- This documentary follows the work of the FDNY rescue companies 1 and 2 prior to 9/11 and then afterwards. There was a heavy loss of life of Rescue company personnel at the twin towers collapse and this shows the effect it has had on the personnel since that tragic day.
R.I.P The brothers
Gary Geidel of Rescue 1 is my Dad <3 I lost him on 9/11😔🙏
My dad was a fireman in England. I remember the words he spoke as he watched this nightmare unfold "Those are my brothers in there"
“You want to be a banker, you work on Wall Street, but if you want to be a fireman, you work in the Ghetto” love that quote.
Im a now retired Fireman from Michigan. My buddy & I had the privilege to ride with Rescue 2 in 1990 for a week. Then later 50E & 19L in the Bronx. I learned so much from these guys. It changed my whole career. There were a few Chiefs that looked the other way when we arrived in our Bunker gear from MI & went to work with the companies. I actually wore FDNY boots & a coat because the guys all wanted to try out the gear we had. We all learned from each other and gained life long friendships. Many of the guys we worked with died on 9/11. My heart still hurts. I’ll never forget any of them! RIP brothers.
People look up to celebrities, but I look up to these guys, and all of the heroes who risk their life by running towards danger while everyone is running from it. ❤
“If you worked rescue company that day... you died.” That one hit
We are still losing heroes because of the tragedy of 9/11/2001. Whether they died that day or years or decades later because of resulting illnesses, we remember and honor them always.
the dude with the cigar in the truck....that is old skool firefighting right there.
They never acknowledge the female rescue workers who lost their lives too. Only the men are ever praised for their heroism.
To quote one of the incredible firefighters right in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, “We have trouble with one funeral. How are we going to handle 300?” These are the true heroes.
Those men, on 9/11, took a long stair way up to heaven
I’ve watched a ton of 9/11 shit. This is the one that hit me hardest. Good lord. Made it feel like I knew these guys. That’s ultimately why it hurt so bad.
Chief Downey made the off duty rescues squads stay out of harms way but refused to leave more of his men behind and went back into the North Tower to wait for them. Such an honorable man.
What a blessing it is for this footage to be available for the world and their friends and family to see.
Favorite line: "Everything goes through the kitchen. You gotta get a cup of coffee you go through the kitchen. You need to find out what happened that day you gotta go through the kitchen. All the ball breaking goes through the kitchen." The kitchen is the center of the firehouse universe. Just awesome.
21 years later. My heart still breaks for those lost and the people who laid down everything for citizens
I had the privilege to be a firefighter for 25 years with some of the greatest men and woman in the north of England, like all families we argued and fight, but we all knew when It matted they would be there for you. On this terrible day I was thinking about getting for a night shift when I watched this horror unfold. On arriving at my fire station to start my shift I have never found a more somber and quiet place, the off going crews were just sitting around totally stunned. It became clear that their thoughts were not so much for the lost fireman but more for the families left behind. That might sound harsh, but I think it shows compassion. They knew they could do nothing for those lost but wondered how they could help those left behind. I know a great many uk fireman dug deep in their pockets to help those left behind. Like myself a great many uk firefighters lost NYFD friends in this tragedy . we all knew how big their hearts and hospitality were and many a tear was quietly shed in private. We remember them everyday and they will never be forgotten as long as there is a fireman alive.
On Sept 11, 2001, while responding to Box Alarm 8087, 403 of my Brother police officers, paramedics, and firefighters gave their lives while safely evacuating over 25k people from the World Trade Center complex. They didn't ask anyone who they voted for, where they lived, the name of their god, or how much was in their bank account. They just kept climbing, even after the first tower fell. Most were never identified or recovered.
This and more like this needs to be shown in schools, kids think 9/11 is a joke to meme about.
After all these years the one line I haven’t heard until now...
