Ukrainian Ex-Convicts Are Ready To Fight for Ukraine’s Freedom: From Prison to Frontline
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- In May, President Zelenskyy signed a bill allowing convicts to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Currently, various ‘Brigades’ are hurrying to recruit potential fighters from prisons across the country. Inmates are highly motivated and well disciplined, making them perfectly suited to become soldiers. But how is this different from the notorious Russian “Storm Z” or PMC Wagner, who also recruited prisoners, and why are these men highly motivated?

Ukrainian men cant even leave the country
In Finland we had the same thing in 1939. The Black Arrow they called it. Those few who were "red" deserted, but the rest were excellent fighters.

Yeah, kinda ironic. They already achieved some freedom in some way.
It's not freedom if they are forced to go to war and can't leave the country.

@@Hitori-h9g - It would have been nice if you had clarified your statement. Now you seem to confuse individual freedom with a person's ability to do whatever they want. Like taking someone else's car or house. In a democracy, people have to follow common rules of conduct (called "laws" and "regulations") set by the government. The difference with a dictatorship is that in a democracy, everyone not only has the right to participate in the election of lawmakers, but also to take part in the debate (including demonstrations) about the common rules. Nevertheless, even in a democracy, citizens do not have absolute freedom. Unfortunately, over time, some citizens forget this basic principle. Laws and regulations are decided together, and this is also true of representative democracy.
@@Hitori-h9g It was volunteered, no one forced the convicts to sign up even the Wagner. If they have to die, at least they die for their country.

Just because someone was imprisoned does not make them a bad person. In the USA it's hard to find someone that hasn't been to jail atleast once in their lifetime. People make mistakes, it's what you do after to redeem yourself that matters. Atlot of prisoners actually have useful stills, so why not let them enlist. I think this is a great program, as long as it's not like Russia & using a life just for meat.
Agree with your sentiment but the claim saying most Americans have been to jail is nonsense.
@@FunHog69 I guess it depends on your region, here on the east coast around Philadelphia it's hard to find someone that hasn't been to jail, even if it's just for a few hours.
Thats right. even in Australia between Between 1788 and 1868 was was hard to find someone without criminal record

Russia recruiting prisoners = "theyre desperate for menpower"
Ukraine recruiting prisoners = "these people are patriots"
This removes a lot of context. Russia is the aggresor here, additionally Russia started using convicts way before Ukraine has, a country with a lower manpower.
@@TaxEvader08 but still, would ukraine recruit these people if theyre not desperate for menpower?...and calling them patriots just because they prefer open air than prison is a bit too much
You cannot invade rusha with small numbers of men, that should be obvious, even to a smooth brain.
@@TaxEvader08 men are escsping ukraine due to fear of forced conscription. Its why there is resort to prisoners
@@muwazhibukoka9365 not really the main reason, sure thats annoying but its mostly just due to many not wanting to and the govt not in favor of increasing the draft numbers either. drafts are very unpopular unless its got more support. people that flee are a very small minority. like if they really wanted manpower, they have to just drop the age by 1 and they have access to half a million people. they dont want to though.

Hypocrisy
Cope is crazy
Well...hmmm... I noticed that this brigade is stationed at Chasiv Jar and Toretsk. The absolute worst places at the front right now. Their risk getting killed is probably much bigger than in other fronts.
@@ingemarsjoo4542 nope Ukraine values thier soldiers lives
bro...with 60 days of training? what makes you think they have a chance? both russians and ukrainians are getting their shit pushed in equally. russia has air superiority and sending thousands of gps guided glide bombs each month and have a drone advantage and a huge artillery advantage but at the same time are getting fucked because theyre mostly the ones pushing for more territory. if these guys are being used as storm troopers then they are toast.
Recuting a prisoner to defend your country is not the same as Recuting prisoners to invade another country ,don't be foolish.😎
As long as they sign up and are given actual training and equipment, I get it. Its painful, as some of them should not be back on the streets, but a deal is a deal. I can only hope that their motivation translates to after the war. I can only assume they will not be cannon fodder. A prisoner should only be given their punishment, nothing more or less. Even if they sign up for this, sending them into a death sentence would be morally wrong.
dpends how you define "cannon fodder"... the video did mention they would likely be put in high risk places
@@chocolates182 "Cannon fodder" or sacrifice troops are troops that are sent in with the clear intention that they will not return. For instance, if one knows an area is mined and troops are sent in to "find a way trough" by triggering the mine, they are it. Alternatively, sending waves of troops to be ended with the purpose of straining the enemy and no tactical goal besides that, it is also fodder. Sending people on a mission with a high chance of termination on the other hand is not fodder, if the actual goal is the success of the mission (unless the mission is to end those soldiers, that would obviously be fodder). So even if there is a 75% failrate, its not cannon fodder by definition, it depends on the reasoning of the mission, and leaders can play around with the term, making it somewhat problematic.

Reminded me of Unit 684 of South Korea comprised of convicts, allegedly。Except that the trainees were trained under brutal and inhumane condition。 The unit's original mission was to assassinate Kim il Sung in late 60s (the grandfather of Kim Jong Un)。However,as inter-Korea relations warmed in early 70s,unit 684 became irrelevant as time passed。Until the trainees launched their mutiny against their trainers and hijacked a bus in their way to Blue House in 1971。Their mutiny crushed by the authorities in the aftermath。
There was a movie about them, i saw it back in the early 2000’s. Kinda sad.

In WW2 there were similarities. The French Army ran a punishment battalion in 1930s North Africa called "Bats d' Afrique which "handled" (as in constantly brutalized) inmates who had missed their conscription callups because they were serving prison sentences, or were soldiers/ Foreign Legion members who had been caught being especially naughty.
To everyone's surprise, most were very patriotic and quickly became very competent fighters. The only problem was they had to be kept "fully occupied" in the thick of activity at all times or they tended to drift back into their old unhelpful thought processes.
