The winds high up there are hurricane force. There was nothing wrong with the crane itself as it was weather veining. Weather veining is a good thing. The fallen material was poorly secured construction material stored on the roof that would normally be quite safe up there. Unused scaffolding, slip mold panels and temporary columns to hold up the slip molds to allow for concrete slab work.
The crane was indeed weathervaning, but the hook was not properly secured. The hook was whipping around and taking chunks off the building with it. The debris was not improperly secured construction material.
It was not the crane hitting the building it was the hook that was to low that was hitting the building .
As stated above: “ the hook was not properly secured. The hook was whipping around and taking chunks of the building off with it”
@@FDNYResponseVideos love that you clarified this keep up the great work!
Watching that crane spin in the night sky was creepy af.
It’s called weathervane for the crane
000
I'm german, but it gives me the absolute worst feeling one can imagine, when I see FDNY guys look up into the sky..
Was wondering if anyone felt that way. Every time they showed them looking up or looking up and pointing I got chills.
9/11 will always be felt in moments like that.
My brain always goes back to 9/11 when I see a FDNY firefighter have to look up like that! Gives me the creeps and makes me nervous af.........
So true.
WOW! Just AWESOME Footage and Coverage!👍👏
Solid catch and even more solid footage. Stay safe out there.
The crane is designed to spin like that it’s just unsecured material that was flying down
No, the crane was spinning and it hit the buildings next to it therefore explaining the debris that fell.
@@CHAINSMELLY no it’s perfectly normal to weathervane the tower crane the hook wasn’t ran all the way up so it wouldn’t hit anything
29th October 2012- Hurricane Sandy hits NYC. A crane atop a mega-highrise building under construction on West 57th Street netween 6th and 7th Avenue suffers damage, resulting in a 10-60 major emergency signal. 29th October 2020- Hurricane Zeta hits NYC. A crane atop a mega-highrise building under construction on West 57th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue suffers damage, resulting in a 10-60 major emergency signal. Spooky!
Is this accurate if it is that really crazy
Great footage
I’ve been waiting for this video to come out
Such a big and complex incident. It'd be interesting to know how they secured it. Great footage.
Great video my friend 👍
The new Rescue 4 is such a babe! Especially all lit up at night time. Impeccable footage as usual good sir! Stay safe out there man!! 🙏💪🚒🚔🚑
Bonjour à vous les héros très belle intervention et vous avez des beaux engins par rapport à nous les Français . Je vous souhaite une bonne continuation à toutes les compagnies à bientôt 👍🚒
Great footage! stay safe
Thanks
Nice video keep it up
Nice catch
Wow best catch stay safe out there 🌃🗽🚒🚨👩🚒
Can't wait to watch this! Busy buffing right now, but got the alerts on my phone even 3,000 miles away in London! #NeverNotBuffing 😂
Lots of Irish names, cool to see. Stay safe 🇮🇪
nothing surprises me in 2020
swinging tower arm sure can do some damage, to me crane tower looks more sturdy than the building which looks like the wind could blow it over, thanks for great video and coms....Scott
Crane arm ? You’re a moron it’s called the boom of the crane
@FDRV can I use screenshots from this video as long as I give you credit?
How do you get access to the scenes so close? It's amazing footage
It's legal Thier I think
I've always wondered how do you get so close? Do you work for the FDNY? Or what?
Wow , look at all those firefighters responding , it looks windy , cold with rain , stay safe everyone !!! 😊
Major crane incidents on that block in 2008 & 2012!
The Buildings are Too Damn High!!!!
How did you know the relocations? Did you just listen to the radio?
Did NYPD ESS also has responded there?
The operator puts the crane in " windvein" mode to minimize cross wind resistance. Designed as safety feature.
Right, but a hook came loose and was swinging; that's what clipped chunks off of the building.
What type of radio fo you have
Was the drone unit there
Where is this
why is HAZMAT 1 there?
Heard the radio traffic on this one!
Cheers for the video, question re Orange lights on top of Engines etc, why orange?, over her in New Zealand, its Red on Fire engines and ambulances, and red and blue on police great looking vehicles
They are actually red, they just look orange because they are very high-intensity, they are overdriving the receptors on the camera.
Красивый город Нью-Йорк!!!
What is div 3 messager?
Each division has a "messenger van" assigned to it. It's just an ordinary van that can be used to move stuff around. When you have a random need to move stuff or people, usually for non-emergency reasons, that's what the messenger vans are for.
Damn, it looks like they called in the entire division and special operations.
Why was Rescue 4 there?
Manpower and they have technical/high-angle rescue training.
Seeing the field Comm truck is nice. Last time I heard field comm was during the 9/11 events and after the south tower fell they were unable to get in touch. If anyone is interested there’s a UA-cam video of the entire event through firefighters channel it’s very chilling.
FDNY always goes way overkill
Better to have too much than too little.
What for a crane that is out of control and could kill someone? Ya it’s better to have no deaths then to not be carful and people get killed.
@@Deltax156 what if it also had baby kittens on it
Those 3 firefighters looking up reminded me what 1,000 of my brothers and sisters saw on 9/11 rest easy 343 👨🏼🚒💯
Is that de Blasio up there?
At 2:30 is that Dan Aykroyd ?
Title to this video is incorrect and misleading. Tower crane did not appear to be damaged and did not collapse. The spinning of the crane (weather-vaning) is normal and is designed to do that in high winds as were apparent in this video. The material laying in the road appears to be something like maybe a window frame that was stored loose on one of the upper floors that the winds blew down to the ground. The material is hard to see in the dark but it doesn't look like any part of a crane or support structure I recognize.
From reports on scene and from FDNY investigations, the Hook from the crane that was veining loose and smashing into the building causing large chunks of building to fall to thr ground below.
How are you allowed to just be so close?
RUL? Resource Unit Leader?
Is FDNY on analog or digital radio, planning on traveling down there with family on thanksgiving. Taking my scanner radio with me to the big apple. Flex from Chicago.
Still analog if I remember correctly. Not much in NY is digital yet.
@@jameslambert7012 o.k. thanks
Where’s Spider-Man at
Are you actually with FDNY, cause I wouldn’t be letting a random civilian into the scene.
I believe they have a press badge if you know what that is which basically lets them in the scene to record
It’s still spinning right now
Union membership doesn’t make a person smart or hard working. The failure here was not labor, it was supervisory.
The only requirement for membership is $
@@ebblue81 not even close to true stfu
Breaking news story is on ABC7 NY: up date @ 4pm Friday
Non union jobs are a danger to everyone.
Did you see the Rat? Hard to believe the city would allow non union construction at this time.
🤔 Just wondering
Why?
@@ddylla85 shoddy and unsafe worksites.
Can some one explain relocations?
To fill the gap while trucks are on the call like rescue 1 sq-41 is a special rig since the rescue is on that call that want to Have a unit with the rescues capabilities if that makes sense
@@josephplants3947 thanks you
@@idalwave6422 welcome back I hope that made sense
What’s with the Scots?
the description needs better description Not just everyone that responds
Description says everything you need to know... want me to write a book about it?
Stuff is always falling off that building.
what are all the car numbers?
I think it's in the description.
Numerous Chiefs from Headquarters
@@tommyhatton3893 is there a list somewhere of who has what car?
Yeah just google "Fdny Car Numbers" it'll come up
Was it just me, or did I see a civilian hanging from the crane?
Was anybody in th crane?
I don’t think so because they called on the radio to see if they could get a crane operator up there but they said not in those conditions referring to the crane spinning out of control.
Ok
2:38
State Trooper responding in, interesting.
That wasn't a FDNY car?
@@user-wq4ui7gw1w Ah, looking at it again it definitely was. Threw me because they have the same light pattern as the NYSP and it was a Taurus.
First
don't remember asking
Way, way, way overblown response for a situation with no safe remedy.
Union strong 🤦🏻♂️
