I loved the PD's. CRs were more refined but nothing beats the unbelievably sudden nature of a unit injectors responsiveness. I just went back to a diesel again all these years after a PD and it's just a technological nightmare of bolt on crap and soot that contaminates the oil. The PDs weren't refined, they weren't technically the most economical but I found that they closest matched the published figures but boy are they durable and tunable! MK2 Fabia vRS was unbelievably unreliable with the twincharger TSI 😢
I had a 85kW PD blow a head gasked only by tuning it to 96kW with everything being stock. Wouldn't call that reliable, since a bosch-pump TDI can handle that power increase no problem
@@gkgameplayczhonestly, I would just say you had bad luck or that things were heading that way anyway. People even tuned the 1.4 PD that they put in the Audi A2 and the SKODA Fabia, essentially 1 cylinder lopped off. Their bottom end bearings or even the entire side of the casing could blow out from a remap. There are many iterations of the PD. So many different engine codes. Some with different turbos and some that probably deal with extra stress better than others
@@gkgameplaycz My own personal experience was remapping my Octavia Elegance DSG estate which while being a high end model it got paired with the 105ps PD rather than the 2.0 140/170CRs available. Nice to see tuned diesels but the amount of smoke they are emitting would embarrass the hell out of me! My tuned B7 Passat still has the DPF it’s quick but under the radar lol
Yeah agreed, not only does it look bad, I always feel torn about these things as they are putting out a ridiculous level of toxic gasses. I'm a complete petrol head but struggle to accept these things should be on the road. I followed one a few months ago on my motorbike and it was awful as it went through the busy town centre where there were lots of kids walking home and making folk breath in that crap isn't on in my book. I overtook the VRS as soon as the road opened up rather than sit behind it any longer, although I got an extra soot covering as the driver decided to try and block my overtake by flooring it.
@Lee what a wanker, pretty sure he'd get done for obstruction/dangerous driving for speeding up when someone is overtaking, I only done that once as I slowed down a tiny bit to show my kids some Christmas lights and some dick in a Fiesta tried overtaking me just as I was speeding up, I couldn't take the embarrassment of being overtaken by a bog standard non ST model Fez 😂 not just that but he was doing it in a knob way driving right up to my bumper then pulling out, well deserved I think. Anyway, I agree with your comment about the environment, I to am a petrol head but seeing all that smoke as you say going through built up areas with kids is horrendous, it's just as bad as driving 60+ in a 30mph zone in my books, well said.
