I'm from Jonesboro and remember the summer of '76 well. It was a big deal having Burt filming in town. I was 9 years old at the time and love the movie to this day. Every time I watch it, it's like a trip back in time and I get to see my hometown just as it was when I was growing up. The location where they picked up the beer was on Main St and I would pass by there almost every day...twice a day...for years. My childhood home was about a mile away.
@@ludicrous7044 I believe when he came out the window rolling that truck in Gator (1976) and it damn near killed him, I think he pivoted into writing and directing (Smokey and the Bandit) and hung up his stuntman spurs 🤔
Burt broke his tailbone when he shot Deliverance demanding to do his own stunt. He wanted it to be authentic when he got tossed out of the canoe on the river shooting the rapids. Story I heard was he hit a boulder. Side note, Ned Beatty broke his sphincter during the squeal like a pig scene.
From 70 year old man, who remembers seeing this movie in the theater. Thank You. I myself love to travel to filming locations that I've seen in the movies. Thank you again. Take Care
Yeah this was very cool, I'd like to go there myself. Probably my all time favorite movie as well, I remember when it came out and going to see it at the drive-in ! Its something in my life I'll never forget, and had an effect on my life, and I've had 6 2nd gen Camaro's, have a 79 Z-28 now. I was like 12 at that time, and my oldest brother had gotten a new 78 Z-28 right then as well. Even though that was a T/A in the movie, basically the same car, just love that look!
The world would be a better place if more people could experience the simple pleasure you got making this video, and I experienced watching this video.
Every time I watch Smokey and the Bandit, it is a walk down memory lane. I was a kid when it was filmed and lived just south of Atlanta. The scene where Bandit drops Frog off to catch the bus then runs into Sheriff Burford T. Justice was filmed in my hometown of Forest Park, Georgia. Many of the other locations were within 10 miles or so. The race track was named the Lakewood Speedway and began life as a dirt track that had a small lake in the center of the oval. The pillars you pointed out were the front facade of 4 livestock exhibition halls at the fairground. They were later refurbished and used as a monthly antique show that had over 15,000 dealers exhibiting their goods for over 20 years. And no, Burford Dam wasn't named for Burford Justice but rather for Buford Georgia where it is located, lol.
My favorite all time movie! I'm 72 yrs old and retired and drove truck for 54 years and really can relate to that movie!! It's so cool to see where it all took place 👍👍. Thank you so much and God bless 🙏

Those vines are kudzu. It reclaims everything in the south in short time. So happy you were able to see some of the original locales for the filming. I was 6 when my mom and dad took me to the premier in my small hometown. Crazy how fast the years have flown.

Incredible work, amazing inserts, spot on locations, all the effort you put into this is flat out awesome! I can't thank you enough for bringing history back from the all time best. Wonderful!
When the Hot Rod Power Tour went to Atlanta motor speedway a whole bunch of us detoured off the official route and went to a bunch of movie sites, we did the beer depot scene, and a local PD told us I understand what y’all are doing but it’s way to much traffic for us to block off the street like we were 😂😂😂 she was nice but told us keep moving 🤣👍🏻🙌🏼👊🏼 we did the Fred going for a swim scene and the bandit picks up runaway bride scene. 🙌🏼👊🏼👍🏻 we had a great time doing it, we sounded like you all excited and wandering all over 🤣👍🏻🙌🏼👊🏼
DUDDE!! YOU MADE MY DAY.. This movie has such a special history with me. My dad LOVED this movie. It was the only movie he and I ever really watched. I memorized it, and listened to him every time we would road trip to ohio to visit family as he spoke CB fluently. What a great job you've done of keeping the history alive by recording it. THank you ssooo... much. '76 was a great year to be a kid. Block Parties, great movies like star wars just around the corner, freedom to be a kid. The movies were insensitive, because we didn't know any better, but we had all in the family blazing the trail, the jeffersons, Norman Lear as a whole.. just FIGHTING for equality while we were riding our green machines, and sucking on Graf's grape soda. Man, you stirred some stuff up. Thank you.
Hey Pugelista! My thoughts exactly. I grew up riding along with my dad in '70s. It was such a simpler time. Watching mark restore the KW and trailer, had me inspired to build a model of the same thing. I have been in contact with Mark and I am gifting it to his channel. I am done it and about to ship it to him. I'll be posting an assembly build video soon on my channel (Earl Widmeyer). Keep an eye out for it!! Cheers! C
The upcoming 50th anniversary of Smokey seems like a great time for the state of Georgia (or maybe that film studio) to capitalize on these remaining locations, clean them up, add storyboards. It would certainly fit with Georgia's status as a booming filming center.
Thank you sooooooooo very much for showing us this and the amazing place where this movie was filmed. I fell in love with this movie when I was about 10 years old watching it on the late night channel 7 movie of the night! I laughed throughout this whole movie and fell in love with the transam. After I got my license when I was 18 , I was in the hunt for a 77 transam and found one when I was 20. Omg what a fun car to drive. I had about 6 all together and still have a 79 trans am rotting in my driveway. I don't have the heart to give it up ,unless I find a rebuilt one. Still though I will never love another car , the ay I did the 77 transam. This car was the real star of this movie. What was cool about this video was seeing all those great spots where this movie was filmed. That was soooooo awesome to see. Thank you again. !!!!!!!
Hi Mark, watching from Australia, wow 50 years where has the time gone, but great video, and those memories of that movie, its just Gold, keep up the great work, love the channel, and I'm watching that twin stick Pete come together. Cheers from Australia 🇭🇲
One of my favourite films..Thank you for making me laugh when you were at the site of where they filmed bufords car door getting it...and for doing the reccy...loved this.
I'd pay to go on tour with this man. This movie was iconic and i watch it now and then. What a great movie . But thank you sir for coming back to the very spots this movie was made!
I enjoyed this very much especially since a super fan like you made it. I also enjoyed your excitement finding these long hidden places. If you didn't do this, nobody would have and it all would have been lost to history and overgrown vines, trees etc. Great video!
I'm delighted I stumbled upon your video, I love these "memory lane" type videos, Smokey is one of my all-time favourite movies. It's great to see the shooting locations as they are today. I was nine in 1976, and living in England, I got to see the movie on TV sometime in the early 80's. For me, Jackie Gleason stole the show, his portrayal of Sheriff Buford T Justice was just hilarious.
Awesome video! I grew up in Jonesboro Georgia. I went back for the 40th anniversary few years back. Growing up it was cool to drive and just be around the sites every day. The jump bridge, the "Texarkana Coors". Love the video!
This was the first movie I ever saw at the movie theater, (drive-in actually). But yeah. Dad was a trucker. So he piled mom, me and my brother in the car and took us to see it. My all time favorite! And as it turns out, my older brother, myself, and my younger brother, (born after we went to see the movie), all became truck drivers. Love your stuff man!
That Chevy Diesel Truck on the dam tried rollin' you in coal! LOL!!! If he only knew you were the *TWINSTICK LEGEND!?* (maybe he did, hence the coal-rolliln' tribute!) 🤣🤣
In the 1990s the building in the background of the truck rodeo is where they had lakewood antique shows once a month. As a teenager, I would help my mother set up. I remember walking around the concrete bleachers wondering what they were used for in the past as most the racetrack was gone by that time. I had watched this movie probably over five times by that age and never realized I was where This scene was filmed. Thank you for bringing me back to a simpler time.

I was 11 years old when Smokey and the Bandit came out. I am glad you actually went to the wooden bridge where the Trans Am was launched . Wow the memories tank you 👍🇺🇸
G'day Mark, We can hear the excitement in your voice as you look back through some of the classic scenes . I too am a great fan of of the movie along with The Blues Brothers ,which also had some terrific car chase scenes. Sadly ,they dont make movies like that any more . Respect....!
from the uk, that was great, have seen other smokey location vids of that bridge, but only from the road. great to see those original posts are still there. thanks for taking the time to do this.
I know the restaurant where Burford orders the Diablo sammich and a Dr Pepper is now part of an interstate interchange. A UA-camr that covered quite a few of the locations then and now around 12 15 years ago caught the site just before the bulldozers rolled. Judging by how flat the kissing bridge is in 76 vs the arched the new bridge has I'm going to guess if it wasn't replaced sooner there was record breaking flooding in the Atlanta area in 2009 or 10 that would have taken any flat structure like the movie bridge.
@denzel270 I've searched with no luck so apparently the video I found is no longer up. I did find this one with music background rather than the descriptive narration and from 15 rather than 07. ua-cam.com/video/lQjlU82c31Y/v-deo.htmlsi=VDfHxH32a-KWAWOa
That restaurant was actually one of the Old Hickory House BBQ locations that were well known around Atlanta. Pretty good food to go if you need to “Make it fast I’m in a goddamn hurry “ 😂.
The amount of times ive watched this film and still love it each time, it was mid 90,s in my young teens and watched it over and over, just loved that trans am,

As a long time resident of the Atlanta area, I have been to every location that you have shown. actually lived just a mile from some of them. I used to do Federal Emergency Vehicle Certification Testing and have driven ambulances through the Chattahoochee River there. Several " southern" oriented movies were actually shot on the road that I lived on. The overgrown bleachers that you show were once Lakewood Speedway. It was very popular from the 1930's through the 1960's . I've seen many races there.
That's still one of my favorite movies. I grew up in Jonesboro and the train depot that they loaded up the beer in the movie is in the middle of downtown Jonesboro. Drove past the bridge that he jumped a thousand times. Kinda miss living in GA. Now I might have to go watch the movie again.
Drove past that Rock Shop in Helen GA dozens of times and never knew it was in the movie. Proud to say I saw the original movie back in the 70's when it was in theaters.
Thank you for making this amazing video about the locations where one of my favorite movies was made. I think it means a lot to many people, me included, I'm 66 now and this brings back so many memories of the times when life was simple and easy,no mobile's no computers no digital bullshit.

I love this! Well done! Smokey and the Bandit was one of my favorite movies when I was young. I'm a 50 year old Georgia boy who grew up near several of the filming locations in Northeast Georgia. We recently did some filming with impersonaters, Buford, Bandit, and Junior. They had the cars and all. It reviewed my love for the film.
Love this. My dad suffered from dementia the last few years of his life and this was one of his favorite movies ive seen it so many times I can resite the movie word for word.
This was my dad's favorite movie too and he also suffered from dementia. He passed away in 2018. He used to call me Junior and he and I always did the Bufford and Junior lines from the movie. Now every time I hear Bufford say "There's no way, *no* way that you came from *my* loins. Soon as I get home, first thing I'm gonna do is punch yo mamma in da mouth" it makes me think of my dad.
After the movie, when the " World of Wheels " car show was held at the World Congress Center downtown, the Trans Am and the truck were both there. I was a kid but I still remember getting to check them out. Was super cool as Smokey / Bandit is my favorite movie as well. My parents used to go to the Lakewood Fairgrounds too, so I had been there many times and saw the roller coaster before the Bandit took it out!!! Also the fairgrounds had many large, long, arched buildings. Similar in shape to an aircraft hanger only longer. There were many and it was all one giant flea market. Would take hours to walk though them all. Thanks for bringing back some old memories!!!!

The black 77-78 TAs are too expensive now to buy. I want one like in the movie, those are 12 second 400 HP
I was 8 too! 😂 Class of '69! 😉👍
Cheers!

Cool, as I'd love to see it too! 😃😄👍
Not 50 years yet film was released in 1977 - 1978 here in the ACT Australia as I was in the first matinee ant the old Manuka Theatre
This is a movie that never gets old to watch. Thank you for sharing this video and taking the time to scout the locations.
“Cause he’s thirsty…Dummy” lol
My favorite line in the movie. 😂
Daddy my hat came off. Too bad your head wasn't in it Junior. Lol
@@williamclements8818*WE AIN’T GOT NO TIME FOR THAT CRAP!!* 😂😂😂
I was 14 when this movie came out and I remember having "feelings" about Sally Field. ; )
Awesome, my favorite car & movie 👍🇺🇸👍
Thank you for getting all of that archived, that's a lot of work! I really miss cars jumping for real. Awesome skill, nerve, and showmanship.
You made me so happy watching this video.Thank you! 👍🏻🙂❤️ I love smokey and the bandit.
One of my favourite films..Thank you for making me laugh when you were at the site of where they filmed bufords car door getting it...and for doing the reccy...loved this.
I've been a Smoky and the Bandit fan all my life. It's good to see these spots.
I'd pay to go on tour with this man.
This movie was iconic and i watch it now and then.
What a great movie .
But thank you sir for coming back to the very spots this movie was made!
Thank you so much for this Blast from the past. Smokey and The Bandit was one of my Favorite Movies also.
That movie could not have been made today.
It’s 1 of my top 5 movies of all times. A true classic.
I can't thank you enough for this video! Your enthusiasm for the sites plus the video clips from the movie. Well done!!!
I enjoyed this very much especially since a super fan like you made it. I also enjoyed your excitement finding these long hidden places. If you didn't do this, nobody would have and it all would have been lost to history and overgrown vines, trees etc. Great video!
Thank you for posting this - great job. My chest hurts, I've laughing so hard at Jackie Gleason. Cheers from the Mississippi Delta
I don’t know how this was suggested in my feed but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks
Brilliant, the best Smokey location video ever. Really really enjoyed watching this you are a funny man.
That was a lot fun to watch. Smokey and the Bandit gets played at least once a year in our house. Thanks!
Cool 😊, if you purchased that building you could do smokie and the bandit reenactments
Maybe turn it into a restaurant and sell Diablo Sammiches 😂

I'm delighted I stumbled upon your video, I love these "memory lane" type videos, Smokey is one of my all-time favourite movies. It's great to see the shooting locations as they are today. I was nine in 1976, and living in England, I got to see the movie on TV sometime in the early 80's. For me, Jackie Gleason stole the show, his portrayal of Sheriff Buford T Justice was just hilarious.
Mark this was a Cinematic Masterpiece of Epic Proportion's.....🏆
Awesome video! I grew up in Jonesboro Georgia. I went back for the 40th anniversary few years back. Growing up it was cool to drive and just be around the sites every day. The jump bridge, the "Texarkana Coors". Love the video!
Just brilliant, I was brought up watching these movies..you've made my day, finding all this, thanks, all the best..uk...🇬🇧
Thanks for the tour Mark!!!! Hope you and the wife had a great time in the lower 48!!!
These great locations need their own plaques. RIP Burt... PBHS ('been a long time). Thanks for the memories!
That Chevy Diesel Truck on the dam tried rollin' you in coal! LOL!!! If he only knew you were the *TWINSTICK LEGEND!?* (maybe he did, hence the coal-rolliln' tribute!) 🤣🤣
Maybe Mark should bring one of the trucks and show that duramax how to really roll coal😂😂😂
That was weak
@@1320fastback Regardless...it was FUNNY.
Trucks just do that here.
There woulda been a way bigger cloud if he were really trying.
Typical
My favorite movie of ALL time!! I was like a kid in a candy store watching this!! Thanks so much for posting this!!
Imagine a job of scoping out areas for movie shoots!
❤it.
The diesel truck rolling coal on you at 12:35 was worth the price of admission!!!!!!!
I am just curious, why? Do you not see diesel trucks rolling coal where you live?
@@BAYBAY_316 Absolutely! I do so every chance I get!
@RonSlinker-dt7vr huh?
@RonSlinker-dt7vr Hey Ron. So you said to yourself "I see his profile pic and I'm going to be so cool and I'm going to tell that guy what to do with his good morals and everybody's going to think I'm awesome". You're absolutely right Ron everyone thinks you are the coolest guy on UA-cam right now and good for you. Hey Ron , I bet you also thought "everybody's really going to love me to make a political statement on a channel that has absolutely nothing to do with war or politics". And you were right again Ron everybody knows how cool you are Ron. Once again Ron you did a good job and I'm sure all of your friends are very proud of you
@@seanoleary1979 to explain rons comment, ol Ron, he decided to talk about something in the youtube comments that has absolutely nothing to do with the video we watched but he wanted to make his statement known to everyone because he feels he is morally Superior to me and wanted everyone to know. To be clear though , to rons credit, he was really really awesome and really really cool and all of his friends think he's really really Neato. I'm sure they'll be praising him really well at the next Maga circle jerk.
I was 11 years old when Smokey and the Bandit came out. I am glad you actually went to the wooden bridge where the Trans Am was launched . Wow the memories tank you 👍🇺🇸
G'day Mark,
We can hear the excitement in your voice as you look back through some of the classic scenes .
I too am a great fan of of the movie along with The Blues Brothers ,which also had some terrific car chase scenes.
Sadly ,they dont make movies like that any more .
Respect....!
My dad is grew up in Forrest park Georgia. They’ve lived in Jonesboro for the last 25 years. Very cool video.
from the uk, that was great, have seen other smokey location vids of that bridge, but only from the road. great to see those original posts are still there. thanks for taking the time to do this.
Very cool. These locations were a little more obscure than other videos! Very cool indeed! Thanks!
Could you post a link please top the restaurant video?
@denzel270 I've searched with no luck so apparently the video I found is no longer up. I did find this one with music background rather than the descriptive narration and from 15 rather than 07.

The UA-cam is Brian baker and it was 8 years ago, it's still on UA-cam.
That's America for you unlike Europe, they tear all history down instead of preservation.
That restaurant was actually one of the Old Hickory House BBQ locations that were well known around Atlanta. Pretty good food to go if you need to “Make it fast I’m in a goddamn hurry “ 😂.
The amount of times ive watched this film and still love it each time, it was mid 90,s in my young teens and watched it over and over, just loved that trans am,
the car hauler truck that sheared the door off would have been a GMC 9500 as the General hadn't been introduced into production
I'll have to check, but I think it was a Chevy.
@@struedel25 similar truck off the same assembly line
@@kw900lkevin Exactly. But I think the grill is how you can tell the difference. My mom hated watching that scene. Every time my dad would say "that guy!" My mom would say "Gerry, you don't know who he is!"
Yes It definitely was a Chevrolet.
The GMC General was released in1977 I owned 2 of them one with a 350 Cummins the other a 6v92 Detroit rember Little Beaver was driving a day cab General in the hide and seek scene
I don't know how in the world you discovered all these locations but I'm glad you did. Thanks man
That's still one of my favorite movies. I grew up in Jonesboro and the train depot that they loaded up the beer in the movie is in the middle of downtown Jonesboro. Drove past the bridge that he jumped a thousand times. Kinda miss living in GA. Now I might have to go watch the movie again.
16:51
One of the many “Oh sure” it dove after that landing moments!
😂
Drove past that Rock Shop in Helen GA dozens of times and never knew it was in the movie. Proud to say I saw the original movie back in the 70's when it was in theaters.
RIP Snow man
The movie is timeless. Every few years I rewatch it. It's like the Road Warrior movie. Only a few can pass the test of time.
For some reason, you sounded a little taller on radio 😂
Thanks for braving the unspeakable bushes to show us this stuff. Fascinating seeing where proper films were created and this is one of my favourites.
You have to remember that many storms and river flooding can change the banks.
Awesome pond hopping location.
Growing up in Loganville, Conyers and Covington, I got to see hundreds of movie sets throughout my life. Iconic
It was one of those movies my parents took me to at the drive-in. When society acted with some common sense. Like a large living room party.
Thank you for making this amazing video about the locations where one of my favorite movies was made.
I think it means a lot to many people, me included, I'm 66 now and this brings back so many memories of the times when life was simple and easy,no mobile's no computers no digital bullshit.
That show turned me in to a trucker .and every time I watch the movie I want to get back behind the wheel of my old twin stick
I was 7yrs old when that movie came out in theaters but i ALWAYS have a copy of Smokey and the bandit in my dvd collection!! 😁
Sr. I don’t think you understand HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO ME ❤❤❤❤ everything you’ve filmed and shown to us ! It’s means the world to me , born in ‘76 Smokey & the Bandit is the backbone of my life ! The bible of Americana culture thank you so much from South Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for reminding me it's time to watch Smokey and the Bandit again ... That Buford Dam sign made me laugh!
This was awesome. Brought back so many childhood memories, and it's still one of my all time favorite movies.
Smokey and the Bandit 1 and 2 were the best. Thank you for sharing this video. Great video
I was 9yrs when I watched that movie at a drive-in in Jackson county Michigan and I was hooked. Smokey and the bandit fan for ever.
Was Lou Ferigno at that World of Wheels? I got to meet him when I was a kid. Had a broken hand at the time so I was 11.
I used to live in California near Ojai, CA. There's a Y hyw 33 & hyw 150. The little gas station Burt was running circles around Thr Great Jackie Gleason. You can note the California Red Oak. The place has been though redevelopment, but you can still tell.
