This song was actually at first to be a filler song when the band needed about a 4 minute song to finish the album and ironically it became the title track song.
if i remember the story correctly, it was all written and recorded in under an hour , with Ozzy pacing around between takes reading/rehearsing the lyrics yammering "what the bloody hell is 'paranoid'" 😅
The original album title was War Pigs, the record company changed the title when they heard the song Paranoid but never remade the cover. So we have an album called Paranoid with a guy dressed up as a pig on the front 😅
The last line of the song caused a lot of controversy back in the day which Ozzy talked about in his Live & Loud video. The lyric is, "I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could but it's too late." Back then, lyrics weren't readily available and the internet wasn't even a dream yet. People misunderstood Ozzy's British accent and thought he was singing, "I tell you to end your life, I wish I could but it's too late". Of course that wouldn't be the only time that lyrics being misunderstood would haunt Ozzy. It would happen again with Ozzy's song "Suicide Solution" on his Blizzard of Ozz album. The lyric was using British slang that wasn't understood in American English. The lyric is, "You gotta, get those flaps out." Ozzy's voice was put through a filter for that part of the song, so it was even more difficult to understand for the people who were unfamiliar with his voice and accent. They took him to court when a kid took his life and the parents found that tape in the kids tape deck. Their lawyer said that the lyric was "Get the gun, shoot shoot shoot." Obviously, Ozzy won the court case, but it emphasizes the necessity to understand what's being said in music. The first line of that song told the whole tale, "Wine is fine, but whiskey's quicker. Suicide is slow with liquor." Being written by an alcoholic like Ozzy, those words held meaning. Sorry for rambling on here, Ozzy is an incredible guy. I've gotten to meet him twice.
There's a lot to be said for this entire band being true pioneers in the history of music. This album made history. These guys practically invented heavy metal. They were pretty much the first to do it. I gotta tip my hat to them for daring to go where no band had gone before, at this point in time. Without them, I'd be left without a genre that serves as a lifeline to me. An entire style of music I rely on when no one else and nothing else is there for me. So I salute them.
I think this is a great time to suggest some more Pink Floyd for this channel. There are very few bands that write so many song about the realities of life. That is what Pink Floyd is about. And so I highly recommend doing a Reaction of Pink Floyd-High Hopes.
the fact that this song has such a driving force to it, for me it always felt like life ruthlessly chugging along and seeming like you can never just stop for a while to even catch your breath.
This was written by the bass player Geezer Butler and it's a reflection of his personal experience growing up, and not understanding that he was going through depression. Black Sabbath talking about mental health in 1970 in what was a hit single! Can I recommend, like others have, Megalomania. Not only is the subject matter appropriate for this channel, it wall also show you that Sabbath weren't all about 3 minute pop songs 😊

Great reaction. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole with these guys, the first song is "Black Sabbath" on the first album Black Sabbath. It starts out like an old horror movie with rain and thunder and an old bell tolling in the background. It's sort of a true story about Gezer Butler the bassist and lyricist. He had been dabbling with the occult, until one night he had a nightmare where he saw a big dark shape at the foot of his bed who he thought was the devil. He told him if he wasn't going to follow him completely to get out now. Well, the next day he got up and went all through his apartment getting rid of all the occult paraphernalia and put-up crosses. He told Ozzy about what happened, and Ozzy made a song out of it, and they called it "Black Sabbath". Thanks again for the great reaction.
All the more impressive if you consider that they slapped this song together in about 20 mins. And if you want to hear Black Sabbath really get into another side of mental illness, listen to their masterful "Megalomania."
Other songs which deal with Teenage or young people's depression are "The Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring. "Don't Try Suicide" by Queen. "Nobody's Home" by Avril Lavigne. Lyrics by bassist Geezer Butler, who often used to write about serious issues. When other bands were writing shallow love & breakup songs, they did one where a friend gives someone actually sensible relationship advice _(St_ _Vitus_ _Dance)._ They did one of the all-time classic anti-war songs _(War_ _Pigs)._ Even some of their drug songs have a thoughtful edge, though they are not my favourites lyrically.
Despite the lyrics and the subject of feeling alone and helpless these songs showed a lot of us that there are others that go through the same things and we are not alone at all. Which makes it in turn a little easier to talk about in my opinion
Ozzy headbanging before it was even called that. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin all bringing different angles to what would become Heavy Metal.

Three days ago it was "One" by Metallica, and now it's Black Sabbath's "Paranoid"! You are discovering all of my favorite heavy metal songs lately! 😊 You mentioned being elated seeing Ozzy Osbourne smiling as he sang. That's the fundamental paradox of Black Sabbath: they wrote such gloomy lyrics and ominous music, but somehow it just makes listeners (and the band) happy. This song was actually a last minute jam to fill a few extra minutes on their second album. It ended up being one of their biggest hits. The record company pressured the band to change the album title to Paranoid, because they feared that the working title, taken from another song from the album, "War Pigs," would be too controversial. This was during the Vietnam War era, and record executives thought that War Pigs as the album title could lead to distribution problems or even public backlash in the United States. And so we got the Paranoid album, which is one of the most important albums in metal history. I'm glad you enjoyed this! 😊
Such an amazing song. If you need a song that sounds really epic, I can recommend IRIS with Why Do We Hold (Resurrection) This song is one of the first single part of the album, Heart Of An Artist: Resurrection. The song is questionable. Despite everything you've gone through in terms of beaten to a pulp emotionally manipulated all this stuff and asking why do we still hold on
Not a lot of thought or effort went in to the making of this song. They needed a short song to fill up space in the album and they knocked this out in a couple of days. Tony Iommi (guitar) came up with a riff and Geezer Butler (bass) came up with the lyrics. Ozzy had to read the lyrics when they recorded it. A stranger song that they did was the self titled song "Black Sabbath". Butler, obsessed with the occult at the time, painted his apartment matte black and placed several inverted crucifixes and pictures of Satan on the walls. Ozzy Osbourne gave Butler a black occult book, written in Latin and decorated with numerous pictures of Satan. Butler read the book and then placed it on a shelf beside his bed before going to sleep. When he woke up, he claims he saw a large black figure standing at the end of his bed, staring at him. The figure vanished and Butler ran to the shelf where he had placed the book earlier, but the book was gone. Butler related this story to Osbourne, who then wrote the lyrics to the song based on Butler's experience.
The lyrcis make me feel like I'm the psychiatrist in my office listening to the poor patient laying on the sofa.. .Good closing statements/reaction! I've been lucky enough to have an Archery range in the woods near me to relieve anxiety..a few hours in nature and shooting well ( especailly when ya make long-distance " Trick-shots") just soothes my worries away, And I come home ready to deal with any hassles I may have going on.

Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin invented Hard-Rock, they are pure geniuses vocally and instrumentally spoken it is what is best in the genre, these 3 groups will remain in the collective memory as was classical music, Elvis for rock or Michael Jackson for pop

Love your analysis! Want some more thought provoking lyrics, try reacting to RUSH! Limelight, The Garden are two pretty deep ones, with the lyrics written by the drummer, Neil Peart, RIP!
A proper working class band and from my part of the world. Working class voices and culture are usually shut out in this era of middle class offence culture and because of he expense involved, working class music is much rarer today than in Sabbath's time.
Amanda it Erik I wrote u a while back. I do work and I'm staying at a motel and I'm homeless but I have been at my job for six months. I stay with a friend but he don't work he lazy. I go to valeo for nine years. But they didn't listen to me. I felt like. Ty for your time.
Not related to a mental problem, but yes in a way--A great source of inspiration. Watch how Black Sabbath's guitarist found the mental strength to overcome a physocal problem (almost disability) to get something positive out of it. It's a very short animation on his early history. I leave it here for you to watch only (not asking for a reaction), it's up to you if you think it's worth it: ua-cam.com/video/YL9dWxkP8Qo/v-deo.html. Have a nice day.
I have always hated the feeling of paranoia. Especially when I talk too people and I dont know what they think of me. It brings out my self delt that maybe they dont like me or they think very little of me. All my life ive just wanted people too accept me but very little do and that leads too me sort of hating myself.
Hey guys. I got ina wreck with my car. A week ago and the insurance company is fking me around. My car can drive but the alimantent is hard to Steeler when I'm driving...

Me again, I don't see a video on your channel to the song "Bother" by Stone Sour. When you get the chance give it a listen. Even if you don't make a video about it. That song will bring a tear to anyone's eye unless they're a robot..
I don't know if this is the place to recommend the Elton John song. "I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself". An odd song about teenage suicide but with an upbeat melody that includes tap dancing. BTW I saw a very odd song book the other day. It was called "Black Sabbath For Yukele". Finally, now you too can learn to play "Paranoid" on the Yukele as it was meant to be played!😉 Not so far fetched as the rock band, Queen recorded a song on the Yukele called "Good Company".
Back in the late 90s, when scientists first learned to fully breakdown the human genome, one of the very first people they did was Ozzy Osbourne. (I mean like one of the first five or ten.) This is understandable. They were curious why this guy is still alive, after all the drugs and alcohol he has done? Well they found out, it is because Ozzy Osbourne is officially Neanderthal. I mean a lot higher percentage Neanderthal than they ever thought still existed in our gene pool.
there's a band i'd like to introduce you to that i believe you would quite enjoy .... The Warning! ⚠ for you and your channel in particular, i want to start you with the song _When I'm Alone_ , i would really enjoy getting your take on it. (there is an official lyric video if you'd prefer that ; but the Live at Teatro Metropolitan is a really good version if you'd prefer the live performance) after that, when you're feeling in a strong enough mood to endure an "ugly cry", you might look at their song _Black Holes_ ; i feel like you could have a lot to say on it. (live @ Dakota Bar is really good ... there's no official video version, i don't think) and then, if you're feeling really ambitious, there is the entire album called _Queen of the Murder Scene_ , which is a concept story album that follows the downward spiral of a woman driven crazy by unrequited love -- it's a great character study. anyways, thanks for the content. i really appreciate the project you got going on here.
Music by the great lead guitarist, Tony Iommi (eye-OWE-me), and lyrics by the great bassist, Geezer (Terry) Butler. Iommi wrote this in about 20 minutes to fill in some extra album time. 1970!

For me the big problem of eveything these days, not just support systems for fellow humans, is money... support systems (psychiatry, etc) costs a bomb! No money - nobody helps. Capitalistic societies have their bnefits, but socialising, humanity and help just ain't free services. But should be. 🤨

Found out I may have testiclular cancer. I'm giving up. Not worth fighting anymore. Health is shit my fiancee isn't sure she can take care of me during treatment. I lived a great life. Volbeat-last day under the sun. Great song. I did a karaoke of volbeats song Lola Montez but fit my fiancees name in place of of Lola Montez. And putting a 5 cillable rhythm in a 4 cillable spot. Feel the fire where she walks Lola Montez so beautiful full. Replaced with Jessica Hell is so beautiful her last name is close enoght to saying hell is so beautiful flows smoothly I may do a recording next time I go to the bar. Saw volbeat and Slipknot at montage mountain in 2018 or 19 forget went to so many just seen mudvaine. I need help. Hell my fiancee already called Lehigh county crisis center and my parole officer the last I relapsed and got suicidal. I'm hiding from the world. The adventure is over. Last train of the day.
Facing a possible cancer diagnosis and feeling unsupported is overwhelming, and it’s understandable to feel like giving up. However, it’s important to remember that reaching out for help shows strength. You’ve taken a significant step by sharing your feelings, and that’s not something to overlook. Your fiancé calling the crisis center indicates that there are people who care deeply about you and want to support you through this difficult period. She is likely just as scared as you and is panicking on how she can be who you need. I know I would feel that way! I would highly suggest talking to a support group for cancer patients. I believe that could help you feel less alone and more understood. As for the music and the memories you’ve shared, they show that you have a lot of passion and creativity. Music can be a powerful way to express emotions and cope with difficult times. If recording a song or performing helps you, I love that for you and encourage you to pursue that! Remember, even when things seem bleak, there are people and resources available to help you through. If you're feeling like there's no way out, please consider contacting a mental health professional immediately. Your life has value, and I care if your light goes out.
Amanda I see you read my comments. But if you could react to my wintersun suggestions that I left for you because I didn't get a reply for them so please send me a reply back on what you think. Thank you your new subcriber wintersun Alex ❄️👋❤️

Thank you... really.
You're right Ozzy looks very young here 💯
Sad part being I know Ozzy is going to live forever. Archaeologists will be digging up our bones, while they listen to Ozzy gripe in the radio!
Hi Amanda, You are amazing and you look amazing as well
The lyrcis make me feel like I'm the psychiatrist in my office listening to the poor patient laying on the sofa.. .Good closing statements/reaction! I've been lucky enough to have an Archery range in the woods near me to relieve anxiety..a few hours in nature and shooting well ( especailly when ya make long-distance " Trick-shots") just soothes my worries away, And I come home ready to deal with any hassles I may have going on.
❤️🐇🌈 yes music can and often does help
I love your videos and Im not blessed enough to join your Patreon but maybe by chance you will see this. You have saved a life more than once just with your experiences and advice. Thank you. If I should by jaytekz would be a powerful blind reaction. Keep up the positive vibes.
If I ever get married I want my first dance to be to the end of their song Symptom of the Universe. It's a shame that part is so short. It should be a whole song.
The lyrics to this are so often overlooked
I loved your reaction !!!! This is my favorite Sabbath song ! You should check out Liliac's cover of this song ! It's oit of this world ! Have a wonderful day ! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Absolutely awesome reaction to a very well to the point song as OZZY does!!! 2 things:
#1 calling all Patreon to recommend the song BREAKDOWN by the Alan Parsons Project. Right up your area 🙂
#2 I'm surprised you haven't done THE WALL album in its entirety as it deals with mental strife from Birth to childhood, WAR, and being in a Rock Band!! I think those would make a great journey!! I Like Your Style Lady!! Noticed some interesting content on your channel!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Such a classic and love the song and lyrics, a friend's gf thought I wrote it lol
This song became there oncore for live shows, because it was short.
Hi Amanda from your new subscriber wintersun Alex ❄️❤️
It felt relative to me at age fourteen and still does fifty years later.
Young Ozzy! Before he turned into a walking anti-drug campaign.
Yep Ozzy tells my. Story make a joke you will laught i will cry
New subscriber, love your reactions and analysis. Would love to see you react to savage garden - crash and burn / affirmation song and the animal song ❤ you will fall in love with the group
FAMOUS LAST WORDS by My Chemical Romance. Youll love it. Really 😊
I'm here to listen. You can reply here or email me (in video description)/send me an IG message (@mentalamanda).
Black Sabbath 1968-eternity🤘
Not related to a mental problem, but yes in a way--A great source of inspiration. Watch how Black Sabbath's guitarist found the mental strength to overcome a physocal problem (almost disability) to get something positive out of it. It's a very short animation on his early history. I leave it here for you to watch only (not asking for a reaction), it's up to you if you think it's worth it: ua-cam.com/video/YL9dWxkP8Qo/v-deo.html. Have a nice day.
You have to listen to Megalomania by Black Sabbath you will find out what a person is going through with a lot of psychological problems in that song.
I have always hated the feeling of paranoia. Especially when I talk too people and I dont know what they think of me. It brings out my self delt that maybe they dont like me or they think very little of me. All my life ive just wanted people too accept me but very little do and that leads too me sort of hating myself.
We accept you here.
I could analyze the band While She Sleeps. I'm from Brazil and I'm a big fan of your work.
Cool reaction. Black Sabbath is always a great pick. Cover "Diary of a Madman" by Ozzy. He wrote it to reflect on his struggle with Manic Depression.
I have done that one as well. Good song. ua-cam.com/video/6LQsJszg5HI/v-deo.htmlsi=FcscpqTLFUjHLzwe
@@MentalAmanda That's cool. I will check it out.
@@MentalAmanda Okay, I just saw your link
If Ozzy can get through it, anybody can get through it😂
Amanda if you wanna check out Times of Grace - To Carry The Weight I bet you'll love it
❤
Hey guys. I got ina wreck with my car. A week ago and the insurance company is fking me around. My car can drive but the alimantent is hard to Steeler when I'm driving...
you should check out 'Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)' by Papa Roach
You really need to reaction to One Okay Rock's Make it Out Alive and We Are - Ambitions Japan Dome Tour. I really think you'll like them and the messages they share.
Thanks for the request.
Back in the late 90s, when scientists first learned to fully breakdown the human genome, one of the very first people they did was Ozzy Osbourne. (I mean like one of the first five or ten.)
This is understandable. They were curious why this guy is still alive, after all the drugs and alcohol he has done?
Well they found out, it is because Ozzy Osbourne is officially Neanderthal. I mean a lot higher percentage Neanderthal than they ever thought still existed in our gene pool.
I still have the record...... Först was Paranoid the aong.... but then War pigs took the place and still has...
Not bad for a short song that was needed to fill the album that was written in 20 minutes
I would love to see a reaction of you to Ado - Unravel live 2023❤
there's a band i'd like to introduce you to that i believe you would quite enjoy .... The Warning! ⚠
for you and your channel in particular, i want to start you with the song _When I'm Alone_ , i would really enjoy getting your take on it. (there is an official lyric video if you'd prefer that ; but the Live at Teatro Metropolitan is a really good version if you'd prefer the live performance)
after that, when you're feeling in a strong enough mood to endure an "ugly cry", you might look at their song _Black Holes_ ; i feel like you could have a lot to say on it. (live @ Dakota Bar is really good ... there's no official video version, i don't think)
and then, if you're feeling really ambitious, there is the entire album called _Queen of the Murder Scene_ , which is a concept story album that follows the downward spiral of a woman driven crazy by unrequited love -- it's a great character study.
anyways, thanks for the content. i really appreciate the project you got going on here.
@mental amanda
Mr. Crowley next... did he talk to the dead?
Next sabbath song you do
Should be the song changes
Just a piano and ozzy
You should give "Coma" By Guns N' Roses a listen.. sure, it's long song but has no chorus and is very powerful
Music by the great lead guitarist, Tony Iommi (eye-OWE-me), and lyrics by the great bassist, Geezer (Terry) Butler. Iommi wrote this in about 20 minutes to fill in some extra album time. 1970!
And would you please react to my favorite symphonic viking metal band wintersun. They are a sister band with nightwish whom you reacted to a while ago. My suggestion is for wintersun sons of winter and stars 1.5 lyric official video. Nightwish has members that were in wintersun before. So if you love nightwish you'll love wintersun . So send me back a reply to see what you think. Thank you Amanda. Wintersun Alex ❄️❤️🌹👋
Added to my list.
Classic metal 👌
Thanks
Thanks 😊
I think you didn't understand that line, based on your reaction. He said I tell you to enjoy life, I wish I could but it's too late 😊
i feel like you probably have heard this one before because it has been used in promos for movies, in movie soundtracks and in commercials. you just did not know it. i say that because i heard it plenty of times before knowing what it was.

Your life has value, and I care if your light goes out.
you opened pandoras box next Sabbath with Dio
PLEASE REACT....pearl jam jeremy mtv unplugged & pearl jam black mtv unplugged

Loti by Eidola please and All Fuc*ed Up!!
Totally off from Black Sabbath but you need to react to Nobody Hears by SuicidalTendencies.
Amanda I see you read my comments. But if you could react to my wintersun suggestions that I left for you because I didn't get a reply for them so please send me a reply back on what you think. Thank you your new subcriber wintersun Alex ❄️👋❤️
Hello Amanda, it's the disabled vet.that you have been talking to,( I'm sure that I am not the only one ) but I'm the 71 year old. I'm good , thanks to you ! 🇺🇲🪖🤗
Pausing in the middle of Bill Ward's drum roll should be illegal 🤦
So sorry.
I suffer from ADHD
As you go down the rabbit hole, be sure to stop off at Megalomania.
Paranoid is a pop song, I would recommend Megalomania from the Sabotage album
I concur.
so your brain telling lies and your feelings the most primair animal instinctuel is the truth yeah right FEEL LIKE better feel for thius is just a suffering way to express narcism
Ugh.... the Black Sabbath song I NEVER need to hear again! There's a reason it was a song that was written at the last minute as a filler. Garbage.
Hand Of Doom. Psychological, harrowing, fucking SCARY!
Each person has their own tastes.
A white SG ?
Please react to the song comfortably numb by Pink Floyd. The 1994 version of the Pulse tour has the best guitar solo in the history of mankind! 😊
A good song. ua-cam.com/video/Oko-Lj8RDvQ/v-deo.htmlsi=8Taql8TsDpz3fWYD
