Regarding the scam where the buyer claims s/he received an empty box, your post office receipt will have the weight of the parcel on it. When the dispute is open, carefully inquire what was in the box - if they say "nothing" then you can point to your receipt with the weight at the time the parcel crossed the post office counter. This happened to me and I had a delightful time sending the sheriff after the scammer.
I think it happens vice versa. I bought a used book online and received a torn big brown envelope with the postage details enclosed in a regular sized envelope. I am still so made. I filled out an ebay form n no one has replied. I contacted the seller who claimed to have put the book in a brown envelope. I am really outraged. It would have been better getting a new book. Now, I still have to purchase the book n lost my money. I am never ever using ebay. No way
I'm just glad your sheriff does something about it...I've heard lots of stories in the uk where police don't care, for £3 purchases/scams it just wouldn't make sense for the police to look into it....it makes sense why they wouldnt but it's hella annoying, especially if this happens every week for small sellers then that £3 extra hassle can really affect the business, depending what it sells...if the police won't help and ebay won't...what are you supposed to do???
How would taking a picture of you putting the item in the box prove anything? You could easily do that and take the item out, put rocks of equal weight to said item then send it. Then when they say it was a box of rocks you could defend the dispute by sending eBay a picture of the item in the box before you took it back out.
@@nickromjue after the weigh in process at a post office (UK) I think they take it off of your hands after that, which means theres no way you could've tampered with the box as a seller...I'm not sure if that's 100% the way it works but it makes sense
me too. joined eBay 1999. mostly sold cleaning out closet type items but now in 2021 done selling. I still occasionally Buy though. without sellers they won't have buyers but eBay apparently doesn't care
I too was a seller 2001-2003 timeframe, and gave it up when the fee structure was changed to disadvantage low-value item sales. eBay appeared to be trying to rid their site of small sellers. Now I’m retired and thinking of reselling, but in 20 years eBay still doesn’t appear to value sellers… so I won’t dive back in. Facebook marketplace has its issues too, but I feel more Comfortable dealing local and in cash.
As a seller, I have had #7 happen to me twice in the past 5 months, regarding vintage collectible phonographs I sold. They were packed very well, I took pix of the packing job, and shipped them insured. Both sellers sent me pix of the item now broken, which I knew was impossible, so I simply told them to make a damage claim with USPS, which would require them to bring the item and all packing into their local Post Office for careful examination. That was the last I heard from those scammers!
This happened to me too as a seller; buyer claimed item came broken when I know I shipped it in near mint condition. I told them to make a claim with Fed Ex. They went to their bank and had the charge reversed, so basically they stole an $850 item from me. Ebay's response, nada. I'm done. After 24 years of selling on eBay, this is the last straw.
Never pay by check or money order as a buyer. If the seller asks you to its a scam. Never accept check or money order as a seller, you increase your odds of getting scammed. Never accept an offer for more money, you are getting scammed. Never complete a sale outside of eBay or directly through PayPal. If the buyer asks you to you are getting scammed. If you are the seller this is outside of eBay's regulations and you again risk getting scammed.
I’m happy I came here before accepting. My FIRST eBay offer a couple minutes ago asked me to text them them and they said that they wanted to get a item as a gift for a family member. They said that they will add 300 for an Apple gift card, 50 for shipping and 50 for convenience and they ask for my PayPal to send it directly and to email PayPal saying that I was send xyz in the package. And eBay wouldn’t let me make a counter offer for the price they offered. Something didn’t seem right so I just denied the offer.
I just got hit with that one the othet day on a 25$ item clown asked me to get his nephew a 300$ ebay card n blah blah. Also w.e you hear google play card or card in general its a scam.
For the "empty box" scam as a seller: When I send an item out, I always get a receipt from the post office, or UPS. When I drop the item off, they weigh the package and the actual weight gets printed on the receipt. If the buyer claims that you sent them an empty box, you'll have the receipt proving that the box weighed much more than an empty box when it was dropped off. I've never actually had this happen to me as a seller but it's a good practice to follow.
Yeah. Because the sellers have all the power. They get the $ and buyers get screwed over. It's funny how you think it's only buyers scamming. I currently have 3 disputes awaiting refunds because the sellers created the shipping label but never shipped the item. Over 3 weeks still waiting for my items and no updates to tracking. But you keep telling yourself that it's the sellers getting screwed... lmao
@@davestuddert4392 this is why I think that the legal jurisdiction of virtual platforms like ebay needs to be broken up to where it’s owned via the people…that way no corporation can control and destroy like it’s done with ebay….we have never dealt with this before because ebay is the first of its kind…and I honestly think that the changes being made and the new ceo intentionally running off smaller sellers and focusing on items valued at $5000+ …he wants high values items selling on ebay only….that won’t happen…it’s an intentional take down of the idea of ebay…I don’t shop on Amazon because of how it’s designed…I liked ebay because I knew I was spending money and helping the average guy trying to make ends meet…I don’t like giving my money to corporations…and now before too long, ebay will be gone..
Sellers have very few rights on eBay, they’re all for the buyers. I sold on the platform for years and the buyers have all the rights. Not to mention being able to give you poor feedback when you’ve done absolutely everything above board. However, when you get a terrible buyer you can’t give negative feedback that affects their account. Very unfair.
@@stevenespinoza1487 As a buyer i was ripped off by a seller for $2,115 on Ebay..I would never use Ebay again for buying anything of value unless i saw the goods in person..Above all never would i be silly enough to do a direct deposit ,no matter how good the deal was.Funny enough i had made many purchases online with direct deposits in Australia and always got my items..I then deal with Ebay where i thought i was safe and get robbed..
1 way to make sure you a buying the right item is- Make sure a lot of people have bought the item and left alot of positive reviews. And make sure the seller has a lot of positives.
The feedbacks that are mostly positive seem kind if like bots, each item i search, most of the feedbacks look identical. And most are recent like a month ago and six months ago. Just my perspective on this.
As a seller, the best way to have irrefutable evidence against the empty box or broken item scam is to video yourself at the post office counter putting the item(s) in the box in front of the post office worker just before it gets sealed and processed by that worker. Yes it takes a little bit more time and yes it's a pain and sad that we would have to resort to that extreme, but the proof is there... unfortunately, what can't be controlled is whether or not eBay or Paypal actually care.
My post office has lines, they’re not gonna wait while I do all that. I live in a beach community where there are no mailboxes and ppl have to drive to the one lone tiny mail office to pick up their mail or packages and usually there’s a long line of pissed off ppl IF u take too long or dare to make chit chat with your friend the post office lady. Still i would try it, just to cover myself. But I’d have to go at a very early hour when it’s least likely to be a line. Like 9am.
@LisaNYC How unfortunate. I live in a mid-sized city with three large post offices that usually aren't busy. If I were in your situation, I just wouldn't use eBay for anything over $50, and that includes the s&h, insurance, and delivery confirmation.
I just got scammed by the eBay support team. I bought a computer from an account that I learned later has been hacked. I left a negative review for the seller and went to eBay support. This is what they did: cleaned the seller's bad review (he's back at 100%), removed the object from my list of objects (so I can't complain), didn't give a dime back and they don't reply anymore.
Another scam similar to the empty box that I have seen is shipping a box containing something of little or no value to another address near you (often to someone with the same last name). That way the tracking shows delivered, the receiver wonders what it is but doesn't do anything about it and then you are in argument with eBay that you didn't get it when the tracking says you did.
Here's another one that should be added to the list. Don't accept offers from buyers with private feedback. If they got something to hide they can't ever be trusted period. I was recently scammed by one and have learned my lesson.
@@criscoleman9720 I get that, but zero feedback combined with a brand new account, and also a request to mail to an address that's different than the one listed is a red flag at best.
@@FGC-ku4ez All brand new accounts have zero feedback. That's not an issue, which is what I was commenting on, not requesting to mail to an address that's different than the one listed, which is easily taken care of. They just need to change their mailing address on ebay to the one they want it to be sent to. If they don't want to do that, they say, I'm sorry, I'm just going to have to cancel the order because of address problems. If they do, then problem solved.
Another scam sellers will do is to sell a fairly expensive item, claim to ship it, then close their Ebay account before dispute is settled. Strangely, Ebay allows this.
Is that an actual thing?? Because I just bought on eBay and it’s been almost a week they haven’t shipped it and when I saw the account it was created this month so now I’m worried as hell. They don’t do returns and I’m just sitting here like what’s gonna happen
@Saucyandrew I have purchased a few items myself from suspicious sellers and turned out I was right. Contacted eBay and they told me to wait. But I'm covered. After waiting, the sellers closed their account and ran with the money. But ebay covered me. No worries on my end. I'm also a seller and worry about being scammed but so far knock on wood. Never go outside of ebay either. They do view your messages back and forth between buyers and sellers. Just do the right thing and be honest. Ebay will take care of you.
We always write details such as name, weight, and package dimensions and sometimes other details under where the postage label goes. When there is a problem we ask the buyer to provide the information to us so that we can handle any return problems right away. The label already has the weight on it, so it should always match. We have found out with this method that at least once a year, we do make a mistake on our end when someone might say they ordered two of something, but only got one item. First thing we do is check that weight against what it should have weighed, plus we do a quick inventory count on that particular item. Yes, I personally have made some mistakes. We only sell on eBay and have for more than 20 years.
Here's a different type of scam...Not having money in seller's account for a refund. I bought an item, paid immediately, never received the item. Filed a 'Did not receive' case... eBay DID side with me, but I never received a refund because the seller's PayPal account was completely empty. eBay never even offered to cover it, just 'Yes, we see you never got it, but the seller has no money for the refund. Too Bad So Sad.'
I've transferred money using PP to others using PP with zero money in my PP account. They just take if from my bank account that is registered with them. Everyone is happy.
first time seller on ebay and in just hours Ive dealt with 4 scammers. I believed one because of the decent amount he offered only $20 more. But then proceeded to send me a fake email and asking me to basically ship it already when ebay was telling me to still send an invoice and wait for payment. this is really frustrating. I keep being asked to contact phone numbers and emails. a real buyer would just pay via ebay correct?
Yea the same thing just happened to me, also he asked me to get buy a $200 gift card for home cousin who is in Texas bc he can’t bc he is in the army, and I still have yet to see my payment. Then he also asked me to pick up another gift card for $500 and that’s when I realized this could be a scam
Thanks so much. I’ve been a fantastic buyer for many years - only had one bad seller - lost only $20.0 but it just got me so mad. I love eBay buying goodies and having fun. Now at my age it’s time to sell some fantastic toys and gear and make both parties happy. I’m 76 and if I don’t sell it my goodies they might land in the garbage or thrift shop. I would just like to give every thing to the Grandchildren - but they all don’t have the time. Thanks for taking your time to share.
I had a buyer claim that he never received an item. According to Google maps the buyer lived in a gated community. I mentioned that in the response and asked if he spoke to his neighbors. Never heard from him again. Yesterday and today two different buyers said that they had just moved, but they didn't have time to change their address on Ebay. I fell for it once and it cost me $50. For these two scammers, the sales were canceled.
I bought a vinyl and I never received it. I have the proof that I have bought it and even showed the seller the screenshots from my email and bank. They’re claiming that I wasn’t in their system and that I never bought anything from them. I find that weird cause a few days after I was supposed to receive it, I saw it was relisted. It was 10$ but still bums me out.
As seller i just got scammed by a scammer as buyer. He stole my phone and Ebay lends hand for the scammer to steal my item, a phone valued $800. Ebay robbed my heavy fee $130 in this transaction too. Phone call support is for decoration and useless. They are trained to be nice to open appeals but never bring fair outcomes.
As a seller you are pretty much screwed. If they want your money they're gonna get it. All you can really do is block the buyers you don't want buying from you by entering their user ID or email address in your blocked buyer list. You can block 5000 people. Go to help and type in block buyers go to the box below and enter their user ID or email and a comma at the end separating each one. They will no longer be able to buy it now, make offers or bid on your items.
I bought something once, it said they were from Chicago. My package took a month to get to me and when it did it was came from China and the box was completely destroyed not only that the price of the item was printed on the box at half the price. It turned out to be a knockoff! I sent pics and asked the seller for a refund, they said they would get to it and never did. I gave them a bad review after all that and noticed I wasn't the only one later giving them bad reviews. I reported it to ebay and no response. I later went to check their reviews again and somehow they got rid of all the negative reviews back at 100% wtf?, then a couple weeks more i checked and their account was deleted. Luckily it wasn't something expensive but still I got scammed
I was victim to scam #1, but for a small ticket item. The seller was selling a new blood pressure cuff at a price slightly better than other sellers. Their account was fairly new, but they did have some positive ratings (I'm sure they were bogus). The selling was happy to write me back and explain that the item was coming soon... it was not. I did launch a complaint and was able to eventually get my money back. Weeks into the process the seller's ratings changed to mostly negative ones, then the account went dark. Apparently, the scammer took photos from other sellers for random items that you would think would normally not be scammed (not phones or game consoles). They then posted them at a slightly better price making it an "easy" decision to buy. By the time the buyer was aware of what was going on they were long gone.
I once paid for an item and was sent an empty box but the listing made no mention of it being box only. eBay refunded me and the seller was baleeted. Scammers are so lame
How about Shill bidding? The only way I can figure to fight against it is if the listing is public. That way you can check the bidders history. But if it's private you're just SOL?
Another defense against buyers who received empty package. Make sure you get and save the USPS receipt. It has the weight record there. Another scam use by thieving buyers is using the biggest ebay loophole. Even if you don't allow returns, all the buyer has to do is to request a return saying that the item doesn't match photos and descriptions. Then they sit back and wait. Then they open a case and eBay immediately gives them the money back. EBay takes it from you, keeps the selling fee, and the buyer keeps the item. It takes weeks to get the money back but the buyer has the money and the item. Nice scam!
Buyers have to prove that the item is different through pictures. Just because you don't offer refunds doesn't mean you get to ship items that are different from what you advertised.
You didn't list this one that has happened to me: Buyer has two accounts, and bids ridiculously high thereby keeping other buyers away. Then, last minute the high bid buyer withdraws his bid and he gets it very cheap using second account.
@@GodWeenSatan You can if there is plenty of hours before the auction end. Sellers can always cancel bids. And sellers usually use other accounts to inflate.
And ebay has no way of contacting them they know about all the scams but do nothing about it they protect the sellers and dont give a shit about the buyer
Tracking scammers piss me off. They "send" you something with a tracking number then when it's about to leave the last shipping distribution center they change the address then they'll claim to resend it but then they send a tracking number that shows it delivered to your address but eBay can catch that especially if the time tables of shipping is odd, like if it's in one state one day and then suddenly "delivered" to your front door at 3 am in the morning which is something UPS or FedEx never do.
So has anyone encountered where a buyer questions you as to why they recieved 1 instead of 5x? They send you a pic of your listing which clearly states one item but somewhere on that picture is another listing that says 5X. This is the third time I am dealing with this. I dont know if its a photoshopped item or Ebay is adding other listings and my customers are getting confused and I have to do the clean up.
Here’s another scam as it happened to us. I ordered an induction cooktop. Showed delivered by UPS but was not at our mailbox providers. I contacted eBay and stated our box never arrived. We could not get a refund as it showed delivered. I contacted UPS and found our box was delivered to our city but to a completely different name and address. I went back to eBay with the new information and luckily we got refunded.
I wouldn't worry about it. I get a lot of stupid questions or messages stating that my price(s) are too high but I usually just end up blocking them since they're more than likely going to cause problems if they do end up buying something from me. I've only had one potential scam from an "item not received" case but tracking showed it was delivered and eBay sided with me. At least 95% of my transactions go smooth without any problems.
In my country only children use the term dude but in terms of buying stuff from eBay fuk them it's all Chinese crap none of it works and I'm sick to death of it I'm not doing it anymore
No. 4 the “over payment” is out of control on EBay Motors. I will buy your car/truck/boat but I’m going to send you a cashiers check that includes the transporters fee. Then you can pay the the transporter directly. Fake cashiers checks take some time to be detected by the bank and in the meantime you have paid the transporter and can’t get your money back.
Good advice thank you for sharing. As a seller - if able - and product allows - offering the buyers 30 day free returns can protect a seller in many instances. I send pictures of all my sold items. I send each and every buyer a courtesy message verifying their items purchased along with shipping address verification and pics of the unwrapped and wrapped item and its packaging. It does take more time - but it is worth it and many buyers are truly appreciative.
Someone requested a refund from me and used the excuse of unauthorised transaction and stolen card, I was selling a box of 15 comic books for £15, thankfully PayPal was on my side as I spent that little extra for recorded shipping.
Also, no point in taking pictures prior to sending as that’s no proof you actually put the item in the box at the point of sending. You could easily take the picture of the item in the box then remove it.
Don't forget the classic Bait N Switch. You buy something off eBay, but instead of getting what you ordered, you just get either a broken version of your item, or a completely random Item.
As a seller you have no rights even if you video the package. The buyer always wins!. This is why I do not sell on eBay anymore, I videoed all my packages, with time stamps and security seals.. still lost the money. The biggest scam you missed out is the damn stupid e-cheque. It takes sooooo long to clear and can pend for a month, most get annoyed and send package and they cancel it. Thankfully you have there home address and well.. be inventive 😅
One I (living in Europe) have come across a couple of times is people who claim to ship from within the EU but actually ship from somewhere else, usually China or non-EU eastern Europe countries. This means the buyer will have to pay about 25% taxes and duties so naturally you want to buy a product that ships from within the EU or at least expect it to be cheaper accordingly if shipping from somewhere else.
Not so clear cut though - I come across lots of Chinese sellers that use a UK shipping hub, for instance, so it takes a few weeks to arrive there, then gets forwarded onto you. There's no taxes to pay on those. If it does come direct from China, it really depends on the country. I hear from German colleagues that they often have issues.
I have had few those bots noticed. When you lose your bid, then there is an opportunity to click on every bidder. I have found few bots that have 100% activity for this specific seller. I even found fresh bots of **** (1) where 97% activity for same seller and 3 bid retracting (obviously so you buy for max price). These auctions nowadays are fake and I have no idea whom and how to report them. My previous experience that Ebay is on seller side.
i bought an item and received it but it was defective. i contacted the seller who then call me a scammer almost right away when he is the one who sent me a defective item. he told me when i asked for a return that maybe i wont ship back the same item and i could be a scammer and that he took note of serial number (when its not even stated in the auction). i asked him what number he has and he never wanted to respond to it. i was thinking maybe the item got broken in shipping but after the way of the seller of dealing with it , i dont think so. there are not only buyer scammers. sellers too. even some people with 100 percent feedback can deal in a bad way. taking pictures means nothing. you could take a pic of the item in the box and then ship the box empty or show an empty box you received after taking the item out and put rocks or something in it instead. you could take a pic of the serial number but then send another or show another when you receive it or ship it. ebay is very unsafe to me both as a buyer or seller. it happened to me that i shipped a monitor and the buyer sent me pics of it when he received it showing its broken. i had insurance so i contacted postal service to make a claim but the buyer sent pics of the monitor to the postal service showing the packaging which looked bad on his pics. then postal service refused to refund me saying it was not in the original packaging and this was a 1980 monitor. then i was forced to refund the buyer. i lost both the monitor and the money. it can be a real pain and a nightmare to deal on ebay whatever if buying or selling. its sad because it can be very good also. the good thing is that its a minority who act in a bad way. i believe over 99 percent will be good transactions but theres always some bad people having a bad day or doing something wrong at some point like real life too.
I'm a seller and I think I'm getting scammed. I sold a EUC Harley-Davidson jacket. Buyer received it yesterday, contacted me immediately saying I had sold a jacket with zippers ripped in two. I know I had inspected the jacket before shipping and had all zippers zipped. She demanded a partial refund so she could "get the jacket repaired". I referred her to the return process. Well, she didn't like that and bantered. She finally settled for a return so I'm now awaiting the jacket, wondering if she will purposely damage the jacket to match her untruthful complaint. And...I don't know anyone who wouldn't want to return a jacket that had zipper damage, choosing to "get it repaired" instead of a full return? As an HD rider, I've bought tons of motor clothes, paying high dollar at retail for quality and performance. There's no way that zipper was torn in 3 pieces.
The scary part is that scammers can look incredibly real. I bought from a scammer and the person looked 100% legit. Normal name, normal product prize, conversation before buying was completely normal, profile looked like a normal person etc. But I never received anything and they immediatly broke contact after I payed. No idea how to spot scammers if they are this good.
This is going on with me at this exact moment. I posted 3 items for sale it was immediately bought 2 by the same buyer. They didn’t have any percentage by their name.
@@linaazmiin7479 do you know if I’m getting scammed I paid for my item but it still says paid and not shipped or delivered the item says it’s arriving tomorrow
There is literally no way to prove you sent the item in the box, even if you video puting it in and wraping it up you could eailsy take it out off camera and wrap it up emepty and send.
I'm dealing with a customer who said they never received the item, but I have the post office receipt and item was recorded delivered, showing on the tracking number. Now they are asking me to refund, I hope eBay will see what's happening.
4:28 what's crazy is someone just tried to do this to me yesterday. Turns out the original owner of the account was hacked and the hacker tried to convince me to buy $400 worth of ebay cards for them.
you can go into your settings and only allow bids or purchases from buyers who have a certain amount of feedback. I highly highly recommend you do this
There's no need to stress your self,I bought a 500$ item and hatted it,not until I was referred to *KNOWNHACK* on Instagram he actually helped me recover all my money lost to eBay in few minutes he's reliable and trustworthy I recommend him for everyone
Scammers are tricky, sneaky, they like to confuse and are everywhere, one as an individual can take many precautions but at the end of the day when you make a payment or a deposit to a complete stranger there is always the fear that something will go wrong, even if you do it on some platform that offers a buyer protection program, it is not a guarantee that you will not be scammed nor does it guarantee that you can get a refund. What you need is an intermediary, someone who takes care of the money and is in charge of giving flow to the transaction and will not release it until you are satisfied, it would be the same as a seller, as long as you do your part correctly you can be sure that the intermediary will give you your money, no matter the buyer says. I dont mean to promote or advertise anything, I just wanted to tell that I am currently working on a proyect that is conceived with the sole purpose of ending scams once and for all. I won't share any link here because as I say this is just a mere comment, not advertise, but you can find our project on facebook by searching ''We agree App'', from there you can see more information. Thanks for your attention, have a nice day.
I was scammed by eBay SELLERS who falsely advertised a product to sell saying it would fit but in no way it would fit as they advertised! and when trying to return them eBay clearly states the seller is responsible for return shipping when they are at fault BUT they only accept a return when the BUYER pays the shipping costs and then when I finally receive my refund for the item THEY wrongly/falsely advertised it never compensated me for return shipping expenses! I've lost alot of money on eBay so far on this Seller scam! And eBay gives buyers no phone contact with a live person to resolve an issue as they had done in the past! eBay is a SCAM to buyers also!
I know..someone hacked my account buy trying to by a fake £725 for a coat 😮😮😅. Luckily my bank account did not allow the outstanding amount then I closed deleting my bank account details ASAP 😮
I also sell on eBay and a buyer claimed to not to have received a package I shipped but the postal tracking showed delivery time and date-- I think their package was stolen but I sold out of that product so fast even if they wanted to repurchase it wouldn’t have come from me.
A thing that irritates me about laptop sellers is, they post the ad under the section "pre-owned" and sometimes even write in the headline that the laptop works. Then when you read the description they write that the laptop comes without charger/battery/RAM/HD. In my opinion a laptop without any of these things doesnt work and should be listed under "for parts/not working" and not in the "pre-owned" section. What is your opinion on that?
Laptops with HDD removed for security is fairly common on ex-office stock, but without a battery RAM or charger is ridiculuous. That would definitely be "for parts/not working".
@@MakeUseOf I know they take out the HD's for security reasons. I dont have a problem with that. My 80+ years old mom, who doesnt understand this and who is not capable of putting in an HD in a computer or even understand what an HD is, would have a huge problem with buying a laptop that supposedly works only to find out that it doesnt. Just one reason why it should be in the not working section. Say, if you took out the gearbox in a car and tried to sell it as a working car, you'd be in trouble with your customers right quick. Same thing with the HD, which is why it, should be in the not working section. If it is in the working section it should be "plug and play". It is not impossible to put in a brand new HD prior to selling a computer, thus eliminating the security risk, if one wants to sell a computer as fully working. Looking at computer seller ads on Ebay is becoming like going to the kliche used car salesman these days almost. Having said that, I think there is one other reason why they sell defective computers as fully working. The sellers are very often quite tech savvy and they forget, that a huge number of buyers arent. It is understandable, but it is still dishonest albeit accidently in my opinion.
About the phishing scam, now they are trying to gain access to the email you have connected to your paypal and are saying they have to send a confirmation code to confirm payment, but its a recovery code so they can access your email, change the recovery options, and recover your paypal/banking to access your money. You do not have to give out your personal info such as emails or phone numbers, ever. Do everything through Ebay including tracking, invoices, etc.
1:15 I won’t fall for that one anyway cause I’m gonna open up package and see if it’s what I ordered if it is I’ll know they put wrong name either accidentally or to try and scam me I’m smarter than that type of scammer that’s the dumbest way to scam someone if you’re a person like me who always opens packages shipped to their address because they ordered a package and they are expecting a package to that address even if it says wrong name on it that won’t stop me from opening cause I know it’s my package and I ordered and I know no one with that name lives at that address. Yes really this generation of so called “scammers” are not the sharpest tools in the shed
someone please answer. the person trying to buy from me is from Germany, and they only have positive reviews from Bulgaria, Hong Kong, France, and Germany. They offered more money than i offered. are they a scammer?
I bought a dash cam from ebay it was rubbish but they asked me to review the item of course it was a negative assessment but ebay asked me to turn it into a positive one then they would give me my money back but I think that's black mail I'm taking this further.
Stick with it. The #1 rule to eBay is the same as life IMO “ You only get out what you put in”. FYI to new buyers. The real payoff to all the hard work for the first 90days won’t be rewarded to you for 6-8 months of consistency when the algorithm trust and works to your benefit.
I saw a seller that had a theremin listed for $1004.88 plus $1000.00 shipping from Italy. You can buy the same thing in the US for 700.00 or less plus free shipping. Obviously no seller would think someone is stupid enough to pay these prices so I am wondering what the scam is.
Scammer bought a new part from me, then claim it defective and ship back their old part to me and that's ok for eBay to return junk at my cost and fully refund buyer.... I'm doing what the buyer did for free stuff, thanks to the lesson eBay taught me how to get free stuff
This video is misleading with so much info. Looks like you didn't actually go through any of those examples yourself. As a seller you will be screwed by eBay even if you photograph or video anything. From empty boxes scams to claiming item was broken, the seller will loose every case. eBay will argue that they weren't there when you took the pictures? How do they know you didn't take the pictures of the item in the box and then removed it and resealed the box? They will always and I mean always side with the buyer
The photographing as you package it is one I haven't been doing and definitely need to start doing, People are assholes, sucks videos like this even need to exist.
I am waiting on a package, but although there is a tracking number, the item has nit been scanned into the postol delivery system. I an kinda nervous, as I do not use ebay often. I just do not know how a shipping label is made and the itm not yet shipped!
Some time SOMETIMES it also depends on what you are selling, The items I sell gear toward to older peoples and collectors, I haven't had any problems SO FAR all these yearsss, Peoples read the negatives comments and think Ebay is terrible, I'm sure most successful sellers will tell you the good out weight the bad, Very good information!!
I am currently a new seller on eBay and just got my first offer. My question is, is it common for the buyer to ask the seller to text them at their personal cell phone number?
In my experience ebay actually helps and sides with the scammer in most cases, Ive had people send their broken stuff back not much you can do about it even if it is totally different with serial numbers etc. All ebay care is that you had something sent back now you need to refund then ebay start threatening to put bad marks against your account and how it will effect you in the future. Its easier to just take the hit and accept ebay helps the scammers. My tip is only sell stuff on ebay that you was going to throw away
I got a new one today and got a women’s dress, instead of a suit jacket and they say they never had and saw the dress. In the 12 years I haven’t had this happen before. So I’m trying to figure out if they scammed me or if something happened after it was shipped and at the post office? Oh and the package label says 1 lbs. 5 oz. and when I weighed the package with the dress and it weighs 13oz. so the label weight does not match what it actually weighs. This is only a $30. item with shipping cost, but it’s the principle and I like to know what happened or going on.
Hi, I just started selling on Ebay. When you accept a customer's offer and they send you a message saying they have questions about item and wants you to privately text them at a phone number they provide; should you text them or ignore them?
No, keep all communication on site so eBay has a record they can view when a claim arises. If they want to take any communication off-site, it's a scam for sure.
I bought a new Dyson v15 on eBay for $337. Average new price on eBay are $450+ I wasn’t sure but since eBay has a protection plan I bought it. But about 4 days later the buyer said there was fire in their factory so he would refund my money which I got. I want to buy another one but there are a bunch of new Dyson v15 models around the same price but they won’t message me back and they don’t have any reviews or other items for sale. If they are scammers wouldn’t eBay know about them? Not sure if I should purchase another lower cost Dyson from one of these accounts or buy a used one around the same amount.
Here's another one for sellers: replacing his/her broken item with yours, best to take pictures of your packing and put secret mark in your item, I've had it done, had item sent back and proved that he sent his broken item back to me..happens alot with good China and pottery. I don't sell on eBay anymore either as so many buyers are criminals and eBay stands behind them. Regular stores have cameras, loss prevention people and criminal charges upon theft, eBay has nothing.
The bank has a fraud protection department. You can have them check out the check first to see if it’s good. I know because I work for a financial institution.
I recently got caught when purchasing a set of brand name Lithium AA batteries. I used 6 of them in things like my camera, weather gauge and indoor light. All relatively low drain items which from previous experience last up to a year. These batteries all began failing after just a month. I complained to the seller and asked for a refund but he decided to go on holiday. I tried to use the eBay Buyer Protection Scheme but the 30 day return rule stopped that happening. There were a good number of similar duff battery comments on the seller's profile. Getting eBay to take notice and act on my behalf was very difficult. Direct contact being almost impossible. The batteries were probably fake and against eBay selling rules.
Yesterday we use it then the police stop us now find file case for the scammer . I think ok accessory crime? Appliance/abettor ; fraudulent charge ,????plz need ur advice ..😢
Thank you for the information , the reason I looked up for that information because every time I am trying to sell a product over 100$ I get two offers either with the same price or much higher from two different accounts. I looked them up and both of them bran new made a weak ago or one day ago. They dont have any feedbacks or photo, looks very suspicious. Don't know what to do.
I used E Bay for the first time over a week ago . They sent me a email telling me it was on the way. I recieved a message saying it was delivered today. It never arrived and when checking the tracking number they shipped it back. Tried to contact E :Bay and they continued to tell me that the only email I have had my entire life was not my email and they would not help. I will never again in my life use E Bay
I'm the seller and am going thru the " nothing in the package". 2 attempts failed thru ebay " didnt receive my idem" then" missing parts "now attempted "charge back " scam. This person tried to scam me a month earlier with the " go outside ebay" scam and I reported them but didn't block. Should have blocked because then they bought an idem and now here we are. If they try to scam you. You should block. Thanks.
There's no need to stress your self,I had my eBay account suspended and hatted it,not until I was referred to *KNOWNHACK* on Instagram he actually helped me recover all my money lost to eBay in few minutes he's reliable and trustworthy I recommend him for everyone
So sorry about that..... I'll advise you to contact *@justintoolz on instagram* or *@rody2580 on telegram* for your reliable money refund. He helped me recover my $6,000 from some scammers. You can thank me later
I imprint my merchandise with an invisible trademark (visible under a black light) and inform the scammer of such if he tries a switch. It has always stopped them.
How do i know if it’s a legit sale and not a scam? I’m trying to buy a Dyson v15 which run around $450+ for a new one on eBay but there’s a bunch of sellers selling new ones for $330-$370. They have no history, reviews or other items for sale.
OK I have a question. It kinda is similar to one. The buyer claims the item is broken. I took pictures of my iPad Pro 12.9 inc working condition how I packaged it up and the condition of the product Apple conducted tests for me prior to selling the item and gave me a clean bill of health I got a return request back as item is not as described however, in the picture, I notice this as if the iPad was tampered with. For example, somebody stuck a prior tool in the product, trying to lift up the screen, puncturing the battery how could I fight this because I do not intend on refunding the buyer I am not going to be scammed out of what would have been a functioning iPad if it wasn’t tempered with. Furthermore, I suspect they brought the item to take the parts out. They need for the other item and swapped the motherboard from one iPad to the other. I would like to know as a seller how can I protect myself?
I have had that happen seller will own a faulty item buy's your working item opens it removes the part he needs to repair his own item en starts a return request. knowing he can repair his item for free at your expense.
Oh, nice tip!
I started using Ebay back in 2001 and it was fun buying and selling. I still buy but stopped selling due to the lack of Ebay support
Here here my dear Friend Here here! There is no PayPal so this must be old.
Ebay is soo anti-seller.
I'm done selling on eBay.
me too. joined eBay 1999. mostly sold cleaning out closet type items but now in 2021 done selling.
@@ex.spaceshuttle.worker AMEN!
@@jaylasmith7317 wow, i got this same offer 2day. glad i youtubed ebay scams and found this video and ur comment, ill cancel the offer asap
Back in the day it was common practice to use Money Orders!!! 💯
No matter what you do, eBay will take the buyer's (scammers) side
But you keep telling yourself that it's the sellers getting screwed... lmao
how to avoid eBay scams:
1. Dont use eBay
2. continuiosly repeat steps 1&2
Bruh step 2
but were can i buy thing online :(
Ebay & PayPal are SCUM! They do nothing to help buyers who've been scammed
Where do we sell? I sell used chainsaws and small engine parts lol
Yeah right.. But you can report them as well if you want.
so true!
@@Herdaybook the buyer should have more rights on ebay. There giving the person money, and they don't even know if they'll get what they paid for?
@@stevenespinoza1487 As a buyer i was ripped off by a seller for $2,115 on Ebay..I would never use Ebay again for buying anything of value unless i saw the goods in person..Above all never would i be silly enough to do a direct deposit ,no matter how good the deal was.Funny enough i had made many purchases online with direct deposits in Australia and always got my items..I then deal with Ebay where i thought i was safe and get robbed..
It's becoming a terrible place to sell. It's only worth buying now. Far too many theiving scumbags
1 way to make sure you a buying the right item is- Make sure a lot of people have bought the item and left alot of positive reviews. And make sure the seller has a lot of positives.
Not necessarily. Just like Amazon, they can fake positive feedback
What if they are new ?
The feedbacks that are mostly positive seem kind if like bots, each item i search, most of the feedbacks look identical. And most are recent like a month ago and six months ago. Just my perspective on this.
A seller tells me that if i buy his pc and he couldn't ship it to me he will give me a refund
Yes but that can be bulshit when you've got a billion Chinese it's not hard to get a few of them to put good reviews on
As a seller, the best way to have irrefutable evidence against the empty box or broken item scam is to video yourself at the post office counter putting the item(s) in the box in front of the post office worker just before it gets sealed and processed by that worker. Yes it takes a little bit more time and yes it's a pain and sad that we would have to resort to that extreme, but the proof is there... unfortunately, what can't be controlled is whether or not eBay or Paypal actually care.
EXACTLY! I said the same thing.
Paypal is a Scam can block for no reason
My problem anymore a seller stating ships from USA and then after you pay ends up coming from China and takes longer nothing you can do.
People are drop shipping
Ebay knows this but cares less. Also sellers post a tracking number but dont ship for another week
So unfair...
Huh what I smell bullshit, ebay can't be THAT bad..
Sending to the wrong address doesn't work. Even if ebay doesn't back up the buyer, PP will when he does a chargeback on his CC.
Solution: be the only one in your country with your last name. Check.
Here's another one that should be added to the list. Don't accept offers from buyers with private feedback. If they got something to hide they can't ever be trusted period. I was recently scammed by one and have learned my lesson.
Also buyers with zero feedback. Those are fake accounts, and the intent is to steal your item.
@@FGC-ku4ez Everyone started with zero feedback, including you, if you buy or sell on ebay.
What is private feedback?
Oh wow, I've never heard of that one. Brutal.
I've transferred money using PP to others using PP with zero money in my PP account. They just take if from my bank account that is registered with them. Everyone is happy.
ebay scamming aswell now, such a rich company yet they wont cover a refund that happened on their site
first time seller on ebay and in just hours Ive dealt with 4 scammers.
Yes ofcourse. Keep everything on ebay.
they prey on new sellers
Yea the same thing just happened to me, also he asked me to get buy a $200 gift card for home cousin who is in Texas bc he can’t bc he is in the army, and I still have yet to see my payment. Then he also asked me to pick up another gift card for $500 and that’s when I realized this could be a scam
same thing happened to me. sucks, but reassuring to know I'm not the only one
What did you collect?
It was 10$ but still bums me out.
ebay has the most scams then any other selling site in the world
As seller i just got scammed by a scammer as buyer.
This does one thing for me, it reinforces the idea of never using that crap website to sell things from!
It's not the site's fault. Plenty of honest sellers I use ebay all the time.
Pablo Gonzalez only some
@@smart422 most actually
Well when eBay doesn’t even have any customer service then that solidifies your point. So many damn scammers on the site
Nice scam!
Doesn't work. Ebay requires the buyer to return the item.
Interesting tactic, not heard of that one before. Usually it's the sellers trying to inflate the price.
You can't withdraw your bid?
@@GodWeenSatan You can if there is plenty of hours before the auction end.
Sellers can always cancel bids.
And sellers usually use other accounts to inflate.
I also wonder about those auctions when they don't work out and fall into your hands when the price went above the price you were willing to pay. 🤔
Never purchase anything on E-Bay. The return routine for damaged goods is almost impossible, unless you want to waste hours upon hours with repeats.
Also keep in mind that a check hasn’t cleared once your balance changes, only after the bank approves it, usually weeks later.
People still use cheques?!
Damn Dude, You're making me rethink about selling my stuff on eBay. So disappointed but I will take your advice. Thanks.
I have sokd on evay a lot. Never had a problem. But go by the ebay rules, completely!
@red vegiesoup Do u use Facebook marketplace?
It does take more time - but it is worth it and many buyers are truly appreciative.
u can get scammed on paypal also, paypal almost always will side with the buyer
Someone requested a refund from me and used the excuse of unauthorised transaction and stolen card, I was selling a box of 15 comic books for £15, thankfully PayPal was on my side as I spent that little extra for recorded shipping.
Also, no point in taking pictures prior to sending as that’s no proof you actually put the item in the box at the point of sending. You could easily take the picture of the item in the box then remove it.
Ya, that whole statement seemed like a colossal waste of time to me too.
Don't forget the classic Bait N Switch. You buy something off eBay, but instead of getting what you ordered, you just get either a broken version of your item, or a completely random Item.
eBay is on your side though, so it's easy to get a refund for broken items or not as desscribed. The seller doesn't really have a choice.
Thankfully you have there home address and well.. be inventive 😅
what do you sell on?
e-checks are history. Managed payments don't include them.
Always good to be up on this stuff. Thanks.
It seems like its scams all the way down!
I agree.
@@MakeUseOf Yes, because Germany enforces its import duties :D
Sorry to hear that!
No idea how to spot scammers if they are this good.
they had any %% percentage ? rate like 98% or any? before you get from them
This is going on with me at this exact moment. I posted 3 items for sale it was immediately bought 2 by the same buyer. They didn’t have any percentage by their name.

I highly highly recommend you do this
How can you fight back when eBay isn’t making it easy to reach them anymore?

I also sell on eBay and a buyer claimed to not to have received a package I shipped but the postal tracking showed delivery time and date--
I think their package was stolen but I sold out of that product so fast even if they wanted to repurchase it wouldn’t have come from me.
How does a person call eBay?
Go to help.. then you talk to a robot, then you can talk to a person....good luck
Is it a scam when they give you their number and also say “kindly” ??
Yep
Yes

About the phishing scam, now they are trying to gain access to the email you have connected to your paypal and are saying they have to send a confirmation code to confirm payment, but its a recovery code so they can access your email, change the recovery options, and recover your paypal/banking to access your money. You do not have to give out your personal info such as emails or phone numbers, ever. Do everything through Ebay including tracking, invoices, etc.
What about the offer one where the buyer says text me, and wants you to buy gift card as well
Scam

someone please answer. the person trying to buy from me is from Germany, and they only have positive reviews from Bulgaria, Hong Kong, France, and Germany. They offered more money than i offered. are they a scammer?
Yes, that's a common scam. Likely they'll want to take the transaction off eBay so you lose protections.
Awesome video, thanks for all the advices!
The first item I ever listed and would have sold… an eBay buyer tried to scam me by making me buy a $200 ebay gift card for his “brother”
Good advice mate, thanks
I bought a dash cam from ebay it was rubbish but they asked me to review the item of course it was a negative assessment but ebay asked me to turn it into a positive one then they would give me my money back but I think that's black mail I'm taking this further.
I'm new to eBay - THANK_YOU - really great info.

Same here :)
I saw a seller that had a theremin listed for $1004.88 plus $1000.00 shipping from Italy. You can buy the same thing in the US for 700.00 or less plus free shipping. Obviously no seller would think someone is stupid enough to pay these prices so I am wondering what the scam is.
eff the fees. sell local ppl. win win for everyone
Scammer bought a new part from me, then claim it defective and ship back their old part to me and that's ok for eBay to return junk at my cost and fully refund buyer.... I'm doing what the buyer did for free stuff, thanks to the lesson eBay taught me how to get free stuff
but do you get still the money or u refunded the guy?
This video is misleading with so much info. Looks like you didn't actually go through any of those examples yourself.
As a seller you will be screwed by eBay even if you photograph or video anything. From empty boxes scams to claiming item was broken, the seller will loose every case. eBay will argue that they weren't there when you took the pictures? How do they know you didn't take the pictures of the item in the box and then removed it and resealed the box? They will always and I mean always side with the buyer
#6 keep the receipt from the shipper showing the weight of the item shipped.
The photographing as you package it is one I haven't been doing and definitely need to start doing, People are assholes, sucks videos like this even need to exist.
It really doesn't prove anything.
Nope, that's a scam where they ask you to take payment offsite.
@@MakeUseOf Thank you for clarifying I thought it seemed a bit off, just wasn’t sure.
Average new price on eBay are $450+
I wasn’t sure but since eBay has a protection plan I bought it.
Ebay doesn't allow checks or money orders. You have to pay with card when the item ends
Shill bidding is the scam i hate the most getting family or friends to bid to artificially inflate the price.
Even the original Energizers are made in China with bad o-rings.
I bought an un-locked iPhone couple years back, it was the wrong one, listed it as a 6, turned out to be a 2g.

Usually a scam. Don't accept offers from new accounts, period. Let them get some reuptation with smaller purchases first.
Some old accounts can be hacked accounts used in fraud, ebay is extremely risky.

How do i know if it’s a legit sale and not a scam? I’m trying to buy a Dyson v15 which run around $450+ for a new one on eBay but there’s a bunch of sellers selling new ones for $330-$370. They have no history, reviews or other items for sale.
Never buy from any seller with zero history.

What happens if the scammer sent it to their own address?
