Spelt, also known as dinkel wheat or hulled wheat, is a species of wheat that has been cultivated since approximately 5000 BCE. Spelt was an important staple food in parts of Europe from the Bronze Age to medieval times. Now it survives as a relict crop in Central Europe and northern Spain, and it has found a new market as a health food. Spelt is sometimes considered a subspecies of the closely related species common wheat, in which case its botanical name is considered to be Triticum aestivum subsp. spelta. Like common wheat, it is a hexaploid wheat, which means it has six sets of chromosomes.
Brilliant thanks mate.
Great knowledge, thank you for sharing that with us all.

The magic of editing. Good on you, Gaz, for adapting to modern technology as at 55 yrs old, I've only just about learnt to do my flies up properly 😉🤣
Mhmm
Haha 👍 not cold down South now mate 🤣
I'm 55 also and have to wear velcro on my footwear 😂😂
@@emmaparker5302 Velcro is a right rip off!
"Salty & Doughy".
Could have been a 1970s northern working men's club comedy double act.
Bless you Gareth 😂 the pizza joke makes me smile every time !!!! Love all your videos, nice one mate. Best wishes from John from Ascot 👍
Gareth, I believe Spelt is an old fashioned bread flour…
Glad you enjoyed it John
Great live today whilst filming fab idea. Glad I could be part of it for abit😁
Cheers yes I enjoyed it, was something different 😀
They are adding more bread and less toppings so the weight stays the same. Bread is cheaper than cheese tomatoes and meat.
Another excellent video, Gareth! I had the The Ultimate Texas Style BBQ Chicken & Bacon version of this about a week ago. Wow... probably the tastiest dough I've ever had from a frozen pizza. Although I absolutely cannot do hard/crispy crusts on a pizza. So I either whack the pizza in a pizza box for 5-10 mins to soften the crust or spread some garlic butter on the crust. I also cook pizzas on a little bit of a lower temperature too (10-20 degrees). All that aside though, the Texas BBQ version is a top notch pizza. Comes very close to a takeaway pizza, I'll say that.
Cheers for that
Watched the live stream now this. Great idea, enjoyed seeing how you do it. 10/10 😀👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I saw this earlier really interesting behind the scenes of this like to see some more of this great work.
Thanks
loved the live stream and thanks for reading out a couple of my comments..,,,,cheers Gareth
No worries mate, cheers for watching pal 👍
I would probably have purchased one of these, but you have saved me from wasting my money. Cheers Gaz.
You're welcome 😊
Top draw Gaz your wife should be impressed today a fella doing 2 things at the same time 😂😂🎉❤😊
Cheers Tim, thank you
Congratulations on 90K😍
Thank you!!
Looks amazing, gonna try next time 😜
Hey Gareth, who knew that you can be a multi tasker 😃 Live stream and Pizza review 🍕🧑🍳. Looked an OK pizza and not really a bank breaker. Sorry missed your live stream, hope fully catch up with the next one. Cheers mate and see you in, and on the next one Allan&Family
Cheers mate
Spelt flour is an old Roman wheat strain, a strong bread type flour that holds its shape when bread making...
That was quick editing Gaz.
Enjoyed this afternoons video.
Thanks 👍
Great review Gareth oh looks ok 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Watched the live stream on my lunch bud but missed the important bit.the taste😂
When I was in the Army I did 16 years in Germany. The local Schnell Imbiss was the takeaway choice of many squaddies.
They also did a pizza made from a scone type dough. It was a lot thicker than normal pizzas. But it was really tasty. My favourite was with a Tuna topping.
Their other great food was Gyros. Much better than what you get from a Kebab Shop.
If I had the money ? I would open a real German Schnelly. It would outdo any Kebab, chicken or pizza shop. I would guess that ex Squaddies would be queuing up for Currywurst mitt pommes.
Yes used to get the gyros very nice mate. I left in 98 been a while now. All the best mate 👍
Remember that song “mouldy old dough “ that was a good one😂👍
I did a weekly shop at Lidl tonight. It was Greek week and I wanted some Gyros. I checked out their fresh pizza range. They had fresh sourdough, stone baked pizza at £3.75, so I bought one.
Now, I have had handmade pizza in Italy, and yes they were great. But not on the same par as Dominos or Pizza Hut. They are rubbish.
I baked it off and had it for my supper. And I have to admit it was top notch.
I find that many pizza outlets add some Italian herbs to try and make them taste ‘ Italian ‘, much like Spaghetti Bolognaise.’
Recently my community funds bought a BBQ pizza
stone for our BBQ’s. I look forward to testing it out.
At the end of the day ? Foods like Mexican tortillas in the UK don’t have the same impact as those eaten in Mexico. But for people who can’t afford to travel in order to taste the real thing ? Choose the nearest thing from your store. And for those who are on a budget ? £3.75 is better than £11.75 🥴🤔🥴.
Definitely Gerry, next time I'm in Lidl I will try one of those pizzas. Cheers pal 👍
Had the pepperoni version of this range of pizza today 👍
Was in the live today another great review pal have yiu gave the ital pizza's a chance from icelands yet they are lush
Cheers mate
These Iceland pizzas always alarm me when I read the salt content (as high blood pressure runs in my family and I'm borderline high it's always something I take notice of as salt contributes to it)!
In my experience the fresh supermarket pizzas in the chilled section are alot better than the frozen ones.
Looked ok i enjoy a pizza gonna try
Best wishes gareth
Cheers Kizzy
Missed you live busy morning , I don't think these prices will ever go down Gareth ✌️
I like a nice meat feast pizza Gareth but I usually get mine from Morrisons with my staff discount but I would think a lot of the prepacked ones are similar in taste, another good one big pal
Cheers Rick
Hey Gareth, over in the USA Ranch Salad dressing is so popular they actually add a few mini containers of it in with your pizza to dip the pizza crust in. I only found out about it when it started showing up in pizza deliveries.
Garth have you ever thought of doing a chicken egg v duck egg 🥚
I noticed you were doing a live stream but I'm no good at those, and it was past bedtime anyway. This pizza is the opposite of the kind I like, New York style with the large thin slices you fold with your hand while eating (unless you're D. Trump and use a knife and fork 😆). Of course, there's no style of pizza I'd kick out of bed, as it were. I do buy frozen pizza, and they're OK, but all lack something in the cheese and sauce departments. I'm thinking about going back to taking the time and trouble to make my own, or at least a tomato tart, which is more home oven friendly.
"Would I buy it again"....probably next time they change the box 😆
That looks like the kinda pizza you sling in the oven after a night out on the beers and night clubbing around 1998 lol
And the leftovers for breakfast the following day?
@pheart2381 lol, I always loved a leftover Indian meal for breakfast.
I would rather have a deep pan pizza over a thin one. The one I like is Morrison's own meat feast pizza. And even then I put extra grated mature cheddar on it.
Must admit I've yet to find a better supermarket Pizza than Co-op's chilled thin crust. Thanks for the review though 😊👍
Our pleasure!
The ultra cheap Asda non branded small pizza that cost 55p have decent bases I discovered the other day, so you just add more cheese and salami on the things
I love all that grease on the pizza more flavour 😋
Cheers Kerry
Looks good. But prefer thin crust , but toppings looked nice. Just need to add some jelepinos
Oh yes!
18 min cooking in my airfry oven would turn it to a black piece of bread.
for £4 I could get a 10 inch pizza from my local takeaway.
does this cut in to 8 joke always get said for every pizza.
Yes that looks like a deep pan. I get the deep pan in Morrision's. Think it a little cheaper.
The only new thing about these are the box mate, this range has been out for a while now, Think I've mentioed them to you a fair few times the garlic bread one is one of the best going you need to try that 👌👌
Thanks for the info pal
I know somebody that’s a supervisor for Iceland where I live and they said there are some new things coming to Iceland soon I don’t know if that means food or what
If you cut it in two, you’ll only be half as hungry 🤪
Nice review Gareth. I think it looks decent but possibly a bit expensive for what you get. I don't think you can really charge a premium for a frozen pizza for the simple reason a fresh pizza will always blow it out the water.
Handy to have in the freezer maybe but there's no gimmicks here to even make you feel like you are buying a premium product.
Cheers mate
Recommended Chicago Town Raw Dough Pizza..!!!
Hey, quick question...did you find the pizza Salty or Doughy.. 😅
Haha
Party food, to fill the table 😂
is it still a little salty after editing?
Could u review Iceland's new vegetable pizza?
Spelt is one of the so called "Ancient Grains". I am surprised to see it listed as a potential allergen as it is recommended by the medicos as suitable for people with wheat allergies. Brought to the British Isles by the Romans. I have tried it when eating at other people's tables and it is a different and quite distinctive flavour profile, in a similar way say rye bread or Sourdough. Hope that helps.
Thank you kindly
@@BaldFoodieGuy you're welcome. 74 yearold "Foodie" here. I'll try any food once except Snails and Oysters. 🤢🤣
Hi Gareth, Have you tried the supermarkets build your own pizza they do it in Asda and Tesco not sure about the others, much better than any frozen pizza I have ever had!
No don't think so. Asda Pizza is good though 😋
I wonder what a dominos pizza is like frozen then reheated
Considering the amount if 'food scientists ' involved in designing stuff like this for freezer to table hiw con no ones been able to significantly improve on those darling little six inch Chicago Town pizzas
My wife got the same thing but from Sainsburys £5.22 to be honest it was rubbish , was not keen on the crust ,dont think il be guying that one either ,though it did look better then Sainsburys pizza .Good review has usual mate
Cheers Lee, yes just not right mate.
Try the Chicago town Salt and pepper weekender. They have them at iceland for £5. I think you'll enjoy it.
Think I've reviewed it
@@BaldFoodieGuy I must have missed that one.
I tried this, was bang average.
Those Seabrook Fire Eater crisps are back in Lidl Gaz. The Scorpion Chilli ones will give your bumhole a tickle
It would be interesting to go to Italy and try the pizza there to see if it tastes different to the pizzas in the uk
Have you seen any Italians flying into the UK to sample a frozen pizza from Iceland? No, well I think you have your answer right there.
2 completely different products aimed at 2 different markets.
Italians would cry at the way pizza has been bastardised in the Uk. 😢
Hi. Spelt is a type of wheat
beat me to it
Cheers Ant
Spelt is a type of wheat that was cultivated by the Romans. It hardly tastes any different to ordinary wheat. It's the fermentation of yeast that makes bread taste nice. Although most bread tastes like Cotton Wool, these days, you can mix strong white flour with water and yeast to make a porridge. Leave it to ferment for a few hours' or overnight. Then add more flour until it becomes a Dough. Put the Dough into an oiled Tin, (Olive Oil) and sprinkle Salt all over it. Then Bake it at 180° in your fan oven for 40 mins. It should taste Fantastic !!! You don't even have to knead it !!!
Cheers for the information 👍
Gareth enjoyed both videos suggestion for you ,how about doing a live electric bike ride ? You did promise us a day out in Blackpool as well
Haha the bike is illegal so I'm told lol
Oh tell us the jokes again and don’t forget the mention the Shadows😂👍
I think what they done here was just added extra pizza dough and tarted up the name. But when I saw the carb count on 1/2 a pizza? I was like forget it. Lethal 👹👹
💜💜💜
Spelt is how you spell something 😂😂
Will watch the live stream when I have more time Gaz....if you fancy a pizza night withbthe girls M&S do a £12 meal deal....2 pizzas and 2 sides and they are really tasty
Yummy 😋
Get yourself some Paul Newman's ranch dressing to dip your pizza in. You won't regret it 👍
Nice one cheers
Hi Gareth, sorry I missed the live stream, Like your self not a fan of doughy pizza I just find it stodgy, I'll catch you soon have a great weekend, Take care
Cheers Shaun
It's doughy and salty, is what i heard. Didn't look particulary appealing either. With 3.8g of salt per half pizza , that is over 60% of your RDA. IMO that is not what I recognise as a hand stretched pizza, having had a few in my time. At £3.50 I think it is worth a miss.
BTW I watched a bit of your live stream today beore going to work. We get to see the real workings of what goes into your review process. Thanks Gareth,
You're welcome
Not for me but thanks for another honest review 💜💜💜
You’re welcome 😊
Bog standard Pizza?
Fulltime job mate
Yes mate indeed 👍 although I don't call it a job.
Spelt is an ancient type of wheat,a bit like Einkhorn wheat.
Thank you
im suffering from deja vu haha
Never ever cheesy enough.
Great review Gaz a support watch for the numbers 👏👏👍👍
Much appreciated
Never get bored of the pizza joke. Even used it my self 😂😂😂
Haha cheers pal
party food up here , . it,s better when youve had a few
Haha isn't everything 🤣 🍻🍻
Pizza’s are always a go to for a night in with a movie.
The average price for a store bought pizza is about right at £3.50. Compare that to my local Domino’s, their cheapest small pizza with 2 toppings is £7.99 plus delivery, or free if the orders over £14.99.
They do a double pizza special meal for £29.99.
Let’s face it, after a couple of bevvies you can’t really tell the difference.
Where I live, a few of us get together for a weekly poker night. Whoever’s turn it is to host it buys in the break snack.
So you would be looking at around £60+ for the food and drinks.
So a store bought pizza is the way to go.
When it’s my turn I do a curry and rice with some sides. But I also do pizza. But I throw in some extra toppings and oven chips. No complaints yet 👍🏻.
I like the Lidl or Aldi pizzas as they are of a decent quality and good value.
A good review Gareth. 👍🏻.
At the end of the day ? A pizza is a pizza, the only difference is the price. Over £60 with Domino’s or £15 with Lidl’s ? No contest.
I am not sure what your couple of bevvies are but no matter how steamboating I am, I can still tell the difference between a shite frozen pizza and a dominos.
Let's not try and rewrite history here mate.
Yes shocking prices at domino's and they are garbage mate. Cheers Gerry. Just profiteering robbers.
Domino's profiteering robbers
@@Essydyk
Do you believe that Domino’s has it’s toppings etc delivered fresh everyday ?
A pizza definitely isn’t pizza. Maybe if you are a food illiterate 🤔
A fresh stone baked sour dough pizza is nothing like these pretenders😢
Looks really thick & doughy I think. Hopefully there is more cheese on it like u said-oh dear…….alas
I yet to find a takeaway style shop bought frozen pizzas, it's something they jus haven't mastered for me! All frozen pizza seem to taste the same. Don't know if it's the freezing or long shelf life's r the problem
That's lookes so doughy 😢😢 Gareth 😊
⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️
i wonder if its doughy
Or salty
I wonder if iceland are making alot of dough from this pizza?!
Lot of dough...for a lot of dough. Then again that's Iceland all over . Can't whack the meat feast or BBQ chicken from Lidl at £2.25
I've not had that one
you need to get in there Gaz
As someone already mentioned....."Salty and Doughy!" ....2 great characters for a Bald Foodie Guy cartoon spin - off!..... Would just need an Enemy for each week's episode! ------- hang on a minute 200 degrees?...... that's why we will call him " Mr Farenheit! " 😅
Haha 👍
You can't beat Icelands Numero Uno pizza.
That's a good one. Cheaper in farm foods
Are you being serious 🤔😩
I was thinking that 450g was pretty fair for a pizza, then saw the "serves two".
No phuquing way!
What's that, a nine or ten inch pizza?
Like deployed 👍
Grease will be from peperoni
When I eat a pizza I always have a pot of potato salad to hand.
Yum 😋
I don't rate supermarket pizzas that highly. Some are just about OK but thay are a poor substitute for what you get in a restaurant. They do seem to be popular though, from the sheer volume sold by my local Morrisons. Half the frozen isle is just pizza. Can't be good for children's health.
6:33 mhm 7:01 mhm! mhmmm
Where would we be without the enumeration of Gaz's mmmhms...! 🤣
Almost 8g of salt, healthy pizza????
I use that cutting the pizza into 8 pieces joke with my kids every time we have them.
Haha brilliant does it get them?
Spelt is a grain!
Cheers mate
To much dough give me heartburn
Greasy, slicky, fatty is where the flavor is, lol.
Hand stretched 😂the first human hand to touch that is yours .
