If you are part of the "musical" world you know who those Phantoms are. They are big, big, big, big musical theatre performers. Nicole is a trained vocalist, the vocals she performs on her own material is more of a pop sounding vocal, but she can sing different genres, she's actually quite talented, completely underrated as a solo artists. I'm glad Andrew Lloyd Webber saw this in her. She is one of his favorite pop-artists today. But if you want another example of someone like this, look up Charlotte Church, all she did was opera styled music, and then she went commercial/secular and did a pop album, vocals are a complete 180.

@@angryasfuck6662 At least he tried and didn't get auto tuned to death like Emma Watson in Beauty and the beast. I think he did pretty well, he may not be the strongest Phantom voice wise but he did really bring the phantom out acting wise.
KaiM F I am totally with you with the the Emma Watson thing. that movie was just horrible in general. and yes, Gerad Butler did do a pretty good job acting, but the phantom is simply not the phantom if he can't sing. you can feel him struggling to try and put his best efforts onto acting out the part as well as sing. And anyway, even without Ger, that movie was still a mess, in my opinion. it had a lot of potential but they in completely destroyed it. but back to the singing, they should have just had professional signers dub the actors and let them focus on what they are actualy good at: acting!
@@angryasfuck6662 I have a soft spot for the movie because it was the movie that introduced me to my love of musicals. The only strong singer in the movie was Emmy Rossum and I think it would have been way better for an actual singer to have come in to help. Especially since most of the songs aren't simple and are very much hard vocals. I don't know why some people get so mad when actual singers come in and they just dub it over. Some actors can't sing and some singers can't act.
@@sowhat... the part Juliet was talking about where Ramin moves his hand under her chin but never touches it, the first "sing my angel of music" line I think.😍
I remember reading an article about this way back. From what I can recall, she had to work very hard as she's not classically trained. While it was easier because she has that natural talent, not everyone can sing opera.... Especially with these four surrounding her.

Nicole nailed it ! Her pitch ,her breath control, her phrasing and range.. is just perfect. This shows she's a true vocalist and talent. Rock it girl !
When women are sexy and pretty and almost perfect physically, society tends to discredit their talents and intelligence. Sad reality. Nicole is way more than just a pretty face. She's extremely talented and her heart is so pure.
NotJustAGirl Idiot...So true but very sad that it is true. Nicole is so talented in so many ways, and her vocal range is incredible. Also she is a great dancer, and very beautiful woman. Beautiful inside and out. Have you ever heard and seen her song and video "Run"? Fantastic!
People don’t look at pretty faces nowadays and expect them to have no talent. They expect them to be great at everything! They laughed at Paul Potts and Susan Boyle because they were ugly and they expected ugly voices. It just isn’t true about people who are beautiful not getting a fair shot. Name some ugly pop stars and tell me you can’t find ten times the number of very attractive ones.
I understand what you’re saying & agree in general, but let’s not forget that Nicole put herself from the beginning in the pretty-sexy-video-vixen frame, I mean she was the lead singer of a band called The ”Pussycat” Dolls, she could’ve chosen a different path if she wanted, a Sarah Brigthman path for example, but she chose a Pussycat path, more fame, more money and easy money, so if society objectives her it’s because she chose to look like an object for many many years!
Skibone21 she’s not an Opera singer lol. She’s classically trained and is a broadway actress. Completely different from Opera. But yes I’d imagine hearing Sierra singing a pop song would be weird lol

@@allisonfoley6759 i agree. She wasted so many years in mainstream pop stardom when she could easily snatch them Tony's with her amazing acting skills and theater abilities. Not to mention the godly vocals.
It was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s idea as he and Andrea Bocelli have supported Nicole Scherzinger’s musical career for years and she has featured tracks on some of their released albums. Nicole also performs live frequently with Andrea Bocelli; most recently at NYC’s Madison Square Garden and Boston’s TD Garden in December 2018.

@@raquelbrown90 yes they would have changed octaves 5 times, in a piece, that instead requires to hold the note clear and strong instead of doing that christina screaming up and down the scale.

@@oksanarose6879 You guys are welcome! I was looking for timestamps to help a student working on this song, but figured it could be helpful for many if I added them in myself
Ayanna Mae because her voice type is not quite right for this role. Someone who is playing Christine needs a sort of operatic sounding voice such as Sierra Boggess (who is also classically trained.) Nicole has an amazing voice and is an incredible singer but she doesn’t have the right voice for Christine.
Purp13luver I agree with you but I also think Nicole did a stellar job of this . If we are going to compare, even better than Emily Rossum in the 2004 movie version. She did not seem to have control over her voice. I seen phantom of the opera live at her majesty's theatre in London in 1998 and have loved this ever since. It was either Sarah Ryan or Jill Washington who played the role of Christine. I don't recall. Anyway it was a fabulous experience
I just shake my head at all these comments nitpicking at what was overall a great performance considering she is not known for singing opera. At least give some credit in spite of yourself. Most pop stars can't do this.
Joe Schneider it's neither is called crossover. It's not traditional opera not is it musical. Operetta at best but the most accurate term is "classical crossover". You sing this for an audition at any respectable conservatoire and you will not be accepted.
Holy...what an ending. I bet those opera professionals were impressed by her range. The men were excellent, I couldnt choose a favorite. When they all had to sing together in unison, wow. Absolutely beautiful.
Chris Conrad i feel like the PCD needed her to get famous. but honestly, I'm sure no one knew she could sing like this PCD or not. can you imagine all the superstars who can't actually sing but are famous AF: Britney Spears, Madonna, J. Jackson, Taylor Swift, etc...lol but Nicole had this voice and she can't sell albums.
Have you heard the whole musical? That's the easiest song. Google "Think of me"...If she can sing that song, especially the cadenza, then I will be impressed.
+Ceasar carcus have you seen Evita, Madonna sang in that and I thought it was very good. However a lot of people slated it and said it was shit but I really don't agree I thought her voice was good throughout.
Who gathered these 5 geniuses is brilliant. The performance is BREATHTAKING. The fourth phantom’s voice is extraordinary. Nicole Scherzinger is a breeze of fresh spring air . This performance is absolutely my favorite version of phantom of the opera ,hands down ♥️♥️
Her voice is angelic! At 4:07 it's so impressive how she goes from licking her lips right to the high note without hesitation! I had no idea Nicole had vocals like this. :0
I noticed that too. I imagine myself in a situation with such a high placement then licking lips lile that to hit the same high note before it thereafter. Talent!
This made me DROP MY JAW! She saves those high octaves for a true ending and all the males they bring in to take on the Phantom really brings to light a whole new perspective to the performance. This is brilliant!
3:33-4:22...my mind is blown. Shredded. F%$^&* up. I had NO BLOODY CLUE Scherzinger could sing like that. A soprano as lush as a warm blanket, yet as spectral and lovely as the Aurora Borealis. Her ability to hit, sustain and add such a spine-tingling vibrato to her VERY high notes is nothing short of breathtaking. This is what she should have been doing all along. PCD held her back. THIS was her calling, and, goddamn; is she brilliant!
That's what a supported voice "on the breath" is supposed to sound like- relaxed, free, and with a spinning quality. Tenor #3 is the exact opposite. Numbers 1 and 2 are okay, but can improve to the quality of #4.
Fach is not always clear-cut, as some tenors have low, rumbly chest notes, and some baritones have good extension above the staff. However, the timbre of Carpenter's voice around and above the passagio demonstrates an affinity to sing tenor roles for musical theatre. As for "power" in #1's singing, that is quite irrelevant, IMO. They sing with amplification, unlike in opera which is unamplified and relies on the singers' natural abilities to project. True, musical theatre puts less emphasis on technique, simply because the vocal talent required of musical theater performers is less than that of opera (a LOT less in most cases). Yet, the topic of the original post was that of a technical nature, that's why I analysed the singers on those merits. Note, I didn't say the singers *should* improve to the level of #4, but *can*. As far as technical mastery goes, Carpenter is indeed ahead of the pack.
I love the 3rd male singer. He was splendid. Gave me goosebumps. She did a superb job on the singing, especially the high notes. That's what I was waiting for before I complimented her.
I hate that people forget how incredibly talented she is and just recognize her as some “stupid oversexualized pop star” when she can obviously do it all. They do the same with Lady Gaga even though she constantly reminds people of her talent.
I kinda wish Nicole did what Gaga does too (constantly remind people that she has talent, but necessarily being over the top) just so people give her the recognition she deserves. I hate when great artists are underrated.

Holy shitballs - I was NOT expecting this. Absolutely phenomenal - Nicole nailed the hell out of this performance, just stunning. And I have to say, every one of the phantoms were absolutely fantastic, and the way they all played off each other - very, very beautifully done.
She nailed each and every single one of those notes. Perfect pitch, perfect breath control, perfect placement with that mix before the falsetto, didn't fall off at the end.....brava, Nicole, brava!
i seriously seriously seriously dont understand why people think Nicole is lip-syncing , even those who think she is lip-syncing that last note. Thats an insult to Nicole, thats an insult to the royal variety show and the royal family, thats an insult to andrew lloyd webber and the other 4 phantoms. i dont understand why people think they - as in the royal variety organisers and andrew lloyd webber- would ever allow nicole to lip-sync - that goes against their entire philosophy . why would they even allow it to happen and be performed to a royal family member? it doesnt make sense for them to do so. If nicole wanted to lipsync, they wouldnt even ask her to do it, there have been plenty of other christine character singers who would be capable of singing that live, but why choose nicole if she couldnt do it? because of her fame? well they didnt exactly need it did they, the royal variety is fame itself - they dont need her fame to help promote it! and they are all about giving spotlight to new, capable people anyway. The whole idea of Nicole lipsyncing doesnt make sense , so why is it so hard to believe that she really can sing like that. Dont get me wrong, i'm not some hard core Nicole fan, i used to think she was just a pop singer before this, but i just dont get why people doubt her when shes just shown it here! its obvious she works hard to broaden her singing range and it just kinda seems unfair for people to just hear her sing and then go " pfft its fake, shes just a liar" - blows my mind
Omg exactly finally a like-minded person. I have known she could sing since she released Hush hush hush with TPCD. Never did I imagine I would see her on a stage production singing opera :3
The end part of this piece is always what we call 'click track' pre-recorded to preserve clarity, yes. In Broadway, and in the West End shows of Phantom. She is not singing the last part live. I work in theatre myself. Hope this helps clear up a few things. XO
But the most unbelievable thing about this (besides of the fact that those notes were high as SHIT) is that you can’t hear her breathing. Like, I know in most songs you don’t hear the artist gasping (well, you know...not counting moonlight by Ariana grande where she gasps every 2 freaking seconds....)- but those notes are incredibly high, you would expect so at least a small gasp, yet it’s completely fluent. And that, my friends, is amazing
pre-recorded. the title song for phantom is always pre-recorded as sometimes the alternate can't sing the E6 at the end or sometimes the lead is just too tired from the matinee or is sick etc. this is still her singing, but just not live. its such a hard song to do that they can't risk a 'croak', especially on RVP. virtually the only musical who do it, and just for this song.
@@benwilliamson7787 I'm sorry but this was totally live. You can hear she taking a total breath in some parts here. She IS classic trained so of course she's gonna hit an E6. And yeah, she's a full lyric soprano with 4 octaves.

I would love to know these phantoms. I have never heard of them or seen them before here. They are so beautiful. I cried every time the female hits that high note.
tang yang yes she’s actually been on broadway before lol (not in this show though)
tang yang you should look up Ramin Karimloo (the guy at 3:23) Like ALL the girls (who are into broadway) love him!! Lol (I think he is attractive but I’m not a huge fan or anything lol)
Nicole showing how amazing her talent is. People don’t give her enough credit for her vocal range. Truly powerful performance.
This completely changed how I thought about her. She's amazing.

Amber Webb She's classically trained, she doesn't sing opera.
It changed mine too. At first I only thought of her as another pop singer with decent voice who made money off her body, but after hearing this Ive become her fan
The older man's voice is my favorite. It sounds romantic and desperate.

And then there's Gerad Buttler.

Sam Neil was a surprise!
@@angryasfuck6662 At least he tried and didn't get auto tuned to death like Emma Watson in Beauty and the beast. I think he did pretty well, he may not be the strongest Phantom voice wise but he did really bring the phantom out acting wise.
KaiM F
I am totally with you with the the Emma Watson thing. that movie was just horrible in general. and yes, Gerad Butler did do a pretty good job acting, but the phantom is simply not the phantom if he can't sing. you can feel him struggling to try and put his best efforts onto acting out the part as well as sing.
Does anyone else love it when Ramin does his signature "touching her but not touching her" thing under the chin??? Just ugh *faints*
That definitely makes me really happy but my favorite signature thing he does in this role is the different second note on "stronger". 😍

I had no idea that Nicole could 1. Sing classically, and 2. Could hit notes that high.
I remember reading an article about this way back. From what I can recall, she had to work very hard as she's not classically trained. While it was easier because she has that natural talent, not everyone can sing opera.... Especially with these four surrounding her.
Hello, Nicole is classically trained but she chose to go pop maybe there’s more money
Pussy Cat Dolls formed becasue her rock music was "not marketable"
@@evechewietan Yeah I think it was a smart career choice - not just for the money but the opportunities that a high profile career will bring. Pop sells and that means publicity. She has many lesser known but no-less impressive talents too. I think above all, she has made very wise choices with regards to her career and now she gets to enjoy the fruits and explore other genres.
@@kevinmoore2929 she is a classically trained opera singer and studied musical theater- opera concentration at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio for three years on a talent scholarship.
Fantastic!
Her talent was hidden behind the sex symbol image. I concur. She has more than a pretty face. she has an amazing voice.
Simp harder.

Nope, I can't believe it, this is insane!! I will be watching this over and over and over, Those voices were all amazing, but I never expected Nicole to have pipes like that!
Of cOurse. Theater is her early trainings, thus, the leaning..
I'm not really "shocked" since she has always been talented to me. People knew her from Pussycat Dolls so they think "Oh well she's in a girl group so she surely can't have a great voice!" But yeah, my point is, i've never thought that way
Since i always knew she was extremely talented vocally.
Yeah I didn’t realize til recently that she’s actually trained in opera. Never would’ve thought that

It's almost a shame that she's a judge on Masked Singer she would be a phenomenal contestant because so few people realize how incredibly talented she is...😍

Joe Schneider it's neither is called crossover. It's not traditional opera not is it musical. Operetta at best but the most accurate term is "classical crossover". You sing this for an audition at any respectable conservatoire and you will not be accepted.

I know Nicole is supposed to be the star of this but I LOVED the voices of the men singing. They were all amazing.

Dude she’s the best Christine I’ve heard so far. Bravo.
i seriously seriously seriously dont understand why people think Nicole is lip-syncing , even those who think she is lip-syncing that last note.
Exactly. Well said. PREACH!!

The end part of this piece is always what we call 'click track' pre-recorded to preserve clarity, yes. In Broadway, and in the West End shows of Phantom. She is not singing the last part live. I work in theatre myself. Hope this helps clear up a few things. XO
***** I thought Scherzinger was self taught?
These men have powerful voices.... beautiful❤
Oh my God, so true!
pre-recorded. the title song for phantom is always pre-recorded as sometimes the alternate can't sing the E6 at the end or sometimes the lead is just too tired from the matinee or is sick etc. this is still her singing, but just not live. its such a hard song to do that they can't risk a 'croak', especially on RVP. virtually the only musical who do it, and just for this song.
Ben Williamson that’s kinda disappointing, but it’s still really impressive that they can sing it at all
@@robylopezvi Yeah it's incredible. I thought she was mezzo-soprano before this but apparently not!
@@benwilliamson7787 I'm sorry but this was totally live. You can hear she taking a total breath in some parts here. She IS classic trained so of course she's gonna hit an E6. And yeah, she's a full lyric soprano with 4 octaves.
The first phantom's singing always gets me, so powerful!
so good. i like the 4th
@@hmtqnikitashakur3399I Love them all. I'm so impressed with Nicole Scherzinger. People underestimated her because she was "just a pop star" in the Pussycat Dolls. Lol, I guess the joke is on all of us who didn't take her seriously. She can outsing 90% of the females on the charts.
@@missmew3499 this was the first time i seen her perform like this. she's an amazing singer. thats undeniable
John Owen-Jones. Definitely one of the top tiered Phantoms.
They usually have him do the “The phantom of the opera is there” and the “start to soar…” because he hits those high notes so well. His “soar” fills a room like no other.
I agree!
WOW Nicole blew my mind away. all the time she sung I was thinking if she would nail that part where the Phantom asks her to sing and WOW!
plus Ramin's the best Phantom ever. His voice his face Ugh! so handsome
Soooo much respect for Nicole. I had no idea, but wow.
In sleep he sang to me
In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me
And speaks my name
And do I dream again?
For now I find
The phantom of the opera is there
Inside my mind
Sing once again with me
Our strange duet
My power over you
Grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me
To glance behind
The phantom of the opera is here
Inside your mind
Those who have seen your face
Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear
It's me they hear
My spirit and my voice
In one combined
The phantom of the opera is there
Inside my mind
In all your fantasies you always knew
That man and mystery were both in you
And in this labyrinth
Where night is blind
The phantom of the opera is here
Inside my mind
He's there
The phantom of the opera
WOW. For me the best version of the phantom of the opera i have heard. And the 4th "phantom' (01:35) is awesome! In general interesting approach with the phantom quartet. Nicole is super engaging, cant take my eyes off her. And very well designed and atmospheric direction. Hats off.
The 4th phantom has a more of a vampire way of spelling and it goes so well
@@xexinhuxD I didn't know vampires has a special way of spelling
Floor Jansen was better, this version is also fire
Watch Nightwish with Tarja
@@West-Telecom i dislike tarja's voice very much haha. For me its too posed. Nevertheless she has a very prestigious and imposing appearance, quite like a witch.
