Say what u want but Season 22 is one of the best in the show. Colourful, vibrant, action-packed. Also nice having a smaller TARDIS team and longer episodes.
got to admit, I was about 15 or so when this was shown and I watched the A-Team whilst video-recording Dr Who, so I'm slightly to blame for the low viewing figures.
Doctor Who was having a hard time during Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy's tenure because the ratings were sinking and the higher ups from the BBC at the time only had interest in producing soap dramas and reality TV shows and this is how it led into the series being axed for 16 years.
The problem with Twin D is that it was broadcast after Caves - a massive high/dark/serious story. I often wonder if it would of done better if it opened the next season.
Their realization may have been questionable, no worse so than the leaders of the city in "Colony in Space", but it's nice to have a non-humanoid species in the show again via the Bandrils... Gott wonder how Pip and Jane's stories increased viewers between episodes - at least for those who don't like their style, I adore it. Revelation shows thst the TARDIS won't always materialize next to the main entrance so the duo's jaunt only added to the story. Alexei Sayle does much with the role especially in pt 2. Didn't know Eric transitioned pt 13 to screen. Good job. 👍 his pt 14, however, had the worst possible ending.. "Catharsis of spurious morality" is a terrific line. Maybe misapplied, since explosions are usually physical boom-booms and not toddler tantrums, but it's a great one nonetheless. 😁 Rewatching these always has bits of detail missed. Much appreciating your research, as always thanks! ☺
Colin baker is my 12 favourite doctor who and I love his era series 22 is my favourite series of his era and series 23 is my second favourite series of his era
I feel like the 6th doctor did not get his chance to step into the spotlight as his own. Colin seems like a great actor and if he didn't get the part as the doctor he honestly could have made a very menacing Master.
Loved watching this again in compilation form. Grade, at the time simply didn’t like Doctor Who. If he’d cared it was tired or violent or about declining ratings, the response ought to have been a new producer, script editor, more money for the show and a change of schedule. When’s Season 24 ready? Looking forward to it.
Wild how the Two Doctors (which brought back arguably the second most popular doctor of the classic series) had the lowest viewing figures in all of season 22. It's a particular favorite of mine, too, which is a shame. I've rewatched it several times and it's one of the handful of classic stories I own on DVD. Troughton and Baker had strong interplay, the villains were wonderful and chewed the scenery well, and it never once (IMO) feels like the two-hour runtime is padded with filler.
The Twin Dilemma wasn't an extra story tacked on at the end of Season 21, Davison actually left one story short of a full final season with Androzani & Twin Dilemma occupied the next 4 episodes
It is easy to criticise the C Baker era as being tasteless, but it was the 80s. The problem with the Colin Baker era was science fiction writing needed to evolve at this point and simply wasn’t doing so. Shows like the A Team had a cast with very strong characterisation, every character was well defined and lovable as a result. In Doctor Who typically the supporting cast had next to no characterisation at all, they were merely there to advance or foil the emotionless objectives of group A or Villian B. It desperately needed to break this sci fi trope, like Star Trek TNG was begining to do in 1987. and it wasn’t until the RTD era really that it managed to do that. Where the companion had a family, and a life, people who had motivations based upon their established personalities so you would know how they would react in different situations. Sarah Jane had a little bit of this, which is why she was so loved. Dr Who lost this in the 80s. you have to appeal to wider family audiences instead of just nerds.
I was 11 in 1984 and afraid for me it was always Blockbusters and the A'Team on ITV (TVS), never Doctor Who....I thought the special effects of the latter were cheap. Only now do I appreciate it for what it was. I do prefer the Tom Baker years though...
TOATL is one of my fav seasons however, even as a child and now as an adult i really dislike the final two episodes (The Ultimate Foe). As for Peri living I believed the Doctor was lied to by the Time Lords and in fact she was dead lol
A long time ago (and my memory isn't great at the best of times) but I'm pretty sure I watched the new incarnation (after watching Tom Baker and Peter Davison on and off when the adults of the house would let us watch!) in the regeneration phase and I'm sure I remember thinking 'I don't like this Doctor'. Would've been around 12 at the time....sadly I think Colin Baker was really given the short straw, with his script, production values, and all the other politics happening behind the scenes. Children are less discerning than adults and if they're put off, it takes a lot to win them over again.
I feel extra sad that Colin wanted to pass Tom's seven year run. He really wasn't treated fairly.
The Colin Baker era is my favorite era of Doctor Who history!
I grew up with the 6th Doctor on tv lol Defo my fav
“Carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice” the final televised line of my personal favorite doctor, colin baker.
Truly inspiring words to live by

History is repeating with the show now.

Damn you.
same here.
If you’d taped ITV and watched the doctor, you could fast forward the ads.
I tuned in on every single Collin baker adventure

Great series loved Colin as the 6th Dr shame his stories didn't let us get to know him more
That must have been a rather tense conversation when the Master called into the kids show to have a word with Doctor Who!
Amazing work man looking forward to watching more of your channel!

I always liked Peri very much.

Mark of the Rani is my favorite 6th doctor story!!!👍
great video
Thanks Thomas!
@@AdamMartyn when do you think we'll get another Blu ray collection
In the 'Twin Dilemma', Peri says, "People don't just change!" To which the Doctor replies, "I'm not just 'people', Peri! I'm me!!"

The Doctor was actually about to take her to Blackpool in the next story, The Nightmare Fair, a part of the lost season of Doctor Who.

Gonna say it - I like “the Twin Dilemma.” 🙂
In my personal opinion JNT should have left when Peter Davison left
Great video Adam I actually think Colin Baker wasn’t a bad Doctor in my opinon
Glad to hear it pal! I think he's a wonderful Doctor!
@@AdamMartyn No problem
Wholly underrated 😞
@@ShamrockParticle I know but in my opinon Colin Baker is an awesome Doctor from dr who
Cannot wait for the 7th doctor years seasons 25 and 26 had some brilliant episodes but it was too late to save the series
Why are the Sontarans as tall as the Doctor in the Two Doctors?
Why aren't you mentioning that you can stream these on britbox
