Come on Hobie, at this price point the yak should include the rear hatch. While I understand that you can't include "every" option, this one is a no-brainer.
There is no need to disconnect the rudder cable. Just make sure to lower the rudder and the cable will drop far enough out of the way. I used a dremel router bit with a circular cutter attachment guide. Then I made sure the cutting bit depth was set about a 1/32" below the plastic. Came out perfect! It already paid off for easy access when I installed my anchor trolley.
Better to follow the Hobie way. I'm glad it worked out for you, I was excited to skip messing with the rudder lines. I did it exactly as you commented and ended up knicking the rudder line. I didn't cut it, but it'll now fail long ahead of schedule I'm sure. This was on my 2021 OB
You guys go over in great detail. Thanks!
Aqui. No Brasil sonho ter um desses .. para continuar gravando pra meu canal de pesca .. muito bom o video.
Is the other type of the hatch that come with solid ring and 6 screws safe?
And can I install it on 2021 outback?
Because some people said the water leak inside the kayak with the other type
Handy hatch!
Are the front and middle hatches waterproof as well?
Anyone happen to know if this kit is still available? I ordered online but the hatch kit I received didn't come with the split support ring. It came with a solid one piece support ring. Also the hatch I ordered also came with 6 screw holes and not 8.
Dude, where can I get that dang EVA foam kit? I liked the Tron remake too and I want to represent.
Seriously though, the kit isn’t even on Hobie’s website for a 2019 Outback.... So I probably should be asking, ‘When will it be available?’ ..... and while we are on the subject, ‘How much will it cost?’

What size screws to use
Soo nerve racking when drilling into the kayak 😬
You don't have to do all of that with the rudder. You can hit it with a drill just be careful as hell
YOu do not have to take the rudder line down
Holy crap that hatch is almost $70 bucks?
I'd say they nickel/dime you do death, but none of their accessories (many of which should just come with a $3200 hull) are priced less than $50. hell they try to stick you for $70 for a anchor trolley, when you can get better for around $30 if you check around.
