  • All extended rear facing car seats with a 25kg weight limit use rear tether straps. These straps have to be attached to the back of the car's front seat or its runner rails before the seat can be installed.
    In some cars the straps are very easy to attach, in others it can be a bit more tricky. I have used a variety of straps as well as cars for this video to show you how to do it, and what to do when you can't get the straps under the front seat's rails.
    I have now also made a video specifically about how to attach straps in cars where the rails are boxed in, eg the VW Touran and Ford S-Max. • How to attach a rear f...
    These are the links to the installation videos for three of the car seats I mention in this one, as well as links to my website where these seats can be purchased.

    Probably the best video in the whole Internet which shows the issues you might be facing if your tether points are not as accessible as in the official materials.
    I've bought a new car (VW Golf VII 2017) and transferring the seat has been a huge pain in the @#$. Really grateful for the vid!

    Thank you so much for all of your videos. They have been incredibly helpful and alleviated so much stress and anxiety. We have recently leased a Peugeot 3008 and are finding that the tethers/seatbelt of the car keep loosening (we have an Erf Avionaut Sky). We found this Same issue with a recent rental car. I am going to check that we have tethered correctly using your advice here but have you come across this issue before with the seats loosening? Many thanks!!

      Thank you so much!
      I have just asked Avionaut for you and the older style clips used to do this in some cars. Not all cars' seat belts are the same and when they're a bit thinner this can happen. They have now changed the clips so this no longer happens, but if yours are the older ones you can stop the belt from slipping by adding a small piece of fabric, effectively making the part of the seat belt that is locked into place a bit thicker. The same thing used to happen with the Britax Max-Way (Plus) and they used to also advice adding a piece of fabric.
      As for the tethers loosening, this is not something we have come across before. Avionaut have asked me if you would you be able to WhatsApp me a video of that. I will then forward that to them. My number is 07752253499.
      Thanks!

    Thank you, your videos are so easy to follow with clear instructions. I just received my axkid mini today and didn’t realise how heavy it would be. We need to swap the car seat everyday due to childcare. Is there another rear facing car seat you’d recommend at a more reasonable price as we can’t afford to get yet another axkid?

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  2 роки тому

      Have you bought a second pair of tether straps? Leaving a pair in each car makes swapping it a lot easier. But if the weight is your main issue, then you will need a second seat. The cheapest seat up to 25kg that I sell is the Axkid Move, which costs £245 and occasionally goes on offer for £195. The Britax Max-Way Plus is normally £299 and goes down to £249 from time to time.

      @@RearFacingToddlers yes I got two sets. We haven’t actually tried it yet but feeling the weight of it today made me think we may cave in and get a second seat if we get fed up of switching daily. It’s seems a brilliant seat though :) thank you, that’s great to know. If we look at a second seat I’ll be in contact. Thank you for your help, it’s very much appreciated!

    This video is super super helpful! Thankyou! Only question can you use the through the seat tethering for the middle of back seat. Thanks xx

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  3 роки тому

      Yes, you can. You would just put one strap through the side of each front seat that's closest to the middle. This will only work if you never need to alter the position of the front seat for different drivers.

    I'm trying to install an Axkid Minikid 2 in a VW Sharan. We managed to get under the rails and successfully install the carseat, but now the drivers seat (and passengers if we moved it to that side) won't go back far enough to drive comfortably. Is there anywhere else we can tether the carseat or trick to allow the seat to fully move back while the tethers are in place? Thank you.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi,
      The Minikid will lean back and take up as much space as you give it, so the trick is to put the front seat in the required position before installing the Minikid. There is plently of space in the Sharan, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Ive just about got the tethers under the rails of my meriva. The door side one was verrrry tight and not sure i could manage it again if i had to take them out.

    Thank you for your informative videos, so many of them have been really helpful to me over the years. I have a 2015 Skoda Fabia estate and the rails are not boxed and directly flush with the carpet with no gap underneath. I'm trying to install a besafe stretch, would d rings be the answer and if so, do I need to get them from besafe directly?

      Hi,
      The rails in the Fabia are difficult to get under, but I think it can be done with a blunt knife. Alternatively you can install tether loops, which are made by Axkid and you can buy from me. Please email me at margaret@rearfacingtoddlers.com if you'd like some.

      To install these car seats in the front seat you attach the tether straps to the rails in the same way and then pass them underneath the front seat and up from the front.

      It should be possible, but in quite a few Fords the rails are boxed in. This video explain how to attach the straps if that's the case. If that doesn't work either you'll have to pass the straps through the seat.

    how can you install the rear baby seat at the front seat of the car?

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  5 років тому +1

      For front seat installation you attach the tether straps to the back of the front seat or the rails as I have described in this video, and you then pass the straps under the vehicle seat and attach them to the back of the child seat.

    Do ALL ERF seats have teether straps? I have an ERF seat by baby auto. I know it's not a well known brand but I did loads of research before buying and they do do the extra safety tests. However, thebonly straps on it I thought were for forward facing tethering as it is iso fix when FF. Am I meant to use them for ERF tether too?

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  5 років тому +2

      Hi Elizabeth,
      Is yours the Infinity Fix? I had never heard of Baby Auto, but just found it on their website. Your car seat has a top tether which is only used when (if) you use the seat forward facing in Group 1, so with the harness. Rear facing you don't use it.
      Extended Rear Facing car seats that go up to 25kg have lower tether straps which attach to the back of the front seat behind it, but yours doesn't have those.
      Margaret

    • @elizabethjoseph2407
      @elizabethjoseph2407 5 років тому

      @@RearFacingToddlers no it is not that one it is the baby auto multifix. Essentially the same but only iso fix in one direction. Wish the infinity fix had been out when we got ours as I'd have got that instead. What you say makes sense though, I think ours is only RF til 18kg. Will check.

    That's a stupid idea. If you loosen the bolts on the rail on the drivers seat it makes the drivers seat unsafe. Plus seat won't go back with the belt around rail.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  4 місяці тому +1

      You obviously tighten the bolt again after you’ve passed the strap under the rail.
      You need to put the front seat in the correct position before you fasten the strap, so that you won’t need to move the seat back.
