It just goes to show that the music industry is difficult & has it's shortcomings when it comes to letting the brightest bulbs shine. India is such a talented & inspirational woman who can put words to music & make you cry, laugh, think & inspire the soul deep down in a way that's unexplainable & appreciated.
FInally she won a grammy. She should more grammys 6 years. She deserve it.
Yes, India.Arie deserves so many more grammys, but she definately knows that she's bigger than any of that! She is a Light that can not be hidden! There are thousands of insecure little girls who find STRENGTH, COURAGE & WISDOM through her music; and because of it they walk boldly in their new found security and confidence. Video,Brown Skin,He Heals Me,Chocolate High and the beautiful remake of Heart of the Matter are songs which i have listened to over and over...she is the only,in my opinion,black artist who truly truly LOVES the skin she's in,makes proud to be a black woman.
i also was impressed by the fact that she made it known her Mom made her dress.
i believe her mother makes all or most of her clothes that's excellent ! CONGRATULATIONS INDIA ! YOU ARE MY FAVOURITE SECULAR ARTIST ! and you deserve it !

Yooooooo! I so remember that! It sent shock waves through the industry. It slightly did hurt India’s feelings. Shit it would bother any for that matter! “Songs in A Minor” ( Alicia’s first album) to me was boo boo trash, and that’s just where I put it. I was like “she ain’t gonna last” she is just a pretty piano player! India deserved better. They could have acknowledged her that year waaaaaay better. Damn give her at least one. Glad she kept fighting. Goes to show she is not in it for recognition. She is here to create beautiful soul music. A definite lack in the industry today.

I hate to compare musicians who are not in the same category, but Beyonce is a performer first; Indie is an artist first. That makes a tremendous difference in the kind of music that comes out of you.
