Your work is really quite brilliant and I am glad that a young person is so motivated to produce these excellent Dr Who assessments! Superb historical research!
You are a very generous reviewer😊. That’s nice to see. I cannot share your view of DatB but it’s gratifying to observe someone who exemplifies the phrase “horses for courses”.
50:49 That cliffhanger with the Dalek hovering up the stairs towards the seventh doctor could’ve sent people with faces of shock and terror back in 1988.
Sylvester mcocoy is my seventh favourite doctor who and series 25 is my favourite series of his era series 26 is my second favourite doctor who series of his era and series 24 is my third favourite series of his era
I enjoy your breakdown of the viewing figures. It's interesting how the numbers contrast with current broadcast figures. I think Flux chapter 1, has 5.79 million viewers (7 days consolidated), and that means it's ranked in the Top 10 for the broadcast night and the 7-day consolidated. I'll be curious how it goes down in the broader media. But suspect there will be deliberate mis-interpretation of the bare figures, and a denial of the struggling format of Broadcast TV overall. There's also the highest expectations of the audience for effects, and the higher costs for shooting for Full HD, and the inevitable 4K upscale. Flux can't get away with the studio bound experience of vintage Who.
I was one of the ones that dipped out when Colin Baker strangled Peri, but I came back for McCoy's debut, and was hooked again. In subsequent viewings, I'm really amazed how this era combined the classic feel while still being refreshing, goofily comical yet incredibly dark, child-friendly yet very intelligent. I had a huge crush on Sophie too. And the added mystery of the Cartmel Masterplan really makes the show's cancellation after "Survival" one of the great tragedies of television.
Thank you of course for this Adam-very well it is done too. The trouble with Doctor Who really I guess as we know at that time in the 1980s was what was going on at the BBC really at the time too somehow. When Colin Baker was ousted in favour of Sylvester McCoy the storylines were I guess somewhat ropey really but that was all part of the trouble alas somehow then.
@@benmiller3252 I know right I know Colin Bakers first Doctor Who Story was the twin dilemma to be honest it’s not a terrible doctor who Story in my opinion
Hey Adam, first off THANK YOU so much for this whole series of videos. I have spent the last 2-3 months watching from 1st Dr - 7th Dr & have thurally enjoyed the adventure. My girlfriend even started to comment when I started watching some of your videos, saying 'you're watching that Adam view figure guy again aren't you' lol. Also it has to be said the professionalism behind these videos is second to none. I've been creating dr who content for about 13 years now & have not even come close to your quality. Furthermore I will be shouting you out in a video soon if that's ok? Also can I send a one off patreon payment for all your hard work? Not sure if I can... Thanks again & I eagerly await the wilderness years & onwards of the niche world of doctor who viewing figures ;) Raven Jones. P.s the fact that survival is based around cats - I always thought as a kid (I was born in 1988 & started watching who around 1993) that this was a direct attack against the coronation street cat from their intro lol :D

If you'd like to make a one off donation, you're welcome to do so on my Ko-fi page, the link is below! ko-fi.com/adammartynamtv Hopefully the viewing figures series will return very soon! Doctor Who Was Facing The Dark Times During The Colin Baker And The Sylvester McCoy Era Of The Series. The Television Networks At The Time Became Used To Producing Soap Dramas And Reality TV shows. That's How Doctor Who Was Taken Off Our Screens For 16 Years. Their Were Cut Short.
If the McCoy era didn’t air at 7:35pm against Coronation Street and aired at a time when kids and their families would be watching, then the viewing figures could’ve increased.

GHOSTLIGHT and WEB OF FEAR are my two favorite Who episodes of all time… Patrick Troughton and Sylvester McCoy my two favorite doctors (but that’s by a variation of degree). In a way, GHOSTLIGHT reminds me a lot of the cinematic classic THE BIG SLEEP in that it has a seemingly murky plot that gets more fluid… and brilliant… with each viewing. I hold CURSE OF FENRIC in near equal regard. It’s ironic that two of my favorite Who adventures received the worst ratings. TIME heals all wounds, lol.
It's possible! Michael Grade in retrospect has said if he wanted Doctor Who to die off then pitting it against Corrie would have been his decision. If only we all could have been flies on the wall back at the BBC during these meetings of the late 80s!
Jodie is going to be on The Last Leg tonight (10pm, Channel 4)! And considering that disability is a main talking point on that show, they might mention the disabled actor in The Halloween Apocalypse.
Why anyone would want to watch the depression inducing Coronation Street over Doctor Who is beyond me ,I had kind of grown out of Doctor Who by this time and I was in the pubs ,but to stay in and watch Corrie ,sad as F
Dear AMTV I would like to notify you of a correction. The Sun newspaper also made a rubbish dish rag as well. I also heard if you used it as loo paper it would turn your bum rasist, but I don't know how true that is. Outstanding body of work old boy.
the commentary doesn’t exactly recognise that poor scripts, pantomime acting and terrible production values were the reason the series failed at this time in its history. Shame Chibnall went through the same cycle with poor scripts … although at least the acting and production values were better
Really this period reminds me alot of the Chris Chibnall era where you had a show runner without any good ideas a series that looked cheap and episode numbers cut right down, really the major difference would be that Sylvester McCoy at least was a unique presence the Whitaker period has been painful as how ever good the visiting actors are the weak performance of the hyper active lead as well as Making her have no refinement or even acting like a woman like an anti matter Mary Tamms Romana, there's stories in the McCoy period I like like Paradise Towers Delta and the Bannermen Greatest Show in the Galaxy and the ghost light. Really I think the most damaging effect on Dr Who was JNT who's lack of writing skills was a detriment as well as agressive moves like going to war with the BBC and ignoring criticism (much like Chibnall). Really the biggest let downs of the 7th doctor was the Cartmel Master Plan and Lungbarrow never being fully achieved.

God Bless Sylvester McCoy. A vastly underappreciated doctor in his time.
Couldn't agree more Robin! 👏
Brilliant Adam. This must have taken ages to pull together. Enjoyed immensely and watched it twice as there was so much information packed in.!
Thank you Chris! It's been quite a project on the whole but a real labour of love too 😊
Sylvester McCoy is my all time FAV Doctor.
After Tom Baker, I felt Sylvester McCoy gave the best performance. To be fair he did have a good companion and scripts :)

A good reason to explain why satellite grew in the UK and then more people moved away with streaming. The networks were their worst enemy.

Just watched galaxy 4
Loved it
'Have you ever wondered where he came from? Who he is?'
'He's the Timeless Child?'
'How did you know that?'
Will you do the viewing figures for new who as well?
Poor McCoy, Aldred, Bush, Cartmel etc
They all deserved better
They certainly did viewing figures wise!
