Here are some extra tips to help you remember some of these matchups more easily: - Dragon resists the 4 types that belong to the 4 Starters: Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Pikachu - Dragon is weak to Ice because dragons are reptiles which can't stand cold climates, this is also why they aren't bothered by Fire because they enjoy that type of climate - In japanese the Dark Type is called the Evil Type, so the Fighting Type is kind of the Superhero/Good Guy Type, hence why it is super effective and resistant to Dark/Evil. - Fairies in myths are mostly associated with forests and since a Fire can burn a forest down, Fairies can't do much against the Fire, since it is an unstoppable force of nature, which they belong to (Why isn't this a weakness then instead of a resistance? We'll never know...) - Ghost resists Poison cause you can't poison something that is intangible - Another way you can remember Poison being strong against Fairy is because in the famous fairytale "Snow White" a poisonous apple is what kills her - Steel on the other hand is strong against Fairy because again in fairytales Steel represents swords and other weapons, which are very powerful (like the sword that killed Maleficent) - As for Steels resistances aside from Normal, Bugs can't bite through Steel plating or objects, Grass is mostly cut by Steel-like objects like hedge clippers, but Dragon on the other hand is resisted because in Fairytales and myths Dragons are usually slain with a sword which is a weapon of pure Steel - Water resists Steel because Steel objects are mostly heavy and therefore sink in Water - And lastly Psychic is strong against Poison because it is believed that you can cure yourself of a disease or illness through meditation
Comin late, but I want to add to this. In many legends (and games like D&D), fairies are weak to a substance called Cold Steel. Anything made of Cold Steel will hurt fairies more than even regular steel. Thus, why fairies are weak to Steel. Also, the logic behind why fire is resistant to fairy (because it's resistant to grass and fairies live in the forest) can also explain why fairies are weak to poison. If you poison the forest, the fairies have no place to live. I also think about the scene in the movie Labyrinth where Sarah encounters a fairy and Hoggle sprays the fairy with poison to kill it as if it's a bug.
Missed out on triple resistance which tbh is only a Pokemon GO thing since they combine the resistance on dual types which one shares a resistance and double resistance to a single type. Pokemon like Garchomp, Excadrill, Bisharp, Torterra, Steelix, Gengar and probably more all have triple resistances.
No, in an interview pokemon company explain dragon typing is weak against ice because dragons are like dinasour and most of dinasour got extinct on ice Age that's why dragons are weak against ice
The wierd thing about PoGo is that they've swapped immunities with double resistance. For example Swampert being Water/Ground in regular games is immune to Electric. But here in PoGo its now Single resistant to Electric because one of its 2 resistances gets cancelled by Water's weakness to Electric and hence 2-1=1 i.e. Swampert now single resists Electric i.e. x0.6 damage
A really useful thing to remember Psychic type matchups, is that the most common fears are darkness, ghosts and bugs. Here's some other ones: Dragon type loses to steel because im fairytales, usually the dragon is slain by the hero's sword. Fighting is strong against dark because dark represents cheap or underhanded fighting tactics, so martial arts will always beat those.
Funny but I was complaining to my dog about how I suck at PvP and that I don't understand the rules of resisting and supper effectiveness. Then the next day BAAAAMMM new video explaining everything. Life is funny .Btw my dog is a really good listener and responds sometimes.
The way I imagine how Steel is effective against fairy. Is when I saw some movies where fairies were hurt, burnt or their power were reduced by silver objects. Or do I think about vampires?
Been studying types lately and I’ve been playing on and off (mostly off) since Pokémon red on game boy! It’s just so confusing to me. I came here because Daxi is the goat and is great at explaining things. Hopefully I have it down by the end of the year
Ghost double resists poison because ghosts can’t be poisoned since they’ve already died. Fairy resists bug since fairies usually use bugs as tools as humans do horses. Fire can symbolize evil so fairy being good can go ahead and destroy the evil.
I saw in a different video about a great way to remember why dark is super effective against psychic. It goes something like "Psychic Pokémon can't read dark-type mons thoughts because they are so twisted and chaotic. So it makes it impossible for them to understand what they are thinking"
before anyone asks, there is no type in the game that is double resisted by two types, therefore, while theoretically possible, there is no combination that quadruple resists a type.
Took me three whole months to fully memorise everything. It’s better to leave it to experience instead of trying to take it in all at once imo. The competitive player’s pain… Edit: Some stuff are pretty easy, like water and fire or fire and ice. Others you have to find interesting ways to remember. One way someone once taught me was psychic types. The mind is usually afraid of the dark, ghosts and bugs so there you have it
1. Psychic Is weak against 3 of the most common fears Ghost Bug Dark 2. Fairies are strong against Bug because both are small but the one with magical powers is most likely to win 3. Fire is good against Fairy because Fairies associate a lot with life and earth and fire obviously cause Wildfires that burn life 4. Ghost resist Poison because… you can’t really poison a dead person 5. Ice is Strong against Dragon because Dragon’s are reptiles that are cold blooded 6. Psychics Can manipulate their brain into not being effected by sicknesses rendering Poison useless
The way I imagine how Psychic is effective against poison. Is when I saw some movies where healers removed poison out of bodies of their patients. I think the healers used telekinesis or chakra.
I like to remember the Psychic- and Poison-type matchups to that Stranger Things scene, where 11 pull out that parasyte from inside her leg with her mind powers.
You can Remember like this : Fiary resists bug cuz fairys ARE sort of bugs . They have wings and antennas and everything . So maybe they resist their own kind
5:54, My guess on why ghost is resistant towards poison, is usually poison are poisonous towards alive creatures, ghosts are already "dead", thus can't do much, i.e. can't "poison them to death"
its always so weird to me that some pokemon canonically die. Every time there's a pokemon that gains the ghost type upon evolution it's implied that it died. the fact that they did this with a starter is particularly mind boggling
I think fairy is resistant to bugs because there's some movies where fairy characters accompanied by bugs or use the nature itself. So that's why I think it is
8:48 because poison was related to fatal diseases, and psychic was related to willpower. Apparently people have a much higher chance to survive diseases if they have the will to live.
Steel used to also resist dark and ghost types but it was removed to balance the video games. It happen when Gen 6 introduced Fairy type so before Pokemon Go. This throws people off if their mindset is still around Gen2 and Gen3
The trick to remembering the dragon type resistance is it's the 4 gen starter elements. Bulbasaur (Grass), Squirtal (Water), Charmander (Fire), Pikachu (Electric)
Ghost resist poisen because they are dead and poisen affects living tissue. Bug resist fairy because u know girls usually hate bugs Gf made fire resist fairy for balance.
My thoughts on why ice is so effective on dragon types (7:09 in the video): Dragons are kind of like big reptiles, which are cold blooded. Reptiles need the warmth of their surroundings to be active (just like sunbathing crocodiles or iguanas). So, if a dragon's surroundings is colder (due to an ice-type), it's much less active (and thus weakened), witch makes ice-types super effective on dragon-types.
I feel like fighting should do superefective to bugs bc fighters can squish bugs ez and also why is poison not effective on normal types like normal ppl die to poison right and i also feel like dragons should be super effective on every type
Just wow! I'm going to rewatch this for sure! Seems like steel types would be a good choice for battles against most other types.Great video! Thank you! 👍
Steel has so many resistances because just the idea it’s super strong and stuff like ice or rock if you throw ice or a rock at steel the ice or rock would just break on it
Just have a few more questions I hope someone can answer: - Charizard (Fire) uses a Water attack on another Charizard. I assume this would make the water-move "super effective", as Water is super effective against Fire. So this would imply that the original typing of the attacking pokemon is irrelevant, as the effectiveness of the MOVE itself is the only thing that matters. - If the above is correct (namely that the attack-move-type + defending-pokemon-type are the only two parameters to decide how good the attack move will be), why are normal type pokemon so worthless? Having a normal-type pokemon (like Lickitung) with a ghost-type attack, wouldn't that make this specific pokemon super effective against a Psychic pokemon like Mewtwo? I understand there are better options like a full-ghost type pokemon that has both Fast attack & Charge attack as ghost-type, but if we're just focussing on the charge attack, why are normal pokemon with other attack-move-typing cast aside?
Didn’t see this example in the comments or video but if you have a dual type like charizard, and use a ground move, the damage done is 2x resisted even though ground is super effective against fire. This is because in the main games, double resists are immune to the moves so flying immune to ground type trumps grounds super effect to fire. Took me a minute to realize this coming from the main games but it’s a must know for those rare cases.
Another thing to note is that some dual typings end up resisting some move types.. For example, Talonflame is Fire/Flying.. Its Fire typing is weak against Ground moves, but its Flying typing "double-resists" Ground moves.. Thus, it still "single-resists" (or simply, resists) Ground moves.. Other examples are Swampert (Water/Ground) against Electric moves, and Sableye (Dark/Ghost) against Fighting moves.. Just sharing..
Real quick: In the event of a Pokémon that is two types eg: Flying+Rock If a move is resisted by one and super effective by the other it is neutral (Ice is super against flying and resisted by rock), however if ONE resists the move and the other is neutral (Normal is resisted by rock and neutral to flying) the move is resisted. This works too with super effective (one resisting one weak= neutral, one neutral one super effective = 1.6x)
Dax! Love the videos man. Could you maybe do a vid on all of the current shinies available in game? I listen to you while I work so I’d rather get the info from you and it could be a cool video. Just a thought. Thanks man!
The way I imagine how Ice is effective against Grass is that experiment in physics or chemics where you put a rose into fluid nitrogen or oxygen. When you take it out and slam it on something it breaks into shards. Remembers me of a very cold Ice Age.
Hey great video thanks man Fun fact: If you are meditating and experiencing negative thoughts then that means the meditation is working and you shouldn't suppress them. Better out than in
Another reason for Dark to be weak to Bug is the fact criminals are more prevalent in the dark, and when they least suspect it, bugs will come at them. Ghost is weak to Dark because Dark is a metaphor of bad, and evil can corrupt the soul. Since steel conducts electricity very well, and the logic behind Water being weak to Electric is that water conducts electricity, then Steel should be weak to Electric. Also, lightning can easily strike anything made of metal. The reason Fighting is weak to Fairy is also because what good would it be to physically fight a fae creature when they could just fight back with magic? The logic behind Ghost resisting Bug and Poison is because for the former, while bugs can eat corpses, they can't eat their souls, and for the latter, you can't poison anyone who's already dead. The reason Dragon is weak to Ice is because cold temperatures are no good for reptiles which are cold-blooded. Because herbicides explain why Grass is weak to Poison, you might also think Bug would be weak to Poison because of insecticides. That was the case in Generation I, but not anymore. Poison is weak to Psychic because the mind is useful for thinking up antivenoms and all kinds of medicines to cure or treat illnesses, and figuring out what's poisonous, and sometimes overpowering the poisonous creatures.
Fighting is strong against dark cuz some fighting tactics use blindfolds. Edit: Psychic is strong agaisnt fighting cuz brains beat brawn, Steel is strong against fairy cuz fairies symbolize nature and steel involves manufacturing which destroys it. Been playing pokemon for a long time. Edit Edit: Double super effective is also called quad effective
actually disagree with fighting rationale. Pokemon comes from Japan with a rich culture of honorably fighting and Samurai etc. Fighting types are seen as the pure and noble beings which rekt darkness
Fighting is strong against Dark for good vs evil concept where the good uses battling techniques to destroy the evil creatures/villains in classic superhero stories and things like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, and Wario Land series.
Actually there are *TRIPLE* resists. it deals 0.24 damage For example, When a Discharge hits a regular stunfisk, It deals Literally no damage because Normal Stunfisk Triple resists Electric types.
they definitely should have made steel types super effective against themselves, it makes sense why it resists so many, but it would also make sense for it to be super effective against itself
I remember the type matchups because i split the types in groups, the elemental types, mystical types (dragon, fairy, dark, etc) and realistic types (normal, flying, fighting, etc) and when other types clash like electric and flying, i just know those because i have been playing pokemon my whole life
in my head i split them into elemental, mineral, animal and fantasy. and then there's poison which doesn't fit into anything poison is such a weird type
My way of remembering psychic type moves are super effective against fighting is that brain always wins over physical power and aggression and against poison because poisoning can be cured by psychic powers.
Flying super effective to Fighting because when someone airborne like superheroes collide with the targetted opponent on the ground then the target would be fall or thrown as if a Superman soars then touches the enemy standing on the ground or while John Cena, Bruce Lee, Jet Li, a Karate Kid, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, VR Troopers, Spiderman etc using a flying jump kick against the target standing on the ground.
Poison basically destroys cell's machinery or the proper cell. Since a ghost doesn't have matter, only "plasma" or "astral bodies" or whatever like that, poison cannot affect ghosts. That's what I thought.
For fairies and why they are super effective against dragons. It's because they are both users of arcane magic. Dragons use the pure raw magic of the universe and fairies use the same but more of a controlled form. Hope that helps. They are super effective against fighting type Pokémon b/c they use their magic to stop the fighting-types from wanting to fight at all, basically pacifying them.
If you want to remember why Fairy resists Bug, I've always thought about it as-well, you put two small creatures up against each other, the one that doesn't have magic probably won't do so well. As for why steel resists so many things, it's because steel is very hard and resistant and strong.
Fairies in stories often live in the forests similar to bugs.. living in tree and flowers I imagine that’s why they are resistant to bugs since they live in the same environment. And ghost resist poison because… how are you gonna poison a ghost?
This was the most important video for all pokemon go players like me who have problems in remembering this damage and super effective things 🤪 Thanks POKEDEXI🙏😍
Psychic type are effective from poison type because poisons are combined form of small atoms and psychic type can control things and so that they can control elements of chemicals and poisons
The weaknesses of psychic types, represents base fears of humans: the fear of Darkness, Ghosts and bugs
Yeh and fighters are afraid of flying
@@Nz_Miz No, it’s super effective Because fighting likes face to face combat while flying well… can fly therefore has a clear advantage.

Rock is super effective against flying because of the saying “two birds, one stone”.
Didn’t see this example in the comments or video but if you have a dual type like charizard, and use a ground move, the damage done is 2x resisted even though ground is super effective against fire. If a move is resisted by one and super effective by the other it is neutral (Ice is super against flying and resisted by rock),
however if ONE resists the move and the other is neutral (Normal is resisted by rock and neutral to flying) the move is resisted.
This works too with super effective (one resisting one weak= neutral, one neutral one super effective = 1.6x)

actually disagree with fighting rationale.
He explains even the basic to basic things so well
A very needed video thx for making this:
PS:throw back to when I thought mamoswine was not weak to steel
Great Video. Thank you so much for doing.
Will there a video in the future on best or top 3 -5 -10 Pokémon for PVP for each type?
Thanks
Actually there are *TRIPLE* resists. it deals 0.24 damage
For example, When a Discharge hits a regular stunfisk, It deals Literally no damage because Normal Stunfisk Triple resists Electric types.
what dragon resists is easily remembered by the 4 starters in kanto
they definitely should have made steel types super effective against themselves, it makes sense why it resists so many, but it would also make sense for it to be super effective against itself
Great analysis bro, thank you very much!!!
5:44 - Ghosts are resistant to poison cause they're already dead and poison can only affect living flesh.
This video was very much help full I was waiting for such a video.Thank you so much.A fan from India❤
5:53 Ghost resist poison because if a human drinks poison he die and become Ghost and Ghost cannot die by drinking poison. So it resist poison
Yes! I needed this video. Thank you. I keep using the wrong Pokemon in pvp.
Always remember to bring Dialga instead of Pachirisu to a Lugia Raid!
thanks man
i needed this
Ive been playing pokemon for years and im still not sure about these, thanks daxi! 😅
I remember the type matchups because i split the types in groups, the elemental types, mystical types (dragon, fairy, dark, etc) and realistic types (normal, flying, fighting, etc) and when other types clash like electric and flying, i just know those because i have been playing pokemon my whole life
in my head i split them into elemental, mineral, animal and fantasy.
and then there's poison which doesn't fit into anything
poison is such a weird type
"There's not much a rock can do about the ground." Man if those aren't words of wisdom, idk what is... Wise dax... So very wise.
I’ve heard someone say that fire is resistant to fairies because fairies is in often in a nature/grass type of place
Thank you for the flying type grunt I needed this
3:48 bro 😂🤣
My way of remembering psychic type moves are super effective against fighting is that brain always wins over physical power and aggression and against poison because poisoning can be cured by psychic powers.
I think psychic is resistant to poision because the people(with psychic powers) can heal themselves using psychic powers
Same as the fire because fire will burn feiry wings
Flying super effective to Fighting because when someone airborne like superheroes collide with the targetted opponent on the ground then the target would be fall or thrown as if a Superman soars then touches the enemy standing on the ground or while John Cena, Bruce Lee, Jet Li, a Karate Kid, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, VR Troopers, Spiderman etc using a flying jump kick against the target standing on the ground.
you cant poison a ghost, because its already dead
Fairy is resistant to bug because small things gotta stick together to achieve great things. And tinkerbell always looked like a lightning bug
Great video 🤩👍. A video suggestion for the future could be the best gym defenders to keep and use
I first watched mandjtv’s videos on this a few years ago
If you want to remember why Fairy resists Bug, I've always thought about it as-well, you put two small creatures up against each other, the one that doesn't have magic probably won't do so well.
As for why steel resists so many things, it's because steel is very hard and resistant and strong.
Fairies in stories often live in the forests similar to bugs.. living in tree and flowers I imagine that’s why they are resistant to bugs since they live in the same environment. And ghost resist poison because… how are you gonna poison a ghost?
05:37 bug with the question marks over his head😂😂
Changelings are Fairies with PTSD ,or they are
Fairies with ASPD . Dark Pokémon are Changelings . This is how I remember it.
This was the most important video for all pokemon go players like me who have problems in remembering this damage and super effective things 🤪
Thanks POKEDEXI🙏😍
Needed this sooo bad thx bro loving the content❤️✨🔥
Psychic type are effective from poison type because poisons are combined form of small atoms and psychic type can control things and so that they can control elements of chemicals and poisons
THIS IS THE VIDEO I AM WAITING FOR🎉🎉✨
