Tail stalls are easier to learn - and actually a bit more stylish - when you keep your body over the transition instead of trying to get your body up and over the deck for a full stop. So actually, your current approach is right so far and your below-coping practice is good. But remember that once you get over the coping, your board will need to tilt quite a bit farther for the tail to make contact. It looks like you’re reluctant to commit to that full tilt motion, which is why you’re whiffing on it. (I know this because I’m battling the same exact problem myself on a bigger ramp.) Try this: Focus on your front knee - lift it up higher towards your chest. This will allow the board to tilt more and let the tail make contact with the coping/deck. The higher you lift that front knee, the more solid the contact will be and the better it will look. It seems scarier at first but it is actually less risky because your body is already floating over the board and ready to drop back in. When you do it right, your body will look a little bit like you’re doing one of those flying karate kicks. Maybe a good way to think of it - it’s like you want to give the coping a flying karate kick before rolling away. (Also a good future video title: assault the coping). Sorry for writing a novella on this one but good luck and go kick some coping!
Looks like they are going to be another mental barrier. Your rock and rolls look awesome on that transition without coping, and those tail stalls look like you got too. Nice roll outs fakie too. 👏🏼👏🏼
Very nice! Lookin great man. Good that we recognize those 'off days'. Must not try to force oneself if not feelin it. Time to chill and experiment a bit, cruise around, enjoy outside while maintaining muscle memory. I think of it as a minor warmup for my next proper session.

Good stuff. I just found your channel today. I am also 51. I am getting back into skating now to teach and do something with my son. I thought it would all come right back to me. Boy was I wrong! I need to pad up as you do which will help my fear of falling which I did not have when I was a teenager. I was just practicing rock and rolls and 50/50 stalls today on small ramp with no coping.
Great job! Awesome fakie roll outs. There’s no room up there! Looked scary. Just like you did with rock to fakie, practice the fakie rocks on that small transition without coping to get the feel. You’ll have those in no time. Nice progression!
Nice video. You just gave me a new place to practice rock n rolls. I like being able to use the whole park, I've been rained out for 3 weeks now hoping for Friday return. I almost bought a 9 today but it was sold out. Then I measured my 8.75 and see very little difference between that and a 9". So back to the drawing board

Coming into transition with your back truck over the coping and using your nose is called ‘disaster’, so you’re doing a “fakie to disaster”. It was given that name because back before there were noses on skateboards coming back in that way would often lead to hanging up on the coping and ending in disaster lol
Hey bro. I was doing the same thing on tail stales because someone told me to concentrate on my tail pressing down. Wrong I think. I was whatching skateiQ guy on a video he was helping a guy do it. He told him to lift his front leg more. Bingo he got it. I tried it. It works. It feels very scary though because now you feel real high up even on a 4 ft ramp. Scary bro but doable.👍

You might check a 9.25” and see how that looks under foot. Maybe find a shaped deck that widens for your lead foot. 🦶
@@Steves_SkateXplosion I will get another. I just have 2 perfectly good decks . I consider my 8.75 an in-between deck.
Dude, I took your advice and did rock n roll on the mini ramps. This also helped me do fakie. Something so simple is a game changer for me. Thanks

Yes, all the way up on top of the deck, take a breath, look at the birds,..then drop back in. That's a proper tail stall.
