I feel like everyone that thinks the 8 string is better has never played in a live setting. That 6 string cuts through the mix soooo good. If I'm going low, I'm using a baritone to get that clarity.

I definitely have to say the 8 string sounds better, I just like metal to be heavier and heavier, I myself just recently got an Ibanez RG 8 String and I love it

Both are great. However, sometimes I like the little bit more bite from the 6 string while other times the 8 string gives you that much needed extra bass range which the six string lacks.
