One of the coolest facts about Doctor Who is that it's still going because of its fans. As in, the fans who grew up with the show are now _actually_ in charge of it and even brought it back on air after cancellation. Some became writers, some became directors, and some even got to play that amazing character they always dreamed to be. And they're doing an amazing job (not all of them). I'll be there for the 100th anniversary. And I think the Doctor will still be there too.

Thanks for explaining all this, because i didn’t feel like binge watching everything, especially when the thing i’m watching Doctor Who on is acting up- (i just started watching Doctor Who because David Tennant was the tenth doctor) and JESUS THERE IS SO MANY SEASONS I JUST NOTICED THAT WHILE WRITING THIS
To be fair you cut out all the jokes... Well, the 12th doesn't come along for a while, but for a thumbnail history of Classic Who you did very well. It's really hard to cover the wilderness years and you still checked the high points. It's easy to get bogged down in all the fan productions and semi-official (but not really) movies made straight to video, the novels, audios, cartoons, etc. from when the show was off the air. The well of DW is very deep, and the wider you focus your lens it seems nearly bottomless.
The wilderness years are so bottomless in the end because of all that creativity in those years we got the show we have today! 😎 Also, that 12th doctor scene might or might not be in the next part 👀
This video was fantastic. My limits of classic Doctor Who was the TV film with Paul McGann and watching Tom Baker with my dad (a Brit who grew up in the 80s) and this broke down the rest of it so well. It’s truly a tragedy that we lost so many episodes of the first three Doctors.
"The Doctor is an alien who travels through time and space in his spaceship the Tardis." Um, actually her name is "Sexy" Lol No but seriously this video was great. It's really useful for someone like me who hasn't seen classic who
Moffat's first contribution to the show (well, outside niche short stories I guess) being a low hanging fruit comedy sketch says so much about his era it's almost actually funny, as opposed to just mildly depressing.
Tbh most of my minimal exposure to Dr Who came from that KLF song that apparently sampled the opening theme, as well as the Dean Gray mashup with Green Day's Holiday, and the whole topic of the missing episodes out of a general interest in lost media. Never even heard of it to begin with until the Matt Smith years iirc. Regardless, I still watched this in full after suddenly finding it in my feed and it was a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next part.
As a new era fan this incredible helpful. I watched the first season with william and tried to watch the whole show but is really difficult to find the episodes. the video is extremely fun, reminds me a bit to history of the entire world, i guess. Looking forward to the second part!
This was an excellent recap! Thanks! Also, it’s really great that you put in an effort to properly gender the Doctor. I really think it’s okay to refer to a single Doctor as “he” or “she” since individual Doctors, even in the modern era, use “he” or “she” depending on the Doctor as opposed to “they.”
The video was meant to be classic and new so it's only fair to use they/them for the doctor! Thank you very much for noticing and appreciating and I totally agree with you 😊
as someone who knows next to nothing abt this franchise but is morbidly interested despite my shortcomings of knowledge, this was an excellent summary!

I love the theory that first doctor's adventure on screen was in stone age of Skaro
What a great video, laughed throughout. Can’t wait for part 2
my dad walked in the room when I was watching this, chuckled twice and left the room
I like the idea that the 6th doctor lasted a really long time between ToaTL and his regeneration since we dont properly see his face, so we can have Current Old Colin Baker back for multidoctor specials
i started doctor who a few months ago with ten - because he is my friends favorite doctor, and because I really like David Tennant in other things I've seen him in - so thank you for this! It's really interesting to learn some of the history of the show I've fallen in love with over the past few months.
the doctor who to hyperpop pipeline is real...?
I haven't watched any Doctor Who in some time and this video randomly got recommended to me, nonetheless I enjoyed every second of it! Not only was the story itself interesting but your editing style kept me entertained and I let out a lot of laughs. Excited so see what you'll cover in part 2!
21:56 fun fact about “Doctor In Distress” the composer Hans Zimmer did the synthesiser parts of the song
UA-cam style editing and sound work gives me a headache, goes against everything I was trained for as a professional editor! BUT. The information and timeline and show info is fascinating. Well done, clearly research was done.
That makes me giggle... Thank you for watching!! Yes it's very jumpy/cutty I wanted to keep the attention of the viewer can only apologize for the headache 😁 Thank you very much for your kind words!
Much thanks for explaining the lost episodes! Searching around the internet for clips of fractions of those stories wouldve been too tedious
Dr who-ever you are was brilliant
this was absolutely incredible, i loved every second of it and i cannot wait for part two
side note - i'm so happy that you remained constant with referring to the time lords with gender neutral pronouns, it really makes for an immersive experience of an advanced age 🙏🙏
@@MattEngarding your tunnel vision is precisely the level of willful ignorance that would make the doctor sick, which you would know if you cared at all about the show, its otherworldly advanced age concepts and its focus on reaching beyond the boundaries of our shortcomings as a people. don't you remember when they punched a racist? no, you likely blocked it out for fear of feeling the bruise upon your own face.
edit - yes, the spineless fellow deleted their own comment, quite amusing honestly
kinda wrong though since he's a dude all throughout this era
@@redacted1462 they're a genderless entity from beyond the stars bro, you gotta think bigger
@@fops.5178yeah but the individual incarnations of the doctor are either hes or shes. No gender but still uses he/him pronouns or she/her pronouns in the case of jodie
@@redacted1462No you don't get it, we have to cram gender ideology into everything humanly possible to stick it to the gammons
as someone who doesn’t know anything about Doctor Who, this video is very informative and entertaining
I was so engrossed I didn't even realised the 28 mins were over that quickly, need a part 2
this is so well researched while being funny throughout! cant wait for part 2
Amazing regroup! And very funny! I’m a new Whovian (starting with 9) but was always curious about the Classics and this was perfect!
I love this video, I knew everything about classic who but you told it in such a fun way and I love it so much keep up the great work 👍
Thank you so so much!! 🥺
How on gods green earth does this not have millions of views!?!?!?!!???
This is insanely well made and I’ll have you know, I send this to one of my friends that was never quite keen on dipping his toes into classic who because it seemed a bit complicated to him. Well he finally agreed to watch some with me so consider your work impactful 💪💪💪
YES!!! This IS the impact I wanted thank you so so so much!!! 🥹
OMG THIS IS INCREDIBLE!! as someone who's special interest is dr. who with no access to the earlier seasons this is the best.
This is epic. It somehow tells you everything and yet not really anything all at once.
😆 Loved it.
The day the whole show is fully understood is the day the show dies fr... Thank you!!
Dude, I have no idea how long these take, But I know that one day I’ll just be scrolling through my feed, see it, and watch it there and then. Let my boss pray that I don’t find it the day before a deadline
cover girl by rupaul over pertwee's outfits KNOCKED ME OUT
He works it though doesn't he 👀👀
Excellent video, even after watching DW for my entire life, there were many fun moments of learning packed in here.
Big respect for mentioning the composers for the sound track
I want to do a bit more for the amazing composers of the 80s as well if I redo this video! Classic who music is utterly iconic and a pioneer in future electronic music! Has to be mentioned 😁
You gave me the insane idea of writing an entire essay in doctor who. Thank you
I always forgot the doctor has had a kid
Something about 7 getting gunned down the second they step foot in America is morbidly hilarious 😭
Seriously though, love the breakdown! You did a pretty stellar job - I can't wait for part 2 ^^
What an enjoyable video. Lighthearted and funny and yet a great intro to the series for anyone who hasn't seen it
What a sick summary! Laughed a lot, remembered a lot, learned even more! Great job ✨
2:53 anyone else think David kinda looks like the 10th doctor?
3:00 Thr Doctor does see his granddaughter again, with the 8th Doctor radio adventures
I'm gonna repeat, that's nice for big finish just not in the TV series!
@@louisslegall The way I look at it is he did, but maybe post Time War, he didn't. The Time War is really a brilliant contrivance to explain all the issues with continuity.
@@Launchpadcomicsif I add big finish this video would pass the one hour mark... I'll let someone else try that 😬
This was really well made! Looking forward to part 2 :)
the editing in this is phenominal, easily the best thing to just throw on in the background as im drawing and its great because i genuinley dont think i could sit through a majority of classic who
i need more ace content, the vibes were immaculate. gotta bring more baseball bat energy to the companions
also it was really interesting to see how many past companions come from all sorts of eras! makes me think about how many of the new ones are from our time/earth compared to before where it was all over the place
i remember that the plan for Clara was to originally have her be a victorian age companion, but they were forced to do modern day companions only
Just this alone deserves a sub excited for part 2
Beilliant succinct, but Im not sure refering to a particular incarnation as "they" works when theres only a singular 2nd Doctor and singular 3rd Doctor, (or even a singular Delgado Master). Otherwise beautifully put together.
This is absolutely brilliant mate! I've been a doctor who fan since I was a kid and somehow never got around to watching classic who. This is such a nice insight into a tv show I adore :D
An excellent and amusing video depicting the history of ‘Classic’ Doctor Who 😊
Absolutely Brilliant 👍
Note: I thought I would watch the first few minutes, but had to watch the complete video ‼️
Thank You for sharing your wonderful work 😊
That was my goal!! I'm happy I achieved it and got your attention!! 🫡
That 12th Doctor line made me laugh so hard 😂
This might be one of the most hilariously edited video I have ever seen. I’m gobsmacked. Thank you for making this!!!
amazing editing, cannot wait for the next part
I always remember the first episodes release date because it was the day after jfks assasination on November 22nd, 1963
can't wait for the pt2! this is really good!!
"The Doctor is an alien who travels through time and space in his spaceship the Tardis."
Um, actually her name is "Sexy"
Lol No but seriously this video was great. It's really useful for someone like me who hasn't seen classic who
I hope you've learnt just enough of the classic series to peak an interest in some of what fun it has to offer!! Thank you!! 😁😁
@@louisslegall I'm trying to watch them honestky.
Moffat's first contribution to the show (well, outside niche short stories I guess) being a low hanging fruit comedy sketch says so much about his era it's almost actually funny, as opposed to just mildly depressing.
LITERALLY!!!!
Such a great video! Loved it and can’t wait for part 2!! Well Done
UNIT-dating controversy? It's all the Toymaker's doing
That's canon now to me as well
i desperately need a part two babes i loved the way u broke down all those older seasons XDD
Excellent video, keep up the good work!
As a new era fan this incredible helpful. I watched the first season with william and tried to watch the whole show but is really difficult to find the episodes.
the video is extremely fun, reminds me a bit to history of the entire world, i guess. Looking forward to the second part!
as a massive whovian i absolutely loved this video!! absolutely hilarious and also super informative!!! cant wait for part two :D
I love the 8th Doctor because he was the Doctor of the year I was born, and it's how I remember 2000 new year.
Really hoping Mrs. Flood is just Susan Foreman but older
It's always nice to see a video from someone who knows that Doctor Who didn't start in 2005.
Thank you very much for noticing and appreciating and I totally agree with you 😊
you could have been going on about the blandest of topics here and the silly editing would have still made it for me. it's SO good
What if Barbie was a time Lord and had a Tardis and the same applying for ken
as someone who knows next to nothing abt this franchise but is morbidly interested despite my shortcomings of knowledge, this was an excellent summary!
this is a small detail but everytime you referred to the doctor and used they pronouns i got extremely happy !!! thank you for the accuracy!!
as someone who's barely seen any classic who, this was a really helpful way to get my head around the companions and order of masters - thanks!
Using they/them for any timelord is pretty neat, thank you
Dude, I really like Doctor Who (2005-2017 era guy), but hell I just want BBC to make Doctor Who Week. Great video, solider.
I am a fan of all of the show! And it would be crazy good if they could do something like that! The closest they got to doing that was the 50th when they had so much going on.. I hope the same happens this november.. Thanks you! 😎
@@louisslegall Well, I need to find time to watch the old ones. To this day, i had watched I think 3 episodes with McCoy. And you deserve more subs, man. I'm waiting for sequel.
