There are 6 brigs (two masted square rigged vessels) These are unrated or sixth rate vessels. There are 3 frigates (ships - three masted ship rigged vessels). These are fifth rate ships, and amongst the most useful types for general cruising. Larger ships include the third rates of 64-74 guns, the second rates of 80-98 guns, and the first rates of 100 or more guns. Victory is a first rate (at least some of the time - she was downrated to second rate during parts of her active service, before returning to first rate, but was a small first rate, considerably smaller than some of the second rate ships, and dwarfed by the larger first rates of 120 guns).
Thank you for this, I was completely perplexed when he called a brig a 4th rate, doing a disservice to Agamemnon! Oh and funny thing, hms victory is now technically unrated with only 7 of her 112 original guns on board ;)
@@bongdongeroes1867 I'd have her as a first rate 'in ordinary' or 'hulk', 'museum hulk?' - on commission her armament would be taken on board, but she would be offladen before entering her long term anchorage. (some shallow entry ports required even lighter ships to offload ordnance before being able to navigate in).
Bow spirit isn't a thing, you mean "figurehead". The Bowsprit is the angled spar and yards supporting the Spritsail at the bow. The Brig has a foremast and mainmast (with spanker). The Frigate has foremast, mainmast and mizzen (with spanker).
Another great review of the unboxing of this set. This scale of gaming seems to be picking up speed and popularity. As a modeler, its good to see all the little details bits, especially the ability to do the rigging. Thanks again for the review.
For the Thread used in the rigging. Something I was thinking of using on the ends that need to thread in the holes, there is a sewing product called "Thread Lock" It stiffens the thread. I will try using it on the thread ends when running the thread thru the holes on the hull for the back stays.
Thanks guys was a big help seeing the actual content of the set and i will be purchasing it i noticed no paints came with it only bug bear really but I can buy some. Thanks again guys
So looking forward to this game. I still have the Trafalgar rule book from Warhammer Historical 2008 with the younger version of Gabrio Tolentino on page 111. Thank Poseidon I kept this book.
Just preordered this wonderful set! Cant wait :) The set comes with 6 brigs and 3 frigates... brigs were not rated at all but the frigates in this box are 5th rates, not 2nd rates since those would be big three gun-deck ships
Great video, thank you very much, mates ! I hope we will have in future more and more new types of ships and why not extra nations like the Dutch or Portuguese.
Can't believe your not keen on rigging these :) Try rigging the 1/1200 scale Langton models. Now that's a challenge!!! Can't wait to try these. Love the period and these rules look like they capture the period well.
Very interesting. I love napoleonic naval combat. Fascinating period in history. Will you guys be doing a pests play or show what the ships look like built?
I'm very much looking forward to this. The models look very nice and the book seems to have a lot of content for its size. I hope OnTableTop will upload a battle report soon for us to see how the game works.
This is looking quite interesting! I would love to see how the special ships compare to the generic ships. Also, can you get John to paint a bunch of ships during a hobby stream?
Stores getting their batches, wonder when the normal pre orders get shipped :) Can't wait to get mine and get crackin' . Thanks for the unbox chaps. ( brigs and frigates btw not 2nd rates and such ;) )
Has there been any mention of a pirate faction being released, I know by the Napoleonic era the Golden Age of piracy was at an end but if I had the option that would be great
Can anyone explain where you get variety between battles in naval games like this? I want to be convinced but I can't help feel it would be same-y. Cheers.
Hi i have bought the starter and now i need some help what to buy next. Is it worht it to buy a fleet pack of one faction. Are the famous ships worth it. Because 2 famous ships and a pack of third rates is the same prise as an entire fleet.
Looks great, but I don't understand why all distances are still in imperial measerment while there are only three countries officialy using it (and the UK is not one of those three). They really should use metric.
i really like watching the unboxing's as you get to see lot's of new game's you might not come across like my new fave at the mo Blood Red Sye's and also after i watched the un-boxing on youtube i found my local store are stocking it so it was a win win lol still not got lucky yet on winning a prize dam you luck you T**T lmao lol :) and this is defo another good game buy the look of it the detail on the ship's and the fact you can rig them is way cool and the sail's on the ships in the book are awsome defo going to look online at other people's work on the ship's i might get this at some point if i get my other project's down lol
We needed to see at East one of the plastic assembled. , maybe a brief frame of someone playing the fame . Nice video but to me it had low player Appeal, sort of like talking about a game and showing a box. Just opinion I'm 68" we used to play Ah games n the dorm.
Beautiful ships, meh rules. You can tell its Cruel Seas with and akward application of Age of Sail rules bolted onto it. This is particularly evident in how wind interacts with ship speed and sail attitude, were you can tell the ruleset was designed with self-powered ships in mind.
A box fart while we look at the box art! Try the rigging for the first time on camera. I want to see someone loose their temper with it. Maybe get the whole team together and race to see who gets a ship done first and who breaks their ship or strops off first.
In the reality the French navy was dysfunctional, due to the lack of crew training and the loss of most of the officers who had left after the Revolution, because they were noble. Fortunately it's a game, so it'll be more fun to play.

You may want to use elastic thread for the rigging. Elastic thread can be found at most sewing shops, Walmart carries it too.
For the Thread used in the rigging. Something I was thinking of using on the ends that need to thread in the holes, there is a sewing product called "Thread Lock" It stiffens the thread. I will try using it on the thread ends when running the thread thru the holes on the hull for the back stays.

I was already crazy to get one of these and now, seeing thst the game looks even more awesome than I thought I'll certainly get one, thanks guys
So looking forward to this game. I still have the Trafalgar rule book from Warhammer Historical 2008 with the younger version of Gabrio Tolentino on page 111. Thank Poseidon I kept this book.
Yes yes yes! Love Hornblower, love master and commander! Getting this!
This looks amazing. Will definitely been getting this. Models look great. Reminds of a very old boardgame wooden ships and iron men.
Love it, ive been waiting a long time for a company to do a simpler age of sail game to bait friends into the naval wargaiming hobby
Too simple turns me off though. I hope it is the definitive game for this kind of tabletop.
Just preordered this wonderful set! Cant wait :)
The set comes with 6 brigs and 3 frigates...
brigs were not rated at all but the frigates in this box are 5th rates, not 2nd rates since those would be big three gun-deck ships
Shiver me timbers. Need more pieces of eight for this.
This set looks great, very tempted!
I have avoided this period of naval warfare because of the rigging and ratlines....these models seem to have made this much simpler
I so love this range, it's on my top spot for the Crisis show shopping list in november
As I said before, this looks frigate awesome!
I see what you did there
I almost didn't ketch that
Very nice, just ordered my master and commander box. Should be at my home in about 2 days. Can’t wait, may try my hand at rigging, we’ll see, lol.
Looking forward to this. I just hope warlord has proof read the book so that it does not become defunct after first week like cruel seas.
I know very little about the era but the included resources seem a great jumping point!
Such a nice looking set, I'm looking forwards to trying it out!
Warlord always put together an attractive rulebook. Sooooo tempted to try that rigging for myself! Great overview guys
Looks really exciting. Definitely something I would consider getting into.
Good to see warren back on an unboxing!
I can see myself getting into this system in the future
What a pleasant un boxing you gave us.
I took one look at this and now I've watched Master & Commander and pulled out every Hornblower book on my bookshelf again. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeexcellent
Beautiful ships there .
Great video, thank you very much, mates ! I hope we will have in future more and more new types of ships and why not extra nations like the Dutch or Portuguese.

Beautiful. Doing the rigging would be a bit much. But it looks amazing.
I love it, I'm looking forward to playing

We've just finished filming one! :D
@@OnTableTop I knew I could count on you.
An interesting game - Hoping some of our club members take this one up..
What a very cool game, definitely going to give this a go!!!!
Excellent review. Now I have to get this.
Picking my set up soon , great unboxing guys 🎲🎲👍
This looks awesome!
Its looking neat. But i think im going to go with oak and iron for my naval stuff
that rule book looks top of the line
The components look neat. I wonder how it will compare to Oak & Iron later in the year.
sounds neat looks ok hard bout it on the D 6 G se as post
as well as doing the rigging how about making some small sails from cut up hankies or some other cloth :)
So excited for this game!
What a delightful sound!😆
I would love to get one of those plastic ships, just because they look awesome.
I am torn between this and Oak and Iron, both are looking good.
Always thought about getting into a historical naval battle game, but never actually did so. This may change things ...
I’m really hoping this is better than Cruel Seas. Talk about dead in the water...the models for this look fantastic and MUCH more appealing.
This is looking quite interesting! I would love to see how the special ships compare to the generic ships. Also, can you get John to paint a bunch of ships during a hobby stream?
*Pirates of the Caribbean theme plays*
"Thats got to be the best pirate ive ever seen"
looks like a very nice set
this looks awesome, wonder if I can trick my friends into playing a game
Are there plans to eventually make a version set in the later 1800s? I'd love a good Ironclad game.
I definitely buying this I have waited for this for a while
Thanks for showing the up-close, unpainted models. I was trying to see on Warlord's own website and wasn't having any luck.
Despite my misgivings I have got the starter set ordered.... I will be interested to see how the game plays
Stores getting their batches, wonder when the normal pre orders get shipped :) Can't wait to get mine and get crackin' . Thanks for the unbox chaps. ( brigs and frigates btw not 2nd rates and such ;) )
@Gerry mcCabe thanks for the exact info
Same Hethwill form the pc game naval action that also deals with the historical age of sail?
This is tempting, and also the first time I see a d3 :D
Excellent unboxing.
Cheers!
Has there been any mention of a pirate faction being released, I know by the Napoleonic era the Golden Age of piracy was at an end but if I had the option that would be great
Ill be getting this, looks fab.
Jerry for Prime minister.
Great unboxing! Thanks
Since there are British, French, Spanish and American "paint guides" in the book, can you make all four nations out of this starter set?
Can anyone explain where you get variety between battles in naval games like this? I want to be convinced but I can't help feel it would be same-y. Cheers.
This looks like a well made game.
The rigging looks tricky, overall sounds fun.
This game is a huge want for me!
Now I want to play me some pirates. Looks like a perfect two player set
This game seems cool wanna try it out
this looks beautiful, can I get it with the voucher when i win it
The box of the Dutch fleet is delivered with French Army miniatures. ^^

Is the game scale able to those of us who don't play 1/700 and have fleets of GHQ 1/2400th?
I am pretty sure that I am going to get into this game.
Cool idea for a tabletop wargame
Cannot wait for these to be released. Great unboxing by the way.
Beautiful ships, meh rules. You can tell its Cruel Seas with and akward application of Age of Sail rules bolted onto it. This is particularly evident in how wind interacts with ship speed and sail attitude, were you can tell the ruleset was designed with self-powered ships in mind.
So what material are those sails. plastic? Cardboard?
Thin printed card.
Love the videos and love the store
Dang that is a nice rulebook
This game looks very cool. Dreadfleet sort of.
I would be really into this except that I already have Sails of Glory......
Looks like an interesting game.
When did you change from beasts of war!?
Cant wait to actually have some money so I can get some of these ships!
Been a while since I played mini ship game
A box fart while we look at the box art!
Try the rigging for the first time on camera. I want to see someone loose their temper with it. Maybe get the whole team together and race to see who gets a ship done first and who breaks their ship or strops off first.
Yeah, im getting this.
Sails of Glory comes with prebuilt ships!! Ares Games
"Jack! You have debauched my Sloth!" Only Patrick O' Brien fans will get this ref to Master and Commander.
Looks interesting!
Nice box, but i wait for the Oak & Iron Videos on this channel. :)
@Gerry mcCabe That's because i am waiting now on "hot coal". :D

Doesn't mean the French navy had already and completely disappeared. Which is exactly what the game wanna highlight.
