Really awesome and informative video. Watching this and listening to you changed my entire plan of how I'm putting my rain barrel system in. Thank you.
Aaron, thank you, I am pleased you found the video helpful. You can check out my video on my water pump and how I use it to pump water from rain barrel to the storage barrels.
Good question. If you watch the video, 2 minutes into the video I explain how I pump the water into the barrels or how you would connect to a rain gutter. I hope that helps.
Thank you fore the video. Working on our first project. I was wondering once everything is set up. How do you clean out an sludge or build up in bottom of barrels?
Seth, thank you, that is a great question. Because the rainwater going into my barrels is from a catchment barrel with two filters, so far it has not been an issue. Plus, the water is filtered again when it is pumped over to the four blue barrels. However, I push fitted all the white PVC fittings so each barrel can be detached for cleaning or moving. There is not a lot of pressure, so the fittings have never leaked. I hope this helps. Best regards John
Hi, yes, I think a manifold is a good idea. I would have made a manifold for my system, but I wanted it to be easy to take apart and move. If you do not have much pressure, make sure the barrel is vented, also, pressure is going to be affected by the height of the faucet from the ground. I only use mine with a pump, so I have not had a pressure problem. You can watch my UA-cam video on my pump setup. I hope this helps.
Great video! I’m gathering the parts at Home Depot and trying to find parts for connecting the ball valve to 2” PVC. Do you have part #’s for these connections? Thanks
Thanks for sharing. I think I am going to have my barrels setup your way too! It's very simple compared to others. Question: what's the smaller pipes in the back for again? If for overflow why does it need to go up so high and why not connect them from the side of the barrels?
Sai, that is a good question. The small pipes at the back serve two purposes, firstly and mainly they act as vents for removing the air inside the barrels when the barrels are being filled with water and only secondly as an overflow, so I decided to make sure the vent pipes were above the inlet pipes. I hope that makes sense.
Your video is the most simple and easy to understand procedure how to connect these barrels. Would you be so kind enough to to send me the itemized and specific materials i need to assemble all my barrels. Thanks.
Hi Armando, thank you for your kind comments. Yes, I do have a full list of all the materials I used to build the system. If you click on “show more” under the video, you will find the complete list and quantities of all the items. I hope this helps, please let me know. John
Good question, I have a rain barrel that collects water from the roof, and I pump it over to the four barrels. You can watch my video “Rain Barrel Pump.” That explains the process. ua-cam.com/video/z5AjzbBSdAc/v-deo.html
Why did you join the vents together and make them so high? Is that another thing that California made a law about for collecting rain water in plastic barrels?
Hi Barry, I do not think it matters how high the vents are as long as they are above the intake, or if you join them together. For me joining them together with a single vent / outlet, acts as a simple overflow point. I am moving from California, so all my barrels are for sale.
hi, this video is absolutely wonderful. you answered all the mystery questions I had and is the only video out there that shows the set up I wanted to do but couldn’t figure out. Thank you! Excellent instructions. Is there a name for the metal piece you got from Home Depot that makes thread in barrel hole? Again thank you so much for making this video! i liked subscribed and hit notification for all your videos. Can’t wait to watch them all.
Hi Elizabeth, thank you for the kind comments about the video and for supporting my channel. The piece I used to re-cut the holes was a 2 in. Galvanized Black Iron MPT Plug Fitting that I purchased from Home Depot. It was not easy, but the only thing I found that would do the job. I also have a video on the way I pump water from a catchment barrel to these four barrels, that may or may not be of interest to you. I hope you have fun with your project and would love to hear how it turns out. Kind regards John
Finally, a rational discussion of a system I can use!! Thanks for the lucid and practical descriptions.
Thank you Phyl, This has been a great project and successful water storage system. I hope yours works great too.

Buena idea, nunca había visto una estructura de blocks para los estañones de agua y veo que es una excelente idea, gracias
Gracias, no hablo español, pero agradezco su interés en mi sistema de barril de lluvia.
LOVE the string and nut method!
Thank you, it makes the process of adding the spigot supper easy.
Thank you for sharing. Would you be able to post a supply list for all your parts? Also what size of drill bit did you use to make the spigot holes?
Hi, I just added in the description the list of items I used, I hope this helps.
hw does the water get into the barrels when you hve the manaful stylel set up no opening to the barrels?

@@BrightSparkIdeas Thank you for answering my question. Huge help!
I dont seem to have very much water pressure coming from a single barrel. Would it not be better to have a manifold?

Hi Dean, no part numbers, but if you look at the description below the video by tapping more, I listed all the parts I used. I hope this helps.

How do you keep it from freezing in the winter?
The benefit of living in California, no issue with freezing.

Hi sir good video I going to do my colección rain water system the same way thank you for the video God bless you
Thank you, I hope you get more rain than I did, hoping for a wet winter ;-)
Well how do you get the water in there?🤔🤔
