    I built a small strong vane powered alternator to replace the old generator on my 1941 J4 Cub. That was how they recharged the battery on the limited electrical system back then. I used a Delco alternator and adjusted the pitch so it didn't scare me from the high speed screaming. It came apart in flight one day causing fear and grief. I researched the alternator market for one with higher capacity thrust bearing and found a nippondenso. It worked great. For all you sharp shooters out there, no it wasn't stc FAA approved.
    I have had my life nearly ended several times by shoddy A&P mechanics. Being an ex Air Force mechanic, it's my life and I'll do the maintenance thank you.

    So good to see people discussing and finding better ways to do same thing. Is there anyone who has professionally worked on small wind turbines projects ? I would like to discuss a couple of things and would appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks for the idea. I intend to build a slow speed fan in my workshop to circulate warm air from above the stove and across the roof, down to where I am. It has to be big, but slow moving, otherwise the wind-chill outweighs the heat gain (as I have found out with a desktop fan). At the moment it takes about 2-3 hours to warm it up by natural warm-air currents so hopefully this would speed that up.

Spacing them one at each corner and each of them blowing horizontally towards the next one, creates a gentle draft and gave me the effect I wanted. They are often used by bootleg cannabis growers in confined spacers.

    The 90 degree cut at the blade base will like be the point of failure, better to just cut those two connecting points at 45 degrees and have the extra material for strength.

    Great insight into the build just subscribed and it’s a nice compact turbine I also have built a homemade 650 watts wind turbine, a treadmill motor turbine and a little but powerful ametek 30v turbine and built 2 diy solar panels, be careful in high winds one of my first turbines blew up 😕and now have only 2 wonderful turbines working daily 😊it’s very satisfying watching those things working, keep up the good work buddy 👍

      Teach me too. If i want air to be pushed fwd & sucked from back like an exhaust fan. shud the blade curvature be different. Why do some house fans have 4 blades? Is it better for windmills with low wind speeds to have fewer blades?

    Interesting video. I heard also about so called "vertical turbines" - I am not sure if I wrote the name in English correctly. You could make a video showing how to construct such a turbine. Regarding to this video maybe I am wrong but I am a bit afraid if this construction resist in case of very strong wind (eg. screws, pcv, welds).

    I find that cutting the square notch at the end will eventually cause it to snap at that point (even with the steel), better to just a 45 degree angle there and have the extra material as reinforcement.

    hey try conveyor motor on the turbine stator for your wind turbine instead and plug in wall (you get more out of it.)plus you get five billion views in five years. it has sixty magnets right conveyor is always one rotation per second on you put on dial. do it fast. then upgrade magnets for more amps and voltage. use power box extra one electric company one extra (IT WORKS YOU JUST HAVE TO REMEMBER TO GREASE IT.)

    Cool solution. But the rear edge of the blades is allways 0° this is ideal. I guess it is worth to spend a little more time and fasten the whole blade with an angle. In this case you should put the edge with the different angele to the rear. I would expect that this would fit better to the different angle of attack along the different sections of the turbine.
    Do you have some experience what wind speeds can be hanled by such a construction?

  • @jaycal1920
    @jaycal1920 6 років тому

    The supported edge should be the leading edge. Twist them.
    Also as noted in some of the other coments PVC might not be best choise as will become brittle or melt in the sun.
