Wisteria is really pretty but can be a huge problem if left unchecked. I've been fighting a very old wisteria for a while and still don't have it under control.
What a big job you had in removing the wisteria! You did a fantastic removal job the house, looks so nice now. . My friend loved wisteria until the squirrels started to use it as a roadway into her house/attic. They chewed the wood siding, roof and electrical wires. Then one day we were sitting on her deck, with the wisteria as a covering over the deck, and spiders started coming down on their webs. That was it. She had the wisteria removed!
Wisteria and cordelines.....my favourites. Loved watching you deal with trimming them, and really looking forward to you sorting out the wisteria in the winter when the leaves have dropped, and you can see the wood! I'm sure I'll learn a lot.
i would be worried about that trunk so close to the house! they are very invasive plants. but you do such a great job of everything. well done. love the birds nest. i love it when wild life can safely make homes in our gardens. bless you. 🤗
Good job! Just in time to save that tree it was strangling and that drain pipe was sure to be next on the casualty list, if they had let it go. Whew! I have to cut back my "histeria" two or three times over the summer season just to keep it in check. It doesn't seem to care however ruthless I am, it still produces an abundance of blooms twice a year💕
Nice clean up. Wisteria is a huge problem in US South. I spent several years cutting and digging out the roots of the parasite from property. I hope I never see anther plant in my lifetime. They very destructive.
Oh my goodness ! I live in central Virginia , USA . This is the biggest gardening mistake I ever made ~ planting our native Wisteria years ago , I have been battling this monster for years ! The base of mine does look different , instead of one huge trunk , the stems come right up out of the ground , grow , wrapping themselves around anything & everything ! The roots spread out everywhere & new plants pop up in their path . It has traveled for @ least 200 yards in different directions . The vines have gone to the very top of a huge Maple tree , is constantly having to be cut back to keep it out from under the metal roof & attic , etc . I make a lot of compost tea from weeds , trimmings , etc. Imagine my surprise when after about 4 months of a barrel sitting through the Winter , that I had added the softer vines & leaves to , none of the Wisteria had decomposed !!! We are constantly cutting it off of & out of something , even cutting the roots out as it travels . Now I am trying to find a safe chemical to kill the darn thing that I once loved . The very base of your client's Wisteria trunk does look different from ours , so the roots may not be so invasive , but if they are , I wouldn't be surprised to find they have run up under the foundation of her beautiful old home . I had a lady gardener tell me once there was only one way to get rid of it & that was to sell your home & move !!!!!!!!!
I really enjoy your channel. Your knowledge of plants and trees and how to care for them is impressive, as opposed to the usual 'hack and slash' guys who make these videos.
Wisteria is such a beast! I didn’t know what i was doing with mine when i was pruning it. You cut a brach off and 3 grow back in its place, i finally murdered it this past summer… i think.
Problem is ~ within weeks , it will be right back to climbing & wrapping itself around everything it gets near ! Not only that the roots are just as tenacious as the vines ~spreading out for yards & yards & popping up in new places ! You can bet it has spread it's roots under the foundation of her home . Ask me how I know 😱 I have been fighting it for years .
That's such a beautiful house - I love the windows! Great job getting the wisteria cleared out of the eavestroughs and lines. But now I have to wait for winter to see what you do about the rest of the wisteria!!
Beautiful building. Nice to get the foliage trimmed back. Maybe several feet away from the house use 4x4 lumber to create support poles and form arches for the wisteria vine to climb thus keeping it away from the house. Just a thought.
Another fantastic job. You are always so meticulous and leave everything so clean and tidy. I wish I had a gardener like you. Shame you had to leave window partly covered.
The more garden cleanup videos I watch, the more determined I am to NEVER plant any creepers/climbers! But well done on clipping the wisteria by hand, rather than attacking it with a hedge trimmer as I'm sure many would do. And I loathe Cordylines. I appreciate that you Brits think they look exotic, but they're filthy things that continuously shed dead leaves that don't fall off. They're also impossible to kill - one planted too close to my back door I've cut down below ground level, poured RoundUp over it numerous times, but several years later it STILL keeps sending up new shoots (I'm in Aus).
Thanks I also hate cordylines they make such a mess and are always needing tidying!😬 I guess we grow them as they do look tropical and survive our damp horrible weather!😆👍
I am sure you were just following instructions from home owner as you mentioned might need further work. Love the job you did but I would have definitely trimmed back further
Very satisfying but I was waiting for you to cut that large, lower branch across the window although it does give more privacy to the house owner. We will be removing our 20 year old wisteria later this year as, despite it being magnificent (with 18” white blooms) for two weeks, the rest of the time it just sends out countless ‘whiskers’ which need constant trimming plus the roots could now be causing problems beneath our old cottage which has no solid foundations.
Great job! Though who wants to be stuck with wisteria? Two weeks of flowers, 50 weeks of nothing. And as I said before, who would want to live so close to all that traffic ?
i hava a wisteria but i cut it back to just one or two stems and cut all the stems round the bottom in the winter and when flowers are gone if i dont do this it would overtake my garden but flowers every year i am in the south of england

Hi mark looks so much better quick question does you henchman fit inside your boxer van I’m thinking about changing my van and can’t decide on smaller or bigger 😂
Who on earth wants a couple trees up AGAINST their house ????? Do they not know a young tree becomes a big tree ?? Why are people not schooled on what the roots do to foundations and the insects drawn into the crevices of brick and window sills or wood or vinyl siding ? 🤦🏽♀️

Does the homeowner actually know how invasive and damaging wisteria is. It will choke and kill trees and bushes, work its way into windows and crack mortar. I can’t honestly believe the owners think it’s a good plant to have anywhere near a house.
@@mdgardenservices7819 I know it has been there for decades. One can tell by the size of the stems / trunks. Even though it does have lovely flowers as the only pro, the cons, for me, outweigh the flowers. Did you also know almost all the plant is toxic? Another con. Oh well.

You are so welcome!😊👍
Same, have wanted to get it as it's so beautiful but I won't put it near the house after seeing this!
Our HOA said it’s prohibited in our neighborhood bc it’s so invasive
I love watching the trimming of overgrown shrubs and trees. Thank you 👍👌👏❤️
