As a local guitarist of slightly above average skill, and minor repute, I am here to be angry and indignified over the lack of (my) inclusion on this list.
With the Dime thing, I'm not going to make excuses for him to using that word. All I'm going to say is that his path to redemption was cut off. Mike Williams from Eyehategod used to wear rebel flags, but he has since denounced them because he does not like the way people feel when they see it. Something he said he knew nothing about until he took a trip to New York and someone told him what it meant to the rest of the country. Dime didn't get that opportunity to learn what that word meant to people not in his vacuum. I think if he was alive today, he would not have been impressed with himself in that moment. He would likely denounce that video and his use of that word. Unfortunately, that opportunity was taken from him, so I don't really see the value of judging Dime in the early 2000s through the lens of today. Especially since he is no longer here. People are complicated. Good people can do awful things. Bad people can do great things.
Amen, man. I think in this modern day and age, we have forgotten as a society that people are so damn complicated. We have lost nuance. I honestly don't think Dimebag was a racist but was just a good-old-boy who grew up saying things he didn't really understand or conceive to be racist and they just became a part of his own personal vernacular, but never meant them in a way that he intended to hurt anyone. I'm not saying being from Texas is an excuse but I've known LOTS of white people in this state who have always been cool with me being Hispanic and with people of other races and who I consider to be great friends but still love the idea of "southern" pride and ways of living. It's complicated and messy but I've known many people like Dimebag that are honestly good people who just say the wrong shit carelessly but without hate or malice.
@@PeteOliva Yeah, I agree. A lot of people don't realize that the Confederate flag wasn't as offensive then as it is now. The shift happened after the riot in Charlottesville. Before that, yes, racists used it as a symbol of racism, but a lot of southern boys just saw it as a symbol of the south. Especially after Lynyrd Skynard used it so much in their imagery. The thing about Dime, he filmed everything. He always had a camera with him. And out of all of the hours of film we have on him, this is the only indiscretion. And the hypocrisy hasn't escaped me. You couldn't play XBox live back in the day without some white dude using that word, but now all of a sudden those people disappeared, and now they clutch their pearls when they hear someone say it, lol.
100% Dude. I don’t condone his use of the word either, but he’s not here to defend himself/take responsibility/make amends etc. And the reason he’s not here is he had his brains blown out onstage 20 years ago. So to go after him in a video and refer to him as “not a cool person” is kind of odd imho. Based on every fan encounter I’ve ever read, Dime was said to be one of the kindest, good-hearted people in music.
Dear Lord, It's just a word. How tf did we as a society get here? What matters is the context of the words we use: was he saying it as an insult at a black guy's face? And let's not forget the double standard; thousands of tiktok videos out there of BLM supporters being ostentatiously racist, but it's no big deal. Do we seek equality or revenge?
I love that you said that about Wes Borland. I was not a fan until literally about 3 months ago. A live show of the band came on and I saw his playing and went down a rabbit hole emerging a fan.
No Mark Tremonti!? The dude was pretty much the pillar of the entire post modern grunge era (Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Cold, Hinder, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, the list goes on). 3 successful bands (Creed, Alter Bridge, Tremonti, guest appearances, and an honorable mention to the Sinatra solo stuff). Influenced a large generation of modern guitarists and basically brought back the guitar solo on modern radio with "Open Your Eyes." Like wtf Finn?! But that aside, thanks for the list, it was fun.
Mark Tremonti ‘tremonster’ is such a technically skilled lead guitarist, who also plays iconic clean intros and awesome riffs! Add to that, he is legit humble and seemingly an all round nice guy, who doesn’t even try to be a glory hound. Great guitar player, and an awesome potential BBQ guest!

Saying he wasn’t a good person just because he said that is a bit far I think. Again, not saying it’s okay. But i have literally never heard a single person who met dime regardless of race or what have you has ever had a bad word to say about the guy. Dimebag was friends with Scott Ian (jewish) and Rocky George (black dude). Plus, the video is from 20 years ago. I don't think he'd still saying shit like that nowadays. Anselmo did WAY WORST 8 years ago and he's now headlining arenas and festivals again. I think people have to stop with the Kerry bashing. Not only did he contribute riffs to several Slayer classics but he was also the sole rhythm guitar player heard on all their albums from Divine to Repentless. And that rebel-flag shirt can't be as bad as Hanneman's Nazi-flag in the Slayer jam room, look it up. How can Mustaine be a racist while having a black guitar-tech for ages?!? Plus I don't think Ice-T would collaborate twice with a racist white guy. Wes Borland, isn't that the dude who was at Manson's house when he was "allegedly" mistreating women but kept his mouth shut for 15 years until the allegations!?! This list was a little rough!!
@@LongLiveRockAnRoll Getting invited to the BBQ has little to do with guitar chops. DeLonge would not be on the S tier. I just commented so Finn is aware of the misinformed opinions he is voicing in this video. It happens.
I used to think Tom Morello was a guitar god, then I learned to play and realized while he is very good at writing groove, he is an overrated player. His politics make me hate his guts. And his interviews seem like a Key and Peele sketch.
I know I'm being a stan here, but Tom Delonge is, in my opinion, legitimately influential. "I miss you" live on pepsi smash, or the "a letter to elise" cover, the way he transcends his technical inabilities with a couple of effect pedals on those performances in particular, is Morello level innovation. He did some truly groundbreaking stuff between 2003 and 2005.
I know I heard the bit about Dime and got sour faced the first time. I wish he would've lived to see and admit the error of his ways if he was truly racist (kinda hard to refute)
Putting dime and dave on the F tier... welp.. done watching your videos... if black people can say the n word all day long then it's just a word at this point... I dont use it myself but at the end of the day if it's so offensive then they wouldn't use it in every sentence themselves
I think communism is about as cool as N@zism, but in terms of Tom Morello's guitar playing Rolling Stone notoriously thought his solo in 'Guerrilla Radio' was a harmonica.
John Mayer is interesting. His fans is in the intersection between mainstream, guitar nerd, music nerd, and become cult artist. Skillwise heis one of the very best, personality wise sober John Mayer seems like really cool person
Not including our lord and savior, MGK, inventor of the guitar, and not obviously putting him in S tier is a crime against humanity. Any video you fail to recognize his holiness is a failure of a video. MGK bless your soul, because MGK is god who invented music and the light bulb and personally took down osama bin laden.
Ok, we're getting quite far through the video. Something is wrong if Mick Thompson and Jim Root aren't included. They work off each other perfectly, Disasterpiece from the Disasterpieces DVD for example. All the noises they make into intros and tracks. Surfacing is another great one, and The Heretic Anthem where Mick is playing and then Jim slides in to join (All Disasterpieces)
It'd be interesting to see if John Sykes (Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Tygers of Pan Tang, etc) would even appear. Heck you'd have to have a search party or milk carton of 'Have you seen me' to even contact him (and finish his solo album).

Wes Borland would be really quiet and overly courteous at the barbecue. If you run out of ribs, he'd offer the ribs off his plate to people who already eaten more than him. David Gilmour is god. Not only is he an S-tier guitarist, he's an S-tier human being all around. He sold his entire guitar collection and donated ALL of the money to fighting climate change. His legendary Black Strat sold for over $4 MILLION USD to some NFL team owner.
The man is pure class in every sense of the word.
I had the pleasure of hanging out with Dimebag on his tour bus a few years before he was killed.
I watched him bring a black homeless dude on the bus and I watched him share his drinks with the guy before stuffing something like 500 bucks in his pocket before sending him off.
Him using the "Hard R" toward a white guy does nothing to sway my opinion of his character.
He's invited to every barbecue I ever throw
You know you've made it when you've been invited to an infamous Finn McKenty tier list barbeque
That take on dime is mind blisteringly dumb.
Agreed he shoulda been more objective why rank guitarist as people and not as artists?
@@someone7068 also as a person there is nothing to be said against dime
@@petergriffin4629I like how he was complaining about crybaby liberals in the beginning and then he literally became exactly that when talking about Dime and Dave Mustaine lmao
@@cosmicbro1973 yes, I really don't get it. I thought we had this shit behind us
Idk about calling Dave a racist based on what he said about Obama. I’d need more. There’s a difference between throwing the N word around and not liking/trusting or saying things about a politician.
Yeah never got the sense that Dave is racist. He's definitely into conspiracy theories though and hey that might actually make for some fun conversations at a BBQ
Dave had black guitar tech for years and is very good friend with ice-t. this guy is stup.d @@lcrawfo2
Also, even if Dimebag still did act like that, it takes away from his guitar skills how?
Womp womp
@@LongLiveRockAnRoll Getting invited to the BBQ has little to do with guitar chops. DeLonge would not be on the S tier.
I just commented so Finn is aware of the misinformed opinions he is voicing in this video. It happens.
The classic "I have a black friend, how can I be racist?"
Agreed, I've noticed the way this guy talks he is definitely woke ASF sadly.
Good list. Good topic. Maybe do keytaruists next
Tim Henson is a real life anime character
I love ALL your tier lists Finn, never stop them. Just hilarious.
Still waiting for the BBQ with Finn Show.
People can't get shit-faced there? What's even the point of having a barbecue then?
I used to think Tom Morello was a guitar god, then I learned to play and realized while he is very good at writing groove, he is an overrated player. His politics make me hate his guts. And his interviews seem like a Key and Peele sketch.
this
But he scratches his guitar strings for a turn table sound.. he's the best ever..
1000% agreed. He’s a D tier player at best and a triple f tier personality.
His politics aren't really a problem compared to how much of a hypocrite he is
I know I'm being a stan here, but Tom Delonge is, in my opinion, legitimately influential. "I miss you" live on pepsi smash, or the "a letter to elise" cover, the way he transcends his technical inabilities with a couple of effect pedals on those performances in particular, is Morello level innovation. He did some truly groundbreaking stuff between 2003 and 2005.
i sleep with my guitar mostly bcuz im too lazy to put it back in the case
I would love to see a ranking of drummers next!
Lol my mom testified against Fruiscante and Keidis in the 90s for sexual harassment against another college student
I love you brother! You're list is amazering😊
It would be cool to just do a tier list about awesome BBQ guests and nothing else. It would be the top of the tier list for tier lists.
0:25 Hey! My guitar has beautiful curves, it hugs me just right.
You are 💯 on Morello. No one wants a Debbie downer at their BBQ
Is this a Reupload? I am having a huge dose of deja vu watching this!
The sysnister Gates dad chat and Kerry king chat seems super familiar?!
I know I heard the bit about Dime and got sour faced the first time. I wish he would've lived to see and admit the error of his ways if he was truly racist (kinda hard to refute)
Kirk Hammet seems like he might be fun
Talking comics and horror movies
Where does this live stream happen?
Twitch
as a black guy, and dimebag being my favorite guitarist I had no idea he said that, but looking back I'm not too surprised, just disappointed
Does it bother you? It's just a word.
@@lidiaspazzardit's more than just a word. It's a respect issue.
@@lidiaspazzard I feel people who say its just a word, are incredibly tone deaf to the context and history of it.

@@lidiaspazzard idc he's already dead, it's just disappointing
Where is Muhammed Suicmez, guys from LoG, Tom Searle, Trey Azagthoth, Matt Bellamy, Dino Cazares and many others?
You had me until you put Dimebag at F tier I respect your opinion but you're wrong
This commenter tunes his guitar to Hard R
HA!
Yeah Pantera is F tier but dime is B tier
Dime shit just fucked me up. Was a HUGE fan until today. Been playing Pantera songs since I was 12. Would he have autographed MY guitar?
Great chill show Finn - cracked me up when you got to Tim Henson’s review! It may be another tier, but the humour and dialogue is still 10/10❤
I'm pretty sure Tom Morello has a hammer and sycle on his guitar to pick at overly sensitive right wingers.
Finn you should do a show titled "THE BARBEQUE"
Tom Morello like the Steve Urkle of guitarists. I wouldn't invite him to my BBQ either.
Tim Henson looks like his voice would crack when you confront him in his fishnet shirt
Putting dime and dave on the F tier... welp.. done watching your videos... if black people can say the n word all day long then it's just a word at this point... I dont use it myself but at the end of the day if it's so offensive then they wouldn't use it in every sentence themselves
Finn after you do videos like this you should post little polls on the community page for us to vote who we think should get to come too.
I think communism is about as cool as N@zism, but in terms of Tom Morello's guitar playing Rolling Stone notoriously thought his solo in 'Guerrilla Radio' was a harmonica.
Hey Finn, have you watched the full NAAM/Dimebag video for context?
Dude you should make your logo a shark fin. That’d be a badass nickname lol
😂😂😂
It should be the shark fin, followed by the Mcdonalds arch + Ken from street fighter + a golf tee
And incorporate “Here’s the thing.”
John Mayer is interesting. His fans is in the intersection between mainstream, guitar nerd, music nerd, and become cult artist. Skillwise heis one of the very best, personality wise sober John Mayer seems like really cool person
And his music is between elevator music and hold music
Not including our lord and savior, MGK, inventor of the guitar, and not obviously putting him in S tier is a crime against humanity. Any video you fail to recognize his holiness is a failure of a video. MGK bless your soul, because MGK is god who invented music and the light bulb and personally took down osama bin laden.
Amen
@@timesh7701 🙏
Ok, we're getting quite far through the video. Something is wrong if Mick Thompson and Jim Root aren't included. They work off each other perfectly, Disasterpiece from the Disasterpieces DVD for example. All the noises they make into intros and tracks. Surfacing is another great one, and The Heretic Anthem where Mick is playing and then Jim slides in to join (All Disasterpieces)
“Dave Mustaine silent on the topic of Metallica” lol
Yea what the hell this dude don't know shit.
Finn: people that want to have conversations about real shit? Fuck that. I want surface-level conversations at my gatherings.
I wouldn’t want you at my bbq. ✊🏾
It'd be interesting to see if John Sykes (Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Tygers of Pan Tang, etc) would even appear. Heck you'd have to have a search party or milk carton of 'Have you seen me' to even contact him (and finish his solo album).
Finn forgot that Jeff Hanneman would collect German Nazi memorabilia and on one of his guitars on the neck he would have the SS logos 😆but killer guitarist and rip to him.
WWII memorabilia that includes nazbol stuff=cool
WWII memorabilia that ONLY includes nazbol stuff=sketchy
"I just like their fashion and style guys, I promise"
You guys have lost the point of everything.
Can we do a video for the drummers?
Yes!
Finn: "How are we still having this conversation?"
Almost every popular song of the last 30 years: "n***a n***a n***a n***a n***a n***a n***a n***a n***a"
Ik plenty of white dudes who say it to each other.
@JoeBlanton-wq3sm ...and it's not that big of a deal. Sorry, just not. Maybe promote the word through black music a little less, and we wouldn't be here 🤷
Wes Borland would be really quiet and overly courteous at the barbecue. If you run out of ribs, he'd offer the ribs off his plate to people who already eaten more than him. Then during charades he'd go absolutely wild.
Tim Henson would steal your wife and end up in a committed forty year marriage with her.
Where's nu metal tier list 3 Finn? Need to see how Saliva Static X and Adema stack up!
What I really want out of this channel is a Barbecue Grill and Accessories tier list
I didnt even know you played the guitar.
hes empedastlement
I worked at a guitar store and we did a clinic with Ibanez and polyphia. I will say the polyphia dudes are so funny and definitely make of fun themselves and music stuff. Would recommend inviting them
tom morello is certainly the "mass murder is ok as long as the perpetrator claims to be anti western" kind of guy
Tankie
Finn, my dude…. your down to earth intellect is what makes you approachable, intriguing and more likely to buy you a drink and get to you.
Me: my father was in a Soviet labor camp. His neighbor snitched on him for owning a pair of American jeans. It was dark and we narrowly escaped after the state collapsed.
Tom Morello: “ACKHYUALLY….”
Next do a Guitar Virtuosos one. With Yngwe Malmsteen, Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc..
This is a great series he could really do a lot of them. I would like to add Rob Zombie and Lil Wayne to the list of potential guests.
Tom Morello: A tier guitar abilities, z tier personality. Strangely enough this is a common trend among guitarists...I'm a guitarist.
I dont know guitars and dont know if its very technical stuff but Four Year Strong guitars always stood out to me.
Do you want tom morello coming to the barbecue? Absolutely fucking NOT
Hes the most over rated guitar player I can think of.
@@sole__doubt no kidding. if you want guitarists with actual talent that use strange devices, then VanHalen and Frampton were several leagues above Morello in the talent department.
@@fu102 Yeah I dont think Finn even plays so I dont know why he thinks he can judge players. You dont hear me saying who the best drummer is because I dont play the drums so I dont know what Im talking about.
Another awesome video
Why is Finn's definition of a good looking guy someone who looks like they're 12 and androgynous?
would you prefer him to define handsome as a 6'4 lumberjack build mewing? lol
As a 37 year old average female, I find Tim Henson to be one of the only very good looking younger men out there. 💁♀️
