Last January 2022, i bought a BMW X5 2005 E53 4.8IS 93K ON THE CLOCK, I've tinted the windows, converted it run on LPG, a new xtrons head unit, and recently installed a new id4motion instrument cluster, it's without a doubt the best car I've ever owned, yesterday I changed the 4 tyres, the sound of the V8 engine burble is just fantastic!
Looks a really good car. And it's also depreciated to pretty much its minimum. As long as it's working and has an MoT it'll be worth at least what you paid for it.
Just proves the point that in most cases as a private buyer, it makes much more financial sense to buy a used rather than a new car. I've owned my current car - a 2018 low mileage 2L diesel 4x4 Skoda Karoq with Varioflex rear seats - for more than two years, bought for £19k cash. It does everything I need - from popping to the shops, long road trips, moving house, trips to the dump, to soft offroading. To buy its equivalent high spec 4x4 new Karoq today you're talking in the £45k ballpark. Crazy money.
I bought used Opel Insignia Sport Tourer 2016 total fully spacced 4 years ago for 8000 euros ,owner (company) payed new 38 000 ,after 4 years off driving it i can sell it for same money and i invest maybe 700 euro in it in services. I also have BMW E93 and after 5 years off driving still worth same as pay ,in fact 95% same age are more expensive then i payed 5 years ago. So buying new is just for people who really have money to throw away. I am now watching for X5 E70 40d to buy for towing my camper
Hello Matt, I have to say that the car looks like new, the mats are a nice touch , £90 well spent I think. Well worth the 2K. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Really nice video Matt. Nice to see there are still some nice genuine folks still around. I value my own integrity highly. The car looks fantastic, and you sound pleased as punch. Regards, Derek, Halkirk, North Highlands.
About 30 years ago I participated in a Blue Peter programme about tandem riding for families. The Beeb had a pair of even then old Citroen 2CVs. At the start of the day they stripped the rear seats, roof and boot panels so that a camera man could hang off the back of the vehicle, strapped to a strut positioned where the rear seats had been. We filmed for a couple of hours, then the film crew went for a three hour lunch, followed by another hour of filming, before a barbeque and the distribution of Blue Peter badges.
Result! I remember considering one of these nearly new - £54k from memory - so at £2k you have saved an awful lot of depreciation and seemingly got a good one into the bargain, too 👍
We bought a 2008 poverty spec 3.0sd SE with 96k on the clock in Nov 2022 as a car just to drive from the South East to Highlands to get married in. We’ve done 15k in it since and the only issues have been a leaking expansion tank and dud battery. It’s a thirsty beast but we love it.
Love the X5, had one for the last 5 years up until this summer when, in large part due to you and this channel, I traded it in for a Range Rover! You got a bargain for £2k
It’s amazing how much what i call ‘modern car’ you can get for your money these days. Cats from that era were starting to get pretty nice interiors and extras.
Hi Matt, lovely X5! Defo look to see if the main thermostat and EGR thermostat have been replaced. They failed on our E61 to causing it to run cold which lowered the mpg significantly. After doing it, it now gets 40 mpg on a run easy. May well have been done but worth a look
I bought a 56 plate X5 3.0d in late 2009 with 30k on the clock for £21k. Great family car for 12 years with little trouble until timing chain went at 250k mls, but still sold it to a scrap dealer for £750. When looked after they are bullet proof. Current price of diesel would not be ideal however, so glad I got to enjoy it in cheaper times.
Small wheels/deep side walled tyres = a smooth ride on our appalling potholed roads , good for smooth camera shots. Seems you got a good barge and no need to “massively overspend “ . Well done.
Fantastic cars, but I have never had any luck with them, always bought lemons and paid tons on them getting them back to being decent runners. Looks like this one was a bargain, well done Matt!!
Hear me out, the ideal camera car is a 7 seater Mercedes w123 estate with the rear facing third row. I’ve got one with a quarter of a million miles. A w123 or w124 would break down less than a Land Rover of BMW I can assure you!
Another tour of the backroads near where I live. Good old Sandhill Lane. Edge of the Peak District and Aldi-land in Romiley. Wonderful places i have known for 70 years.
Great car Matt, I've always loved the X5. I must say the content is excellent and the top of my UA-cam viewing. I'd consider having the car wrapped with your logo and UA-cam channel ,I have all my training cars professionally wrapped and the amount of business they bring in is astonishing, while you have the rear open with the camera guy filming many drivers are going to wonder what its all about. It’s a great way of growing you Channel and subs and a fantastic opportunity.
I'd love this as a dog walker / run around. Using an Audi A4 at the moment and tried a 1987 range rover but this was too cumbersome and heavy on fuel, so Audi until it dies.
Just booked the car in for new plugs, new battery, already had the oil changed. Next year I'm upgrading the gear shift lever, and refurbishing the alloys.
The 7 seater X5 does have air bags/suspension in the rear because I had to replace both mine The normal 5 seater didn’t have air suspension Just thought I’d mention that after you saying they don’t have any air suspension to worry about
I’m all for more videos and even better production values but for me don’t go chasing the Top Gear crowd. They’re good at what they do, but you’re good at what you do too and I like the difference, in fact I much prefer your takes on cars than what TG and Clarkson and crew produce. Long live High Peak Autos! 👍🏻
Hi Matt, about the Xtrons head unit, press and hold "Menu" for 3 seconds to switch to the Android Auto/Apple Carplay interface and the same to go back to the original BMW interface. The Android/Apple interface is lightyears away than the old BMW one. The screen has a much higher resolution and you should be able to operate it with the OEM Idrive and steering wheel buttons and the microphone. You'll have to set your phone to the bluetooth and wifi network of the Xtrons to reach the Carplay interface. Then, if your phone is wireless carplay ready, just enable bluetooth before unlocking the car and the Carplay interface should take over. If not, you may need to plug your phone to an aftermarket USB adapter hidden somewhere in the dashboard or glovebox. The Xtrons is a second computer that runs parallel to the BMW head unit one but they share the same screen. I retrofitted the same kind of device on my F46 but I saved the OEM screen to keep it as OEM as possible. It's a shame that the previous owner didn't learn you how to operate it. If you don't get any sound, you may have to switch the audio source to AUX in the BMW interface before going back to the Carplay interface. Cheers. PS : if you don't have a menu button and only the first generation Idrive knob, then check out the Xtrons operating manual on the manufacturer's website or contact their customer service.
The E70 is a very solid car. I must say after cleaning it looks mint. The M57 engine if serviced regularly is bullet proof, probably the most reliable diesel engine out there.
Matt, great video and good direction for HPA. As others have said, don't try the Top Gear copy, focus on the car not the stunts/jokes/tomfoolery/buffoonery in a place that you drove to. Just get the HPA checklist out... Headlight buff, check. Number plates, check. Tameside Valeting, check. Garage onceover, check. But what's this??? I need to know how many cupholders! Are there enough for the HPA crew on a road trip? We don't know. At least not massively overspent.
I have a e70 lci. 40d msport and i love it. One of the last e70's. Its a individual finished off in rubin schwarch mettalic. Its like purple on black. Love it
Perception is wonderful thing. What to you is simply a workhorse, to someone else could be a dream car. Good video, just goes to show what you can get for a couple of grand.
Nice motor. Goes to show that what you have said, frequently, in the past is true. Maintaining a car properly is really worthwhile. As for £90 mats - a rip-off maybe, but that was a high-end BMW when it was new. Can't believe you paid just two grand for it...
Had an E70 for 3 years. New tires every 12,000 miles at £1,600 a set. 27mpg. Rattles, leaking rear door dumped a pint of water on your feet when you opened it. Plastics delaminated on the dash, speaker burned out. Got stuck in 2” of snow - not a proper 4x4.
Good buy there Matt. Even better - sensible tyres! A friend bought one two years old at a good price, but it had the flashy low-profile numbers. It absolutely chewed through tyres, and cost him so much in replacing them, he traded it for a Disco 4. I'd ban low profiles from 4x4s, and cannot see the appeal of the things!
I might not have chosen that as a camera car, but there's no denying you got a good deal there - nice to see it looking tidy too and couldn't agree more regarding the rear plate size and genuine rubber mats. Nice move.
Back when BMW made good cars unlike my 2017 G31 5 series which went on fire on the motorway last week after a faulty egr cooler recall was done by BMW in June. Apparently they were just fitting the same design part again as a revised one isn’t ready until next year some time. Car is a complete write off.
I just sold one of these for £7k with 94k miles the 7 seater version. Great car but also the most expensive car to run that I have owned - lots to go wrong with them when heavily used as a family car. Great channel
Matt really puts a lot of effort into the quality of the videos and it really pays off for the viewer (and hope for Matt as well). The intro shots very super cool! Really nice colors and bokeh
I’ve got a cheap part ex 320 MSport 2010 Matt . Extensive service history 160k miles’ just a few marks as you would expect’also needs two tyres . Message me if it interests you ‘ just to add it’s mot’d until February or march and comes with a valuable plate ‘ well it’s private I mean. It’s a bargain for anyone looking’ and I’d love to see an upload of it getting it to A1 condition 👍
Well done Matt a very good work horse of a car I really rate it. it will do a good job for you . The best £2000 you have spent for years . Well done again and you deserve it . Kevin
The E70 is still my favoriteX5 and I’m still looking for one, but all the extras in it. Yes i still have my Range Rover but every time I come along one I can’t help but stare, so let me know when you’re getting rid of it 😂
I’ve got a 2010 40d with 130k and I can quite honestly say it’s the best all rounder I’ve ever had and I’ve had many cars, I just can’t bring myself to sell it. Yes it always needs something fixing on it but nothing major, I always look after my cars, regular oil change and gearbox serviced, it’s silky smooth. If you are bothered about the SOS fault, it will be because of the xtrons head unit that’s been fitted, think it’s something to do with the microphone / hands free connection. Enjoy and try throwing her round some corners , quite surprising how capable and fun they are on a spirited drive!
I’m buying one of these tomorrow £3999 not bad for an old girl I’m buffing my headlights then tinting the rear windows for my kids There are some bargains about if my last two years I’ll be happy I’m now in a position that I can change my car every year so not to stressed if it doesn’t work out but I’ll deffo be giving it some love and a good gear box service and any little bits to keep it going strong 💪🏼 Great video Matt
That aftermarket screen is a XTRONS unit. They are really fantastic especially for older BMWs. They are worth quite a lot too.The previous owner seemed to have loved his/her car.
It’s only once you start getting into these videos that you can appreciate the time, effort, planning and energy put into just shooting videos and that’s without editing. Then you’ve got your day job and family life on top of that so thanks for all your time.
Cracking solid reliable cars Matt, I drove my xDrive M Sport all the way to Ukraine & through Europe in 2019/2020. Diesel engine can sound a bit "tractor like" on initial fire up but really they are bullet proof. Btw mine had 120,000 on the clock. Keep up the good work. Lol, when I subscribed to your channel (back in the day ) you had around 79,000 followers ( look at it now !!) so well done. By far the best auto channel on youtube !!
You are my favorite UA-camr this year, I’ve been very eager to know what the car industry is like on the other side of the world since I’m planning to move out of America soon and into a country with the pound as their currency to own a dealership, thank you for sharing your experiences and good luck!
Big ups to the previous owner, I love honest people! 👏🏾
Nothing beats a new High Peak video after a rough Monday. Cheers Matt for another cracking video!
Thank you. Very kind
Just goes to show that if you look after a car properly, they actually last!!
Nice video Matt.😁
Very true! Cheers

Thanks! I try
Really nice video Matt. Nice to see there are still some nice genuine folks still around. I value my own integrity highly. The car looks fantastic, and you sound pleased as punch. Regards, Derek, Halkirk, North Highlands.
Seriously , your entrepreneurial skills are inspiring. You are clearly doing what you love. Keep it up Matt.

That’s interesting. Not sure I’d want to do any miles in a 2CV though
@@HighPeakAutos they did get to lunch at Le Manoir au Quat'Saisons, which goes some way to compensating.
You just can't help yourself!!! £90 on mats. I half expected you to service the gearbox, because it's in your DNA. Good result.
Don't usually like BMW much however this is a clean and tidy example.
Excellent buy Matt. Proper wheels to deal with the potholes....not smothered in ridiculous tech. Better than a newer one in my view.👍
Result! I remember considering one of these nearly new - £54k from memory - so at £2k you have saved an awful lot of depreciation and seemingly got a good one into the bargain, too 👍
Had 3 of them avoid the 3 litre diesel 4.4 v8 is the one to get you don’t get blown turbos with the bigger engines
M57 is a great engine… looks a decent motor for the money, it will serve you well
Love the X5, had one for the last 5 years up until this summer when, in large part due to you and this channel, I traded it in for a Range Rover! You got a bargain for £2k

The SE is always the best spec in my opinion. The M Sport tyres are just ridiculous!
That car is so nice, I've always wanted one of them but never found the right one. Matt wins again!
Correct to buy BMW mats. I bought heavily advertised alternatives which have badly finished colour contrast trim and don't lie flat.
It warms my heart when you say how proud you are of yr £2k car ...love that 👍
Thanks ☺️
SOS call system failure will be the backup battery around £40 and there's recalls outstanding on it.
I bought a 56 plate X5 3.0d in late 2009 with 30k on the clock for £21k. Matt, I’ve just noticed that you’re at 341k subscribers. What an achievement. When you first started you were a 114i and now you’re a X5 3.0d.
What a difference with just the cherished plates and headlight buff, she looks mint
Small wheels/deep side walled tyres = a smooth ride on our appalling potholed roads , good for smooth camera shots. Seems you got a good barge and no need to “massively overspend “ . Well done.

Beautiful car I have a 2008 bmw x6 34D......has over 100k mileage beautiful car

The E70 is a very solid car. I must say after cleaning it looks mint. The M57 engine if serviced regularly is bullet proof, probably the most reliable diesel engine out there.
The oversized rear plate is super classy, old money cars have them, your car looks superb.
My father had an '07 X5 30d, i remember doing trips to Durban and watching movies on that rear screen, core memories fr
Hi Mat the reg number FE57 looks like FEST which is German for firm/tight/stuck 👍👍
I have a e70 lci. 40d msport and i love it. One of the last e70's. Its a individual finished off in rubin schwarch mettalic. Its like purple on black. Love it

As for £90 mats - a rip-off maybe, but that was a high-end BMW when it was new. Can't believe you paid just two grand for it...
Nice to see an honest car, and previous owner. What a buy! Great video Matt. As always
Hazard warning light was flashing. Nice car
Good to see a 16 year old car with no rot, many of the similar aged cars you've shown seem to have rusty wheel arches and/or sills. Nice car.
3.0d N57 engine in these is popular for cracked crankshafts
Well done Matt I was thinking this could go horrible wrong but it's work out good
Someone's chuffed with their purchase....😊 👍
E53 myself. Amazing cars these, reliable for big old BMW's especially for the money they fetch.
A Dji osmo on a good mount on the boot is a good cheap way to get rolling shots. works well
I might not have chosen that as a camera car, but there's no denying you got a good deal there - nice to see it looking tidy too and couldn't agree more regarding the rear plate size and genuine rubber mats. Nice move.
Make sure transfer case fluid is changed.
Also at some point 5th injector will fail, and hope it isn’t rusted in there bad.
Lovely. We finally get to meet the reliable mystery star of the last couple intros from the previous videos🤩
Haha yes that’s right
Nice when you get it right and come across some decent people who told you the truth about the car .
27.7 uk mpg is approx 10 liters for 100 km - on a motorway I presume. quite a thirsty old beast for a diesel.
Looks a really smart x5, a £2000 bargain when you consider it was approx £42,000 to buy new.
Matt really puts a lot of effort into the quality of the videos and it really pays off for the viewer (and hope for Matt as well).
The intro shots very super cool! Really nice colors and bokeh
I appreciate that!
8:29 one thing i love about bmw's are the fantastic sounding chimes they sound so relaxing and modern
I drank that Athletic Green stuff before and it gave me the runs for a week
Well done Matt a very good work horse of a car I really rate it.
it will do a good job for you . The best £2000 you have spent for years .
Well done again and you deserve it .
Kevin
The frequency of your content has increased but the quality hasn't suffered 👏👏 another enjoyable video, such easy watching
The Auto Alex and Car Throttle boys will be gutted they missed out on your new BMW, 😂 send them a video of it all working.....
The E70 is still my favoriteX5 and I’m still looking for one, but all the extras in it. Yes i still have my Range Rover but every time I come along one I can’t help but stare, so let me know when you’re getting rid of it 😂
Your valeting company does such a great job. The car looks half it's age after the clean-up. It's come out really nicely. I like it.
Well done. Proof that high miles doesn't always mean clapped out. Preventive maintenance is the key to longevity.
As always, a very good video. Matt is so down to earth and I really love his sense of humour. Keep up the good work Matt
Thanks!
Great video. Some you win, some you lose.. looks like that one's a winner for 2k. 👍
Give me an SE over an Msport suspension on any Beemer every time. Decent ride and still handles like Maradona.
Good on ya Matt. Wonder if they saw Discovery video? Bout time u kicked a goal for yourself. Huge fan. Thanks
They did see that video, that’s why they got in touch. Cheers
I’m buying one of these tomorrow £3999 not bad for an old girl
I’m buffing my headlights then tinting the rear windows for my kids
There are some bargains about if my last two years I’ll be happy I’m now in a position that I can change my car every year so not to stressed if it doesn’t work out but I’ll deffo be giving it some love and a good gear box service and any little bits to keep it going strong 💪🏼
Great video Matt
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a better headlight transformation
AG1 has made it to the UK then. I’ve seen it in American videos for ages.
Loving the development of your channel Matt. Keep doing what you’re doing. I’ve learnt a lot!
Thanks! Will do!
I am digging this color grading. Really looks spectacular
Looks great. Far better than the current model.
Great buy, goes to show maintenance results in a good buy
That aftermarket screen is a XTRONS unit. They are really fantastic especially for older BMWs. They are worth quite a lot too.The previous owner seemed to have loved his/her car.
Good choice . I have the Style 44 Wheels on my E46 CSI Look smart and easy to clean- Enjoy
It’s only once you start getting into these videos that you can appreciate the time, effort, planning and energy put into just shooting videos and that’s without editing.
Then you’ve got your day job and family life on top of that so thanks for all your time.
Freelander would be a ideal camera car since the back window goes down
Cracking solid reliable cars Matt, I drove my xDrive M Sport all the way to Ukraine & through Europe in 2019/2020.
