There's only certain game's i bought that had that stupid microtransaction and yes even dlc. And I was a idiot for even bothering with it for example.
      1. Cod 2019
      2. Final fantasy 14
      3. Halo 3&4 and yes i know it only had dlc but I hated those practices so I stay far from these.
      4. Gears of War 1-3 same with Halo 3&4 dlc maps i never even bothered with the new Gears of war games 4&5.
      5. Cod game's from the past in 360&ps3 that had dlc I hated these practices so much that slowly I started to walk away from it and I'm glad i did.
And that's pretty much it the only mmo game I bought was only final fantasy 14 and I must say it was fun and addictive. But unfortunately I was getting sick and tired of paying for subscription so I made a hard call and I stop playing the game from that day forth including Cod 2019 I told myself never again. I will tell you these game's are fun but very addictive and companies love taking advantage. And let's not forget about battlefield game's like 3&4 after battlefield 4 I was done with it didn't bother with battlefield 1&5 or even the last one that came out. Yep that's pretty much it. I wish I stop sooner and stayed clear from these game's. Now I buy certain game's that I would play and enjoy. We'll I least I didn't buy those sports game's lol I heard many stories about them.

One of the worst parts about the lack of pushback for anti-consumer buisness practices in the games industry:
Nowdays many gaming fanbases often call people who DO push back "entitled complainers who are being mean to the devs" "just enjoy things"

I'm not against spending more money on a game that I already own. I just remember when it involved going to the game store, which still sold PC games at the time (yes, I'm old), and buying an "expansion pack" on a disc.
I play American Truck Simulator. For $7, I got the basegame (California, Nevada, and Arizona) and the New Mexico DLC bundled together in 2018. I have since spent $150 or so on map DLC for the 12 states they've added since then. SCS Software has a LOT of players like that; if the "% of players with the achievement" stats are anything to go by, something like one in 300 to one in 500 of their players are still buying new map DLC (based on the achievements for visiting every city in the DLC state.) Their highly engaged playerbase makes them profitable, and they do sell cosmetic DLC like paint jobs and tuning packs as well. At no point does it ever feel "greedy". It's just old-school "give the people who love your game most a good value for their money and they'll keep coming back."

Great content! New companies (especially indies) need to be ok with what they can make from game sales. If you don't go down this path you won't become dependent on it. My games should never need the crazy revenue that can come from this kind of IAP. I have a targeted line of what the company needs to make (not a drooling grin about what it could possibly make).

  • @HenkkaArtGames

One additional aspect of modern gaming sucks: developers and publishers have corporatized cheat codes. They are no longer random button combinations you have to learn from your friends or online, there is no more IDDQD or IDKFA that you just type into the game while you are playing the game. Now it's all about completing certain tasks or finding a number of collectibles and you are awarded with the OPTION to turn cheats on. I was so bummed out about Doom: Eternal that it had gone the same route where you have to activate cheats from a menu and that you have to basically earn them first. And even though the game is excellent, these decisions feel like the developers don't want you to have fun your way. They want to curate that fun and safeguard the sanctity of those precious platform achievements!

Question: Since microtransaction make up 70% of a companies revenue what are some ways to make a game have a fair microtransaction system that is both good for the player and company?
Helldivers 2 is a game that comes to mind, where you can buy cheap and fair priced microtransactions to get warbonds and shop armour sets, but by just playing the game you can still purchase all these warbonds and shop armour sets for free. However, I don't believe this model will suit every game, especially the multi million dollar goliaths

I've never put value on these skins tbh, I no longer care because I'm straight up not putting a penny into them. At least with CS they can be resold. I actually got dropped one like 10 years ago and it ballooned to £1k in value, so I sold it and bought 2 Steam Decks. I'll happily run around in default skins, though I do appreciate for the kids it's probably a lot of peer pressure forcing you to buy some skins for these games to "look cool"

  • @easutube

I'll never buy them again. I made a rule a couple years ago now. I'm tired of funding their greed, it allows them to release virtually no good content in games, they only put effort in cosmetics and store items and the total game experience suffers. As long as these weak people continue to pay them, nothing will change. Just look at D4 and D immortal and even WoW these days. I flat outright abuse and /ignore anyone who bought the Brutosaur.

  • @MasterMemo

Can't be understated how much more you can make from a person by asking for 1 dollar a day for 10 years than 100 dollars a year in that same period. Not only is it easier to part wirh a couple dollars at a time, but also some people just might not have the bigger sums to part with.
Still, i think games missed out on being consumer friendly AND making more money by having solid unlockable content to go with the purchased stuff. At any rate, I dont mind the extra purchases if a) it's all cosmetic, b) there is free, earnable stuff, and c) the games are actually fun

You have teens now that grew up on microtransactions. When a millennial complains about microtransactions, these teens will say "It's apart of the game". When a person says "You can earn credits by just playing the game, you know that person is who these big companies love. Earning credits playing a game is a free2play mechanic, but when they put something like that in a paid game, they implement manipulative tactics, like making the person grind like hell or pay money, even though they just bought the game. Or there's the day one DLC, which is straight up cut out content from the full game and sold back to the player. The player buys content they should of got by buying the game. It's disgusting that there's no laws against this stuff. If a person received a pizza after paying for it and it had no topping, then the shop says you can have topping for extra $. That shop would be fined for misleading the customer.
I completely stopped playing EA and Ubisoft games because of their greed. I did play Anno 1800, only because it didn't have greedy microtransactions. I will buy India games these days because I know there's no munipulation tactics. I loved Far Cry, Assasins creed, total war, mostly all the big AAA games, but I just don't buy them anymore. I don't even get excited for a new AAA game anymore because I know there will be munipulation tactics in them. It's sad when a Indie game comes out that people love, then it's picked up by a big company and the sequel is filled with microtransaction, that sucks.
Luckily us old school gamers have Indie games to keep us interested in gaming. The creativity is coming from Indie developers. Ubisoft is the first to fall because of their greed, but many more will follow. Indie games will save gaming.

What I find so sad about microtransactions is how it's targeting vulnerable people, be it because they are kids and thus immature or because they have an addictive behavior. Paying 25-100 dollar during a few years of playing F2P game is ok, but we know most gamers pay zero while a small share are whales - addicts - spending tens of thousands of dollar.

I propose get DEEPER into what all this means... Did anyone realized about how normal is "gambling" randomness and bet in games that are directed to families and child, the overused "Dice" in many games and the people that is accustomed to go a lot to places that have a pay to use services like cinemas, certain arcade games, etc...
MANY people is accustomed to pay already for not so useful or worth things, now with videogames, and the many psychological strategies and artist united (Plus human stupidity) came up to what is the gaming industry, specially "biggest" games and gacha games (some are also big, like the HOYO gambling experiences behind a cool setting that looks not so boring or "grind appeal" hahaha)
Edit: ah yes, just like gamers did in the past... Yeah, still being a success... So... F...

Battlepasses, tasks you must complete with a deadline and you have to PAY to do them, instead of getting paid for your time. Gamers truly deserve the misery we have allowed into our lives. I would rather pay twice up front for a complete game that replaces macrotransactions with actual decent gameplay and story content, but releases are so broken/overhyped these days it's better to wait for bargain bin 3 years later. Godspeed AA indie studios, we need you.

  • @krisclem8290

One factor that goes even deeper is piracy.
I have seen the data. Most games in the last 20 years have tracking software in it. And even the cracked ones don’t remove that.
And on average, the install versus sold copy is 20 to 1
That means if only 10% of all pirates would buy a legal copy, the Studio would double its revenue.
A lot of bigger games in the last 20 years barely made breakeven .
This has led to companies switching to more sinister monetisation models, closing, getting sold, or replacing management with people who don’t care about games but about revenue.
It is as people always said since the 90s
If you pirate everything one day, they won’t make good games anymore .
Now it happened, and everyone has to live with Shit games that are only optimise for making money

After all, while I very strongly detest them, I don't really oppose them, IF the game and the menus run otherwise nicely for those who don't pay... at least I don't get "tricked" into spending money (unless there are unlawful one-click tricks). Of course the game working extra nicely even with microtransactions would be rare though, and there's much nuance. I don't quite get the people who do microtransactions, I feel they wouldn't be even good friends for me. Anyway, these "whales" (and a contimuum) exist, it's what they want perhaps, so why not give them something. Although it's not that simple; it's kind of the same with many gambling things, it's often people who have other problems too and spending money on "games" can make their state worse in many ways. But I'm not sure if some people can be protected from theirselves anyway... but young people at least should be much more protected. Then again many (adults) also have some extra money, and if it then means that the games can be sold cheaper for poorer people, maybe it's a good thing. I wonder if there could even be different versions of the same game... one with and another without microtransactions? I wonder if it could work.

So what can we do about this? Not buy these micro transaction filled games and only buy good quality games? Does anyone have a list of good games because I constantly see “gaming is still great you’ve just gotta play the right games” but I need a list. (I also don’t want any 2d platform games lol)

I honestly don't mind microtransactions as long as they are cosmetic only and not pushed in your face. 'The Finals' has done this really well.

the argument that the companies are "forced" to include and to rely on microtransactions is an extremely weak one. no one forced the company to become a publically traded asset on the stock market. no one forced them to scale up as fast as they have so that they use up all the revenue and extra than they've created in sales alone. its greed. they could just use the money they earn every release to make a new game and scale up the company reliably within their means.
and im sorry but you are a bad person if you do bad things like using manipulation tactics. it doesn't matter what your reasoning behind a bad deed is. its still bad. just like slavers used to make the same argument that "they needed slaves to create a competetive bussiness". we can rationalize our bad behaviours all we like, but it does'nt make them any better. ofcource im not saying that your friend is inherently a bad person, we are all products of our environment and no one is born evil. but we need to be aware of when we excuse bad behaviour because we like the person. we need to on a societal level change our atitude and acceptense towards manipulative tactics among other things and make people aware of it and how it effects people so that big companies can't use such tacticsand take advantage of varnurable people.

    My opinion
If the game is free, add all the microtransactions you want, put ads, whatever you want, after all you didn't pay anything for it.
Now, if the game is paid, then I think it should be illegal for you to charge extra in the game, you already paid for the game and shouldn't be charged again for anything.
