    The handling through the twisty sections will make you smile more than the power, although if you have never rode a bike like this before, your be more than impressed.

    Ok so now I have watched the actual video, what an awesome 848, I've always like sportsbikes in white and that looks brilliant, a set of aftermarket pipes and it would be perfect.

  • @ctwbluejay
    @ctwbluejay 15 років тому +1

    You're right, aftermarket pipes do help, but I still don't get the same reaction or emotive feelings about the tune of those Ducati engines. This is one of the reasons I got the Daytona, because the exhaust note is deeper and more unique than any of the Japanese bikes, but also is high pitched and smooth enough to not resemble a lawn mower. But hey, to each his own, but I like what I like.

  • @roadtrip1098
    @roadtrip1098 16 років тому +1

    Both are amazing machines, I will say to go with the 1098 because I'm a firm believer in that there is no replacement for displacement. Also the 848 doesn't have the dry clutch which makes it not sound like a Ducati. The 848 does seem to be a bit easier to ride though, as it is not as touchy with less power, smaller brakes, wet clutch, and being a touch lighter.

  • @thewooginator83
    @thewooginator83 15 років тому +2

    Hardly the case. 1098 owners have ridden my 848 and told me flat out that the power delivers a bit smoother and that the bike feels lighter and is easier to push in the twisties. It's a no-brainer that the 1098 is a faster, more powerful bike, but that doesn't necessarily equate to being able to ride it faster in the canyons.

    Yeah, since the previous posts, I have gotten my monster. I couldn't be happier. I put over 2,000 miles on it in the last few months and I think I am ready for an upgrade. S4RS is what I am looking for now. That or the new streetfighter. We'll see.
    Thanks for the comment though. I completely agree with respecting the bike. Happy riding.

    I've rode a 848 a 1098 and a 1198s and in my opinion the 1198s felt much lighter than the 848, The 848 is light but the one I rode felt more heavy, it could have been suspention set up too. But thinking about it I believe the wheels on the 848 are heavier as the 1198s and the 1098s models have the even lighter racing wheels. The dry weight on the 848 ight be less but top spec ohlins and top wheels make them feel lighter. The 848 is a fine motorbike but needs 7k rpm to really move. 1198's smooth

  • @EdwardLeeSunRiseCars
    @EdwardLeeSunRiseCars 5 років тому +1

    Just rode 848 and 1098 back to back.
    Both are great bikes - but the noticeable extra torque of the bigger bike makes all throttle inputs more effortless - on the road its easier to snake up through the gears at low revs using torque rather than revs...
    Also the 1098 seems to turn in better - I don't know why.... is it the steering damper missing on the 848?
    The noisey clutch that is so Ducati is also missing on the 848
    Bigger is always better in bikes.... 848 is good - 1098 is better...

    @sounddood Im pretty sure that the cbr600 has more than 98 hp, and that is wheel HP where i believe the 848 claims 134 engine hp, which is probably more like 120 wheel hp. Anyway i have a cbr1000rr with 150 rwhp

  • @benjyboba
    @benjyboba 15 років тому +1

    They are easy to ride bikes, they feels really light and the power is smooth and easy. Its reasonably fast for what it is but needs to really rev the engine. You shouldn't have no problems riding one as a learner. Just take your time until you get the feel of it.

  • @benjyboba
    @benjyboba 16 років тому

    I think this could be a nice bike to ride. Ive rode the 1098s and thats a bike that dont wait for nothing. The actual weight difference probably wouldnt notice. I dont think its weight difference in corners for turning will benifit over the 1098. I think its when you try and get out of a turn and get grip on the more brutal 1098. Most would probably find the 848 easier to get the power down. My old 900ss has a report on how hard it is to turn. The way i ride i dont notice it and it feels light.

    @sounddood You posted wheel horsepower for the Honda and crank horsepower for the Ducati. The 09 Ducati 848 makes 112 horsepower @ the wheel, not 134. Not even the 848 EVO makes that much @ the wheel. Your Honda numbers are correct.

      @@sverremoe4087 thanks for following up. Neither of us kept the bikes for too long. Mine was sold before his 848 ever showed up. The 1098 made use of the extra 250cc and it was pretty apparent. The 848 almost felt anemic compared to it. I have a Hayabusa now, but still feel like the 1098 had more face melting acceleration and superior handling. The gsx 1300r though is better for what I wanted - a sport bike that is comfortable enough to tour on.

    First off, shop around. I recently purchased a flawless 2008 1098 for 10k (excluding TTL). That's outstanding. But between the CBR1000RR and 848? they can't be compared. The CBR will win on the track because it has a 40hp advantage, but the 848 comes from Ducati, and has more style, class and soul than any japanese superbike. Up to you, but that's my input.

  • @governator45
    @governator45 15 років тому

    He's most likely referring to the newer Japanese production street 600's. Obviously a race or speed bike will go much faster. The land speed record for 50cc's is over 150mph.

    In a previous MCN video the 848 had 130bhp, now it has 123bhp... so which is it? Not that it really matters to most of us, but some consistency would be nice seeing as our first impressions of any big comes from the media!!!

  • @ctwbluejay
    @ctwbluejay 15 років тому

    Ok, so I think this 848 is one of the best looking bikes out there, but I cannot bring myself to enjoy the way it sounds! It is no more impressive sounding than my Toro lawn mower. Props to Ducati for continuing to make beautiful motorcycles, but I will stick with my Triumph Daytona 675's wonderful performance and even better sounding exhaust note.

  • @DrillRaptor
    @DrillRaptor 14 років тому

    No worries, buddy. Just take your time and RESPECT the machine. That's what it's all about. After a time, you'll earn that respect back from the bike, and you and that Monster will be a force to be reckoned with. I learned to ride on a CBR1000RR and was told by 4x World Superbike Champion Doug Polen that if you earn a bike's respect, you have nothing to worry about.

    the only reason some bikes (litre bikes and over have 190 rear tire) is for top speed stability. ie the bike will have better stability in speeds of 170 to 200 mph, also, it's a commonly known fact that a bike can turn in quicker on a 180 than a 190.
    Cheers

    Think Neevesey is going a bit far by saying early in the video clip, that the 1098 saved the company. These guys know how to make a bike, they are a winning manufacturer - wbk 09 / gp 09 most recent. The history of ducati provides further race winning results. Ducati will never go out of production, never.

    You could well have that sort of power on your cbr 600 with a turbo charger. I sugest that you try and take a test ride on a 1098 or even an 848 so you can see the difference for yourself. I've rode both and I like torquey engines but the 848 really does move if you keep the revs 7000 plus. The 1098 would probably take you by suprize with its tremendoes pull without revs, its awsomely fun.

    hey guys, check out my $40,000 bike which has traction control and is 200cc more than your bike...i'll bet you its faster. NO SHIT! get a life dude, if any one of the big 4 made a race edition of their bikes for $40,000 it would blow the ducati away - WITHOUT traction control

    WTF are you MCN riders doing getting you knee down at pedestrian speeds, please note: i live in the UK, so if you want sport i'm right here. Go on tell me to ride on the balls of my feet on a road that i've never seen or driven on, you know a road outside that 60 mile radius some people never get outside of. Also WTF has pulling a wheelie (that is in every mcn test) on motorbike got to do with fast road pace.
    cheers
    gogs

    You have no where near 70 ft/lbs and LMAO @ your claims, or your 200cc advantage question,. You obviously dont know the differences between inline 4's and twins and their respective power numbers and powerband differences.
