For those interested Jimmy Santiago Baca’s book entitled A Place to Stand is a great read. As many already know Blood In, Blood Out is based on his life experiences. Another incredible piece Kurt!
Wow, I can't believe you did set location for Blood In and Blood Out. This movie was such a big deal for me and friends but I always felt like we were the only ones to have ever seen it. Though I think Siskel and Ebert gave it a good review. Anytime I bring it up I get crickets. I've been wanting to watch this again in recent years. Oh man, we thought we were such street kids at 20 years old then. lol. Such strong iconic LA movies came out then.. from the valley... to the east side... south side. Just remarkable. So sad to see the mural of the eagle and snake gone! I'm trying to remember if it was near a King Taco. Either I've seen it in person or it was in other movies. I think it'd be so much fun to experience that time in my current age. Thanks for this incredible set location coverage for this iconic movie.
It’s certainly underrated - I enjoy watching then unknown actors like Ving Rhames, Billy Bob Thornton, Delroy Lindo, Benjamin Bratt, Tom Wilson, Danny Trejo among them!
That’s because it’s a shitty movie that could have been cut by an hour and a half. To think there’s a longer version out there makes my stomach turn. 😂
Yeah, we used to watch it all the time. I grew up skateboarding with this one vato in Albuquerque who was a big movie buff, mostly horror, but he had a huge VHS collection and Blood In, Blood Out was one we watched a lot; he turned me onto a lot of stuff. Also Boulevard Nights, which this guy also did the movie locations for.
Man, I love this channel. I really enjoy how exhaustive and dedicated you are in your research. It often makes me feel so bummed/it’s bittersweet to see how much things have changed (for the worse, in my opinion), but it’s really cool to see the locations you hunt down. Hands down one of my top UA-cam channels. Thanks for doing this!
The director rented a house in the barrio for miklo paco and Cruz. He felt like this would help them get into character and build a stronger relationship for the roll they were playing. This might be the house on the paintings.
You have gone above and beyond anyone I have seen on UA-cam to try to be as accurate as possible on the filming locations and I gotta say, AWESOME JOB!
I've never spent much time east of the river, I am from Inglewood. Closest I usually got was Chinatown. In high school, they hadn't quite completed the Red Line, sorry the B Line, still not used to that, to Universal City. My friends and I would take the Blue Line, did it again, A Line, to the King Taco on Washington, or make it fun day and head down to the last stop in Long Beach. Those were the days. These video pull on my heartstrings! Love Your Work, thanks for making the effort. Days must long driving around doing these!
Definitely one of my favorite movies that I've seen more times than I can count. So awesome to see all the film locations then and now. Great video bro! 👍
I have to say that you did an awesome job on this video. I'm a long time sub and you can tell how much you have evolved to making great content. Thank you👍
09:50 Hollenbeck Terrace... you couldn't pay me to live there. It used to be Linda Vista Hospital. so many paranormal investigations happened there. Ghost Adventures is an episode i remember
100%! My wife and I were just looking at the website for that place and we were like, who are they tryin to fool? I Remember creeping around there back when it was still the abandoned hospital
I'm from National City CA. I moved to New Mexico in 1985. A year and a half later I went back to visit my family and tons of things changed. California changes scenery constantly.
The Intro wall art from Blood in & Blood out is also used in the Movie for the intro for Born in east LA (87) & Throughout the movie Colors (88). There is a directors cut Version of the movie some extended scenes and alternative endings it’s on UA-cam. Great video
very nice video, this is the one that I been seen complete with almost all the places where this movie was filmed, so nobody speaks about cheap times but in your video you did.... congratulations men ...you got a new suscriber
The location of "Cheap Times" was razed in 1997. There was a temporary detour road that was laid directly over the spot where the building had been, but that was only used for a couple of years while they built the train overpass. Love your videos BTW. I grew up around Long beach and your channel has definitely inspired me to tour a lot of these locations the next time I am in the area.
I grew up in the area. His location for Cheap Times is 100% accurate. The place resembled how it looked like in the film when it was razed. It had the blue gray stucco and the lightbulb star.
That is so f*ckin' cool of you to go to the filming locations. Everyone here loves this movie like their own family. I happened upon it by chance as a middle-schooler in the late 90's, and it's been in my top three ever since. El Pino is just the stuff of legend. Bunya pines are beautiful.
Both movies are good, but I think the reason Blood In Blood Out has a bigger cult following today is because of the great one liners, a good mix of chicano and non-chicano actors and the fact that the movie and the main characters could be funny and light hearted alot of the time. American Me and its main characters took themselves way to serious.
I remember that building that you’re talking about like cheap times it was torn down when they restructured Anaheim Street and build a new bridge for terminal island freeway class it was destroyed during the Northridge earthquake and left abandoned throughout the mid 90s
It's always cool when I see your location videos in or around East LA. Love it. I don't think we'll ever see this movie even out on Blu-ray because it's now owned by Disney and they'll never want to release this movie let alone a director's cut. But if they do, both of your location videos should be included as extras. They're that good.
🔪 for Cheap Times 🔪 for Cheap Times. Thanks for all that hard work. First time I watched the movie was in middle school around 1995. I just rewatched it again yesterday for the 20+ time. I'm happy you can find it on UA-cam for free. VL forever
Maybe the reason you can’t find cheap times because it was blown up by Smokey 😂
This is true. Smokey made it really hard
😂
Bro 🤣💀
Hahaha
And we sure can't ask Smokey about it!
I appreciate you mentioning Adan Hernandez!! Him and Jesse Borrego were a big influence to the movie !! San Antonio Texas !! 💪🏽
Amazing movie that should getting more credit. Great job with this one.
I agree. Thank you

Really like the storytelling, it shows everyone exactly how much effort you put in all of this. Thanks bro ❤

This movie is a life changer. I had a similar experience growing up after seeing this.

Wow great job. Reminds me of my childhood in ELA.
Thank you

Thank you so much!!
Bloody brilliant as always Kurt amazing video. can't wait for the next
Dude, you are a very impressive investigator to be able to find out all this back story, little-known information, and location shoots. Very cool.
Man, I love this channel. I really enjoy how exhaustive and dedicated you are in your research. Great job. More people need to know about this movie. It truly is a masterpiece. Thank you for all of your hard work.
THIS ONE IS AWESOME BRO!!
Thank you!!
The director rented a house in the barrio for miklo paco and Cruz. He felt like this would help them get into character and build a stronger relationship for the roll they were playing. This might be the house on the paintings.

Yup, Cheap Times was right there in the 3rd Wolrd of East Side Wilmington. My Dad showed me the spot when I was a kid.

That's awesome that you found that Cheap Times location -- In that establishing shot, it almost looks like a set or structure built for the movie
Well made video, you put lots of time into this and it shows 👏
Man! Another homerun! One of the most overlooked and underated movies of all time. Great job

The Zody's where Paco shot Miklo is a 99 Cent store in Panorama City on the corner of Woodman and Chase street.
Yes. It's in my first video. I show almost all the locations in my first video
You are THE man! Great work always!

I always preferred Blood in Blood Out over American Me great vlog man.

I second that!
Disney is too woke to enforce negative stereotypes. This movie is now Problematic.
your hard work is amazing. Great video Kurt Crucial!!
Your the best1🤘😎🤘
Thank you!!
Great job and Excellent efforts!!!
Damn I thought the Manuel Special from El Tepeyac was gonna get the before / after treatment too!
