One of the funniest things you can do in any Mario game is getting a Mega Mushroom in stock for the final castle in NSMB DS, going through until the Bowser fight, and turning giant to just plow through the end boss. I would buy 'New Super Mario Bros Wii Deluxe' (no U) on the Switch. It was a fun game on the Wii. But Scott is right, Nintendo should have brought every NSMB game to the Switch.
1. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - The odd twirling change aside, there is so much content in this package, and I always love the connected overworld of U and Luigi U. 2. New Super Mario Bros. - Unique bosses and a unique look keep it feeling fresh. 3. New Super Luigi U - I love the more frantic shorter levels, but it's a tougher sell as a standalone package. 4. New Super Mario Bros. U - I think the level design in this one is excellent, especially the secret levels in each world and Superstar Road. Too bad World 8 is so short. 5. New Super Mario Bros. 2 - The Mishroom, Flower, and Star Worlds have so many unique levels that elevate this game to me compared to what most people say. 6. New Super Mario Bros. Wii - So many levels feel way too open and lifeless, and an amazing World 8 can only go so far.

It’s been interesting over the years to see NSMB2 rise up rankings the past few years lol. I dig it because not having to design for multiplayers like the home console ones means the level design is more streamlined
the level design of NSMB U is so good, and fun. idk how you can call it a slog, it has the best overworld too, with shorcuts and secret levels. an its def shorter than NSMB Wii. im so confused with U's placement
Funnily enough U Deluxe has tons of scrapped levels from the original game in its files, implying they might have been planning to revamp them as "bonus" levels, either that or they just accidentally left them in
DS and Wii are my favorites. 2 was good as well and U was the most boring and bland to me. At least Mario Wonder gave Mario much more personality and actual new ideas than what these games were doing
I’ll always appreciate Mario U, kinda a comfort game for me, something that’s super fun to just mindlessly blast through. Did just that over Christmas last year while out and about and had a blast with it, all while playing through Wonder whenever I was home, which was just lovely. I’d say there’s a place for both the simpler style of the New Super games, and the more elaborate, creative stuff Wonder brings to the table, they’re both fun in their own ways!
You know whats something the DS game had that the others didn't? NOT 7 DAMN KOOPALINGS AS BOSSES. It had some of the most creative bosses in the Mario franchise, they are great!
lol that intro is perfect. Nintendo probably feels somewhat obligated to make more of these every now and then, probably because it’s tradition. It’s what made Mario, Mario. Besides Donkey Kong of course.
The Layer Cake Dessert is just such a good word play. I can’t play Super Luigi U as the absolute stress terror that is the 100 second time limit. I hope all future Mario games are without a time limit.

But it doesn't matter, because I almost got everything right! I don't know if new soup luigi u is above or below new soup u (probably above), but in the end I got ALMOST everything right :)
The first New Super Mario Bros will always be one of my favourite games of all time. I never played beyond New Super Mario Bros 2, and while the Wii game was good despite its difficulty, the imagination you can apply to the first game to enhance your experience with it was just so great. Also, we need to see those Snailicorn enemies come back.
I remember when New super Mario Bros Wii came out I was super surprised how hard they made it. I was worried they were going to make it too easy because it was a multiplayer Wii game. I thought it was the hardest Wii game I had ever played. I loved how hard it was, but I think thats another reason why the couch co op was so difficult.
You definitely didn't convince me that the DS version was the best (I always thought it was too easy), but I forgive you because YOU HAVE NO IDEA how nice it is to know that I'm not the only person in the entire world who loved Coin Rush and thinks NSMB2 gets a bad rep.
"Why would you want the mini mushroom" ...higher floatier jumps? running over water? smaller hitbox? sure it has obvious downsides but it's risk reward, as well of course the secrets specific to it
NSMB2 is actually my favorite in the series tbh. I really loved the return of the tanooki leaf the way it was used SMB3, and the gold coins gimmick, while shallow for sure, at least gives some personality seperate from the rest of the games in the series.
NSMB DS also is I believe the ONLY 2D Mario platformer to have and create unique bosses, not the same or similar thing over and over again with each boss standing out and being a unique actual character, you even get to fight Petey in this game!!! And also a Monty Mole tank just really unique stuff that bot even Wonder did
NSMB DS is definitely my favorite. Mario Wonder made me feel the same joy as when i played NSMB. I still bring my DS out to play the multiplayer with my siblings. The luigi one was also. Alot of fun. I like how his physics work and it just was fun.
I personally find them all enjoyable, even though they're all very derivative. I couldn't play them back to back. But when I think of them individually, they scratch my itch when I need them too. Especially Wii and U

Agree, Toadette is better being herself. I'm glad we got to play as (the REAL) Peach, just regular Toadette and Daisy in Wonder
NSMB DS gotta be my favorite game tbh, played it for years and the first game i fully completed, its a great game to pick up and just slide through levels with the shell power up
and also the hours of mario vs luigi i played with my sister
What I find interesting about the New Super games is that if they didn’t come out back to back and feel the same, but instead it was the only one, i think people would think that they were great games. They feel like a perfect balance of 3d and 2d games, but when they are released back to back, they just feel cheap cash grabs meant to make money, but really they are great fun platformers.
"Another powerup but less," huh? You mean like the Raccoon Leaf and the Tanooki Suit?
I would buy 'New Super Mario Bros Wii Deluxe' (no U) on the Switch. It was a fun game on the Wii. But Scott is right, Nintendo should have brought every NSMB game to the Switch.
2:42 Peachette was a weird addition. Like why not just add Daisy instead?
Daisy would been better
No need to turn Toadette into someone else, she's cute just being herself
Finally some NSMB2 acknowledgement. It's my personal favorite
Same. It was my first Mario game so to see it recognize feels sweet
I love the games and hope they don’t stop making them but they really need to make each game more unique
As somebody who has NOT played these games, the best thing to come out of NSMBU Deluxe is Bowsette.
Coincidentally, that is the only thing to come out of NSMBUD. Peachette can barely count as something new.
Isn't Bowsette not even in the game?
@@halfgoodexeshe’s not, but the crown inspired her one way or another
@@halfgoodexe The crown is how Bowser transitioned.
@@KeybladeMasterAndy but Bowsette isn't in the game, thus that doesn't really count imo, it's like me saying the best thing to come from Mario 2 is the Shy Gal
3:53 I had that one! I was always confused when people referred to them seperately
The best NSMB Game is the DS Minigames
WII u kinda had those
I spent HOURS on the searchlight game and the bomb sorting one! Ugh. So good
Which were just ported over from sm64ds
So many hours in Luigi Poker and the 2 slingshot games.
Great vid! Makes me wanna play these again lol they are good for some quick fun
My Ranking:
1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
2. New Super Mario Bros. DS
3. New Super Luigi U
4. New Super Mario Bros. U
5. New Super Mario Bros. 2
6. New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
I agree. NSMB Wii is a blast!
When you said "It's one that i'd much rather play than U" I was like "what do you know about what I like to play" for like a full second
It’s been interesting over the years to see NSMB2 rise up rankings the past few years lol. I dig it because not having to design for multiplayers like the home console ones means the level design is more streamlined
Luigi U for me is incredibly replayable even for 100% runs I love the physics and the fast paced platforming
Channel should be called "Scott's Hands"
24:31 “if we weren’t counting super mario rUn” 😂
Next up on Scott's Stash: Ranking the Paw Patrol Games :D
New Super Mario Bros DS controls like a dream
the level design of NSMB U is so good, and fun. idk how you can call it a slog, it has the best overworld too, with shorcuts and secret levels. an its def shorter than NSMB Wii. im so confused with U's placement
Original New Super Mario Bros had a mixture of repeat minigames from 64DS but also had unique ones.
Man, I love how 2016's pre-chewed gum lacks bits of dirt, but I do also enjoy the lack of smell from 2010s gum... hard to decide 🤔
Somehow DS has the most u I que themes, we got a sewer level, one that was just pipes with an unique wiggler variant, spooky forest…
Who else is watching in forced 144p?
lol that intro is perfect. Nintendo probably feels somewhat obligated to make more of these every now and then, probably because it’s tradition. It’s what made Mario, Mario. Besides Donkey Kong of course.
I think theyre done making nsmb games
Can you just rank every Mario Kart Track and Mario Party Minigame at some point please?
I would kill for a console port of the original DS VS mode, competitive 2D Mario is really underrated IMO
3:00 whoa whoa a spoiler alert would be nice.
The Layer Cake Dessert is just such a good word play. I can’t play Super Luigi U as the absolute stress terror that is the 100 second time limit. I hope all future Mario games are without a time limit.
Predictions:
S: New soup
A: New soup wii
B: New soup 2
B: New soup u/new soup luigi u
D: New soup deluxe
Edit 2(?: the first edit was to put new soup luigi
And about the video, I thought it was a tier list but in the end it was top. But it doesn't matter, because I almost got everything right! I don't know if new soup luigi u is above or below new soup u (probably above), but in the end I got ALMOST everything right :)
Forget alax, for trashing the 3ds Mario games
Edited?
@@chunkymonkey7983 yeah when i post the video after posting this i saw that scott included new soup luigi u, so i edited the comment to put that.
Brilliant video. I love this sub-series. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is my favourite. I too think it’s great fun to play and highly underrated.
maro
The first New Super Mario Bros will always be one of my favourite games of all time. I never played beyond New Super Mario Bros 2, and while the Wii game was good despite its difficulty, the imagination you can apply to the first game to enhance your experience with it was just so great.
Also, we need to see those Snailicorn enemies come back.
Why is the video stuck at 144p
Favorite to Least: DS, Wii, Luigi U, regular U and finally 2 (that final boss fight is awesome though). Never played Deluxe..
The ds one is peak
I remember when New super Mario Bros Wii came out I was super surprised how hard they made it. I was worried they were going to make it too easy because it was a multiplayer Wii game. I thought it was the hardest Wii game I had ever played. I loved how hard it was, but I think thats another reason why the couch co op was so difficult.
It's kinda interesting how the ranking basically goes from newest to oldest. Shows how the quality of the games dipped
The quality didn’t dip, but it barely improved if at all which is why it felt like they got worse
I started watching this and realised it would probably be more entertaining to watch someone ranking different cat litter brands
You definitely didn't convince me that the DS version was the best (I always thought it was too easy), but I forgive you because YOU HAVE NO IDEA how nice it is to know that I'm not the only person in the entire world who loved Coin Rush and thinks NSMB2 gets a bad rep.
Which game would you say is the best one here?
@@mrpro538 My favorite is NSMB2, but I'd say the best was Wii.
Well if you really need a challenge, try using and keeping the mini mushroom or blue shell. Or just speedrun it.
Penguin is just better ice flower, as it even gives you regular traction on ice alongside the belly slide, whereas the ice flower is just the iceball.
Love the 144p video quality that i cant change for some reason.
You know, if I didn’t know any better I’d think Scott loves the New SMB series 😅
And also a Monty Mole tank just really unique stuff that bot even Wonder did
Not to mention the new soup DS actually had creative bosses instead of just, here's a koopa
Tbf the Koppalings initially were meant to be brought back from Mario World as a sort of new modern take on them. It just got used past Wii a lot
NSMB DS is definitely my favorite. Mario Wonder made me feel the same joy as when i played NSMB. I still bring my DS out to play the multiplayer with my siblings. The luigi one was also. Alot of fun. I like how his physics work and it just was fun.
anyone else not seeing a quality option?
edit: it's been fixed!
I personally find them all enjoyable, even though they're all very derivative. I couldn't play them back to back.
But when I think of them individually, they scratch my itch when I need them too. Especially Wii and U
they’re not all the same game, they’re the 5 levels of dementia
Neutrality, ignorant bliss, scared of the future, repetition, and mental evaporation
The screen pause is just an impact effect. Some Japanese devs love it.
Well I can't even see the resolution bump Scott. You uploaded this video in 144p.
