A superb, informative interview. Rick Parry comes across as decent and honest and you can see and hear he loves football. He was brilliant as CEO at Liverpool. Simon Jordan interviews are proving to be top draw. He asks brilliant, searching questions and doesn't hold back with asking honest questions!
That's how you have a grown-up discussion of differing opinions, unlike examples of a certain generation with the "I SHOUTED LOUDEST" mentality. Great show Simon, and another great episode.
Definitely. In many other countries, huge percentages of football fans support the biggest 2-3 clubs. That includes Spain were it’s estimated that around 60% of fans support either Real or Barca. In England and Germany, so many clubs that have no chance of even reaching the top flight in the short to medium future, let alone achieving anything beyond that, have large, passionate and loyal fanbases.
The EFL may not have the best footballers, but as an entertainment product, is way more exciting than the premier league. 72 clubs = Greatest show on earth!! Great vision. Great interview.
I don't agree...The premier league has some of the most exciting drama with some of the world's best players with elite technical ability and skill the championship club go to the prem and can't keep up
Simon Jordan is so likeable and is on point with his guests. Relevant, interesting and insightful. Listen to him on Talksport everyday and in my humble opinion deserves a bigger role in sport
League 2 average attendance last season was 5,712, it was ranked 25th out of all the leagues in Europe in terms of average attendance for the 2022/23 season.
I think they are using the figures of total attendance which is a little deceptive to the actual popularity of League 2 because they (also League 1 and the Championship) play more games than any other league in Europe, which skews the stats somewhat. But even going by total attenance they aren't in the top 10.
Brill insight into how things work but my big thing is if the Premier want to be so elite from the FA why should they be allowed the complete in things like the EFL Cup 🤔
Totaly agree with simon ,let the overpaid footballers just play football and stop sticking every colour armband and silly laces in there boots, just play f***ing football please

I think one of the problems with the EFL is that it is 3 very different leagues. The Championship could probably stand on its own feet if it went to a 20 team 'Premier League 2' league and the EFL was League 1 and 2.
@@tangerinesoulman Yep. If you went to 20 teams in Championship and the same in League 1, there would probably be enough then to have North and South League 2 with some of the National League teams added as well.

The formation of the PL wasn’t a problem, it was sky getting the contract to get customers to buy matches. Murdoch was ruthless enough to win the contract and took the game away from the working-class fan.
The real problem is the different organisations all have self interest. In England we have 3 organisations the PL, EFL and FA. Parry is in the EFL gang so isn’t interested in football as a whole, he’s only bothered about the EFL. Also regards money distribution, if the EFL receive more money it will simply drive up salaries and transfer rates in the EFL, so the extra income will have zero real effect regards helping clubs survive.
Haven’t listened yet, but depending on the context of that title, that’s absolute hyperbole verging on a lie. League 2 avg attendance is nowhere near top 10 euro league avg attendance. Not even in the same universe. I could name 20 euro leagues with higher avg attendances, and if we’re talking total attendance, League 2 clubs play 46 games each, plus potential playoffs (far higher than most euro leagues)
The ‘facts’ press conference is always a stick to beat Rafa with and that Stoke draw is justified. Unfortunately Man Utd were probably the best team they ever had with Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez. Liverpool had Robbie Keane for the first half of the season who did well but then Benitez sold him back to Tottenham. Had he stayed, who knows we might have won it. 4 points was the difference. Liverpool were brilliant that season but for that Man Utd team. Also Rafa Benitez was right. Man Utd got everything. The media, FA authorities were all scared of Ferguson.

And without knowing the ins and outs of how much money the Premier League has at it's disposal SO THEY BLOODY SHOULD OF!!! I remember Simon Jordan saying something to the effect of the SPL clubs have £40 million worth of TV money to share between themselves every year but in comparison Brighton were given £115 million alone at the start of last season in TV money from being in the Premier League that season so it's not as though the top division in England is hard up for money is it?
