Why is the balloon necessary and how does it affect the process if you don't have it if you don't mind me asking, this question is for educational purposes cause I have a chemistry class where I need to perform this exact experiment if I am to pass and I'm trying to get some tips from educated individuals who have experience with this specific endeavor
The balloon lets CO2 escape and keeps air from getting in and potentially spoiling the mix (I think). From what I was told, air getting in is no good. How no good is it? Not a clue. Some people said that they loosely put the lid on and have no issues. I think whatever you do, just make sure the CO2 can vent so that it doesn't blow haha. Thanks for watching and I hope you ace your chemistry experiment!

Ok so I followed instructions all the way through an used 2 teas of store yeast left it for 2 weeks and tried one and it was sweet as ever so I thought ok more yeast and more time to eat the sugar up so I overloaded the yeast to like 4 packs an a bit more sugar and left it for about another 2 weeks an I've been expiremantin soo much I'm not even sure where it's at so I'm just drinkin it now I didn't even filter it I'm drinkin it right out the bottle an it's not bitter did I add too much sugar 3 cups in pretty much the same size bottle I'm gonna have to start from scratch again how much yeast by packs is there a worse yeast then the next and is grape better then fruit punch I did both and the fruit punch one doesn't seem like it was catching the same as the grape
From what a few people have commented on this video, I used way too much yeast as it is with just one packet. I would probably go with a less is more philosophy on this but then again I'm no pro when it comes to not making alcohol haha. Thanks for watching.
@@thechittychef noted ok next question mind as well ask it here I used the caps twisted off enough but I opened them alot let the air out etc sometimes the caps were off I'm gonna use a Balloon this time does that make any difference with the fermentation is it better to use a balloon an never touch it again is it better to have it air tight then release is having a lid a necessity?
@@Gtacasinoheist So the reason for the balloon is so that no air gets in and the balloon can expand. If you don't have a way to vent the CO2, then the bottle could eventually explode if enough CO2 is made. I have heard of some people just leaving the cap on it barely screwed in but then again I haven't tested with a cap vs a balloon yet. I just did the balloons because that's what was recommended. I think just about anything could be used as long as there is enough sugar to feed the yeast. With that said, I am no professional. Thanks for watching!
I guess that might work but I am no expert. The reason that I used a balloon is because it would fill up with CO2 and not let any air in. Yeah, if you are trying to NOT make alcohol, make sure to NOT put a small hole in the balloon. By NOT putting a hole in the balloon, it will keep inflating more and more until it pops off the bottle and it will hinder the alcohol making process. Overall: small hole in balloon = bad because it will make alcohol which is exactly what I was trying to avoid in this video.

Could you freeze this and drain it until it won't freeze to make it stronger? I've heard about it but I wanna know if it will work with this stuff
That is a really good question that I do not know the answer to. I will have to try it!
What type of yeast was that ?
Hi I think its instant yeast. There is a link in the video description to it. Thanks for watching!
That god I watched this video because now I will definitely never accidentally do this.
Ok great that's what I was hoping for. Thanks for watching!
In some places this is really illegal 😂 and your dope for replying to comments afters years lol

It was just regular instant yeast. Thanks for watching!
Is metanol something to worry about? How do i avoid?
Just looked it up. I meant to say ethanol. It is s byproduct of fermentation as well as carbon dioxide. Thanks for watching!
@@thechittychef ok thnx but u know how to avoid blindness at all costs
@@iwillloveyoursoulifyourepl5557 To be honest I have absolutely no idea. I would say just buy alcohol that is approved for sale.

Doctors know a whole lot more about these things than I do. Thanks for watching!
The actual chances of you producing a lethal or dangerous amount of methanol from this process is almost impossible but grapes are high in pectin which is what makes methanol so I would recommend searching up fruits low in pectin to make the methanol levels even less🙂 happy brewing
@@Jonnyshlonghugedick69420 I think they keep telling me that because they want to keep me as a customer for their Pharmaceuticals.
Avoid apple juice if a beginner. A bad batch of applejack will make you never want to drink again.
This is hilarious!! DO NOT, but do this, do not just in case you don't do it!
You get it Dereck haha. I have been making sure not to do other things like this and fortunately they "never work." Thanks for watching!
should it be stored room temp or in the fridge? what if its pasteurized? thanks!
Don't put it in the fridge. Just leave it somewhere cool and dry at room temp! I have no idea about pasteurization but if you leave it out at room temp the yeast can do their work better than if it's cold. Thanks for watching.
How much you gotta drink to make it feel like you had 6 shots
I would say probably around 3/4 of the bottle, but that depends on your weight, your tolerance and what you are used to taking shots of.
1 beer = 1 shot of 35-40% alcohol
Beer- 5-6% abv 8 0z: 0.48 oz (vol) alcohol
1 shot- 35% abv 1.5 oz: 0.5 oz (vol) alcohol
Hooch- 15% abv 3 oz: 0.48 oz (vol) alcohol.
6 shots=6 beers=18oz hooch/ 14 shots of hooch
Two 12 oz glasses and 🤩, let it sit and ferment for about a month, it will taste amazing and will be clear
What if i can’t find juice that has 20 grams of sugar per serving? Do I just add more sugar to compensate?
Yep just add some sugar! Thanks for watching!
How would I accidentally store this?
You could just leave it out on the counter or after you've filtered it maybe just put it in the fridge. I don't think it will last long though once the fermentation process starts but I a no expert!
this video made me laugh. Imagine in the good old days when folks would leave crushed up apples in barrels, skins all in there and it'll ferment, then freeze and concentrate the abv, methanol, flavours and tannins from those skins and inadvertently make apple jack.
Ohhhh I might just accidentally have to try this hahaha. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

I see Creator has already answered but also know If you leave it uncovered it can turn into vinegar(keep in mind fruit flies will be attracted if left uncovered and will spoil
@@Yvng_YBK-RRR Vinegar and flies does not sound like a good combination. Thanks for watching!
Is it concentrated juice or pure juice that you are not meant to use.
It's just the cheap sugary "juice" that is probably concentrated if there is any real juice in it. Thanks for watching!
where is this illegal? here in uk would be illegal to distill but not brew
I am in the united states and I just figured better safe than sorry since every state as well as counties have different laws. Thanks for watching!
So how long do you usually wait before drinking because everywhere I look someone always has a different answer
I did one where I waited 3 days and one where I waited a week. Didn't notice much difference to be honest. Thanks for watching!
Thanks again for watching!
Question is how strong is it did you get a buzz off one glass ?
I’m not 100% sure but I think it was about as strong as a glass of wine.
How strong can this get ?
I am not 100% sure but after trying it I would say it's around wine lever so anywhere between 10 - 14%. Thanks for watching!

What is in bottle juice or soft drink
Hey that was just juice. Thanks for watching!
So if someone doesn't want air getting to it then why the pin hole?
The pin hole is so that the CO2 can escape which is very, very important so the bottle doesn't blow up (not sure if it would actually blow but it needs to release the CO2). Thanks for watching!

It's perfectly legal to make beer and wine. You can't sell it that would be illegal with out a license. You can not distill alcohol. Also don't need a balloon, just leave the lid cracked.
Hi, there are a few countries where the selling, distribution and making of alcohol is illegal. I haven't tried leaving the lid just cracked but it would make sense that that would work. Thanks for watching!
in the ones i have done i add 3 cups of sugar :)
But adding too much sugar leads to struck fermentation which is a turn off for any home brewer.

Fun story, my friend said but water in a bottle put sugar then yeast.
I by misstake opened the bottle...
The balloon wont pop right?
That does sound like something I'll make sure "not" to try. I put a little pin hole in the balloon to keep it from popping. Thanks for watching!
Could a fruit cordial be used
I think just about anything could be used as long as there is enough sugar to feed the yeast. With that said, I am no professional. Thanks for watching!
If using juice then isn't it technically going bad?
I think the creation of alcohol makes it not go bad as quickly but to be honest I am not sure. Thanks for watching!
Can't just put cap back on with tiny hole in it?
I guess that might work but I am no expert. The reason that I used a balloon is because it would fill up with CO2 and not let any air in. With a hole I think the CO2 would have to be coming out at a constant rate to keep the air from entering. Never tried it and can't say for sure whether it would work or not. Thanks for watching!
@@thechittychef What's wrong with letting air in?

Is it possible to take the ballon of after a while to add more auger to make it stronger than add the ballon back on
To be honest I am not sure. The point of the balloon is to keep the oxygen out so I don't think taking it off is a good idea but I have never tried it. Thank you for watching!
No that won't work and you can contaminate the batch
Can I do this with soda @the chitty chef
I wish I had an answer for you but unfortunately I have no idea.
Probably if you let it go flat
do i have to put it in a fridge in the meantime or can i just leave it out in a room temperature area
Leave it out at room temperature. Thanks for watching!
Hello chef, i just wanted some clarification on something : do i need to NOT make a small hole at the top of the balloon ?
Yeah, if you are trying to NOT make alcohol, make sure to NOT put a small hole in the balloon. By NOT putting a hole in the balloon, it will keep inflating more and more until it pops off the bottle and it will hinder the alcohol making process. Overall: small hole in balloon = bad because it will make alcohol which is exactly what I was trying to avoid in this video.
Is this done the same way with the mango stuff?
Hi Santo, I am not sure what the mango stuff is in reference to but if it is a mango juice with lots of sugar I don't see why it wouldn't work. Thanks for watching!
So when you are ready to drink it, do you do anything to stop the fermentation? Or do you just filter it and put it in the fridge or what?
I just filtered it and put it over ice then drank it...all of it...with my friends. Thanks for watching!
Usually you would use potassium sorbate to stop the fermentation process. Then you could backsweeten it with a little more sugar if you would like to do that.
@@chillinbig4206 what if you dont have potassium sorbate though? Thats what I'm wondering. Do I just throw this stuff into the fridge for a good 3 hours and then just bottle it? I am kinda paranoid about it blowing up ahahahsh

Bubbling stops, yeast is beginning to die from either starvation or alchohol poisoning....or is going semi-dormant due to cold.
