I think the biggest tip that i found out when I used to skate was to skate with people that are better than you. When you hang out with people that are good you're more likely to try new things and progress faster

haha so true, when your clothes are ballin you skate so much better. it's crazy. also something that helps me a lot, is skating different spots and environments - even if it's just some flatground, for example with walls with graffiti pieces i like. it gets me psyched

I was terrible at skating for a pretty long time. I was comfortable forming tricks, but I could never land them. Completely changed my mindset and things just started clicking. Got new gear and the only thing I think about when I want to land a trick is how I'm going to catch it and roll away or getting those bolts under my feet. Got all the basics and now I just need the basic intermediate tricks. Hope that helps someone out there.

when I was trying to learn how to Ollie I couldn't do it. I had really dirty and old grip tape because I got a second hand board, one day I went and bought a strip of grip tape and I put that on my board, the next day when I tried an Ollie, I got it first try. yes it was bad but I was so hyped so I practiced it all day and by the end of the day I could do a decent ollie

Noah Fletcher That's like when I first learned flip tricks. Turns out the board my friend gave me was waterlogged and warped. I got a new board and got Kickflips third try. *They were pretty ugly though.

My kickflips go through many performance plateus. First I learn them, get them down for a bit, then I lose the consistency of them the I hope right back on the plateu. Seriously happens every 2 months.

I love how you actually incorporate your (obviously very good) understanding of science into these 'skate tip' videos; you're the first I've seen do that. It really does make the the tips make sense and shows us why we (or the board) do the things we do and how we can fix them. Great video Chris, much love from England :)

These be some genuinely useful tips - lol, I thought I was the only one nerdy enough to keep notes on tricks to try and/or how to go about doing them. One thing that helps me deal with the 'performance plateau' is to mix it up a bit when learning a new trick. We know the feeling: you're tired and trying and trying some new trick, and it's tempting to just keep trying that one trick until you make it. Don't. It's hard to overstate the importance of 'flow' in skateboarding, and by popping some easier tricks in between attempts at that new trick you motivate your brain for the harder stuff. Works for me, anyway.

Omg soooo true! I was stuck on pop shuvits and yesterday I got a really sick diamond sweater and skated with my friends and learned them! That looking good thing is true. Also to learn tricks it also helps to play skate with your friends because than it puts you under pressure and makes you commit. So if you have trouble committing, then try that. (At least it works for me) and btw thanks Chris I'm gunna use some of these. (If you read this far you're awesome)

I think with double flips it also helps to channel some extra weight into your flipping foot/leg before you even pop, it kind of gives it a spring loaded effect and you can apply that same rule to every type of double flip along with torque.

christopherchann could you do a video about center of balance and how keeping that in mind when learning tricks can help your consistency? I mean I get the general idea but Im betting youve got alot of light you could shed! Theres a local here thats pretty consistent and I noticed that his stance is pretty wide on the majority of his tricks, so ive been trying to apply that to learnin fakie big heels and its got me 90% there, just a matter of time now..and watching all your trick challenges etc. It seems like youre pretty conscious of how its important to be centered and in control of the axis point×body position relationship...but there isnt a video out there as of yet(ive looked!) That covers this in detail, and at your skill level I think itd be hella well received and appreciated! Hope you consider it, you're a rad teacher and I always look forward to anything you gotta say...your "how to learn" video was sick! Please and thanks, Chris Chann forever!

About how you explained the double flips, your saying the board requires less force to be flipped if you flick further from the axis of rotation. But since the distance from the board is greater, the force acted upon it, needs to be faster and acted on for a longer period of time (simple machine: lever). So yes, if you can flick your foot/ankle very quickly with little amount of torque you are correct, Chris. BUT a shorter distance from the point of rotation (axis) would require less speed, and distance to be shorter, meaning that the distance AND speed you put into the board's rotation is going to be multiplied IF you are able to output the necessary torque. So, i will be different from everyone, but almost everyone is able to flick the board's weight from closer to the axis. The only thing that you might correct me here, is that flicking from closer to the axis is that the board wants to shoot out from under you because there is more grip surface area that your shoe slides on. Lean forward to correct this.
*And.... copy & paste into physics homework...*

duddde I so feel that enhanced confidence when my 'fit is en pointe. the function>form principal is kind of for me off bc of the power of that psychological effect. i'm vain af when it comes to myself, it's dumb but w/e.

I probably have been going at backside 360 every now and again for about 6 months. I have two ways I can do it. I can either do like my regular backside 180's and try to turn more so I land maybe at best around 200 degrees and 270 or I can kinda just take my front foot off and just spin the crap out of it (which can land me 360 some of the time but definitely gets me more spin)and land one foot. Which way would you suggest I learn it? It's is my most wanted trick and im so stoked because it's one of the only hard tricks I will be able to learn as of now with my current trickset. One foot back 360 , or back 180 slowly get more rotation technique
