    Delicious with mayo for sure! It's been quite awhile since I've had/made a fresh one. Looks so good!

    Made these tonight at 45 minutes as you suggested. They turned out great. The mayo was an okay dip too, but I still love melted butter best to dip the leaves into. Thanks for sharing the video. I do have one tip though, using a serrated, long bread knife works great at removing the top and the stalk to the artichoke. You can hole them in place as you cut them and that knife just works better than a butcher knife. Again, thanks for the video.

    Yum! This video made me a subscriber! I have been scouring artichoke videos all afternoon to figure out HOW LONG to cook them in the instant pot 😂 and I kept looking for the exact reason that they were all so inconsistent and I said to myself "there's just no WAY they cook in 10 minutes!" So thank you I think I am going to settle on 25 because I like mine a little sturdier but you were a joy to watch! Thanks! ☺️✌️💝

    Some folk turn the artichokes upside down so that the steam goes up into the plant as they cook in the IP. They also don't use a trivet at all, but put the artichokes directly onto the pot bottom and have no issues at all. Me, I like to add in a stick of butter to the water in the pot, the garlic as you did & the lemons. I have not used a bay leaf before though. I also found previously that if you cut the stalk off and then use a potato peeler to strip the skin off of it, you can then cut them up like French fries and put them into the pot while you cook the main artichokes. They are great tasting and actually have more nutrients than the artichoke itself has. Any rate, thanks for the video. I plan on trying the time out as you did to see if I have good results the next time I cook them in my IP Duo.

      Wow! A stick of butter. Will have to maybe give it a try. I do know about the setting the artichoke upside down and it really is a better way to do it than what I did.

    Hi Jill, Great video. I've never made artichokes but I love artichoke hearts. My friend says her grandmother used to make them with butter, breadcrumbs and garlic and parmesan cheese. That just sounds wonderful. Keep up the good work.

      The bread crumb way is delicious! My mom used to make them like that every so often. I think she baked them?

      I think my friend's grandmother baked them too. She said they always had it for Christmas. And she said they were a lot of work. LOL!!

    Jill.., Thanks for showing me how to cut the stem, the top, and also trim the artichoke leaves. Did NOT know the first thing about cooking an artichoke till watching your very educational video! By the way.., did you hear about the man who died of a heart attack while shopping for an artichoke? His widow's friend said, "How terrible! What did you do?" She said, "I opened up a can of peas instead." (Is that "canned" laughter I hear?) ha ha Jean PS: Nice apron!

    I am embarrassed to say I have never cooked an artichoke! lol! I just buy them in the cans. In fact I am about to make Mary Mcdougall's artichoke spread in the Starch Solution cookbook. I thought it sounded delish!! I can let you know what I think of the recipe. Love all your cooking videos Jill!!!! xoxoxoxoxo

      I love the artichoke hearts so I think the dip you are going to make sounds really, really good. I will be interested to find out how it tastes. My sister has an artichoke square thingy...it's an appetizer and it is delicious.

    Should do it on high or low pressure ? thx.

    • @DesertRidgeline
      @DesertRidgeline 5 років тому

      high pressure 25 to 30 minutes for large chokes. Should not take nearly 50 minutes as the video shows.

  • @DesertRidgeline
    @DesertRidgeline 5 років тому +3

    Maybe your chokes were just huge, because all that I've been watching suggest 18 minutes with a 3 minute rest and then quick release. Don't they steam in one hour on the stove for a large one and half hour for a small one?

    • @judidunham5037
      @judidunham5037 5 років тому

      And small ones as little as 8 minutes. I think it must depend on how ripe/old the chokes are. 18 mins seem to be standard.

      I know -- I've heard about lemon butter. But for some reason we were raised with the old mayo trick....it is really good!

      @DesertRidgeline 5 років тому

      It's equally liked where I live. There are growers reasonably nearby that will serve you cooked artichokes and your choice, mayo or butter. Never heard of doing a lemon butter but am trying it tonight.

    This is what I don't get, I have watched several instapot videos on artichokes and they all say 8 minutes. In my experience mine take 13-15 minutes to tender.

    • @Jill4Today
      @Jill4Today  4 роки тому

      Oh my gosh! 8 minutes? I'm wondering if instead of steaming the artichokes are being cooked in more water? I'm concerned as well. Now I'm going to have to buy an artichoke and experiment. Thanks for writing

    • @TrueCourse
      @TrueCourse 4 роки тому

      @Paul Hughes: I was going to say the same thing. I watched a presentation that said just that. Eight minutes.... lol! Maybe some people like em tough. 😆

      I love that she left the experimentation in the video. It shows she's human and , as she said, we should be glad she dealt with the time experiment rather than us having to go through it. I think it also helps debunk some of the videos that cut away after saying the only cooked theirs for 8 minutes only to come back with perfectly cooked artichokes...that you KNOW took a lot longer.

    10 minutes in the instant pot is enough ! I have to say , your lighting is not very good. Hard to see what you are doing !

    • @Jill4Today
      @Jill4Today  3 роки тому

      I don't know what instant pot you are using or how undercooked you like your artichokes but 10 minutes is not enough. Sorry you don't approve of my lighting. Do you have a UA-cam channel? If so I'd like to see it. Maybe you could give e me some pointers
