On this week's episode, Simon is joined by a Dutch footballing icon from the ‘total football’ era. One of only 38 men to have lifted the Ballon d'Or, Ruud Gullit joins the show to discuss his illustrious career, from rejecting Ajax as a young boy all the way through to his infamous spell as manager of Newcastle United.
One of the greatest players to ever grace a football pitch, Ruud won multiple European cups during his time at AC Milan whilst also captaining the Netherlands to European Championship glory in 1988. Ruud joins the show to discuss his playing days, his passion for diversity and inclusion within football, whilst also giving his unfiltered thoughts on his Dutch counterparts currently plying their trade in the Premier League today.

Ruud speaking facts on middle eastern money so much so it was uncomfortable for Simon Jordan says everything. Stacking debt on our football clubs letting them rot isn't better than growing them and investing in both the club and local community. I don't care where you come from there is a right way and a wrong way. Brilliant chat 👍

Gullit was amazingly versatile in a very rare way. Could cut it from a good sweeper, bossing the midfield all the way to a devastating forward up top. I’d only say Di Stefano was more masterful in his completeness.

Last comment. Jordan trying to say city one of the best ever…..glad guillet put him in his place. Going back to the great Liverpool who won 3 European cups on the bounce. 4 in 5-6 years. Very humble to not mention his Milan team , for me that Milan team with all fully fit all in their prime….is possibly the greatest ever.

Total football was the lineage from Michels taken from Jim Buckingham at Ajax and back to the Jimmy Hogan and right back to the way the Scots played the game in its early history.
Cruyff rebirthed it at Barca with his dream team and eventually led to Peps style of football today.
The name ‘Total Football’ was based on a cultural zeitgeist in Holland at the time in the 70s that used the word ‘Total’ across multiple areas like architecture. Some journo used it for the Dutch football and it stuck
