the turbo) than any other trim.
Great idea Dave, i like your comparing the cars by the numbers. Very interested in the Subaru outback wagon, and the Volkswagon wagon comparison? Keep it up Thanks !!
Dave: An excellent comparison....good on you Dave. One item with respect to ground clearance, which the CR-V was better, is important. This means that the CR-V can go through deep snow better. And.needless to say if I was living in the north east states I would choose the CR-V. However, in the north east this is one of the reasons people chose Subaru. Another important point is horse power and torque and here Dave slipped up by not quoting the RPM numbers. Now I must say that back in '13 we bought the Ford Escape which I don't regret. The reason was that an engine.upgrade was available.which isn't there with the CR-V or'RAV 4. I like that 2.0L Eco Boost that puts out 240 hp. The current '17 Escape is 245hp @5500 rpm with 275 lb/ft torque 3000. So if you want a vehicle that will move you fast on the freeway with out a lot of effort get a Ford Escape with that 2.0l under the hood.
Hi Dave, Highly informative video. In the future, Please do the same for the every segment for compact cars, mid size cars, full size cars, CUV, Mid Size Cross over, Full Size Cross over and also for the luxury segments too. Thanks.
The mpg you listed for the crv, especially the highway, is for the 1.5L but yet didn’t mention it in the comparo.... also, how about listing acceleration times on your board....
When we were Crossover shopping recently, we found the comparison on honda.com between the Honda CR-V and the HR-V to be confusing. I will say that your video reviews HELPED A LOT. Any chance you could do a head-to-head review between the 2017 CR-V and the 2017 HR-V? THANK YOU.
How about comparing Mazda CX5 Vs Santa Fe Sport Vs Honda CRV Vs Toyota RAV4 with the comparison not only being the the board parameters that you showed but also including dashboard and safety features!
Great video Dave! Would love to see some comparisons for the subcompact SUVs since they are newer and offer diff features, like the Honda HRV vs. Mazda CX3. Also, since you start with it in your videos, how abt adding color options to your data sets? Thank you: )
I am thinking about getting the CRV just wondering how will it hold up as far as maintenance and reliability . Are there any problems that are related to this vehicle.
You may add the following: (1) Transmission types offered (CVT/MT/AT) (2) 0-60 from a single source (eg. car and driver) (3) Gross Weight (4) Android Auto/Apple CarPlay availability
Hi Dave ! Can you please test the new CRV on snow . There's no video on UA-cam addressing how the CRV 2017 rides on snow and it's AWD performance. Thank you !
Prado 737 - I have a 15 Pathfinder lease (non hybrid) and I wouldn't recommend it - major CVT leak and other issues. Just wanted to share my personal experience, I am not an expert! thanks :)
the looks and features are very important for most buyers but the mechanics are of equal if not greater importance. Durability and mechanical weaknesses, especially transmissions, should be mentioned if possible. I recognize that builders might object..
I bought the RAV4 XLE and love it. I for one (just personal preference) do not like turbo engines. Why you ask? A 1.5LITER engine is a small engine for a vehicle the size of the CR-V. They get power from the turbo. When that turbo breaks and no longer under warranty go to your nearest bank and get a loan. A RAV4 with a 2.5 liter , if you change the oil regularly as required with the best oil and don't abuse the vehicle that 2.5 liter should last at least 200,000 miles. Their are Toyota engnes (and Honda non turbo engines still running fine after 200,000 miles. I bet no turbo will last that long.
Dave i like your reviews....but pls try to point out the powertrain/transmission....i think the honda has cvt-which i dont think its that reliable compared to a regular transmission. That is a deal breaker 4 me....no Crap/Vax Transmission.
Hi Dave, great comparison as always. I have a question. Have you heard anything from Mazda as to when the 2017 CX5 Diesel will arrive here in the US? Thanks
I can only think of one thing to add (but maybe it's a bad idea?), is the past awards. Possibly you could list the awards each car has won (for the current year or the past), along with consumer happiness with the vehicle. Maybe mention that the CR-V has been the best selling SUV in America for 10 years, while the RAV4 has had other awards.
please do the same for 2017 Honda Pilot vs 2017 Toyota Highlander & 2017/2018 Honda Odyssey vs 2017 Toyota Sienna. Thank you in advance! by the way...very informative vid!
Thanks! I recently had my 2nd child in Sept 2016 and I'll be in the market soon for any of the 4 cars that I listed. Could you also list spare tire options? Very important for road trips and minimal off-road (not advanced level off roading...just rookie for camping). Thanks!
hey Dave I'm thinking about the Honda Civic vs .....just about any of its competitors .......also realized that u didn't talk about the CR-V's optional engine
The Honda has a turbo, which is a problem if you want to put lots of miles on it. The Honda also has a CVT trans. The CVT trans was the killer for me. Probably getting a RAV4.
True car actually shows the TRUTH. The avg ACTUAL paid price is 25k Toyota and 30K Honda. Honda gives fake low msrp prices and then marks them up with "additional dealer profit" stickers at the dealers! Toyota always has generous incentives. This supposedly cheaper Honda actually costs 5 THOUSAND dollars more. Don't be fooled.
I would like to see a comparison of eight passenger vans. Odyssey and Pacifica. I'm in the market for a new one. I need the use of all eight seats. Kids ages 11 down to three. One in no booster, one booster, three harnessed and one rear facing. We travel often, through the states, and also through Canada. I have an odyssey right now, but it needs to be replaced.
Diggin' this format Dave. White board and numbers. Beauty in simplicity. Don't stop!

I very much like this format with the whiteboard, Dave - clear, plain and simple.
Dave keep these coming! These are the types of lengthy spreadsheets that I put together before a vehicle purchase. You may want to include transmission type (I'm not a fan of CVT's), and power to weight ratio.
Shawn Bremer thank you for the feedback Shawn and please stay tuned more is to come
love this concept. I like how you put lowest trim level for each and highest trim level. would love to see comparison of similarly equipped trucks, sedans, and compacts. maybe compare all 4 or 5 cars in same class in one video. Keep up the great work! !
Terry Owens i'm going to skip trim levels moving forward and add other vital data points instead.
Great idea to compare these vehicles. Love your idea of credits at the end of your videos. It gives us subscribers a better perspective on how much work goes into your car reviews. Keep it up with your honest and forthright opinions of all your vehicle reviews. You have a solid fan support here.

turbo 1.5 ex-touring has 190hr and 179 torque.
Great video, Dave! I like seeing just the numbers compared. Would like to see more.
I would say this is simple but best! Keep on doing this Dave! I like your style of putting the difference on numbers unlike the very common, biased and opinionated reviews. :)

Dave this is very smart decision for a car reviewer, i like the fact you were able to write it on the board for people to see. Thank you so much...
Great video Dave! Please continue with more of these comparison videos.
GREAT idea, Dave, and thanks for sharing! I would like to see you compare the Accord with other sedans. And I have already heard complaints about the 2018 Accord being downsized to a Civic platform for Honda to save money.
This new Cr-vs are based on Civic platforms, I dont have test driven new Cr-v but civic are very fun cars.
Haris Mak m
Doug Celeste No if you look at the spy shots, they show the Accord with a sight longer wheelbase.
They're not going to give the accord less interior space or make it smaller. If they did this, there wouldn't be much of a difference between the civic & accord.
Thx Dave! this makes me even more happy cuz I'm picking up my new 2017 CRV (black pearl) next Tuesday and I'm so glad I chose this over others!!
Great video. I think this is a brilliant way to compare 2 vehicles in a very short time. Very smart program. Keep this going. Big thumbs up.
Well done vid and a nice departure. It reminded me a bit of Engineering Explained in format, good info and well presented.
REALLY like this video! Do more if you can!!!
Dave, I love this concept of comparison. Maybe adding the gross vehicle weight would be another interesting number.
sipock97 I appreciate the feedback, and believe me, I'm taking notes on everyone's comments :-)
You forgot to mention the 1.5 turbo..which most of the people will buy. They sell more ex trimmed crvs (which comes with the turbo) than any other trim.
Totally agree. Dave should have mentioned the 1.5 turbo 190 hp
Mister X I totally agree too.
Fadic 4 I will be doing some CRV comparisons in the near future and I promise not to forget the turbo.
rav4 also has the hybrid power train and drivetrain available. how about driver assistance technology?
Great idea Dave, i like your comparing the cars by the numbers. Very interested in the Subaru outback wagon, and the Volkswagon wagon comparison? Keep it up Thanks !!
Thanks Dave, so easy to understand. It's the exact way (plus length & width)I compare vehicles!
Dave: An excellent comparison....good on you Dave. One item with respect to ground clearance, which the CR-V was better, is important. This means that the CR-V can go through deep snow better. Hi Dave,
Highly informative video.
Great idea on the review, keep doing these and you'll be a review pioneer :)
Great video Dave, keep up the good work. I was wondering when you would get the 2017 CR-V a review.
Great idea. You should definetly do more of these!! Honda looks like a better deal.
Is it possible that the Chevy Malbu becomes a volt like vehicle with more room?
good comparison, could even add a few more. maybe follow up with quick visual of the actual vehicle details as well
Good comparison, but fuel tank capacity is almost negated by higher MPG on the CRV. Means only about 20miles different per tank.
Liked this comparisons.
Very informative comparison. Thanks Professor Dave! :)
Great video, Dave.
When we were Crossover shopping recently, we found the comparison on honda.com between the Honda CR-V and the HR-V to be confusing. I will say that your video reviews HELPED A LOT. Any chance you could do a head-to-head review between the 2017 CR-V and the 2017 HR-V? THANK YOU.
I would like to see a mashup between 2017 Toyota Camry SE and 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE. Ex: 0-60 tests, rear leg room, road noise, overall reviews.
Agree with all the positive comments. I would like to see a MB GLC vs Jag F-Pace difference if you could squeeze it in. Thx keep up the great work.
Well done Dave!
Nice video! Next time compare also transmissions!
CRV clearly got the Rav 4 trounced...good comparison
Great video Dave. Can you do a comparison for the Subaru Crosstrek / Honda HRV / Mazda CX3 / VW Tiguan?
Thanks!

Honda has no Hybrid option.
Include transmission type in the powertrain. Honda's CVT is a deal breaker for many.
I am thinking about getting the CRV just wondering how will it hold up as far as maintenance and reliability . Are there any problems that are related to this vehicle.
Which of the two has been the more reliable?
You may add the following:

(3) Gross Weight
(4) Android Auto/Apple CarPlay availability

Hi sir,i really like your new style it's very helpful and straight forward. Can you compare pilot vs highlander, thank you.
the looks and features are very important for most buyers but the mechanics are of equal if not greater importance. Durability and mechanical weaknesses, especially transmissions, should be mentioned if possible. I recognize that builders might object..
How about the subaru forester 2.0 turbo XT . very few information on the turbo
I bought the RAV4 XLE and love it. I for one (just personal preference) do not like turbo engines. Why you ask? A 1.5LITER engine is a small engine for a vehicle the size of the CR-V. Nice comparison Dave. Would have liked to see 0-60 times and 60-0 ft.
Givin this comparison im interested to see Honda CRV vs. Nissan Rogue...
What about Rav4 hybrid trim level? That has 194 hp and 206 pound feet of torque
Hi Dave, great comparison as always. I have a question. Have you heard anything from Mazda as to when the 2017 CX5 Diesel will arrive here in the US? Thanks
Which of them is more reliable?

Maybe mention that the CR-V has been the best selling SUV in America for 10 years, while the RAV4 has had other awards.
Justin David he did mention that the CRV has been the best seller for nearly 20 years.
My bad, sorry I didn't notice!
how about a Mazda 6 and a Honda Accord/Toyota Camry? I'm torn between the three
I love the comparison videos ❤️
This is great. Could you also add width of the vehicle. I know they're expensive, could you compare the Jag F Pace and Land Rover Discovery 2017?
Toyota has advance collision system lane change assist ,standard in rav4. Honda does not, safety features in rav4 r way better than honda crv
Awesome comparison! Can you do Subaru Forester with Honda CR-V?
2.4l or1.5l turbo??
please do the same for 2017 Honda Pilot vs 2017 Toyota Highlander & 2017/2018 Honda Odyssey vs 2017 Toyota Sienna. Thank you in advance! by the way...very informative vid!
Love it! I'm adding those to my list!!!!
Thanks! I recently had my 2nd child in Sept 2016 and I'll be in the market soon for any of the 4 cars that I listed. Could you also list spare tire options? Very important for road trips and minimal off-road (not advanced level off roading...just rookie for camping). Thanks!
Oh...and also...feel free to add any other cars to your comparison. I shouldn't just limit my options to what I listed. :)
simply love the CRV 2017 !!!
That's fantastic to do something like this, could you do Subaru Outback vs Jeep Cherokee?
This is genius! I think CRV will be the bench mark. Would love to see it against the 2018 Mazda CX5 and the 2018 VW Tiguan once those hit the market.
hey Dave I'm thinking about the Honda Civic vs .....just about any of its competitors .......also realized that u didn't talk about the CR-V's optional engine
i want you to compare 2017 ford escape / 2017 gnc terrain
like the concept. thanks for asking
How can we compare these 2 to the Subaru Forester?
Great idea... comparing three would be even MORE interesting... thank you for the suggestion.
I find its a a little bias in comparison. Why he miss who faster ?
why not include the hybrid for the rav4
The Honda has a turbo, which is a problem if you want to put lots of miles on it. The Honda also has a CVT trans. The CVT trans was the killer for me. Probably getting a RAV4.
I would love to see the 2017 Honda CRV EX-L or Touring vs 2017 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited or 2.5i Touring . All models are 4 cylinders to be fair.
How about the hybrid rav4 comparison ?
Do more of these comparisons.
please, can you do with Honda HR-V vs 2017 Toyota Rav4.
True car actually shows the TRUTH. The avg ACTUAL paid price is 25k Toyota and 30K Honda. Honda gives fake low msrp prices and then marks them up with "additional dealer profit" stickers at the dealers! Toyota always has generous incentives. Legit Honda works the hardest in developing their cars 👌
please compare with new VW Tiguan2017 and Mazda CX5 as well
Great video!
Crv has just been updated, RAV4 is a facelifted older model, you would expect such a result. Both manufacturers make good vehicles.
