Funny, I was tutting and wincing over some of the figures (50 years on!) I must admit a that as a child I too was watching Land on the Giant!!! I learnt!!!
Troughton is my favorite doctor and it's such a shame so much of his time as the doctor was junked 😔☹ i think he was also hampered with so many of his stories being 5+ episodes long. Watching the stories as a whole these days is far easier than back in the 1960's with one episode a week where a filler episode would have lost some viewers interest 🤕

This was incredibly shocking! Those viewing figures for Season 6 were way too low! I NOW HATE THAT GIANT SHOW!!! Dunno why the Krotons of all stories got so many views! At least we can both agree on the Mind Robber!
I never understood why they got rid of Ben and Polly when the stories got higher ratings. I didn't like the Troughton stories after they left. I just don't think I liked the companions and as great as Jamie was I think he stayed on too long. Ben and Polly should have stayed until at least the Ice Warrior. The dynamic between the second Doctor, Ben, Polly, and Jamie was magical. The Yeti was cool even though you never saw them again. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think one of the biggest breaks British TV (specifically science fiction and historical fiction) had was keeping black and white for so long. As much as I enjoy the vivid colors of Star Trek TOS, the Adventures of Superman, Batman and so many Westerns, I believe that most of our (US) sci fi shows would've continued for at least an additional season or two. Something about B&W not only is more forgiving (just check out Twilight Zone & Outer Limits) but sets an atmosphere that color TV lacks. And by the 70s here TV despite being in color began to look drab and grim (Superfriends and the like aside), but without gaining much for the loss of vividness, so it seemed not worth the loss
the reason for low ratings figures for season 6 is that female started to watch land of the giants because the lead female actors and what they wore and how they inter acted with the male leads.
Patrick Troughton is my four favourite doctor who and series 6 is my favourite series of his era as the second Doctor and series 5 is my second favourite series of Patrick Troughton era as the second Doctor and I really like series four the and it is my second favourite story of series 4 and I love Patrick Troughton is the second Doctor and the facelose ones is my second favourite Patrick Troughton story from series four and the power of the daleks is my favourite Patrick Troughton doctor story from series 4 and I love the macro terror it is my third favourite Patrick Troughton doctor who story and the highlanders is my four favourite story of series of classic Dr who
