Thanks for a great in-depth review. I read somewhere that the armrest is also height adjustable, is that correct as I can't see anything on it's design to have that facility? I've had a test drive on the FR 2.0 tsi and found the armrest to be a little low for me. I'd much appreciate your advice. Thanks.
When I first saw AJ do a review I wasn't so sure that I'd like him. But I have to say that his confidence has grown hugely in a short period of time! I like how he has his own personal intro line "Are you interested? Come on.......Let's Go!". It's like a signature and adds personality. Well done AJ and keep up the great work! Assuming Thomas is your mentor, you are learning from one of the best :-)
14:01 this interior lighting system is the more importat thing in this car. you said it has no practical use... you're DEAD WRONG! Let me explain.... You're dating a new girl, you go to a decent restaurant and drink a little wine... The evening is about to end, you go back to the parking, but before moving you show her this lighting system with the changing colours... This is the signal. It says: "ok girl, this is the right moment to blow me". Believe me: it works. 100% guaranteed.
The design of the Seat Leon looks still very sharp and dynamic!! Great technical updates !! Really looking forward to the new CUPRA ST with 300hp and 4wd !!!! :) But I really appreciate the FR version. Another great episode of Autogefühl :))
I have had a Leon for nearly three years. At no stage have I ever found the fuel gauge remotely confusing. The gauge on this face lift Leon is more or less identical to my 2015 Leon. I don't know how different the steering is, I certainly have no complaints on mine though.
Thanks AJ. I've got my new Leon arriving in a few weeks and this review has been really helpful to show my family (who weren't around for the test drive) what they can expect. First class job.
I really enjoyed your review and am considering buying a Leon FR now! The title is very off-putting as I was sceptical whether the review would be in English!
The steering wheel problem is very interesting. I just bought the 2020 fr st version and the steering is excelent. I had exactly the opposite effect, that the steering is very crisp and does not feel artificial at all. Maybe Seat listened to your review :D
OMFG, this car looks so gorgeous! I'd rather buy a Seat than a VW, almost the same, but different. I like the Seat's cockpit and dashboard a lot more, for example. Seats are NOT boring cars for me.
got the 1.4 TSI manual and i love it. looks great outside and inside, feels great on the road, it handles smooth even at high speeds and it's nice and quiet as well. it's a blast to drive and i can only recommend it.
Currently actually owning a ST version 2016 I have to say as a previous audi A3 owner I love my Seat. A lot of thought has gone into the newer models but not too sure about the new grill
Had this the 1.8 tsi in the fr spec for 3 years and loved it. The car never gave me an ounce of trouble. I'll wait until week 16 in 2017 for the Seats version of the virtual cockpit to become available.
My 2016 Leon has led door lights! It wasn't carried over from the ateca at all, it's been on the Leon since 2013!! And it's available in 6speed manual and 7speed dsg (not 5speed manual like u said)
Damn my leon cupra 290 was build that week in the factory and i want now the cupra 300 facelift because i love the new front bumper :/ i wonder if the facelift leon cupra 300 that will be announced February 2017 will have a bumper that can fit my 290 that will arrive next Month
Nice detailed review AJ. Though I'm concerned you found the fuel gauge confusing, is it really??!! - the last thing we want is SEAT to stop doing cool gauges because some popular UA-cam reporter says it was confusing!!
Thanks to autogefuhl i bought a new car. In my list were cars such as Astra, Focus, Octavia and Leon. Astra was first out....i missed paddles for shifting and also some other minor problems to me. Really hard decision for me came then. Octavia vs Leon with 1.8 TSI and DSG....both had the same price for me, although price list of Škoda is put in higher levels. Škoda has more room, more practical small hideouts in interior and electric opening for trunk. Thats it.....no charisma, no sexepeal and if u want good level of equipment u have to pay extra. So i picked Seat Leon ST 1.8 DSG in beautifull Desire Red and this black wheels. It is expensive but the best visual configuration for this car. Again thanks to autogefuehl i could chose that sporty beautifull red color....you showed it sooner, then it can be seen in Czech republic. Only con i found in Leon (and i really hoped AJ is not right there) is no responce in wheel....Really shame in sporty tuned estate. 1.8 is flawless, silent and very lively over 4000 RPM, DSG great as ever, but i dont know what is happening under my wheels even in sport mode (i have adaptive chassis). Keep going Thomas and your team.
Great review !! Even if it lacks the "sportiness" that is expected with such a sporty and powerful car. Wanted to see it behave on twisty roads, not in an industrial zone.
@@autogefuehl boheme purple. Looks great. But given I already own an opel gtc in emerald green (also love), I know I'm going to hate it also. Because the deep dark metallic colours you just can't keep clean. But oh boy do they look good when polished and waxed.
AJ, you said the steering wheel feels too light but it's meant to be light at slow speeds to make it easier to manoeuvre around towns and cities and then it weights up and becomes more direct at higher speed. I saw on the review that you used local roads therefore i'm sure you didn't get to experience the steering qualities at high speed.
Not all info seems correct... for ex. The Full Link existed already on the prev Leon but was just added after 2012 release. Interior lighting already existed in prev ... only red & white were available though (and only for FR trim i believe?)... But indeed, the GPS system still feels very cluncky for a 2017 car :-/. Good review overal!! :)
Hi there!! Such a nice review, great job! I have a question regarding to the interior loudness when driving in the highway. Would you say that the noise is much better isolated than in the new Seat Ibiza 1.5 TSI?
On poor quality roads with 18" and Comfort mode in DCC comfort in on satisfactory level? What with noise level - you think that is better from model before lifting?
I have driven cupra ST 4wd. Price is good, i just doesn´t understand why dashboard needs to be soft if door panels and places what you are touching daily are hard plastic? Interior is fail, price is right. (Sorry for my bad language)
Looks great and drives better but the estate version in FR trim looks even better in my opinion. And those seats display real (basic) leather on seating surface btw.
I can agree with that, i ordered an st, but a cupra!, and im fed up with the wait!, they're behind on building for once!!, its been set back twice, if i get another call from the dealer, informing of another month to wait......his ears will burst into flames!!, can't wait to get it. Great review matey. All the best.
hi ! about the 1.6 tdi... what is the mechanical difference of "new" 1.6tdi 115cv and the "old" 1.6tdi 110cv? or the difference is only a software update of the ECU map? Thank you !
Great review !. Can anyone advise or provide feedback on how the 1.4 TSI 125 hp is ? I'm looking to order with this engine but not found one to test drive. Does it feel sufficiently powerful ? How does it compare to the 1.4 TSI 150 bhp ?? Thanks.
thanks! Depends on your driving profile. Of course you cant expect much power on high speed motorway runs, but for calm driving and city driving its perfectly fine
this review is somehow funny , forgot to clean the cluster , about the steering wheel he said the coolest " and stuff like that " , and for the other things also we enjoyed the " things like that " 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Interesting question. I recently test drove a Mazda 3 2017 (the 120hp version because unfortunately no 165hp was available for test as most of French drivers are afraid of everthing above 150hp...), very nice car to drive I must say. But I think I will try to test this Leon as an alternative (Probably can forget about testing the 180hp, but I have hope for a 140hp at least), the Leon FR is less fancy/original but has overall better performances. Prices are comparable (about 27k€), I wonder how much discount we can have on these cars.

Why doesn't my Leon 2018 fr+ have heated seats?
Love your reviews AJ! So joyful and relaxing to watch 👍🏼
love to hear that!
18:00 It's a six speed manual, actually.
I prefer the side mirrors that come out of the door rather than the window. Gives the car a sportier appearance, IMO.
What colour would you choose AJ, do you like the new red colour?
We want Full HD, Full Screen, Full length and Thomas lets go
Good review.drive the 2014 184bhp fr and I love it.plenty of power and economy.is very good.

Hi I'm wondering if the Leon comes with the ambient lighting as standard as I can't find any info
Is it normal for the check engine light to be on while the ignition is turned on. Looks like a pending engine code to me.
check our Skoda Kodiaq driving part video for the explanation :)
All respect to this guy but he already reviewed the leon, it should have been thomas
AJ did this because he was already familiar with the car indeed !
AJ, what do you prefer, this one, or Mazda 3 2017 ?
Mazda 3 vs leon? I say leon. (AJ)
Autogefühl why, something in particular?thank you, amazing review.

Mazda 3 has one huge advantage - a reliable and durable petrol engine, with TSI you never know, it is a lottery after 60 000 miles.
I love My seat leon 1,2 tsi.
Very good review! Personally i realy dont like the "facelift", previous was better imo
Thanks!!
I am appalled by the consumption. 9.5 l/100km isn't bad in this tiny 3-door car?! Thomas would have switched the engine off and towed the car home, just to save the environment.
IRL consumption is more like 0,65L/10Km
good idea.
So for pure driving would you recommend this Seat Leon FR or the (2018) VW Polo GTI ?
Compare it here: ua-cam.com/video/qk7wny6QXN0/v-deo.html
you can changes the steering response in the mode menu.
kind of worried of what i heard in the film about the steering wheel. AJ- didnt you use different modes?
Otherwise very good review, but there is also a 6-speed manual option.
Not enough emphasis on how well you can push the car in corners. Does it handle well at speed? Not much about the sound it makes. Not much about the acceleration.
So is this a Seat or Volkswagen? Like the SKoda...
picking up my leon tommorow ;)

do you get the Color Display in the instrumentcluster with the 8" navigationssystem only? What do you get with the 6,5" Media System? Color or monochrome?
monochrome afaik.
and in the facelift with the 8" Media System plus? it's quite weird. sometimes the configurator says 8" Media System plus in the Style and 6,5" Media System plus in the xcellence, wich doesnt make much sense to me...
even my local dealer couldnt answer me if the xcellence has 6,5"or 8" media system.
did you check the price list ? The pdf is often more exact
Autogefühl I just asked Seat Germany. They told me with the facelift there are only 2 Display sizes. the 5" optional System for the Reference and serial System for the Style, aswell as the 8" Media System plus. They couldnt give me exact Information on the Display in the instrumentcluster but they believe it to be monochrome in Reference only. with xcellence you get the DOT-Matrix with and without Navigation.
hi how do you turn on the led flashing light ihave leon fr 2017 and it doesn have it?
how is the dsg ?
i heard some cars are not so good like audi or bmw because the transmission is not so good.
the DSG is great to drive, we had that in many many reviews
i just saw this video thx for the answer!
thank you so much! wasn't aware of the new GPS downsides definitely a bummer.
no word about night driving, are the new headlight really better? are they matrix-like...
what gps downsides ? just bought one of these comes in April.
Did you watch the video? it's at 11:22 - basically you can't zoom in/out easily because it isn't a capacitive touchscreen (but a resistive cheaper panel)
Oh yeah I saw that i thought you meant their were issues with it that I wasn't aware of. I can live with that.
Of course, I'd definitely trade my Golf 7 with the non-AndroidAuto GPS for a Leon Cupra AWD
and only TMC (TMC Pro). No Live Traffic
should have done a sporty driving part, other than that great review!
It's like a Golf, only not ugly.
Waiting for mine next week :) fr 1.4 150hp

No german accent from hell...my ears thank you aj
as a German, I could not agree more..
great job
How can you activate the wave effect of the running lights (at 1:51 min)?
+Philipp Schardt thats normal when u have the led headlamps
Is this a special? Mine only change from full white to orange (indicator) without the waving effects
ahh now I know what u meant. That effect is not real, it is because the camera is faster than the headlight. So it doesnt appear to you in real life
Do you have a picture of the default upholstery of FR version?
+elcurruncho should be in the official prospectus - its nice
Yes! In the .com website there is a picture of each upholstery, and it's a bit red, specially in the panels of the doors :(, I prefer the actual one www.seat.com/content/com/website/en/carworlds/new-leon-5d/design/vehicle-color-interior/cloth-techny-black-sport/_jcr_content.resizeViewPort.noScale.fileReferenceEng.jpg
looks nice!
well i have a 6 speed DSG 2.0 Tdi 184hp and my wife has 7 speed DSG 1.8 Tsi .
How about showing us the new rear LED turning lights?
they activated it at the exterior review?
Why is it soooo hard to find a SEAT dealer here in the states?
I even looked in the yellow pages, nothing? Whatzup?
they dont sell in the US yet...
