Sleep Token fans are insane! Someone leaked a Sleep Token member's birth certificate, which made him delete his Instagram. Bad Omens fans are also crazy. What's going on??

Most fans respect the band’s anonymity but whoever posted the birth certificate is definitely out of their mind. Just so disrespectful of their privacy and just straight up creepy.

No, people are crazier. Our kids are taught in school that morals depend on the situation and that there are no over arching truths. Many have bought into the 200+ gender theory and believe that humans have magically changed (maybe through hair dye?)
Bingo! The husband and I were just talking about this. In the 90s it would be some special about “Johnny from Cincinnati, the local kiss fan!” And their house would be floor to ceiling kiss merch. People in their fandom would all know Johnny and if your looking for something he’d probably be the one to talk to.
Now with social media we can communicate far easier and with the clear web even, information is at our fingertips. There’s always that *ONE* person without boundaries sadly.

I went to a meet and greet at a Bad Omens show, primarily just to get a good spot on the rail. Noah was so clearly uncomfortable and instead of people just walking up shaking hands and getting a picture, these folks were asking them to pose and directing them like they were dolls. It was really gross. Do people not get these are human beings, not props for your IG? Yech. The whole thing was just really creepy.
Could he not tell them he didn’t want to pose?

I remember an interview with Corey Taylor, he was talking about how in the early days people would follow them trying to see them unmasked or snap secret pics of them. I gotta disagree Finn, that was weird back then too and it's weird now with Sleep Token. Ain't the music more important than who is behind a mask?

Considering most of their hardcore fan base seems to be typical TikTok/reddit users, I’m not surprised about this at all. I used to say hardcore Harry Potter fans are the most emotionally pathetic people I’ve had the misfortune of interacting with. That was before I discovered TikTok and Reddit.

As someone who knows very little about Harry Potter other than it was a popular book/film series, I'm curious what makes the hardcore fans so bad? I know JK Rowling is controversial but never heard much about the fanbase.

Apparently, the person who leaked all this info on band members is named Anne and has stated in the past that they are not a Sleep Token fan. They have been threatening online to do this for a while now. Who in their right mind wastes all that effort and time gathering all this info and then posting it for something that they aren't even a fan of!

People idolize band members and forget that they're human. Concert etiquette is in the trash now too. They're about to ruin concerts and music as we know it. Who in their right mind would invade someone's privacy like that.. it's honestly disgusting. I don't even listen to sleep token but if this is true, my heart just sinks for them.

This is what happens when a band like Sleep Token or MCR is accepted by a more mainstream audience. I hate to say it because it's cringe af, but people who are into pop music do this kinda crap. Metalheads or people into heavy music don't generally act creepy over bands and band members. It's when the music and bands start getting the attention of teenagers and more pop minded kids that this starts happening.
This is what happens when your supposedly evil cult band actually sounds like Imagine Dragons with a british vocalist that somehow sings with an American country accent.
It was the same with PTV too so many girls wrote fan fics on the members

People are mad about this. I wouldn't be surprised if they already know who they are and are giving them hell. The internet can be a ruthless, unforgiving place. And if someone is perceived as being deserving of hatred there's always those who feel vilified in being willing to take it too far.

In previous generations it was common to not even know what a band looked like, forget anything actually personal. Now, with everyone having so much easy access to information it has created a feeling from some people that nothing should be inaccessible. It's crazy that I've watched the death of privacy in my lifetime.

I am so glad we’re talking about this being weird. Back in my days I when I was a fan of MCR and the bisexual innuendos was a real thing amongst the teen girls. It was creepy then and it’s still creepy now, especially when things like doxing is really becoming a very real scary thing. It never ends well. If ST is doing their shenanigans for a new album or single, or pulling a Ghost rebranding themselves. I am here for it and I’ll be excited for their next project. If they did have a psycho stalker, I hope they have pretty good lawyers and they will figure it out.

The band fic reminds me when Ronnie Radke was on stream reading the description of a fanfic about himself adopting the fic writer from an orphanage. Hearing it out loud makes it all the more strange.

@GhostSpydr Happened to a K-pop Idol who is loved by many fans. Most are kind but not pushy. These two super obsessed fans though are, far and wide crazy obsessed with anything she does. She noticed he would comment on any posts she'd make on Ig, he would post reacting to her post, he would make videos on YT saying he was coming to visit his 'gf' and I saw one video of his and I thought it was a joke, but the dude is seriously A+ level stalker and just super creepy.
Her name is Nayeon in Twice btw. I don't like K-pop really, I like Dreamcatcher and that's about it, but her situation is just sad.
To answer your question of why someone would do this, my best guess is for bragging rights. To say "haha I get to be the person who publicly uncovered the true identities of Sleep Token!" It's like how J. Jonah Jameson was so adamant on uncovering Spider-Man's identity.
It’s a shame that Sleep Token’s fan base is being considered toxic now. As a fan of them since Sundowning, I would like to say the whole fan base is not like this. Idk why people can’t just appreciate a band without disturbing them

I respect them wanting to be anonymous. The bigger slip up was Apple Music using their real names as the song writers when Take me back to Eden was initially released.
To be fair, crazy people has always been around, it's just that internet culture and the internet itself embraces this type of behavior and allow these types of people to not face the consequences. In the case of Bad Omens it happened because Noah is a handsome guy. In Sleep Token's case this sounds more like an anti fan trying to ruin the band and the gimmicks (not that it makes any of this acceptable).

Unfortunately their identities were/is going to come out at some point. Either by themselves or the fans. The internet made it easy for stalkers to look things up. We will know all of their names, where they grew up and who their friends are by the end of the year. Im actually surprised the band didn’t assume that was going to happen in the first place

i think the problem is that with social media and the internet, more people than ever have unfettered access to everyone else, so you see way more of the crazy shit.
cuz in the past, if you were that crazy, you'd have to go and follow them IRL. now you can stalk people online and doxx them. it's so much easier to be an unhinged asshole with the internet and completely disregard other people's boundaries
Imo knowing their identities doesn't actually change anything, they're still Vessel, II, III and IV. But leaking their personal documents is completely disgusting and would be no matter what artist it happened to. Sleep Token as a lot of complete fangirls, who fawn over them the same way we emo kids fawned over Warped Tour bands in early 2010's. At least in the 2010's, we mostly kept our weird thoughts and ideas to our own little corner of the internet. I think with the rise of TikTok and especially Sleep Token's popularity with "The Summoning" on the app, fans find them very sexual and think it's okay to go absolutely feral for them. I've had to leave several Facebook group because of the cringy, gross sexualization of the band members. The boys do somewhat encourage it with their on-stage antics, but I'm afraid that's making the fans feel like they're entitled to do and think whatever their want regarding the band in broad daylight. And they no longer just keep it to their own little corner of the web.
You make a great point with that! They do have a sexual nature to their act and their music. But that's similar to the case of: if she was wearing a mini skirt and showing off her body did she deserve to be raped? I mean hopefully everyone would agree no. Being sexually appealing and even flaunting it does not excuse being abused/mistreated. However, we both know there's plenty of people who think if they're "asking for it" they deserve whatever happens. We actually see people defending that "logic" all the time. And I do think we are seeing this behavior in much of the fanbase. So many people women and men alike want to jump their bones and it's palpable. But these men are here to tour, make music, and make money... not sleep with all their fans LMAO. It's always been insane to me that people think it's okay to treat others so poorly with no respect.
I don’t think this is where things are going. Things have already been this way. There are always going to be crazy people that infiltrate a fandom and cross boundaries. They do not represent the majority, though, and never will. Crazy people , just like negative people, will always be the loudest even though they’re the smallest group.

I remember at the peak of PTV and SWS, BMTH, etc other teens keeping tabs on what toothpaste the band members used and what they're favorite things were, what birthmarks they have on their body and other weird personal details I feel only their personal friends/family should know. I always thought it was too extra and creepy that all that stuff was on the Internet like Tumblr etc

Kiss went through something similar back in the 70s. They went to great lengths to not get photographed without their make-up on, so you'd occasionally see a news story where a fan was hanging off the balcony at a hotel trying to get a pic of them without the facepaint.
Respect and appreciate your takes on this Finn. Definitely a messy situation. In regards to the person saying it “gave them stomach pain”, cut them some slack. They don’t need to “seek help”. Being highly internally upset that your favorite band may have just ended is absolutely a justifiable reason to have a physical reaction, that’s just how emotions affect the body. Of course it would be silly to go beyond this and start to take actual action in response to the news, but I found that specific take a bit reductive of the fanbase as a whole.
My only issue with this video is he seems to take the stance of dissing the fanbase...the people that this news probably hurt the hardest. It's like way to put the salt in the wound by blaming us for something 99.9% of us weren't involved in and we're all upset by lmao. I would never have done something off the wall like this! And yeah what you're describing is often referred to as empathy pain. It's actually a reason a lot of people don't like watching horror/slasher content. It hurts them to watch someone get butchered. This isn't really different than that. That person felt a strong connection to the band and their music, and their body is reacting to the perceived "loss" of that connection much like grieving. It's 100% normal to feel pain while grieving.

This is absolutely ridiculous. WTF? Whoever did this needs to be prosecuted and punished severely. No one should have their privacy invaded like this. Absolutely unacceptable. I’m not a Sleep Token fan. I’m not familiar with their music and I’m not interested in finding out about it, but as a human being I’m very sorry this has happened.

If the "leaked" birth certificate is legitimate, then any prosecution runs the risk of truly ending the band's anonymity.
We saw it with Ghost and Tobias Forge. Ghost was revealed because of the court case. If one member of Sleep Token was revealed through a court case then it would end up being the whole band in the end.
So right now either Sleep Token reveals it was legitimate (from a safe location) and pressed charges (ending their anonymity) OR they continue to say nothing with the goal being to keep their anonymity while the world wonders if the four birth certificates that were "leaked" are actually legit or not.

This is part of what makes us human. Some of us just have this in us... It doesn't excuse the behavior, but we all need to know and understand this. There's people out there that obsess over a lot of other people, and do things like this. This has always been a thing, and it will continue to be a thing. There's not really any way to stop it. What do others suggest? We track every single one of these people down, and either shut their lights down forever, or lock them away? We're all "crazy" in one way or another. Some us just happen to understand that this kind of behavior, seen in this video, really ain't ok, but we're stable enough to know that. Others aren't... That was kinda messy, but hopefully whoever reads this gets what I'm saying...

I was however kinda shocked by how easy it is to find it online. I just googled it to see what year the issue was and the first thing that popped up was a link to the entire spread.

I myself had never heard of this band before yesterday and I am not interested in knowing anything about them.
There hasn't been a band in years that I have cared to know everything about. Even my favorite bands. I have no idea what the names of even half of Rammstein are. Or Palaye royale. But I understand wanting to know about your favorite bands. I know all the guys names from korn, GNR, Motley Crue etc. Once upon a time, I did care to know. Especially when I was a kid buying all the albums and the magazines. But, never was interested to the point of stalking. I loved Slipknot, but was cool with not knowing who they were. 😂

Possibly worse than leaking a band members birth certificate would be if the leakers were wrong and it was a random guy not involved with the band at all.

I think it's pretty obvious and should be said by everyone with a voice in the matter, that whoever engages in this type of behavior IS NOT A FAN. Fandom's respect and protect creators and content. Fandom's don't destroy the thing the claim to enjoy...stop calling these people "fans". They're trolls, trying to ruin the band and their fans' fun.
Agreed, This is my take too. However it is possible that there are some irrational unhinged people who think themselves fans but chaos and destruction is what always follows them in their wake. Think: Annie Wilkes of Misery.

I actually think this has a wider western society implications. I think this comes from the fact that young men have lost belief in the systems and political apparatus. Peoples identify used to be based largely on national origin and large groups. Ie we were American. However, that has gone away and now we as a group identify more with smaller subcultures that become central to our identify. Young me hav always been the exporter of violence, they will do that but where will it be oriented and for who is the question.

I hate this band but I do feel for them. You could see it coming based on the fanbase online. I know it is probably for their rebrand or whatever, but I'd respect this band so much if they just packed up and told their fans "you don't deserve us."

To give a little perspective from an old dude, this same thing happened with Slipknot. From 96-99 Slipknot intended(at least for a time) to try and remain anonymous and fans stalked them trying to get pictures. It wasn't until Stone Sour that Corey and Jim's faces become widely known and then the others members followed. I'm sure the members were known regionally around Iowa from 92< by friends and mic checks at early gigs but yes, people were obsessive and invasive about it back then. The only difference now is there is easier access to information due to the internet. It's always been a crazy fucked up world in which people do crazy fucked up shit. That is one constant about humans.
