During the war, if you wore a turban, fur coat and slacks you were considered rather common!!!! Often turbans were worn over curlers in the daytime, then the hair could be combed out in the evening into a nice page-boy bob. I never wore one though.
Nice! I'm a diesel mechanic and I've been looking for an easy way to cover up my hair while I'm at work, and this looks perfect. I've been growing my hair longer, and it's getting long enough to get caught under the wheels of my creeper, which is painful and dirty lol
I remember wearing a turban headscarf in a Ryvita factory in the 1970s. It looked quite attractive and I used to wash mine in hot water so the garish yellow cotton faded to a pretty pale shade.Pity the factory workers now who have to wear those ugly nets. This morning I made a scarf with fabric 30" x 30" and remembered how to tie it. So handy for some deep cleaning in the kitchen!! This is a nice easy to watch and listen video, well done Retro Chick.
Thank you for the simple straightforward tutorial. The American ones seem to have to include a lot of talking about themselves and taking too much time to get to the point. I appreciate your help. Thank you. 🙃✌️😈
I've always loved the 40's look. I just dressed up as Rosie the Riveter for Halloween. I struggled to make the scarf work. I was using fabric that was too big, but it worked. At the end of the night, I loved how it had made my very curly, short hair look. This video was very helpful. Thanks!
this is such an easy to follow tutorial thanks! I've got a wedding tomorrow and want to do a wet set, but also have a play rehearsal tonight. now i don't have to worry about rocking up looking like a hedgehog with a head full of curl clips LOL
I think I found my new fav headscarf tutorial. Some other headscarf ones end up sticking out too much for my personal taste. I think this one is one of the better looking ones. Thanks!
Finally! Thanks you so much for demonstrating this technique, so simple it wasn't obvious, to me at least. I was beginning to think one needed an engineering degree. You look so lovely!
What are the best dimensions for a scarf? I have 2 square silk scarves, 1 doesn’t cut it length-wise ( maybe i have a massive head since ppl these days are so much bigger), the other scarf is very thin & hand painted, like tissue paper & has a rip... so what is the ideal size & silk type for this exercise?
Thank you so much for your video ! I've always been obsessed with this kind of hairstyle and I recently started watching Land Girls on Netflix and I've grown even more obsessed ! I'm ready to try it tomorrow now ! Thank you again !
You’re right! She’s quite simply states and shows the steps. No blabbering on and on about one hundred things that make no difference. Bing, bang, boom. done.
I'm on a huge time crunch to get my question answered so it would be great if I had an answer back today. What is the size of scarf that you used in this video? Your tutorial is the best one I've seen. Don't want to sound rude but it's part of a birthday gift in two days time! Thanks very much
thnx, I have my hair braided in a beehive for wigs and I didn't wrap my hair last night, because I couldn't find me large silk scarf, and I woke up to a MESS so I needed to make do with a bandana, and if u fold it in half but make one corner meet about a 3rd in, then u can do this same wrap perfectly
I don't know if my scarf is not big enough or what, but for the life of my I cannot bring up the sides to tie it and still have enough scarf to comfortably sit around my head. The whole scarf seems to come up!
Twisting the little floppy bit at the front = genius. My little floppy bit sometimes falls out (oo err) and makes the scarf untidy.I will be sure to twist next time!
Hi, saw a photo of Clementine Churchill wearing this style of head covering. She was indicating solidarity with the working women of UK during the Second World War.... and was popular for that and many other reasons. Think I have to copy it.
I have the same issue! I purchased a truckload of scarves, different shapes, materials and sizes. I cannot figure out why it slips out. I have very fine hair. I wonder if this has anything to do with my issues.
+Belinda Jayne if you pin it at the back and sides it will help keep the scarf in place while you tie it. It might be that the scarf is too small, or you are trying to tie it too far back, it's best to tie it low over your forehead, you can adjust it back once it's tied.

How cute! I've been wanting to try this 40's style--my *favorite* era for fashion. Thanks for this!

Love it, I've taken to wearing a headscarf when doing housework, who'd have thought the Hilda Ogden look would be so popular?
This was the best, most concise video tutorial for something simple and cute. Thank you so much.
This tutorial is exactly what I was looking for - the instructions were simple and clear, and I love the result! Thanks so much for posting 😊❤

Thank you! Love your headscarf
I enjoyed this. Thanks for all the tips too..
Thanks ....I love that you call bobby pins grips ...very simple thanks.
Very nice ,width & Length of fabric required??
If you have a smaller scarf you can use the same technique just tuck the back corner up so you don't have a scarf mullet

Love the 40's soo much gonna try it soon
Just the vid i needed!! Need to cover my brightly coloured hair for work & a function.

Also, I really like the way you talk!
Bobby pins !
You look like youre from 1940 legit even with out the scarf or makeup. Very clasic looking.😘
Just what I was looking for! How big should the scarf be?
I don't know if my scarf is not big enough or what, but for the life of my I cannot bring up the sides to tie it and still have enough scarf to comfortably sit around my head. The whole scarf seems to come up!
Actually looks cute
I love this! Did they used to have a name for that style?
Twisting the little floppy bit at the front = genius. My little floppy bit sometimes falls out (oo err) and makes the scarf untidy.I will be sure to twist next time!
Thankyou! Wondered how to do this for ages!
Thanks, great tutorial! How big scarf do you have? I think the ones I have are too small o_0
Great video! Thankyou!

Thank you so much! I actually tried to do this to keep my hair from messing up at night so the curls will stay
What size scarf did you use? Or what are the dimensions of it?
+Emily Timberlake most of my scarves are at least 22" along a side, not sure about this one exactly!
Nice explaining. Thank you.
Big help! Thank you so much. Cracked it on the first go.
I can't see all of what she doing in the beginning of the video. Needs a bigger angle. Otherwise, great video! Beautiful scarf as well.
Adorable.
Thank you very much
LOVE IT!! Well done.
Love this
Thank you!
How lovely! You're very pleasant :)
Hi there. What size is the scarf? Thank you xx

How big should the scarf be?
What size scarf did you use in the video?

Do you know a website that offers cute scarves?
THANK YOU!!’
Love it
cute - thanks!
what size scarf is that?
Roxi Tice I can't find that exact scarf to measure now, but most of my scarves are about 22" along a side.
use ur mouth as ur 3rd hand to hold the middle point still
go girl guides go girl scouts!
if you wear a net under it the scarf slips less
😍😍😍 Thank u!!
I've tried this so many times and it never turns out this way. I've no idea what I'm doing wrong. 😩
+Oh Crumpets what problems are you having? Maybe I can give some tips?
+Oh Crumpets is the scarf the right size? How does it look different?
I have the same issue! I purchased a truckload of scarves, different shapes, materials and sizes. I cannot figure out why it slips out. I have very fine hair. I wonder if this has anything to do with my issues.
Kiki Cherry See, I have long, incredibly thick hair.
Retro Chick I just saw this, I'm sorry! The scarf seems to be the same size. There are just weird bits sticking out in places.
My mom can put hers on In 2minutes !
is how i do it
Every time I tie the knot it just slips right off my head. :/
+Belinda Jayne if you pin it at the back and sides it will help keep the scarf in place while you tie it.
It might be that the scarf is too small, or you are trying to tie it too far back, it's best to tie it low over your forehead, you can adjust it back once it's tied.
Thank you!
Thank you so much
