- Ever wanted to transform that tired old tired back splash in your kitchen, or paint your floor tiles with a new look? It's easy to achieve using Fusion Mineral Paint. Let us walk you through step by step how to paint your tile or backsplash with Fusion Mineral Paint!
Here are the tools that we recommend for painting your tile or backsplash with Fusion Mineral Paint:
- a Staalmeester Flat 2" paint brush
- Fusion TSP
- Fusion Ultra Grip
- Your fave Fusion paint color
To start, clean the area to be painted really well. Kitchens are notorious for grease buildup, so you want to make sure you remove all of that. Fusion's biodegradable TSP is the perfect product to use.
Next, apply a very thin coat of Ultra Grip. This will make the impossible possible and allow you to paint your tile or backsplash with Fusion Mineral Paint!
Let the Ultra Grip dry for about 12 hours.
Now you can paint! If you need two coats, leave about 4-6 hours between so that the paint can really dry.
We also recommend considering a top coat, such as Tough Coat, for areas that see a lot of wear and tear.

Thank you so very much!! Very well explained!!!
Thank you Jenny, is nice to see you girl! We are dabbling with the idea of painting tiles in our new home that is covered with Travertine.
That's exciting!!! Travertine may be difficult to paint for adhesion depending if it is glossy, if it isn't it should be just fine :) Ultra Grip works well to adhere to glossy surfaces though :)
will ultra grip enable paint over silicone caulking? Just wondering as I remove the silicone off the edges of my tile and worried i wont get it all off.
Is is possible to use this process to paint a fireplace surround? I am concerned with the heat.
Can you paint the grout as well?
What about for rough tiles that have a lot of texture? Can you still attempt a project like this?
How do you protect the grout lines ?
What can I add to the Raw Silk color to get a Mother of Pearl look for my back splash
Can you show us the finished product after the DIY work? Also demo a small project in real world application? Like show a small area of a kitchen/bathroom being done from start to finish so we can better visualize this. Thanks!
Hey! We don't often have real-world applications to video, but you can check out lots of examples at facebook.com/groups/PaintItBeautiful/ !
Can I paint grip tile?
After each layer is dry, can you hold up the tile so we can actually see what it looks like. Thanks
Rebecca Chappelear good idea. I keep commenting on using an overhead camera in her videos and to show upclose what she’s working on but it’s gone on deaf ears.
@@jafallica Hi there - it has not gone on deaf ears I promise! This is one of two newer videos we have posted - all of the other ones are at least a year old and we are still learning as we do videos. They are done in batches so all criticism is used in the next batch of videos - unfortunately we are unable to tape one video at a time and we can't change the videos that are already uploaded.
can this process be used on bathroom type shiny tiles (yes just like what was in the bathroom near by) We have a sealed fireplace insert so no open fire. Thanks! Love your videos!
Yes, absolutely
We have rental houses. In one of them the tile is beautiful, but the grout is NOT. We've tried cleaning and it doesn't work. Since grout is porous, I'm sure it would be more difficult to clean than tile.I realize it would take a lot of patience, but could it be used just on the grout? Also, can your paint to dyed to match a specific color?
That would be quite an experiment - I'm sure with due diligence and patience it could work.
Kitchen backsplash - If I am using brushed steel metallic - what would I use for topcoat? I hear that the tough coat has a hazy finish over darker colors?
If applied too thick, it can haze, I would actually reccomend the Tough Coat Gloss, it rarely will haze and it will keep your metallic looking really gorgeous! It will increase the sheen and glimmer.
If I wanted to paint and tough coat the tiles in my bathroom, am I limited with regards to what product I can use to clean it afterwards?
Gentle cleaning with standard soap and water should be all that's necessary. Harsh chemical cleaners may eventually have more of a wear and tear effect.
Hi there, What do you do about the grout? You should stand the product up so we can see how it looks.
you can paint over the grout :)
Do you need ultra grip on really porous tile without sheen?
Most likely not.
Could this be used for a kitchen counter top / worktop too?
The Backyard Vegan yes it can ! But don’t let water sit on it for too long!
Yes but don’t let the water sit on it for too long
I’m planning on using the paint on a backsplash but it will be near a heat source, behind the gas ring cooker, will it take take the heat or not? Thanks
IT is not technically a heat rated paint, it depends how close it will be. Better safe than sorry.
Fusion Mineral Paint thank you for the info, great paint though !
I notice you POUR the ultra grip on but my splashback is actually VERTICAL being stuck to the wall? How do I apply it then?
You can paint it on or roll it on :)
Can I use the ultra grip and mineral paint on the tile walls of a shower
We do not recommend it for use in the shower cubicle. Countertop tiles and even floors are good.
Can I do this on my laminate floors in my family room but I'm the only one that uses the room
Yes you can! We do recommend an extra top coat - either our Tough Coat or SFO :)
Can fusion go over marble with using ultra grip?
No we don't reccomend this.
What do you need to clean the brush with after using this?
Soap and water.
Can you use a small paint roller?
Yes indeed! We reccomend . fusionmineralpaint.com/products/accessories/microfiber-rollers-paint-trays/
Can you paint this on glass kitchen tiles? Backsplash?
Yes absolutely you can!
What wood stain color on your back?
No stain - that's the wood as is.
Can we use the same product to paint the kitchen cabinets????
We have lots of blogs and some video here on our channel, all about painting kitchen cabinetry. Try this one :) fusionmineralpaint.com/pro-top-tips-for-painting-kitchen-cabinets/
Can you please do close ups so your audience can see the finished steps. This would be a big help of what to expect.
Definitely!!
My backsplash is about 50 years old. I rent, so, ripping it out isn’t an option. The grout is very porous, the tiles are 1” squares. Therefore, a lot of porous grout. Is that a problem, or, can I follow your tutorial as is?
You can absolutely paint right over the grout!
Would this work on porcelain tile
Yep!
Can this be used on terracotta?
yes absolutely!
Can I use this same technique on a bathroom vanity counter top?
Yes you can !
These products are hard to find in stores
We have over 1500 locations worldwide and hundreads of online retailers happy to ship to you. please visit. Https://fusionmineralpaint.com/where-to-buy/
how about a fusion GLOSS TOPCOAT? something that has a clear like glass appearance?
We JUST launched this product! It's in stores now! There is a tutorial coming out soon !
Do you paint the grout?
That's definitely a personal choice - it can be difficult to avoid but it may also be a pain to get it all painted!
You can yes !
how might one deal with the grout lines?
You can paint over them
Humm, i would not use this because i can't see it.
