To be honest unless it's some sort of sinister takeover of Bloodraven/the Weirwood consciousness, revealing perhaps that even the invasion of the Others was some power play or revenge plot of a faction of the Children of the Forest, I just don't see Bran becoming king. Let's not forget that Tyrion and Arya were supposed to have a romance in early drafts of ASOIAF. And that sure as hell is not happening. Therefore it is simply not guaranteed Bran will be king. It's likely GRRM thought of that plotline at the latest, 10 years ago. And he changes his mind all the time, given his style of writing as a 'gardener'.
But D&D saw it in his notes so just did it without thinking and chose to hold it up as a shield since they did not set up that storyline in any way whatsoever.

really dont like the demonizing of Tyrion and the emphasis in him being a "Horrible person now". Its just exaggerated, and feels a bit like pushing social norms and peer pressuring through a character analysis. I don't know, hes a pretty nice dwarf all considered, and his "imp" characteristics are based on will force, he would not be interesting at all if he was just taking shit and endlessly trying to always do the right thing in a very sheepish way, actually that would've been anoying and not realistic at all, just idealistic bullshit.

      Quoting another discussion
"Why is it so important for you, Stannis's Lawyer, and for some other posters, that Tyrion UNDENIABLY committed an act that can be called "rape"?
Do you think it helps us to understand the fictional character of Tyrion better if we put a label on it?
Or is it a political fight with a fictional character as proxy about a very really existing horror in our world? So it is a political offense to you and no longer a literature debate if someone does not share your opinion?
Yes, indeed nine out of ten encounters including paid sex and prostitution.are sexual abuse, sexual slavery, sexual violence, name it whatever you want. I am not discussing the very well existing case where men or women work as prostitutes because they wish to since they can pay their university fees with four days of work a month instead of 30 days a month and failing the exam. Yes, there is the free decision to be a sex worker and it is a job we should respect like any other job. But this decision is rare, most sex "work" means abuse, and the woman in Selhorys was for sure forced.
But why is the word "rape" so important in the debate? Is it the worst accusation possible to villify a character, worse than murder? Really? It is a highly emotionally loaded word and I often meet the position here that it is worse to rape someone than to kill that person. Being a woman myself I must say this is a position far away from life. While rape is horror, like any torture can be, killing kills people, murder is final, death penalty is final, the victims are gone FOREVER, no way of finding back into life, no future. Please people, be more aware of the value of human life. Milllions of women had to go on struggling after rape, for the sake of their children e. g. But Shae has not that chance to go on and she got never raped by Tyrion.
I think the whole debate if this is to be labelled "rape" is not necessary at all if we leave the wordfighting surface and try to be aware of the author's intentions concerning the role of Tyrion's fictional character.
Martin intended his readers to watch Tyrion do something ugly, something really ugly related to his so very hopeless and damaged sexuality, an act of hatesex, emphasized by him doing it again after he was aware of "having fucked a corpse". An expression of Tyrion's disgust with himself, doing something despicable because he sees himself as having become as despicable as people have always seen him.
The meaning of what GRRM wants to tell us here is so very crystal clear that it is totally pointless if we modern readers label the act "rape" or not. Tyrion knows that he does something dirty and Martin wants us readers to see this. So the sexually abused child becomes an abuser himself as it often happens in Real Life. Martin wanted to bring this complex protagonist down to his lowest point in order to restart the character's story from rock bottom again."

Euron and Dany are going to be on the same side. Remember in the sample chapters Victarion just showed up to meereen to help danys forces in the battle of fire.
There's even a quote in the book about the kraken wedding the dragon. So idk, seems to me they'll join forces. Also the iron fleet is likely how danys forces will invade Westeros.

He plans to betray Euron by claiming Dany and Dragonbinder for himself. But I highly doubt things will go according to his plan. I expect his attempt to bind Dragonbinder to himself will fail, and when he blows the horn it will send the dragon that's bound by it to Euron who's still the horn's true master.

He says to Allisers face that this is all he can do, because if it appeared that the hand was afraid of Grumpkins and Snarks, he would lose authority before the court. Its not like he could have sent an army to go man the wall. Lets be honest here. Part of the reason GRRM has written himself into a corner is he's written a story where life can be sustained in total darkness for decades. Its one thing to write that offhandedlly as just a legend within the story, but to actually (believably) craft a narrative where human society can somehow survive perpetual darkness and winter for years on end is going to prove very challenging without fudging the whole "always night/winter" thing.

In all honesty, unless there is a massive time jump in DoS, and literally every social construct and custom is destroyed by the upcoming new Long Night, I don't think Bran will be king. We forget Bran is only 9 on the books. Maaaybe he's 11-12 by Winds. Even him being a tree wizard, he's still physically a child. Joffrey was 13 and he would have still had a regent for several years.

Possibly but it’s feasible that time travel is being brought in if Hodor is to be considered canon (which I believe it to be) and I think there may be something to at least make Bran appear aged, what I’m interested in is if King Bran is going to be a more terrifying concept than in the show since who knows if Bran may end up becoming a vessel for the old gods or the new three eyed crow or what

@@rcutler9 but what exactly are his powers again? He can access the collective past and present knowledge of the Children while physically connected to the weirwood net (No weirwood groves south of the Neck except at the Isle of Faces, and only a few heart trees in some castles' godswoods). He can warg into creatures (only animals because warging into humans, while rather useful, is very taboo). And he can possibly influence other people's dreams. We know all of this, but how will the people in the story know that? And how would any of that be compelling to the Hightowers, Redwynes, Yronwoods or whatever southern houses are left?
By the end of ASoIaF Bran will no doubt be the most powerful character around, but are his supernatural abilities actually suitable for kingship? Will he be a loyalty-inspiring leader? Will people look up to him for wise counsel and judgement? Or will he shunned and feared as a dark sorcerer just like Bloodraven? We would then have a case of GRRM's own critique of Tolkien: "what was Aragon's tax policy?" What would Bran's kingship actually entail?
I don't know, I honestly think Westerosi society is much to rigid and set in its ways to elect a tree-wizard, physically handicapped child to be Lord Protector of the Seven Kingdoms. That's why my caveat was that only if Westeros is thrown back to the Stone Age by the War and essentially all elements of current Westerosi society crumble

So someone who doesn't have too many enemies can be king as a compromise. He can't have kids so no danger of a dynasty. He probably won't live long so he will be king for maybe 10 years. We can recover and then we'll figure things out again when he dies. That might allow the major houses to accept Bran.

So I noticed another bit of parallel between viserys and viserion. Viserys died from gold being poured into them. Lannisters are known to rule over casterly rock, famous for its gold. Tyrion represents that gold by association. If Tyrion rides viserion then it's like the gold on top of viserys once again.

I personally think that Varys considers Tyrion as a man of 'low cunning.'
Tyrion navigates the political field okay, but when you look at the big picture, what Tyrion did when he had power really didn't amount to much. It was mostly him settling personal grudges and consolidating power.
To Varys, Tyrion is a good person to use - he's more politically savvy and knowledgeable than Eddard, but not nearly as much as someone like Littlefinger.

    • @donjuanmckenzie4897

I swear people's sole takeaway from these books on how to be politically savvy is to just somehow know every secret conspiracy there is, especially one's that have been in the works for decades and nobody else has managed to sus out yet, somehow. Its not realistic to just expect a character like Eddard or Tyrion or Tywin or Kevin to just insinuate themselves into the court and just unfurl everyone's secrets faster than those conspirators can detect them and deal with them.

    In the books, Asha Greyjoy talks about the boy who took her maidenhood, a sailor - probably from volantis - that only knew one word in westerosi: "fUck";
When Tyrion is sailing with Penny and Jorah, the ship's cook is a man who only knows one word in westerosi too (although it is claimed he's from Lys).
So, am I just imagining all this, or that is really a fun "coincidence"? I mean, it was not necessary that those details appeared for nothing... :p

The power of ambiguity is a great point. Especially in major storytelling, stopping at the right time and leaving the audience space to ponder and imagine is often ridiculously better than overly detailed description of everything. It's one of the reasons LotR will remain one of the pillars of writing in perpetuity, providing both the scale and ambition, and wonderful curiosity of lands and times beyond the immediate journey of the Fellowship. Like details of dragons, or Ungoliant, or other lands and continents. And you can also do this with characters, like "Evegeny Onegyn" or "Hero of our time" in Russian literature give us wonderful portraits of broken, cynical people and their struggles in just immediate events or short stories, without explaining every aspect of their journey.

Regarding the hypothesis of Tyrion's being a chimera: in mythology there is a monster that has the same name. At birth Tyrion is said to be a monster, and is occasionally called a monster in ASOIAF, so it is fitting that he is biologically something that in another context is a type of monster. Unless the maesters are far more advanced than we give them credit for, we will never know if Tyrion is a chimera.

    Random thought:
Maybe Tyrion is Ares AND Tywin's some kind of messed up incestual medical mishap? I don't know how that would happen on the actual medical side of things but then again this is GoT so anything is possible. When Joanna and Tywin are married they are also Cousins... So the Lannisters are totally not above engaging in open incest. Ares is also obviously decendant of a long line of incestral family marraige too so I wouldn't even be surprised that literally everyone in Westeros is related down then line somewhere... Like with the Casterly's bacically spawning tons of people through they're OWN long time incestrial family marraiges that went on for hundreds of years before they branched out and started marrying outside the family bloodline and pretty much starts populating the bulk of Westeros... Then the Lannisters come straight out of them like most of the first peoples that made up the beginning of the population of Westeros. So then Ares's family done the same thing for hundreds of years too so yeah, everyone is related somehow no doubt, lol... ok sorry im babbling...
So Ares always wanted Joanna and even says he slept with her before Tywin, and this seems to be true. I'm not going to get into if Cersai and Jayme are really Tywin's kids so lets say when Ares see's Joanna at the Tornie in King's Landing and done something to her... bad. Enough to make Tywin resign as his Hand. I think he could have raped her, and she either doesn't tell Tywin out of fear because she knows she is pregnant by the time they arrive back in Casterly Rock and to cover it up she goes to bed with Tywin immediately to pass the babe off as his. But since this is GoT and she had twins before, what if somehow she got knocked up by both men? She was carrying twins but Tyrion got better off in the womb and basically his twin is like some kind of syameese monsterish thing... thats why Tyrion looks so much like 2 differant people with the dark black/purple eye and the bright green eye and then where he is only a "half-man" while all along he is 2 in one body? and maybe that explains the dark strans of hair he has and the white blonde. I find Tyrion can have almost a split personality sometimes too... And the tale of him being born with both female and male parts and having a tail? Seems like some rumors made into a horrific story that could be true? Maybe either she couldn't give birth to Tyrions twin since it was such a messed up pregnancy from the get-go that when she passed away the other twin was still inside? Still borne? Or maybe Ares made Joanna drink wildfire or she injested it by accident or something like that and Tyrion is Tywins child but Ares had ifected the pregnancy at that Torny either by rape or otherwise... and that why his eye is like wildfire and why he was so messed up looking and was a dwarf and Joanna died in childbirth that way?
WOW. I have went down the rabbit hole lol sorry about that but I was just thinking about that for so long haha anyone kinda get what im saying? Anyone think this is a little too "tinfoil hat-ish" or could there be any weight to my theorie?? Again, sorry for the long post and the spelling and the babbling and jumping from one thing to another I really wanted to just get my idea out there but thats impossible to do for me I guess without my ideas snowballing into a bunch of other stuff :\ ... Thanks!
